This silly girl is Petey, my third guide dog, and she’s 12 today! I bought her a filled bone and a bag of carrots for us to share and she got lots of treats today. She’s also getting all the ice she wants. :D
I’d like her last year or so to be the best it can be. If anyone wants to gift her something specific I will put funds towards that. Anything else will go towards paying off the $2k in medical debt this cutie has wracked up in the past couple years and if I can raise more, I would like to be able to get her arthritis shots once a month so she can be more comfortable (they are $150 a month after vet visit fees; they help her a lot and I’ve shed some tears knowing I can’t do this for her).
I will of course pass on any birthday wishes and pets. :)
best part of the holiday was giving my dog his present, and him carrying it around in his mouth for a solid 25 mins. Happiness is small dog with a stuffed raccoon toy

In the latest installment of Toytanic, I take a look at the McFarlane Toys Hong Kong Phooey figure originally released in the 2000s.
This figure was gifted to me by @sirkain.
Thanks so much!

Thinking abt Will doing silly little enrichment activities with his dogs. In summer he freezes strawberries into a block of ice and just lets them go to town on it. He probably owns a million different types of lick mats. He'll hide something tasty in the forest and let them run around looking for it. He probably even encourages them to dig in his flower beds
coworker who doesn’t kennel her samoyed at all except for punishment, doesn’t exercise him enough, doesn’t give him enough stimulation for the long hours she is away: my dog has horrible separation anxiety, screams when i’m gone, destroys my apartment, and is on anxiety meds for it, but they aren’t working???
Would you be willing to share some of your favorite dog toys or toy brands (especially toys for super chewers)? If not, thank you anyway <3
Slash was really cute with his Kong, by the way!
Sure!
My dogs don't get a lot of toys since I'm not a "leave toys out" household (my dogs would fight over toys if left unsupervised).
Some of my favorites are:
KONG - I like a lot from this brand and besides the traditional kongs my the boys are obsessed with the Kong Wobblers (Zombie is too single braincell to figure this out). Also love the giant squeaky tennis balls (no fear of dogs choking).
Messy Mutts - Lickmats, i love the fact i can get a lick mat with a hard edge (harder for my dogs to rip at the material)
Tug-E-Nuff - These tug toys are GREAT. I love that they come in real sheepskin and rabbit skin, it's really engaging for my dogs and the bungee will save your arm if you have a strong dog.
Ethical Pet BamBones - A bamboo fiber chew bone, i like these because they aren't as hard as other synthetic chews so a bit less risk to the teeth, but if you have a really heavy chewer they might break bits off.
Benebone - just like...my average chews, my dogs only get chews once in the morning before i go to work and again in the evening when i have dinner, so I may not be the best gauge of strength.
Overall these are the items i use most often (Sigurd likes stuffed toys a lot but the other dogs cannot have them and he is literally so gentle/non chewy. he still has the tiny baby toy he was sent home with). I also have tried SO MANY rubber chews "for the TOUGHEST DOGS" that advertise they're going to be more appealing to dogs than others of its kind and they never fucking work lol.
Note to self and all other German Shepherd dog owners....the x-tra tuff Nerf frisbee is NOT enough. Nope, not at all. This, my friends, is after only 5-10 minutes of play and 4 throws. Nope, nope, nope. Bear girl didn't even try that hard to "kill" it! Just a few chomps and shakes on her way back for more throwing fun, and one very short chewing session before mom could get to her.
On the flip side, we've found the Kong brand frisbees are "Bear proof". And let me tell ya, she's tried to "kill" that thing for many minutes at a time! Worth the money for sure.
Thankfully little girl doesn't make a habit of swallowing the chips and shards she chews off of whatever she is currently enjoying as a chew toy. But ya know, I don't really want to find out the hard way that she forgot she was chewing and not eating!
