I've decided that the secondary level of Kiroitori is mostly /pretending/ to be various characters expositing about their varying theories and ideas and that but it's really just All Might manifesting. Like. Shoulder-angel versions of his colleagues and friends. Some of them are real due to the "have fun figuring out what's real. Idiot" clause (that is repeated everywhere in my notebook) but most of the time (especially with Aizawa) he's basically sitting at a desk going "what would my colleagues believe to be rational??" and then having brain arguments with them over it.

Cutie Reviews: TokyoTreat Feb 20

Hello! Before I begin the review I wanted to explain that this box had a LOT of repeat. Like I've been doing lately I won't be reviewing the repeated items unless I have reason to. I do this not out of laziness, but because I don't think a review would be very interesting to constantly write/see "I had this before. It's good like last time/I hate it still." for each thing. So if I don’t write anything for certain items, you’ll understand why.

(It’s probably just me but every time I look at this picture I keep thinking that these girls are third-wheels to the other... am I the only one?)

This month’s flavors are Strawberry and Azuki.

Before we get to the review I had a couple of things to cover first.

In this box we received an ad for a new show known as Gochi Gang, along with a notice explaining that the strawberry pocky we were going to get this month was replaced with the strawberry koala’s march. This was done because during this period, there were several poor koala harmed from wildfires and left homeless.

Lucky Treat & Photo Contest

For this month, the lucky treat consists of cardcaptor themed goods. The photo contest featured Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, and Kiroitori.

Blendy Stick Hojicha Cafe au lait

As I’ve said before, I really don’t like tea all that much. In January’s box we got tea, which wasn’t terrible, and other tea I’ve tried hasn’t been the worst either. So I try to remain hopeful when I try out new things like this.

This hojicha blend is roasted, giving it a smooth caramel-ish scent when mixed with a creamy milk. As usual, I wait until I do the review to try a product, so I heated some up with milk since I usually don’t mind milk tea very much.

Okay, so I don’t know if it’s because I suddenly got a headache or what, but this was pleasantly delicious! I didn’t need to add sugar or anything. It’s not really sweet, but it has a faint caramel creaminess to it.

It’s very soothing, and oddly enough I feel like it actually calmed my headache a little. If I end up finishing this box I might order some more, I wouldn’t mind drinking it more often.

Strawberry Heart Marshmallows & Strawberry Soft-serve

Here’s an example of 2 items I had before. But I did want to mention that these are the types of items that do not hold up very well over time. But in different ways- for example, the marshmallows were still pretty fresh when I opened them, in comparison to the ultra-chewy soft serve marshmallow.

The marshmallows are still yummy now even though I did these pictures at the beginning of the month, they’re just a little hard but not crunchy or stale tasting. The soft serve left a nasty taste in my mouth though.

Honey and Apple Pure Gummies

Oh, where to begin with these... Okay, well first, they look very cute. The packaging is also really cute. Gummies are delicious, and I do like sour candy, but I’m not a huge fan of honey when there’s too much...

Okay, so originally I thought I’d love these. Then I hated it so much when I actually tried them, but now that I slowly ate one piece-by-piece and kept them in my mouth I found it tolerable. I only feel like I could eat one at a time, but I didn’t cringe or anything :D

Strawberry and Milk Cream Cake & Uncle Pierre’s Roll Cake

The cream cake was delicious but lightly flavored, which would probably be ideal if you don’t like overwhelming sweetness. The coating of the cake is sorta transparent, in comparison to the white clearly shown on the packaging. Would recommend.

The roll cake is fine, pretty basic. The cream is very yummy, but it’s not like pink like the package shows. The cake outside is pretty basic.

Caramel Corn, Strawberry Daifuku KitKats, and Strawberry and Chocolate Hearts

CC - ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥  surprisingly, this one actually has peanuts in it! It’s a first for me :D I don’t like peanuts, but they gave it a different flavor than usual.

SCH -  ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ I love these a lot, would recommend!

Veggie Hearts, Dragon Chips, and Aji Cheese Chips

ACC - ♥  the texture is pretty nice, but even if I eat these super-fresh upon arrival they always taste stale. I’ve had them a couple of times and it’s never any different.

VH - ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥  I love vegetable chips but they’re so light in flavor. THESE however, are very strong in flavor. I love them!

Meanwhile, our new item, the “Dragon Chips“ are a combination of tarako and buttery flavors. It’s a unique taste that I thought was pretty good, and they’re fun to look at. I’d recommend them too.

♥ Cutie Ranking ♥

Content - 2 out of 5. Besides one item everything was fine, I didn’t really hate anything. BUT, I didn’t feel like the box deserved a high content ranking from me personally because it was almost entirely composed of repeats. Theme - 2-3 out of 5. Obviously with the strawberry, chocolate, and hearts we can say they had a cute Valentine’s theme going on. But considering how “sweet oriented” last months box was, I felt like this one could have probably been a bit better? You know, more sweets, more cute fluffiness.

Total Rank: 5 out of 10. It was a perfectly fine box with a nice, well-rounded mix of items. I’d recommend it, especially the tea if you can find it. I still can’t get over how much I liked it, and my headache is gone too :3 But as I said, on a personal level I’m.... pretty disappointed with the box overall. They have made better ones in the past. I love getting to try out new foreign items, so I really hate getting so many repeats in the same box.

Lately, I’ve been considering dropping TokyoTreat and picking up a new brand that I found. I really don’t want to, but it feels like it’s becoming harder to look elsewhere lately...

Kawaii Plushies: My Rilakkuma Collection

Hello, hello again! My love for Japanese Kawaii Plushies have grown since my last blog post and this time, I’m talking all about my RILAKKUMA collection!

Many of you have asked for an update on how my plushie collection has grown and trust me, it definitely has (and maybe a bit too much)! In my last blog post, I talk about how I spent over $5K on my collection of kawaii plushies and well… let’s just say I’ve spent a little bit more since then and my collection is much bigger now.

As collectors, sometimes you don’t even realize how much money you’ve actually spent on collecting until you start seeing that you have almost no more room for any more. At this point, almost every crevice of my shelves is plastered with plushies and even vinyls!

But, if you’re a real collector of plushies or characters that you love, you would understand the happiness and joy that each one of them brings you. Every single time I hold one, I feel very loved and I want to give it love! They just make me so happy so, for me…it’s an investment in my mental health :-).

Difference Between Japanese & US Plushies

I collect Rilakkuma products from both Japan and the US. There are plushies that are made from Japan and they uphold a certain standard of quality. They are typically softer, stuffed more evenly, and have fewer discrepancies in the face of the characters but, Japan-made plushies tend to be more expensive. I prefer Japan made plushies, but sometimes my pocket doesn’t prefer it, so I like to mix and match them.

Some Rilakkuma plushies are also exclusive to manufacturing companies like Aliquantum International (items that are made in China). However, many of those products are exclusive releases to Aliquantum so you won’t find them in Japan. Similarly, Japan releases are not the same as China0manufactured releases. So, if you want a big variety of plushies, it’s best to collect from both for a more eclectic collection.

How I Fell In Love With Rilakkuma

It’s funny and ironic how I fell in love with Rilakkuma. At first, I didn’t think he was even that cute until my photographer introduced me to him. I started doing more research and ended falling for his face.  After discovering his story and digging into all the characters, it was a wrap. I couldn’t get away from them.

The Rilakkuma Origin Story

Rilakkuma is a fictional character produced by the company San-X and created by Aki Kondo in 2003. Rilakkuma is known to spend his day relaxing and he has a zipper on his back that he’s known for.

We don’t know if he’s actually a bear inside or if he’s a human inside. If you watch the show Rilakkuma and Kaoru on Netflix, you’ll see that his costume is hung up on a drying rack, but it never shows who is sleeping in the bed so that’s always a mystery!

Rilakkuma

One day Rilakkuma appears at Kaoru’s apartment, who is a female office worker in Japan. They become friends and Kaoru winds up taking care of him.

Korilakkuma

Korilakkuma, a white bear who is much small and possibly a female, also shows up at Kaoru’s apartment. She has a red button on her chest which she is known for. We also don’t know who exactly she is. Is she a real bear or a fake bear?

Kiiroitori

Then there’s Kaoru’s pet yellow bird name Kiiroitori. Kiiroitori loves to clean and gets easily agitated when the house is disheveled, dusty, or growing mushrooms. He is super cute and I love the way he chirps throughout the show. He is also permitted to leave his cage at any time to take care of Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma.

Chairoikoguma

A new bear was introduced in 2016 named Chairoikoguma. Korilakkuma finds him in the forest one day and befriends him immediately. Chairoikoguma is a brown honey bear with defined fangs and bear-shaped honey patches on his feet and rear. His chest is always white and hairy. It’s so specific but it’s so cute!

If you wanted to check out the show, it’s called Rilakkuma and Kaoru on Netflix. It’s a stop motion animated series so it’s very different from the cartoons that are out there right now. It’s unbelievable how much work was put into each episode and it’s really well made!

What's up with Wax Makes A Mistake?

Excellent question.

Wax Makes A Mistake is the catch-all tag for my attempts to cram several conflicting concepts into unified concepts. At present, these ideas are:

Kiroitori: The first fandom at hand here is BNHA. Figuring out the second fandom ought to be trivial, tbh. In any case, Kiroitori is "A Mistake" because I need to write Many Parallel Stories without severe plot holes and manage several layers of reality at once. For one fandom I don't go to anymore and another I don't go to in a Fandom-y sense.

Refractor: There is not a fandom list to be provided in this case because this list is "all of them". The trigger for this, I admit, happens to be a dream I had two years ago that was altogether quite creepy and probably a product of trying to manage three active fandoms at once, plus side ones. In any case, the result is an attempt to tell a story where Everyone is crammed into a very small space. It's a bad idea. I'm probably never going to write it up as a fic, but I will nevertheless write notes, because that seems to be what I'm good at.

The concepts under Wax Makes A Mistake are frankly far too large to bite off, let alone chew, and thus I've separated them off for your convenience.
