Quietly reminding people -

"Waking the Dragons" has its faults and flaws, but it did have an impact on the subsequent series. A good portion of the spinoff series following YGO DM had a season that:

had a cult that came up against the main charas; said cult usually was founded around a culture that was dead/dying/mythological in nature

had one of the regularly appearing cast members "betray" the main group

introduced a character that directly interacted with Duel Spirits that weren't the main character

We wouldn't have gotten those if not for Season 4 at least opening the door to that idea to be explored.

I will also add that the dub had to significantly water down the source material for localization, and in the sub there's a lot more nuance that's missed in the dub. The dynamic between characters, the dilemmas they faced, everything. I won't pretend that the sub fixes everything, but a good portion of the criticism I hear is based on material in the dub, and from what I've seen the abridged pulls from that dub (wouldn't know for sure, since I can't make myself watch the abridged for this season ^^;;;;). I challenge people to watch the sub - hell, even the dynamic between Dartz and Raphael alone is much different than what's presented in the dub!

I know. Sub vs dub doesn't completely save the plot. They could have handled Mai so much better, they could have done things differently on explaining certain elements (ie Atlantis)...but for an original arc, not based on manga or pre-existing material? I'd say they did a good job with it.

OK but I absolutely loved this!! like, I know they're friends, we've seen them grow up together, she was with them from the start. but this just shows that their relationship goes beyond just tolerating each other for taijus sake. she's one of his besties, an OG and I loved seeing this validated!

I feel as though people (mostly people who aren't insanely wataeipilled, or involved with shipping in general) are misunderstanding what we're upset about. It's not the simple assumption that we want wataei to be "canon" and that we're upset that that can't happen because of Eichi getting married, it's that HappyEle have been on a character assassination spree recently (Izumi in Mad Party & Kohaku in Last Mission) and we're worried that's going to happen to Wataru and/or Eichi. Regardless of shipping, Eichi never told Wataru, who's supposed to be his "best friend" that he's essentially been engaged to Tori's sister for the best part of a year. If Wataru isn't upset about this, then they've done it once again, because Wataru trusts Eichi to take his mask off around him; whilst the mask is "him", the "mask's purpose" (the title of his card in EP:Link) is to hide oneself. Wataru took it off for EICHI and Eichi ALONE. He put himself on display, allowed his facade to begin to fade around him and be his authentic "self" and opened himself up to possibly even be hurt (which he was immediately, by the way, and CRIED over it. HIBIKI WATARU. CRIED. Because Eichi was indifferent to his confession of love) because he trusts Eichi, and Eichi's told Wataru before (Tempest) that he also trusts him. So, is it or is it not blatant character assassination, and possibly even going back on their more recent development of becoming more honest with each other, if Wataru is not upset with this development?

Alister’s sub name, Amelda, translates from the German name Irmhild, which means “all encompassing fight”. Miruko was possibly romanized and translated from Mirko, Slavic for “peace.”

In the dub, Alister’s name means “mankind’s defender,”; his brother Mikey derives his name from Michael, translating to “gift from God” and also the patron angel of the military.

It’s been literal years since this season aired and it’s only just now hitting—Alister and his brother were themed after War and Peace.

Of course Alister wouldn’t care how far he’d go to face Kaiba and make the man pay for what he lost. Of course Alister’s going to rain down Hell on the ones who destroyed his life. Of course there are no more limits to watch for, of course he’d go so far as to self-destruct in their second duel.

Why?

When Alister lost his brother, peace was never again an option.

actually i'm still not over 4d science ruining aroace senku. like even if he ends up with someone who isn't kohaku, it'd still come out of nowhere, but with kohaku especially it's just weird??? they've never had that kind of bond even tho there have been a few close moments throughout the story, like the hug in the treasure island arc, but (this might be my biased ass talking) he's literally had more intimate and almost romantic moments with gen out of anyone, and while the impossible scenario of sengen being canon would be nice it'd still ruin what made senku such a good character to begin with

so yeah, if 4d science goes through with what it's hinting at it's not canon to me <3
