I legitimately forgot who Kleon was until I looked it up lol

I imagine it would be... mildly chaotic lol. They would probably be separately trying to do some good deeds to fit in with humans, something goes awry which makes them cross paths, they blame each other for what went wrong while the problem snowballs into something worse, until they have to work together to resolve everything

So, all's well that ends well, but chaos ensued

Sentai Reviews: Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger

Going into my rewatch I honestly didn't remember much of Ryusoulger's plot. I rememebered the characters, I remembered how much I loved the ending (Que Boom! Ryusoulger best ending) and I remembered how much I loved its crossover movie with LuPat.

And then I remembered why I didn't remember Ryusoulgers plot all that well. It doesn't have one.

Okay, before I go off on my rant with the negatives of Ryusoulger, because sadly, there is quite a few, I will start out with the positives, and that's the Ryusoulgers themselves.

Ryusoulger has such a wonderful cast of characters, all of who are enjoyable to watch and you find yourself rooting for the whole time. The main three have such a fun dynamic with each other being from the same village and basically growing up and training together, and honestly the siblings have the best relationship and dynamic in the whole show (also Bamba is the best character). Canalo is fun to tease and his relationship with Oto is absolutely precious through and through. Even the non-Ryusoulger characters are entertaining to watch, Ui is a joy every time she's on screen and her dad is equally as entertaining to watch.

But... That doesn't mean every character was perfect. Kleon was honestly the only Villain I somewhat cared about, Wiseru was a kinda close second but even then It didn't really do much. I had no emotional attachment to Master Black because they introduced him truly in like episode 41 and then make his 'grand return' 2 episodes later. And Don't even get me started on Nada. Nada was a great character, but why redeem him only to kill him off literally in the next episode.

I remember watching the solo movie with Sonic and us being like 'wow, this looks nice but the plot feels non-existent at best and messy at work' and that's honestly how the rest of the season felt. There wasn't a real plot or any stakes until the last 8 episode of the season, and some plot points they introduced were never expanded on so when they tried to play those points up from the dramatics near the end it all feel flat.

Ryusoulger's biggest issue was its pacing, because it felt like it was dragging its feet and giving us nothing for about 20 episodes in the middle then remembered it had a story it was supposed to tell and crammed it all into the last 8 episodes of the season. As much as I love the Ryusoulgers as characters, their season was messy, poorly paces and story non existent. The Ryusoulgers shined their best during both of their Crossover Movies (LuPat & Kiramager) because it was in a self contained story and it worked well.

Druidon Tribe

An ancient enemy of the Ryusoul Tribe, that returns to earth in the present day aiming to reconquer it by wiping out humanity, making use of Minusaurs as weapons.

The Drunn soldiers are the soldiers of the Druidon.

The Minusaurs are based on mythical creatures, and are born from various hosts, draining the life force from them, with the absorbtion increasing the more in pain the host is. The Minusaur will eventually grow larger as the host comes closer to death, and will become complete by draining all of the hosts life force.

Kleon is a mushroom slime creature that serves the Druidon by using their slime to create Minusaur hosts. How they feel about their various superiors depends on how they are treated by them. They seem totally impervious to harm, and their origin is a mystery. They create their own video channel on earth, and do various things on it.

The first Druidon general to return to earth, Tankjoh is heavily armoured, prideful but willing to work with Kleon, and has the power to create earthquakes.

Wyzul is the second General to arrive. A flamboyant showman and master of disguise, he uses various methods to try and complete their schemes, including a few attempts to acquire some of the sleeping Kishiryu.

Gachireus is the 3rd general to appear, around the same time as Canalo appears. A believer in strategy, he nonetheless pushes unreasonable expectations on Kleon. He has aquatic combat abilities, possessing something of a submarine form.

Gaisoulg, a mysterious armoured figure that resembles the Ryusoulgers, serves as something of an ally for the Druidon due to common interests, having unsealed some of the sleeping Kishiryu.

Pricious arrives on earth late in the series, forcefully taking command by taking Wyzul and Gachireus' hearts hostage. They aim to establish Druidon supremacy by unsealing the Druidon mother, Eras, and through her creating an army of Druidon soldiers loyal only to them.

y'know i've never liked yodonna and never will. i hate how she treats the bechats and jamenshi. she's overly cruel, even moreso than gachileus, who i don't like either because he's so cruel to kleon. i don't mind characters being mean to each other, but the kicking and whipping over and over with no thought makes me very uncomfortable.

Kleon Rambles

In Ryusoulger Kleon is constantly looked down upon by the Druidons. Although he's literally the only reason that they are able to create Minusaurs they treat him as an underling and he's often bullied. Time and time again Kleon thinks he'll be able to earn the respect he deserves but it never comes to him. In episode 41 he is faced with the concept of being purposefully misguided in order to be made to stick around, but to never really have a chance to be respected in the way he's promised. When he thinks about it he's saddened by the fact that this seems like what has happened to him. Even though he has good memories with Tankjoh and Wyzul it doesn't change the fact that he's not treated the way he should be or given the respect he deserves and it's frustrating.

Kleon's suspicions of being misguided are only strengthened when Saden ignores him, making him go after the Ryusoul Calibur himself instead of handing it to Saden.

When Saden attacks Kleon in order to get the Ryusoul Calibur from Kleon, it causes a shift.

Although Kleon could run off and give Pricious the Ryusoul Calibur and possibly get the respect he craves, he instead throws Koh the Ryusoul Calibur to aid in the fight against Saden.

After Saden withdraws, Koh thanks Kleon for his assistance and Kleon makes an excuse as he runs off to find Wyzul.

Having witnessed the passion of the Ryusoulgers and seeing how they saved him, he begins to put faith in the idea of them helping Wyzul retrieve his heart so that he may be in control of himself again. Being that Wyzul is the only person Kleon is fond of and has nice memories with, Wyzul's survival is important to him.

I really like how this is all done. I like that this has been a gradual build up and that it was this rejection of Kleon that lead him to thinking about putting faith in the Ryusoulgers even if it wasn't to go against the Druidons, but to save someone he cared about. It's not a complete turn around but it's planting the seeds.
