Day 66 Update (really day 69, I took the selfie 🤳🏾 3 days ago) No judgement zone👩🏾‍⚖️ progress not perfection... besides better late than never. Rice 🍚 water 💦 treatment 🧖🏾‍♀️ is a keeper. It’s steady in rotation & my hair loves it 💁🏾‍♀️. My previous observations that were only subtle are now more noticeable & getting better (more manageable, increased shine, extra volume & easy to detangle) Last update, I wasn’t sure about growth - there’s no doubt now. My hair is growing y’all. I’m even playing around with different style ideas 💡 because there’s hair to make them happen 🙌🏾 🙌🏾. I had switched from the L. O. C. to the L. C. O. method & I didn’t notice that much difference. I’ll admit that my hair didn’t seem as weighed down with product by doing L. C. O. but it could also partly be because I only use low -porosity hair friendly ingredients & wash day is every Sunday to avoid build up. Nevertheless I’m going to keep doing the L. C. O. because 🤷🏾‍♀️ if it ain’t broke why fix it. Light shedding is still an issue so I may focus on trying to correct this for the next 30 days. Not sure why it’s happening, it’s definitely improved from the hair breakage I was dealing with before but I’m trying to hold on to as much new growth as possible. I’ve heard getting a “dusting” 💇🏾‍♀️ of my ends might help, not sure 🤔 if I’m ready for that yet. We’ll see 🤨 My mainstays for leave-in & oil are DIY stuff that I put together in my lab 🧪 🧫 🔬 (those who know, KNOW 😉) using natural ingredients. Since I’m starting to get a little more adventurous with styling my TWA I’m becoming quite the #ProductJunkie with trying out new styling products for natural hair the past few weeks. So far I’m having a blast 🚀 experimenting with @mielleorganics but I’ll do another post about that later. Well it’s official!! I’m now a believer of elongation on shrinkage-prone hair. Tried something new with my TWA. I didn’t think that my hair was long enough for a twist out yet but this Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter Curl Stretch Pudding from @sheamoistureca proved me wrong. The definition is surreal but my hair feels so soft and moisturized. I started with wet hair when twisting and this pudding definitely minimized my natural shrinkage. With tomorrow being #WashDay I like to get a jump on things by doing a #HotOilTreatment from the night before. Here’s how I do it - Low Porosity Style 1. Mix all oils together in a applicator bottle. 2. Shampoo your hair once and cover with T-shirt or microfiber absorbing hair towel. 3. Place a small pot of water to boil. 4. Once boiling shut off and remove from stove. 5. Place applicator bottle in the water for 1-2 minutes. 6. Add essential oils to promote growth. 7. Finger part hair into 4 sections. 8. Test temperature of oil on inner wrist to make sure it isn’t too hot. 9. Starting with the first section, begin by oiling your scalp with the warmed oil and then work it out to the ends of your hair. 10. Complete the remaining sections. 11. Cover your hair with a plastic cap. 12. Then place steam cap over the plastic cap (I use a microwaveable one so I can move around freely) 13. Keep it in for a minimum of 30 minutes - the longer the better even overnight is great. (I just go to bed) 14. I lost my knitting 🧶 moxie a little while ago... I stopped test knitting for designers. I’ve gotten hate messages in my DMs for not knitting. I even stopped making personalized items for my babies 👶🏾. That should’ve been the first sign that something’s wrong. Then I got some squishy mail (yarn 🧶) as a surprise 🤔. It just so happened to be my favorite color 🤨. While going through my archives I came across a pattern from a Canadian 🇨🇦 designer I’ve never knitted before. I think I just got my moxie back. So I have a small confession to make. Sometimes my #SelfCareSunday doesn’t go as planned. I mean it’ll still be a me day BUT sometimes the procrastination is so real that #WashDay doesn’t happen 😱. I figured one week off wouldn’t make a difference right. Being that I have low porosity hair the product build up alone doesn’t make that realistic for me plus I do feel guilty for neglecting my NouNou (my hair 👑) Co-washes are counter productive for my hair but at the same time shampooing and conditioning still wouldn’t be enough to lock in and retain moisture until the next wash day. Don’t forget I’m also a lazy Naturalista too. So here’s a quick #HumpDayHairHack and treat for your crown 👸🏾. Ingredients: * 1/4 cup Honey * 1/2 cup of Any Moisturizing Oil (see list) * 2 Teaspoons Moringa Powder Instructions: Add all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl. (Optional) Warm the honey first in the microwave for 20 seconds. Fully saturate your hair from root to ends with the mixture and massage 💆🏾‍♀️ into your scalp. Keep it in for 20-30 minutes (Apply heat too, I use a microwaveable steam cap) Then shampoo and condition as usual. Seriously, I look forward to my wash days because they’re my “me days” also.
