Lost Mine of Phandelver: Episode 1
Tumblr media
We tried Shadowrun. Shadowrun tried us. We failed.
So on to easier RPG action: It’s the Dungeons & Dragons 5E starter set: “Lost Mine of Phandelver!”
Our intrepid party consisted of:
Kosef: The human noble played by Tyler
Arimita: The halflfing rogue played by Sam
Ikius: The elf wizard played by Jeremy
Karnass: The dwarf cleric played by Kerri
Helma: The human archer played by Leah Rae
Willaby: The dragonborne ranger played by Ryan
Shred: The half-orc barbarian played by Tahj
The party was hired to escort a wagon of goods to Phandalin, but goblins had a different idea. Swords clashed. Map cases emptied. Arrows flew. Many of them hit Willaby, whom Karnass correctly assumed would be just fine without healing spells.
Tumblr media
Having defeated the Goblins, the team took one captive. Balthazar the Whisperer proved a fine prize, as he led the party to a goblin cave where they bested wolves, the darkness, and even a surprise flood.
Our heroes met their first real challenge in the deepest reaches of the goblin cave. Klarg from Accounting plotted an ambush, but the evil bugbear was bested by Ikius’ mighty volley of magic missiles.
With Klarg out of the way, the party rescued the mercenary Sildar from the goblin cave and gathered up loot for the trip to Phandalin.

Level Up
As a result of their valiant efforts, the party gained 350 XP apiece and the following powers:
Kosef: Max HP boosted to 23 (+11), hit dice increased to 2d10, and gained Action Surge (one additional combat action on top of your regular action per rest)
Arimita: Max HP boosted to 15 (+6), hit dice increased to 2d8, and gained Cunning Action (take a bonus action on each turn in combat: dash, disengage, or hide)
Ikius: Max HP boosted to 15 (+7), hit dice increased to 2d6, prepared spells increased to 5, spell slots increased to three Level 1 slots, gained Evocation Savant (half the time and gold to copy a spell into your book) and Sculpt Spells (protect friendly creatures from your own area effect spells)
Karnass: Max HP boosted to 22 (+11), hit dice increased to 2d8, prepared spells increase to 5, spell slots increased to three Level 1 slots, gained Channel Divinity (once per rest, you can use a turn to activate either Turn Undead or Preserve Life. Turn Undead forces any undead within 30 feet of you that fails a Wisdom saving throw to spend 1 minute moving as far from you as it can. Preserve Life splits 10 HP of healing among any creatures you choose, up to half each’s Max HP.
Helma: Max HP boosted to 22 (+10), hit dice increased to 2d10, gained Action Surge (one additional combat action on top of your regular action per rest)
Willaby: Max HP boosted to 20 (+9), hit dice increased to 2d10, gained two spell slots for Spellcasting and can choose two Ranger spells, and gained Fighting Style (a boost to your ranged attack, armor defense, or dual-wielding melee attack)
Shred: Max HP boosted to 25 (+11), hit dice increased to 2d12, gained Reckless Attack (trade disadvantage on your defense for advantage on your attack for a turn) and Danger Sense (advantage on Dexterity saving throws you can see)

Last night at @DBAArcade's Alt.Ctrl Showcase at Secret Project Robot I explained to one of the co-creators of @killerqueenarcade what the deal is behind the design of a tournament tee that @logan_arcade produced (guess Josh is not a fan of @njpw1972, at least not yet) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsvaanJH9A7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=rxfvhvtsjimo

Killer Queen League Night recap: Week 9
More like Weak 9, amirite? The pre-Christmas League Night was a bit of a bust, with small turnout and tempers flaring.
Plastic Parts Mike met Kia Claus, with disastrous consequences. But the two smoothed things over, and Kia thanked Mike for helping fix the broken Blue Queen joystick.

Killer Queen League Night recap: Week 8
Who knew so many Killer Queen fans liked football?
The Grid aired Arizona Cardinals vs Minnesota Vikings, and the competitive juices got flowing. Names were called. Challenges were accepted. Drinks were spilled.
Pauls were groped.
Short two players, Pamily Fortrait converted to The 3/5 Compromise and stunned Mercury Squad with 10 thrilling victories.
Hot on their tails were Snail Me Harder, racking up seven wins and showing that girl power is in full force on League Night. Daaaaaaang gurl!
In honor of the Cardinals’ head coach, Bee Arians made a surprise costumed appearance and went home with a win.
Speaking of football, newcomers Team Di Vine looked like an NFL offensive line. Seriously, you couldn’t see the cabinet behind that wall of hunky beef. Dudes learned fast and scored a masterful victory.
Beezerker, despite not all having beards, raided The Grid like a band of Vikings, scoring six wins. Huge improvement in play by Regi and Short Bus. You guys look great.
And the infamous Bitch Betta Hive My Honey snatched five wins. Sorry I yelled at you, Jeff.
Finally, what’s that low, rumbling growl coming from the men’s room? Who’s pushing the boundaries of what’s heterosexual and what’s a legion of super heroes? What’s it like to dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?
BATMEN came to fuck things up. And mostly fucked up. But Holy Christian Bale did they sound good.

Killer Queen League Night recap: Week 7
So, we didn’t have enough players to form meaningful teams. But we had some evenly matched impromptu teams slugging it out.
Marshall nailed the board to the wall, which was rad. Trish took it down, which was less rad but totally understandable. Maybe don’t but the nail through the middle of the board next time, Marshall.
On second thought, nail through the middle is pretty metal.
In other news, Summer Pants. It’s a thing.

Killer Queen League Night recap: Week 6
Out with the old, in with the new!
Upheaval was the name of the game as fresh faces crowded The Grid.
From the West came Bonus Round, LLC, a team of gamers creating their own barcade and table-top space in downtown Phoenix. They managed two wins in their Killer Queen debut.
From the East came Chemical Toilet, who pumped out three wins in their first go-round. So fresh; so clean.
From the South came Beeber Fever, who proved you could combine a winning Andy a with a charismatic Kia and produce ... fewer wins than an Andy alone. Five, to be exact.
The North brought us Leftovers, LLC, a team created from anyone who wanted to beat Bonus Round. Leftovers managed seven wins in its rude hello.
And from the ashes of Hive Five rose Pamily Fortrait, who racked up a stunning 12 victories. Is that a League Night record? Let’s call it a League Night record.
Jon arrived with an adorable homemade set of Killer Queen-inspired T-shirts and helped lead Wasps!! to four victories.

Killer Queen League Night recap: Week 4
Dusk finally fell on Killer Queen Mercury Squad Phoenix as League Night tried out Killer Queen’s new map in earnest. Some loved it; some hated it. Everyone agreed it was a game-changer.
But perhaps more significant was the emergency of some parity in the League, as newer players found their footing and veterans dared to experiment. That meant a bit more balance and a lot more fun.
Hive Five found itself neck-and-neck with Beerd, a squad that started out with two beards and amazingly recruited more. Each team pulled of five victories in a crowded field on nine teams.
Not far beehind them was Beehind You, with four victories. I remember when these little bees first hatched on the scene. Now look at them, winning and shit.
Bitch Better Hive My Honey and Bees Nutz each had three wins. They also each had both Pauls, proving that if you want middle-of-the-pack performance, find yourself a Paul.
Tiffany and Matt added some serious firepower to Too Big To Snail, joining Ryan, Megan, Kia, Sam and Rebecca in a carousel roster that managed two respectable wins.
Also with two wins, Lez Bee Honest returned with Gabriel back in the mix. Despite some non-League Night practice (the hallmark of a winning team), the promising team sank to just two wins. Not saying it was Gabe’s fault, but it probably was Gabe’s fault.
Markovinkov Snail Gods won the award for Hardest Team Name To Coherently Yell In A Bar, plus one victory on the night. Would they win more if League Night started earlier? Stay tuned.
Finally, Snailin’ Your Queen couldn’t find a win but did manage to include 11 different players during the course of the evening. That might be the most important stat of all as we grow the League.

Killer Queen League Night recap: Week 3
It was the best of hives; it was the worst of hives.
As Hive Five (in costume as HI-V) maintained its crown with nine victories on the night, Berries + Queen disintegrated, with one player leaving The Grid entirely. Sam emerged as a surprise substitute, leading B+Q to its only win of the night. Not even Spider-Mlan could save them.
In happier news, BOObeez proved effective at Killer Queen and double entendre, racking up five wins. Bobby took his taunts to new heights, while Cassie and Derek layed the smack down.
Lezzz Bee Honest (formerly Bee Taco) showed what a few weekends of practice can do, scoring four wins without the help of Gabriel. Mexico! Mexico! Mexico!
Just when you thought we needed to stop with the bee puns, RAMROD showed us just how it feels to have a team name completely divorced from Killer Queen. They managed two wins with a nice variety of players. Also, apparently, they had a team member named SOOTT.
Also with two wins, Beehind You was back on the scene. That’s what League Night is about, kids: Getting better each week and making friends.
Pete’s team once again arrived, scored two wins, and left early. Get used to it folks, Snail Gods is a team with shit to do in the morning. Remember, if your team splits up, just see Kia and get assigned to another team. Or, better yet, form a new team! You can be on more than one.
It was a last week of League Night play before The Grid graciously updated its cabinets with the latest Killer Queen patch. The world has changed, and we must change with it.
