KH3 Day 7

I only have three plot-related achievements to go, so I think I’m pretty close to the end....!

I do Not like flying around in this giant space cube. Free me.

the Keyblade Graveyard I’m very worried. The Sephiroths appear and start talking about trying to start another dark war, but for the purpose of the great creation that comes after the war or something like that. So OK, pretty standard ‘im gonna do the evil thing for the benefit of all’ bad guy BS.

There are a million enemies onscreen how is the CPU handling this.

So they find ‘Terra’ but he’s been possessed by the villains, and his hair literally turns white. I’m real sick of white hair being the villain marker. Look your hair color should say nothing about the character of your heart this is not a mechanic I’m here for.

Why are they still protecting Kairi when her whole shtick this game was that she wanted to be strong enough to fight for herself and protect Sora? I’m also pretty sick of the ‘cute tiny eternally-underaged-looking girl who must be protected while she stands there defenseless’ trope. Let her fight. She and Axel trained together idk what her background before this was but she should at least be about as ready to fight as he is?? Let me see Kairi’s keyblade. Let her kill the big bad.

So... we lose. There’s practically a gameover scene. And then we’re back up to the chess board, except they’re different chess players? They look like maybe the same players, but younger now, and there’s a ‘checkmate’ by mini-Sephiroth, but young Hanzo pulls his king back and says the game isn’t over.

The Final World.

OK so all of this is.... very meta and existential and dramatic. Can we talk about how the spikes in Sora’s hair make it look like he has cat ears on close ups?

I don’t... really understand what happened with Kairi there. Was she the star in the final world, and by talking to her there Sora already saved her? (Was it possible to get through the final world without talking to that star? I wanted to talk to ALL of the stars it was so weird and sad and interesting) Was she never really gone in the first place because Sora seeing them all get taken and assuming all was lost was really jumping the gun on his part?

Why are we... repeating this scene? Did we time travel? I think we time traveled.

HOLY FRICK HOLY FRICK HOLY FRICK

OK we revived all the keyblades from the original keyblade weirders but these looks like usernames?? Like Earthbound ending level meta but where are these usernames drawn from??? Is this just meant to SEEM like you’re calling upon the community or do these actually come from the KH community, winning the day for us?? Either way that was SO COOL!

The X-man is trying to make the X-blade. My joke comes full circle.

So the whole picking everyone off one by one thing is very tedious yes, but ALSO very thematic and I love getting closure on all of these faceless nameless pions. Blue-haired-guy gets a happy ‘death’. Weird antennae girl gets a happy death. Sora reassures someone’s just going to get ‘recompleted’ whatever that means and it sounds VERY dystopian scifi.

ROXAS IS BACK THE BLACK CLOAK GOOD GUYS TRIO IS REUNITED!! Yay congrats y’all!!! The girl’s name is Xion apparently which is funny to me, both that it’s another X name, and because I finally realize where that weird Japanese manga name ‘Shion’ comes from.

Ugh don’t kidnap Kairi again this is getting so boring.

So Xion must be the girl Axel was seeing in Kairi when he was kidnapped and trapped with her on a deserted island by a crazy wizard. They do look a little similar? Not that there’s enough variety in face models for that to be important - two main characters are literally like identical twins or something.

Y’know this fight would be so much easier if Roxas and Xion didn’t look exactly like the bad guy I’m fighting.

Why do all the trios have one girl? I mean I know the answer is sexism but what’s the in-universe answer? Is one of the ‘guys’ really nonbinary and it’s now my job to figure out which one it is in every trio because that’s what I’m doing now.

Now we freed Terra!! I think that’s everyone we were trying to find? Except the girl who’s in Kairi, and now we’re also looking for Kairi again ugh. Look Kairi doesn’t need to be a butt-kicking hero of the day like Aqua is, but can you elevate her somewhat above ‘cute little girl who is always in trouble’?

Last big fight with the Sephiroths, and then we’re coming for you, Baldie.

Aaaaaand.... he killed Kairi? Or something? I guess we know that coming back from the dead is totally an option so.

And we are In! Kingdom! Hearts! I think!

OK wait actually X-man calls this ‘Scala ad Caelum’, the nexus where all the worlds are born. Literally the ladder to heaven. Probably the topmost level of the Inception dream - beyond this is literally only our actual reality.

I died like fifteen times in that fight.

So one of X-man’s moves was literally to pull the light out of Sora, turning him into the dark Sora form that I jump into whenever my health is low and I really don’t wanna die. I’m still not sure if I morally should be doing rage form or not.

TERRA HAS BEEN HANZO THIS WHOLE TIME??????

Holy friiiiiiiiiick ok so the chess game was a long time ago, like when the first Keyblade war was.... and Terra’s teacher along with X-man were there, or something, being the chess players, and grew up to be the Keyblade teachers - except X-man was all doomsday prophet and all that, and decided to do time travel shenanigans to try to reset the whole world. Which like, valid? But also Sora’s whole ‘thats not your call to make’ should be your FIRST thought when you decide the world sucks and you wanna reset it!!

Anyway, Hanzo/Equius/whatever his name is.... probably like died or something in a previous game, or maybe even before the series started, except death is fake and he lived on metaphysically to help the new kids stop his old chess-mate (lol) from resetting the world and hopefully now y’all can CHILL.

Is Kingdom Hearts like actually just the moon tho. Was this game Majora’s Mask the whole time.

“His heart and his mind are made up” yeah but like technically.... this whole game is made up....

No joke if I was even a hair more invested in this I would be crying, I would be sobbing about this ending sequence, everyone moving on and being happy and having friends and the cat-thing found not-Roxas and some girl gets put in the replica body I don’t know who she is - is she Namine?? - but Riku is really happy and I don’t know how y’all can stand this. They’re playing on the beach with old bad guys and and Kairi is there in the sunset and they’re holding hands and Sora is gone???? He pulls a Luke Skywalker and vanishes what is this???

There’s more after the credits - eyepatch from before shows up at the Keyblade graveyard, with the black box everyone was hunting for earlier and promptly forgot about. Four white-robed people with animal masks show up too.... I don’t get any of this, but it suggests there’s something bad still on the horizon (of course).

Then we’re back to the chess game and baby Hanzo says there’s a new game - baby X has seven pieces (four of them have animal tops like from the previous scene) and then Hanzo pulls out the king (representing Sora!) and says ‘Just watch’!! So??? New series???

OK and I didn’t get enough hidden mickeys to unlock the secret ending to brb while I do that.

OK SO THE SECRET ENDING IS JUST AN AD FOR THE NEXT GAME.

I would assume at least - I actually looked up the phrase and apparently it’s nonsense that’s at the end of all the games so that’s nothing - but we see Sora, alive, and he and Riku are in the Verum Rex world, so I’m guessing.... that means something? There’s more I guess is what it means.

OK it’s midnight, I’m spending three more bucks just to sleep and turn this game in tomorrow, I’m posting this tonight and I’ll make a proper post-game tomorrow.

KH3 Day 1.2

Apparently one of the villain’s names is literally just ‘Organization 13′ which is....... I mean I don’t even have a funny joke for that, how is that a name??

How did you not know who Hercules’ dad was, what did you not even watch the movies Sora?

They’re actually using the different Disneyland rides as forms of attacks, that’s pretty cool??

“I’ve been working on that plan for eighteen years!!” lol

Beat Olympus, learned that strength is... being strong? Or something like that I already forgot! I think the heart was mentioned. Got a new Keyblade!! Gotta get ‘em all!

Eyepatch (I’m not calling him the name Sora used) started to say something in a cutscene but then the cutscene shifted? Was that intentional?

We’re in the Dark World now!! It’s Mickey!!! And Sephiroth!! I’m gonna call all the white-hairs Sephiroth. His name is actually Riku. Huh, so this is Riku.... He’s looking for some girl named Aqua who’s stuck down here (is she the blue-haired girl?), and he practically dies, and there’s an alternate Riku or something?

I really don’t like Merlin’s weird eyes. It makes me not trust him.

Wait is Mickey Mouse like the king or something?

They’re throwing out names and I’m trying to remember everything that’s said so I’ll understand everyone’s relationships to each other - something Riku said made me think he and Sora are like rivals, but then he’s super chill with Sora volunteering to rescue Aqua, so idk.

Shoot, I can’t keep calling this guy Merlin, there’s an actual Merlin in this game too.

So there’s confirmation that Sora’s memories got disappeared, though that might’ve been a thing that happened during one of the games. Also some old antagonists are now friends, and Sora and Roxas share a heart, and some chipmunks gave him his first cellphone.

NOW it’s Kingdom Hearts 3??? For real this time??? Are we gonna jump back to a 1.5.3 flashback anytime soon???? So many titlecards is this normal?

Now we’re fighting things called ‘nobodies’ and I hate them with ever fiber of my being they are the most horrific creepiest things I could have imagined this cute cartoony game coming up with.

So I’m a little confused why Sora’s all ‘we gotta find Roxas’ right now. Like, he figured out he’s, like, in Sora’s heart or something, which sure OK, but you were gonna save Aqua? You were trying to figure out how to get your power back? It feels like they zagged into this adventure without telling anyone.

I’m laughing because these two Sephiroths showed up and I was gonna joke about how I can’t tell them apart, but then Goofy pointed out that these two guys DID used to be the same person. That explains that.

Oh now now we’re doing cooking minigames. I’m getting the distinct feeling that this is gonna be one of those games where the journey is the fun part and rushing through isn’t gonna be the best way to play, oh noooooo.

There’s a cutscene where a girl with reddish hair is writing a letter to Sora about how Merlin (the real one this time) put her and this guy named Lea (pronounced ‘Lee’ tho) in this time-locked place to train to be Keyblade masters. Lea turns out to be Red-Hair guy, except he’s wearing the Sephiroth costume so I legit can’t tell if I’m supposed to trust him. Anyway, he’s totally in love with her, and she’s the generic anime can’t tell for some reason, and then he sees another girl where she is, and then he tells her to call him Axel, which is a name I’ve actually heard? Anyway I suspect the Merlin time-lock thing is related to the island Sora and I think Riku and maybe Aqua(??) were on in the recap music video.

KH3 Day 5

I didn’t get time to play much today so there’s not much to say. Pirate World was fun, and they only literally re-animated like four whole scenes, so that was nice. On the other hand, the way the world was designed, it was like they expected me to spend a LOT of time exploring and messing around - but I’m on a time crunch y’all??

If I wasn’t on a time crunch I would have spent so much time with pirate!Sora.

Finally beat Pirate World which means fun cutscenes. Kairi says something about... some other girl who’s name I’ve never heard, who only started to exist when Kairi herself was pulled out of Sora’s heart?? Listen I’m very confused about how birthing happens in this world. Does everyone just come from Sora, ultimately? Are... people themselves ‘worlds’ anyone else can go visit or leave from?? Where do people come from? Does this whole anime FF/Disney crossover thing exist in like a pocket dimension where everything is real the moment someone thinks of it being real??

Also Axel/Lea REALLY needs to change his clothes dude you’re literally wearing the ‘im a bad guy’ jacket.

The guy who was with the girl who I think is Aqua - who’s also wearing the ‘im a bad guy’ jacket, but only USED to be a bad guy and is maybe now just an OK guy? Anyway, he’s in Twilight Town for some reason with an actual bad guy (one of the X men), to hunt down some missing girl......... and the framing of the scene suggests it’s the girl Kairi was talking about. So we know where she is. The not-a-bad-guy-anymore says he feels really guilty about what he did to Roxas and girl-whose-name-I-can’t-remember, and is trying to atone. Then some random other ‘im a bad guy’ jacket shows up and says HE’S trying to atone too, but we maybe don’t trust him?

Look, y’all. I’m officially on the ‘not sure if the bad guys are actually bad guys’ train. Like they’re definitely not great, but it’s wholly possible, from my understanding, that they’re not actually evil mustache twirling power-hungry villains. It remains to be seen.

I finally get to go to San Fransokyo tomorrow, and I may for real just sit in that world for a while taking as many selfies of Sora as I can. I saw a preview of Sora’s techie outfit and I don’t have nearly enough Hidden Mickeys to unlock the (secret? additional?) special ending.

KH3 Day 4

We made it to day four!

Starting today in Frozenworld trying to find Elsa. I’m already tired of this world can we go finish San Fransokyo already.

They literally just...... reanimated the whole let it go song. It’s literally just the song again except I’m having to hear it again playing this video game. I’ve already watched this. Everyone has seen this movie why are you making anyone watch literally just the movie all over again???

Look, Kingdom Hearts is like 50% cutscenes and that’s cool with me as long as the cutscenes are relevant but I’ve officially skipped my first cutscene, which was literally just a reanimation of the snowman song from Frozen, because, as I’ve said before, I’ve already seen this movie. You don’t need to literally play the movie over again for us??? I’m going to skip literally all these Frozen cutscenes that don’t look like they’re gonna add anything relevant.

So, like, are Sora and Riku actually siblings or is it more of a ‘like brothers’ kinda relationship? You should text your brother more often Sora.

Finished Frozenworld thank HEAVENS, now we get a buncha plot-relevant cutscenes again, my favorite. Sora promises to go save Aqua again and not-Merlin insists he’s gotta figure out how to wake people up first. This was almost exactly the same cutscene from the beginning of this game, with just a little more detail.

Spent a little time grinding in space because my ship is super underleveled, and I can’t figure out where to get the materials to upgrade it. Still don’t have them. C’est la vie.

Pirate World!! Don’t care for you-know-who but pirate!Sora officially beats monster!Sora for position of ‘favorite Sora’. 

Everything about Pirate World is giving me Assassin’s Creed flashbacks, and not even necessarily pirate Assassin’s Creed. There’s guards all around the royal fort and they freak me out because any moment I’m sure they’re gonna start trying to kill me for running around and smashing barrels.

I think I’m officially more invested in the Sora Takes Selfies With Hidden Mickeys sidequest than I am in any of the actual world quests. I mean yeah go ahead and stop the black coats but screw Jack, he can deal with his own problems - go find those Mickeys!

KH3 Day 1.1

Live notes during my first play session, spoilers from here on out last warning!

There are a lot more human (?) beings on the cover art than I expected. I counted about ten? Are there then human (?) characters in this game?

Sephiroth and the Japanese guy from Overwatch are playing chess while the intro attempts to recap everything about this series. I get kind of a sense of the ‘war’ thing that’s gong on but there’s not a whole lot of context. White chairs are important, there’s an evil bald guy, and someone who is sometimes Sora’s friend and sometimes not?

There’s a ‘memory archive’ thing on the main menu before I even get into the game, which I’m going to assume is a video recap of the rest of this series, and therefore not touch it. Who needs to watch a recap when the first part of this game literally IS a recap??

There’s a bunch of cities on weird triangle islands on the water? The chess game plays again. I think the cities are ‘Kingdom Hearts’ which was not something I thought was going to even be a thing. Also it looks like all the characters are the literal chess pieces? Like the guys playing this chess game are metaphysically enacting this big war or something?

This would be super intense if I was invested in this series, I’m so happy for everyone who’s been waiting forever for this game to happen.

Why does everyone’s hair turn white when they go evil? That doesn’t seem fair? Does that make all old people evil?

It showed me a bunch of scenes and asked me to choose things, and I went with Balance and The Guardian. It’s starting to look like Sora doesn’t know who he is? Or he’s been out of the ‘game’ for a while and he’s having to recharge and return to reality or something? It’s like the player doesn’t even NEED to know anything about the story.

So we fought a ‘heartless’ which is obviously some evil bad thing, and then there’s a scene with Sora having failed some exam and lost all his powers, and Merlin the Wizard tells him to go talk to some legendary hero somethingorother - which just reenforces my ‘we dont NEED the background Sora is starting over anyways’ idea

Kingdom Hearts 2.9????? We’ve already HAD four Kingdom Hearts 3 titlecards and now it’s 2.9??? Y’ALL THIS IS A SCAM THEY STILL HAVEN’T MADE KINGDOM HEARTS 3

Cloud Strife worked for Hades. This game really is part of the Final Fantasy universe.

Wait there’s a moogle here?? This game is legit actually for reals part of the Final Fantasy universe that wasn’t a joke??

I’ve been playing this game for an hour, when is it going to let me actually play.

Last comment before I take a break, I did get a good ten minutes or more of for real actual gameplay finally, even though it’s just running around Hercules-land  and killing monsters endlessly, so lets hope this at least keeps up?

KH3 Day 1 pregame

I went and got the game at Redbox at 5 this morning because I couldn’t sleep, so I’ve got it for about 4/5 days for ten bucks, lets see how far I get.

Full disclosure, in checking for game availability I saw the words “Keyblade wars” which sounds like a completely new this to me and not something I expected to hear about. Let’s hope I can get through the rest of this without spoilers?

Also I came down with a cold yesterday.

I think what I’m going to do is pregames and postgames every day on here, with a recap of what I did and felt about it, and on the spot livetweeting on my twitter account, @ pagesofkenna. If something groundbreaking happens I might also liveblog it here. Every post after this will be tagged ‘KHspoilers’, ‘kh3 spoilers’, ‘kingdom hearts spoilers’, and any other spoiler tag anyone asks me to use.

KH3 Day 6

Almost a week in!! That’s eighteen bucks to Redbox baby!

I’m doing some grinding before jumping into San Fransokyo - apparently the treasure sphere I started with was literally the hardest of the first 6 you see? Literally all of them were easier. So I finally have the materials I need to upgrade my spaceship and lookie here, I can navigate space safely again waddaknow

Also finished letting the Hidden Mickeys in Twilight Town. I love how ‘make Sora take some selfies’ is literally not even technically a part of this sidequest, and yet any mickey he can’t selfie with (because of the angle or whatever) is a huuuuge disappointment.

Sora getting to San Fransokyo and immediately going to text his brother about how cool it is is so good, so pure.

Hiro meets these strange kids and immediately reveals his true identity like that’s not how you superhero kid???

So far my favorite things about San Fransokyo: this takes place after the movie, so there’s no chance of this world making me rewatch a poorer-done version of a movie I love; everyone’s leveling up and getting new powers.

I really wanna just... run around San Fransokyo without monsters showing up. This city feels so big and there’s so much to look at. I’m taking pictures of random everythings. I’ve only found two lucky emblems so far there’s probably soooo many hidden everywhere.

And the mysterious disguised black coat is.... Riku? Or really just some other person using one of Riku’s bodies or... something. Identity is weird in this game. 

It’s the main bad guy....’s heart piece, the one that used to be in Riku, in a spare body (like the one Sora wants to find for Roxas). Also they talk about time travel a lot in this conversation, so it’s like.... he split his heart up and sent the pieces into different times? To gather the right vessels. Sounds like this guy really just wants to live forever.

NEGA-BAYMAX.

Nega-Riku literally just pulled the spare Baymax out of the alt dimension, confirming the crack dark world theory (I’m going to say) and reconceptualizing Hiro’s trauma all over again, damn.

THERES TWO BAYMAXES IN CANON THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER also lol at Hiro literally noping out of X-man’s ‘this evil data chip is literally all that exists of this robots heart if you kill him you kill the robot mwahaha’ gosh I love Big Hero 6.

RIP me, I always forget to look around for the chest with the map in it, and this city is so confusing, I was literally running around for twenty minutes just trying to find the map before I eventually thought to look up a video.

I found all the hidden mickeys in San Fransokyo before even trying to leave. It was weird, the cutscene didn’t immediately pop me out of the world like it usually does. Not that I’m complaining.

Riku and Mickey are stuck in the dark world - big surprise. Maybe you shouldn’t have let them run off and do their very important quest while you dicked around trying to figure out what hearts are??

Sora summons another gate to... another island somewhere? And finds some mysterious keyblade... which opens ANOTHER gate. Cool cool cool.

‘You can’t make a whole pint without us’ I know this is an ongoing joke but y’ALL this is a KIDS GAME, NO DRINKING ALLOWED IN THE AMERICAN LOCALIZATION

OK I’m very curious as to why Sora has to wander around with this heavily-accented duck and talking bipedal dog, and Riku gets to chill with the King of Disneyland.

Aqua is back, I adore her to pieces, she’s all angry and grimdark now from being left here for over a decade (part of me is like, Riku was here just a few hours ago? But now I’m wondering if she ended up here back in like KH2 and this is another meta joke), we’re just gonna hug it out tho.

OH WAIT NO WE GET TO PLAY RIKU AGAIN. Did this dude just visualize accepting his own faults and weaknesses and move on and grow like a mofo? I bet he got ALL the angsty character stuff in the prequel games you white-haired anime boy. BRB gotta go save my gf now.

Special move: activate Sora cutscene. They get a DOUBLE keyblade now!! All night-and-day themed that’s gotta be one hassle to try to use!!

For a hot minute there I thought they were really gonna leave her behind again WE FINALLY SAVED AQUA YAY!!!! Before she realizes she’s back she thinks she sees Terra and someone named Ven - one of whom is the kid who looks like Roxas (who in turn looks like Sora). And the islands are called the Destiny Islands, and I’m suspecting all the Keyblade Kids got stranded on various islands for timeperiods unstuck from the timestream?

AND NOW WE GET TO PLAY AS AQUA KICKING SOME BORING DUDES BUTT this is the greatest day of my life. Sora’s literally like ‘but youre still recovering Aqua let me fight!1!’ and she’s literally just ‘no I’m not your girl Friday I’mma stomp this fool’ I a d o r e her.

Aqua loses because of a script which is stupid, but then Sora figures out how to wake up not-Roxas, who I guess has never met Sora before, based on the way he reacts? And he has a flash to nega-Sora, which I assume is something about when X-man was trying to use Sora as an evil heart piece vessel. Anyway blah blah, everything worked out good!! Everyone who isn’t literally stuck in someone’s body is safe!!!

I adore the way Aqua talks, she speaks a little slowly and solemnly but with such calm emotion GOSH I love her so much, why did it take you all so long to find her.

Axel is all ‘ahem cool cool but why am I also in this room with everyone and also why does Ven look just like Roxas? Everyone already knows everyone and this is a lot to memorize!!’ This just in Axel is back on my good list

Jimminy: ‘it’s ok I gave you cheat sheets on your cellphones!’ Look dude I’m not reading your ‘the story so far’ summary. I’m following everything well enough (*cue audience laughter*)

OK so Nega-Riku is actually like legit hanging out with Riku, not a memory or anything, and he’s not a bad dude? Unless there’s two nega-Rikus but I dont think this series would go THAT far (*cue audience laughter*). Anyway and then Sora and Kairi have a cute moment and everyone’s kinda just chillin’ before.... whatever they’re supposed to be doing next, and I’m officially 31 hours into this game and I’m gonna call it a night.

KH3 Day 1.3: Final Session Unchained

For today at least.

I think this game would benefit a lot from not trying to explain the nuance of the situation? Like yeah, I’ll miss a lot not understanding the nuance, but your dedicated fans have been neck deep in the lore for a decade already. I don’t need to know that so-and-so used to be a bad guy but then was really being body-controlled and actually is a time travel clone or whatever. Just tell me who’s who and how you want me to feel about them.

I went to Toy Story world and they played a Final Fantasy ad. They literally just played a Final Fantasy ad in this middle of my Kingdom Hearts game.

Well, I did it folks. I killed Sora. It’s been a great run y’all but this is the end of the line, X-man wins. Sorry Mickey Mouse.

I also got my first big glitch, fighting a creepy doll at the toy store. Buzz Lightyear accidentally shot me off the map. It didn’t break the game though so all’s good.

I was able to put in almost 9 hours today (though idk if it counted the whole hour I sat on pause), which feels decent. Fingers crossed I can finish this by next Monday? I’ve definitely got a better handle on the situation that I did yesterday, though I’m still confused about basically all character stuff that gets brought up. But I know who... a few? of the main characters are, and sort of the basic situation of the series, I think. The mechanics are fun but 9 hours in and I’m still getting tutorial popups, can we have some consistent gameplay please? I’m also not 100% sure what Sora’s goal is right now, other than generally stop the bad guys from doing bad things. 

All in all, one day of play and I’m already seriously considering actually going back and playing the series, so that’s a good sign!

KH3 Day 3

So I’m starting off today in a new gummiship galaxy, with access to MonstersIncLand and.... well, I actually forget which the other place is, bc I’m going to MonstersIncLand. It has a lower suggested level, which I was still ten levels under when I blasted off (leveled up almost all the way with some of the tedious arcade games in space).

Sora’s monster look is the BEST I’m so happy, the right blend of a little cute and fuzzy without being outright ‘cute fuzzy friendly monster’.

Oh hey also, can we talk about Nega-Sora?? Whenever he gets low on health I have a special option to make him go all Dark Link, and then he does like a crapton more damage splashing darkness all over the place, and I kinda feel like I shouldn’t be doing that?? Like the more I use that power the more Sora will, like, turn over to the dark side or something?? I’m concerned about Donald and Goofy just being chill with Sora doing that every fight because I’m that bad at fighting.

Also confession time I can not believe any actual person would be able to understand Donald without subtitles. If I’m not staring at the screen during each cutscene I can’t understand him.

I very much enjoy that MonstersIncLand isn’t a literal playback of the movie, like TangledWorld was.

Some faceless Sephiroth guy showed up and started spouting about Sora having anOTHER guy in his heart?? Sora, how many people are you trapping in in your bloodsack??? Also, how is that physically a thing?

Ex-evil science guy is now saying there’s a third person inside of Sora. I think this is officially the last one. I don’t think you can physically fit any more people inside of a teenage anime kid.

Blue haired girl in the dark world!! This must be Aqua! Sora was finally just talking about how he’s supposed to go save Aqua so like, good job for remembering, I guess he’s supposed to grow and put his personal quest first? She’s just sitting on a beach waiting bro like come on.

Heads up: I’m in love with her. I think she’s getting evil possessed now but it doesn’t matter I adore her.

We finally get to meet Actual Merlin!!

I didn’t actually realize that Disney owned Winnie the Pooh? Also I didn’t think I was coming here until much later, this achievement is way down the list. Huh.

Wait so did Sora used to live......... inside Pooh’s heart? Or in Pooh’s book? Or something? Or is that all metaphorical? I’m getting confused on what’s metaphorical or literal when it comes to hearts now, maybe Pooh just meant that he and Sora used to be best buds or something. Where DOES Sora come from though? Where do any of these anime kids come from? Did they all originate in the Final Fantasy universe and somehow melt into the space between story worlds or something?

Started Frozenworld before I had to pause for Critical Role, this looks like it’ll only be half a recap of the entire Frozen movie, so. Shrug.

KH3 Day 2

No moment-by-moment liveblogging here, just a recap of today’s session. I think I got through about four hours today? Finished Toy Story Land AND got through all of TangledWorld, so, progress!

So Toy Story was cute, Sora et al being toys and all that, I was sure the whole time that Buzz was like... secretly working for the bad guys or something. but nope, but being weird. I got to play a video game within a video game? Frankly a lot of this gameplay feels like arcade minigames so like, that’s not that new. Though if by the end of this Sora realizes he’s just a video game character, I wouldn’t be that surprised.

TangledWorld was.......... literally just a quick replay of that movie. Is that how these normally go? I couldn’t tell if they’d literally gotten Mr Levi to come in and record those lines again, or if they were just reusing actual lines from the movie. It was fun but it was also a touch heavyhanded, it felt.

OK, I need to do a breakdown of what I understand of the story so far. I’m still pretty confused, because people keep throwing names around, and also some people change their names depending on if a bad guy is possessing them or not?

Basically, Mr Evil Guy started collecting powerful people (presumably keyblade wielders but maybe not necessarily?) so he could rip his heart into 13 pieces and, like, store it in these people. I guess. Not sure why. Some of those people are the character’s friends, and Sora himself was dragged into that at once but he managed to pull himself out and... I think defeat Mr Evil Guy? But Mr Evil Guy is still kicking, and gathering new minions.

All of Mr Evil Guys people get the same face, similar hair, and that weird double-zipper black coat. Some of the ex-evil guys still wear that coat for some reason?

Magic place (either the literal Kingdom Hearts or just Merlin and Not-Merlin’s School for Upcoming Keyblade Wielders) is fighting against Mr Evil Guy by training children to fight with giant keys. Sora traveling around to these different worlds (which are actually in SPACE for some reason??) is more of a homework/field trip situation. Sora’s also got some other kid inside his heart somehow? And it’s someone they knew so like... some STUFF must have gone down to make that happen. We’re trying to figure out how to get him out, but it feels like it’s just for the exp.

Oh, and the villains are deffo gonna try to possess Roxas as soon as Sora gets him out. They’re all subtly giving Sora hints on how to accomplish this goal - they’re also low-key pretending to be actually good guys, but I’m pretty sure this is just a ruse.

What any of this has to do with the chess game in the intro music video? I dunno. I still think the whole Kingdom Hearts thing is like a world-within-a-world - like Inception - and the chess players are just playing a game but it’s making the characters within the game act... maybe? Or they’re just randos at a different point in time.

Anyway I think that’s all I got. I’m definitely speeding through this game faster than I’d prefer - there are soooooo many photos I should be taking - but looking at the achievement list, I might be able to finish by about Monday?
