The news of the brawl that had broken out on New Years Eve traveled fast, not only within the inner circle of his family, but to the greater public at large. Alphonse wasn’t sure what shocked him most about the incident: that he hadn’t been a part of it or that little Adelina was the cause. While he was most certainly interested in hearing her perspective of the whole affair, there was one person he wanted to talk to first.

It had been a guard of the Nassau-Weilburgs that had started it after all. It was only right to apologize.

Alphonse was able to find him easily enough, isolated as he was in the lounging space of the hotel. He approached the older man, holding his hands up passively. “I hope this goes without saying, Your Highness, but I don’t plan to take a swing at you. I figured it might be worth mentioning that ahead of time.” The prince offered a light smile, taking a seat beside Henryk. “I was hoping that we might have a chance to talk, if you don’t mind?”

Who do you this is prettiest inside? Who's prettiest outside?

“Oh dear, what a minefield. Outside? I can’t pretend not to find any of the Portuguese incredibly attractive. They’re a family endowed with excellent genetics. That seems a bit crass, I apologize. I mean that they, as a whole, are very beautiful people. All of the de Bragança women are stunning, and their men are handsome. I presume if there are any of them who fall outside male and female, they are equally gorgeous. The Nassau-Weilburgs do give them a run for their money, though.

“As for the prettiest inside? That’s much harder. I will say at present I’ve been left in awe most often by the inner thoughts of @elysefz, who is always a delight to talk to among other things. Most of my erstwhile fiancees were accomplished and intelligent, else we would not have been engaged in the first place. And I’m coming to find at our dear Austrian king @kingxhenryk has some hidden depths under that pretty face and surprising right hook.”

“That party was a mess,” Levente stated as he handed the glass of scotch to the other. “I think we can both agree on that.” He hadn’t quite realized how many people had personal disagreements. He would have expected a fist fight from just about anyone except an Austrian. ( @kingxhenryk )

Vincent actually managed to get through about half of the novel that Henryk had spoken so highly of before shooting Henryk a text to demand a mandatory historical fiction book club meeting. All two members would be attending, and one was expecting snacks to be provided--it was up to the other man to figure out that Vincent would be the one arriving with an empty stomach paired with an all too excited expression. He was certainly going to take the one romantic scene out of context and turn it against his friend. 

However, when he arrived at Henryk’s and the door opened, the rush of desire to challenge the King dissolved. Taking its place were his big brother and loyal friend instincts which immediately balked at the sight of his book club leader’s face. 

“For the record,” He said carefully, leaning closer to evaluate the damage, “this is the sort of thing that I was talking about when I said I was only a phone call away,” He looked at his friend with an expression that was a mix between apologetic and confused, “If you really don’t want to talk about it, I’ll shut my mouth, but then I’ll just have to get my information from the tabloids--is that really a victory? Plus, the sooner we get over this the sooner we can talk about how your novel is just as smutty as mine.” @kingxhenryk

“Your majesty.” There was preciseness in her movements as she put on a polite smile and extended her hand. “I didn’t want to bother you during the holidays but now that Epiphany is behind us, I thought it would be a good time to come meet you.” It wasn’t like they were complete strangers to each other but she couldn’t remember if she had properly talked to him after he had ascended the throne. It had most certainly changed certain aspects of their relationship. At least for her. She could’t really say they were peers anymore. “I take it your holiday was at least somewhat relaxing?” ( &. @kingxhenryk )

Alphonse hardly had the opportunity to speak with Astrid yet, but he had to admit that her family knew how to throw a decent party. The julbord alone was a masterpiece, with decadent delights that even he hadn’t tried- and he prided himself in being somewhat of an expert in obscure foods. Given that he currently found himself lacking the type of female company he normally had at such events, and Astrid was nowhere in sight, his mission was clear.

It hadn’t taken the prince long to pile up a nearly abhorrent plate of meats and cheeses, with a tall glass of julöl, something described to him as a Christmas beer, to wash it all down. He was ready to settle in for a feast for the ages before a vaguely familiar face caught the corner of his eye. “And here I was thinking I would not be seeing a friendly face for a while. You’re not trying to play the wallflower again, are you your Highness?”
