Kite fic level 1–Arguments and Injury
Tumblr media
Warnings: none
Summary: Argument —>injury—> healing
---
The forest was alive with the sounds of nocturnal creatures, the rustling of leaves, and the distant call of an owl. The fire crackled between you and Kite, casting flickering shadows across the clearing. The warmth of the flames was a sharp contrast to the tension in the air, which had been building since the mission earlier that day.
"You can't keep doing this," Kite finally broke the silence, his voice low and filled with frustration. His eyes, usually calm and composed, were narrowed in concern. "You were reckless today, and it almost got you killed."
You met his gaze, refusing to back down. "I knew what I was doing. I can take care of myself, Kite. I’ve been doing this for a long time, just like you."
Kite shook his head, running a hand through his white hair in exasperation. "It’s not about whether or not you can take care of yourself. It's about the risks you're taking. You don't think things through."
"That's not fair!" you snapped, feeling your chest tighten with the weight of his words. "You're always throwing yourself into danger, but when I do it, suddenly it's a problem?"
"It’s different," Kite insisted, his voice rising. "I’ve trained for this. I know my limits, and I know when to push them. But you—" He stopped himself, taking a deep breath, but the anger was still there, simmering beneath the surface.
"But what, Kite?" you demanded, standing up and glaring down at him. "You don’t think I’m capable? That I’m weak?"
Kite stood up too, towering over you, his eyes flashing with a mixture of anger and concern. "No, that’s not what I’m saying. You’re strong, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw yourself into danger every time something happens. We’re supposed to be a team. That means we look out for each other."
You crossed your arms, feeling your heart race with frustration. "And I do look out for you. But you have to let me do my part, Kite. I can’t just stand by and watch while you take all the risks."
"You don’t understand," Kite muttered, turning away from you. He stared into the fire, his shoulders tense. "Every time you put yourself in danger, it feels like my fault. Like I’m not doing enough to protect you."
Your breath caught in your throat, the harshness of his words softening in the face of the vulnerability he rarely showed. "Kite… you don’t have to protect me all the time. I chose to be here, to fight by your side. I know the risks."
He didn’t respond immediately, the firelight casting deep shadows on his face. After a long moment, he spoke, his voice quieter, almost pained. "I can’t lose you. Not like this."
The intensity of his words hit you hard, and for a moment, all your anger evaporated, leaving only the raw emotion between you. "Kite, I’m not going anywhere. But you can’t ask me to stay on the sidelines while you put yourself in danger. We’re in this together, remember?"
Kite turned back to you, his eyes searching yours. "I just… I don’t want to lose anyone else. I’ve already lost too much."
You took a step closer, reaching out to touch his arm. "And I don’t want to lose you either. But we can’t keep fighting like this. We have to trust each other, trust that we know what we’re doing."
Kite’s gaze softened, and he let out a heavy sigh. "Maybe you’re right. But you have to promise me you’ll be more careful. No more unnecessary risks."
You nodded, feeling the tension between you slowly dissipate. "I promise. But you have to promise me the same thing. No more taking on everything by yourself."
He hesitated, then nodded in agreement. "Deal."
For a moment, neither of you moved, the fire crackling softly in the background. Then, almost hesitantly, Kite reached out and cupped your cheek in his hand. The gesture was so gentle, so unlike the rough exterior he often showed, that it made your heart ache.
"I don’t want to fight with you," he murmured, his thumb brushing against your skin. "I’m just scared of what could happen if something goes wrong."
You leaned into his touch, your anger long forgotten. "I know. But we can’t let fear control us. We have to trust each other, and ourselves."
Kite’s eyes searched yours, as if looking for something, and then, without another word, he closed the distance between you. His lips were warm against yours, a mix of desperation and relief in the kiss. It was a kiss that spoke of all the unspoken fears and emotions that had been building between you, a way to bridge the gap that had formed in the heat of the argument.
You kissed him back, your arms wrapping around his neck as you pulled him closer. The tension that had been suffocating you both melted away in the warmth of the embrace, replaced by something softer, something more tender.
When you finally pulled back, you rested your forehead against his, both of you breathing heavily. "We’ll figure this out, Kite. Together."
He nodded, his arms still wrapped around you, holding you close as if he was afraid to let go. "Yeah. Together."
The two of you stood like that for a while, the fire crackling softly in the background, the night growing quieter around you. Eventually, the weariness of the day began to set in, and Kite gently pulled you down to sit beside him by the fire.
You leaned against him, your head resting on his shoulder as the warmth of the flames and the closeness of his body lulled you into a sense of peace you hadn’t felt in a long time. "I’m sorry," you whispered, breaking the comfortable silence.
Kite shook his head. "I’m the one who should apologize. I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that."
"It’s okay," you murmured, closing your eyes as you felt the exhaustion of the day catch up to you. "We were both scared."
"Yeah," he agreed softly, his hand gently running through your hair. "But we’ll get through this. We always do."
You nodded, feeling the last of your tension slip away. The warmth of the fire and the steady rhythm of Kite’s breathing were enough to make you feel safe, despite everything that had happened. "Kite?"
"Hmm?"
"I love you."
Kite’s hand stilled in your hair for a moment, and then he pressed a soft kiss to the top of your head. "I love you too."
Those were the last words you heard before sleep claimed you, wrapped in the warmth of Kite’s embrace, the fire crackling softly beside you, and the forest standing watch as the night carried on.
---
The night passed peacefully, the sounds of the forest lulling you into a deep sleep. When you finally stirred, the first light of dawn was just beginning to filter through the trees, casting a soft glow over the clearing. The fire had burned down to embers, and Kite was still beside you, his arms wrapped around you protectively.
You blinked a few times, momentarily disoriented by the unfamiliar setting, but the warmth of Kite's presence grounded you. He was still asleep, his expression relaxed, free of the tension that had marked the previous day.
For a moment, you simply watched him, feeling a swell of affection in your chest. It was rare to see him so unguarded, so at peace. The gentle rise and fall of his chest, the way his white hair fell across his face—everything about him seemed softer in the morning light.
Not wanting to wake him, you carefully extricated yourself from his embrace and stood up, stretching your stiff muscles. The forest around you was quiet, the early morning air cool and crisp. You took a deep breath, feeling refreshed despite the intensity of the previous day.
As you tended to the remnants of the fire, gathering some sticks to rekindle it, your mind drifted back to the argument. The emotions had been raw, but they had also led to a deeper understanding between you and Kite. It wasn’t easy, but you knew the trust you’d built together had grown stronger as a result.
You were lost in thought when you heard Kite stir behind you. Turning, you saw him sitting up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. A small smile tugged at your lips as you approached him.
"Morning," you said softly, handing him a canteen of water.
He accepted it with a nod, taking a sip before looking up at you. "Morning," he replied, his voice still heavy with sleep. "Did you sleep well?"
You nodded, settling down beside him again. "Yeah, I did. How about you?"
"Better than I expected," he admitted, glancing at the dying embers of the fire. "It’s been a while since I’ve slept so well out in the field."
You smiled at that, feeling a warmth in your chest. "Maybe we should argue more often," you teased lightly, earning a soft chuckle from him.
"I think I’ll pass on that," Kite replied, his tone equally light. Then, more seriously, he added, "But I’m glad we talked things through. It’s not easy, but I don’t want anything to come between us."
"Me neither," you agreed, reaching out to take his hand in yours. "We can’t afford to let fear get in the way of what we’re trying to do."
Kite nodded, his thumb brushing over your knuckles. "You’re right. And I’ll try to be more understanding, to trust you more. It’s just… difficult sometimes."
"I know," you said gently, squeezing his hand. "But we’ll figure it out. Together."
He gave you a small smile, and for a moment, you simply sat there in comfortable silence, holding each other’s hand as the morning light grew stronger around you.
Eventually, the two of you began to prepare for the day ahead. There was still a mission to complete, but the weight of the previous night’s argument had lifted, replaced by a renewed sense of determination.
As you packed up the camp, Kite watched you closely, his expression thoughtful. "You know," he said as he secured his gear, "there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you."
You looked up, curiosity piqued. "What is it?"
Kite hesitated for a moment, as if choosing his words carefully. "I’ve always been a loner, even before I became a Hunter. But with you… things are different. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before."
Your heart skipped a beat at his words, and you felt a warmth spread through you. "Kite…"
He stepped closer, his eyes locking onto yours. "I guess what I’m trying to say is… I don’t want to lose what we have. It’s more important to me than any mission, any fight."
You were momentarily speechless, the sincerity in his voice catching you off guard. "You won’t lose me," you finally managed, your voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside you. "We’re in this together, remember?"
Kite nodded, his expression softening. "Yeah, we are."
The two of you stood there for a moment longer, the world around you fading away as you focused on each other. Then, with a deep breath, Kite leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to your lips, a promise of the bond you shared and the future you would face together.
When you finally pulled away, both of you were smiling, the tension from the previous night a distant memory. "Let’s get moving," Kite said, his voice lighter, more confident. "We’ve got a mission to complete."
You nodded, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "Lead the way."
With that, the two of you set off into the forest, side by side, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. The sun rose higher in the sky, casting golden light through the trees as you walked together, knowing that whatever happened, you would face it together.
And for the first time in a long while, you felt truly at peace.
As the two of you made your way through the dense forest, the peaceful morning air was suddenly shattered by the unmistakable rustling of leaves—too loud to be just the wind or a small animal. Both you and Kite stopped in your tracks, instincts honed by years of experience immediately on high alert.
Kite’s hand went to his weapon, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the surroundings. "Something’s not right," he muttered, his voice tense.
You nodded, your heart pounding in your chest. You had encountered plenty of dangers before, but something about this felt different—more ominous. "What do you think it is?" you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
Before Kite could answer, a large shape burst from the underbrush, moving with incredible speed and ferocity. It was a Chimera Ant, its grotesque form a twisted amalgamation of various animals, standing taller than both of you. Its eyes glinted with a cruel intelligence, and it moved with a terrifying grace that belied its size.
"Kite!" you shouted, instinctively reaching for your weapon, but the Chimera Ant was already upon you. It moved faster than you could react, its massive clawed hand swinging toward you with lethal intent.
Kite reacted instantly, moving between you and the creature with a speed that seemed impossible. His scythe materialized in his hand, the blade swinging upward to deflect the Chimera Ant’s attack. The force of the blow sent the creature skidding back, but it quickly regained its balance, snarling in frustration.
"Get back!" Kite ordered, his voice commanding, but you were already moving, trying to position yourself to help.
The Chimera Ant lunged again, this time aiming for you. You dodged to the side, but it was too fast. Its clawed hand raked across your side, tearing through your clothes and slicing into your flesh. The pain was immediate and excruciating, a searing heat that made you gasp and stumble.
"Dammit!" Kite’s voice was filled with a mix of anger and fear as he saw you injured. He didn’t hesitate, though—his scythe swung in a deadly arc, and with a burst of energy, he unleashed a devastating attack on the Chimera Ant.
The creature was momentarily stunned by the force of Kite’s blow, giving him the opportunity to press the attack. He moved with a precision that was almost terrifying, each strike of his scythe aimed to incapacitate the creature as quickly as possible.
But the Chimera Ant was strong—stronger than most—and it wasn’t going down easily. It retaliated with a ferocity that forced Kite to keep his distance, the two of them locked in a deadly dance as they fought for dominance.
You struggled to stay on your feet, one hand pressed against your injured side as blood seeped through your fingers. The pain was intense, but you couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. Summoning every ounce of strength you had left, you gripped your weapon and prepared to join the fight.
But Kite saw you moving and shook his head sharply. "No! Stay back!" he shouted, his voice leaving no room for argument.
You hesitated, torn between wanting to help and knowing that Kite was right. You were injured, and if you got in the way, it could cost both of you your lives.
Kite seemed to sense your conflict, and with a final, powerful strike, he managed to drive the Chimera Ant back. It staggered, the damage from Kite’s relentless assault finally taking its toll. But instead of pressing the attack further, Kite seized the moment to rush to your side.
"We need to move," he said urgently, his voice strained. "There could be more of them."
You nodded weakly, your vision swimming as the pain threatened to overwhelm you. Kite wrapped an arm around your waist, supporting you as he led you away from the clearing. Every step was agony, but you forced yourself to keep moving, knowing that staying here would only put both of you in more danger.
Kite moved quickly, his eyes constantly scanning the forest for any signs of more threats. He was tense, every muscle in his body coiled like a spring, ready to react at a moment’s notice. But his grip on you was steady, reassuring, and despite the pain, you felt a surge of determination to keep going.
After what felt like an eternity, Kite finally found a place to stop—a small, sheltered area hidden from view by thick underbrush. He eased you down onto the ground, his eyes filled with worry as he quickly assessed your wound.
"You’re losing too much blood," he muttered, his hands moving with practiced efficiency as he tore strips from his own clothing to use as makeshift bandages. "I need to stop the bleeding."
You winced as he applied pressure to the wound, but you bit back any cries of pain, not wanting to distract him. Instead, you focused on his face—the concentration, the determination, the fear he was trying so hard to hide.
"Kite," you said weakly, your voice barely more than a whisper.
He looked up, his eyes meeting yours. "I’ve got you," he said firmly, his voice filled with a resolve that made your chest tighten. "I’m not going to let anything happen to you."
You managed a faint smile, despite the pain. "You’re always saving me."
"And I always will," he replied, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Kite continued to work on your wound, his hands steady even as the fear gnawed at him. He had faced countless dangers in his life, but the thought of losing you was something he couldn’t bear.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the bleeding slowed, and Kite tied off the bandages as tightly as he could. He leaned back, his face pale with exhaustion, but his eyes remained sharp as he continued to watch the surrounding area.
"We need to get you somewhere safe," he said quietly, more to himself than to you. "But we can’t move too far with you in this condition."
You nodded weakly, feeling your strength fading. "I’ll be okay," you murmured, though you weren’t sure if you were trying to convince him or yourself.
Kite shook his head, his expression hardening with determination. "You’re going to be fine," he said firmly, his voice filled with a quiet intensity. "I won’t let anything happen to you."
He stayed by your side, his hand gently brushing the hair from your face as he kept watch. Every so often, his eyes would flicker to your wound, and you could see the worry etched into his features.
"Kite…" you whispered, your voice trembling with a mix of fear and exhaustion.
He leaned closer, his expression softening as he took your hand in his. "I’m here," he said, his voice gentle. "I’m not going anywhere."
You squeezed his hand weakly, feeling a sense of comfort in his presence despite the pain. "I’m scared," you admitted, your voice breaking.
Kite’s expression tightened, and he leaned down to press a soft kiss to your forehead. "I know," he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. "But I’m here. And I’m not going to let anything happen to you. Just hang on a little longer, okay?"
You nodded, tears welling in your eyes as you clung to his hand like a lifeline. "Okay," you whispered, your voice trembling.
Kite stayed with you, his presence a steadying force as the fear and pain threatened to overwhelm you. The world around you seemed to blur, the edges of your vision darkening as exhaustion began to take hold.
But even as you drifted in and out of consciousness, Kite’s voice remained with you, a constant anchor in the darkness.
"Stay with me," he whispered, his voice a lifeline in the encroaching blackness. "You’re strong. You’re going to get through this."
And with those words echoing in your mind, you fought to stay awake, to stay with him. The pain was overwhelming, but Kite’s presence gave you the strength to hold on, to keep fighting.
You weren’t going to give up—not now, not when Kite was by your side.
Kite did everything in his power to stabilize you, his hands steady but his heart racing with fear. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing you, not after everything the two of you had been through together. The forest around you remained eerily quiet, and Kite knew that time was running out. He had to get you to safety, and soon.
After securing the makeshift bandages as best he could, Kite carefully lifted you into his arms. You were light in his hold, your body limp as you struggled to stay conscious. "Just hold on a little longer," he whispered, more to himself than to you, as he began moving swiftly through the forest.
Kite's mind raced as he navigated the terrain, his senses on high alert for any signs of danger. The Chimera Ant could have companions nearby, but Kite was focused solely on getting you to safety. He knew of a nearby cave that could offer some shelter until he could figure out the next steps.
Each step Kite took seemed to blur together as he carried you through the forest, his determination driving him forward. You drifted in and out of consciousness, your vision hazy, but you could still feel the steady rhythm of Kite’s heartbeat against your cheek. It was a sound that gave you comfort, a reminder that you weren’t alone.
Finally, Kite reached the cave. It was small and well-hidden, the entrance partially obscured by thick vegetation. He carefully set you down on a soft patch of moss inside, his hands trembling slightly as he checked your bandages again. The bleeding had slowed, but you were still pale, your breaths shallow and labored.
Kite’s heart ached as he watched you, his mind racing with worry. He wasn’t a healer, but he knew enough to keep you stable until help arrived. He gently brushed a strand of hair from your face, his touch tender despite the urgency of the situation.
"I need to find something to help you," he said softly, his voice filled with determination. "Stay here. I’ll be right back."
You barely managed to nod, your eyes fluttering closed as you drifted back into unconsciousness. Kite hesitated for a moment, torn between staying with you and finding the supplies needed to save you. But he knew that every second counted.
With one last look at you, Kite turned and left the cave, moving quickly and silently through the forest. He knew the area well enough to remember where he might find some medicinal herbs or even a nearby stream where he could get fresh water. His mind raced as he searched, focusing on the task at hand and blocking out the fear that threatened to overwhelm him.
After what felt like an eternity, Kite returned to the cave with a handful of herbs and a small canteen of water. He had moved as quickly as possible, his heart pounding with anxiety the entire time. When he saw that you were still there, still breathing, a wave of relief washed over him.
Kite quickly prepared the herbs, crushing them into a paste with a small rock. He applied it to your wound, hoping it would help stave off infection. He then gently lifted your head to help you drink some water, his hands trembling with the effort to be gentle and not jostle your injury.
As the hours passed, Kite remained by your side, his eyes never leaving you. He kept the fire going to keep you warm, his own exhaustion pushed aside as he focused on keeping you stable. Every time you stirred or murmured in your sleep, Kite was there, whispering reassurances, doing everything in his power to keep you calm and comforted.
By the time night fell again, you had managed to sleep somewhat peacefully, your breathing steady but weak. Kite finally allowed himself to relax, just a little, his eyes heavy with exhaustion but refusing to close. He needed to stay awake, to keep watch over you.
Days passed in this manner, with Kite tending to you tirelessly. He foraged for more herbs, brought fresh water.
Yes, with Kite's unwavering care and determination, you slowly began to recover. Each day, the herbs he applied to your wound helped stave off infection, and your strength gradually returned. Kite was relentless in his efforts to keep you hydrated and comfortable, and his presence was a constant source of reassurance as you fought to heal.
The first sign of your improvement came when you were able to stay conscious for longer periods. Your eyes would flutter open, and though you were weak, you managed to hold brief conversations with Kite. He could see the life slowly returning to your eyes, and it filled him with hope.
As the days turned into weeks, you were able to sit up on your own, and your wound began to close, the pain lessening with each passing day. Kite stayed close, making sure you didn’t overexert yourself and constantly checking your progress. He was patient, never pushing you too hard, but you could see the relief and quiet joy in his eyes every time you made even the smallest bit of progress.
Eventually, you were strong enough to stand and take a few steps with Kite’s help. The first time you managed to walk around the cave, Kite couldn’t hide the smile that spread across his face. "You’re doing great," he said softly, his voice filled with pride.
"I couldn’t have done it without you," you replied, your voice still a little hoarse but filled with gratitude. You looked at him, feeling a deep sense of connection and appreciation. "Thank you, Kite. For everything."
Kite shook his head, but his eyes were warm. "You’re strong. You did most of the work yourself," he said, but you could hear the emotion in his voice.
As you continued to recover, the bond between you and Kite grew even stronger. The ordeal had brought you closer, and the trust and care you shared deepened with each passing day. Eventually, you were well enough to leave the cave and return to the mission that had been put on hold. Your wound had healed, leaving behind a scar, but you were stronger and more determined than ever.
Kite was there every step of the way, watching over you as you regained your strength, and the two of you resumed your journey together. The experience had changed both of you, but it had also solidified the connection you shared. As you walked side by side through the forest, you knew that no matter what dangers lay ahead, you would face them together.
And you did make a full recovery, not just physically but emotionally as well. The bond you shared with Kite, forged in the fires of danger and strengthened by the care you showed each other, was unbreakable. The experience left you both with a deeper understanding of each other, and you knew that whatever challenges the future held, you would face them together, stronger than ever before.
