I couldn’t help but think that metalocalypse copied korgoth of barbaria and adult swim didn’t green light it since it was too similar to metalocalypse.

Korgoth of Barbaria | June 4, 2006 – 12:30AM | Special
Korgoth of Barbaria was another pilot for a would-be series, relegating it to “special” status. I remember some hype for this because of the involvement of Gendy Tartakovsky, creator of Samurai Jack among other things. I watched it, and thought it was “pretty cool”. Will this hold up after rewatching it for the blog? Yes. It will. Okay, goodnight.
Hey, I’m just joking around. Stop freaking out. Jesus Christ. You are making a fool of yourself.
Yes, I liked this special then and I like it now, but I’m not sure how much interest I’d have in watching an entire series of this. One was enough. Maybe a movie? Yeah, I’d watch a movie of this. That’d be cool. But the story is basically this: Korgoth is a legendary barbarian who lives in a post-apocalyptic landscape that resembles medieval times. There are things like newspapers and eyeglasses and other things that stuck around, reminding the viewer that this is a post-apocalyptic hellscape and not historical fantasy. The most obvious comparison that comes to mind is Adventure Time.
Korgoth gets roped into an evil guy’s plan to rob a presumed-dead wizard of his valuables. Why would Korgoth agree to such a thing? Well, he’s been poisoned, and will only get the antidote upon delivery of said wizardly goods. He’s set up with some henchmen to go with him and they fight various perilous things on the way to the wizards castle... only to have him come home from vacation, not dead like they thought.
I like this pilot a lot. The animation is GREAT, and is full of creative violent outbursts. There’s even sex appeal, with some John K style babes drawn into the proceedings (and by that I mean they are all 12 years old). It looks way more digital ink and painty than I remembered. And there’s some good voices from Tom Kenny, John DiMaggio, and Dedrich Bader as Korgoth, a fact that I constantly learn and forget every time I look this up on IMDB.
This was made available on the Adult Swim Pilots DVD that is probably rare now. That’s the DVD that puzzlingly comes with Perfect Hair Forever on it even though that became a series. But if you wanna own this and Eltingville in one tidy package, this is the disc to click. Click it!

Space Ghost Coast to Coast: The GameTap episodes (May 30, 2006 – May 30, 2008)
I won’t cover this yet. Not in depth, anyway. But around this time, Gametap started airing new, even shorter episodes of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, this time with Tad interviewing people from the gaming world. I’ve never actually watched these, and don’t intend to until later when I do my between-year Space Ghost recaps. I WILL watch them then! But not now! Nasty! Until then just know that this was a thing.

What's with Aaron Springer anyway?
Everybody in the United States knows him as the storyboarder on SpongeBob SquarePants for Nickelodeon but he was the creator of Billy Dilley’s Super-Duper Subterranean Summer for Disney XD which lasted for one season. Prior to his show, he created failed animated TV pilots such as Periwinkle Around the World for Cartoon Network & Korgoth of Barbaria for Adult Swim. My guess is that he’s now the head of story for the 3rd SponeBob movie next year in honor of the late Stephen Hillenburg who passed away on November 26th, 2018, both him & J. G. Quintel are not my influences.

Everyone is losing their minds over some offense from Hazbin Hotel’s creator and I’m just sitting here going “Yeah, cost - celebritiy comedians + limited appeal of adult animation that isn’t comedian driven or action base = The New Korgoth of Barbaria.”
God, they should have made Korgoth a series, but...sometimes the numbers don’t add up. So I wouldn’t worry about what is or isn’t problematic before seeing if you’re gonna get more than one. Because Hazbin Hotel...probably isn’t getting more than one.

Death's Gambit: Is there a connection?
Death’s Gambit: Is there a connection?
A long, long time ago…well perhaps it wasn’t that long ago but it feels that way. It was a casual day and I was doing some casual scrolling through YouTube when I ran across Death’s Gambit. Let me be clear about something. This is the type of game I love. I mean really love. Listen I am not talking about a fling here, this is true love. Sorry, I can get carried away.

Because this Thundercats Roar business has me lamenting the state of American animation over my morning coffee and oatmeal, I decided now would be a perfect time to make myself more upset over a medium I care about by remembering a really good cartoon that never got made for the same reason Thundercats Roar is being made - Budget, in this case, the cost being way too high.
For those of you who never heard of this, this is Korgoth of Barbaria, a 2004 pilot made by Aaron Springer and Genndy Tarrovosty (yeah, the Samurai Jack guy) that was a take on the Barbarian Hero genre, particularly Thundarr the Barbarian.
Everyone loved it, but it was way too expensive to make, so we only have the one. Because that’s what happens in the entertainment medium unfortunately.
