Knights of the Old Republic: Meetra Surik, the Exile
I just noticed this is not as saturated on my phone as it was on the PC screen 😔
I wanted to achieve a card-like look on the first one but Idk, it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but it looks beautiful!

Appearing to someone in a vision to chide them for giving a homeless veteran 5 credits is insane. I love you, Kreia <3
Can I believe this is the best art I have done for these two games since I started playing two months ago? Nope. But here we are!

finally thought about my exile boy raith and his padawan during the mandalorian war...
they got their noses pierced together as a bonding exercise and raisa picked out all of their matchy robes. father-daugher duo taking on the world. surely nothing horrible will happen

A Word About Dedelai Totolai
I want to talk a bit about Ifan's master, Dedelai, because he's sort of a metatexual element within the narrative. He is both a commentary on art as a creative endeavor as well as being sourced in two deconstructions of power which were influential on me as a writer:
Ifan's origin story, True Wisdom, is written from Dedelai's perspective and deals with his crisis of faith regarding the value of sorcery compared to technology. 'Sorcery' in this case being a metaphor for art and writing in the age of techbro nonsense.
He arrives at his conclusion, however, thanks to Ifan and a gentle reminder from his memory, Thaliak, or Hydaelyn (you the reader get to choose, even if I have my own answer, lol)
The quote "Life is filled with joys pleasing to the eyes of heaven, but knowledge without action is empty" is sourced directly from the Orange Catholic Bible in Dune, as are several other things which Dedelai taught Ifan. Again, poignant for me in an age of feckless technology:
The other things which Dedelai taught him are sourced from a different figure, and her deconstruction of the role "magic" (i.e the Force) and determinism play within Star Wars. Endwalker especially put me in heavy mind of predestination (and hitsuzen for xxxHolic fans)
Dedelai was an excellent teacher, as Ifan graduated from his tutelage being a skilled mage and self-sufficient man, but at the same time the flaws in the above philosophies are also present within Ifan: for example his reticence to lean on others, even to his own self-harm. So even if Ifan wasn't directly harmed by Garlemald, he still bears the scars of Empire: if only because he inherited teachings that were very much a reaction to a personal and political crisis. Dedelai is sort of a Hobbesian figure in that regard.
At the end of the day, though, it is telling that the two spells that Dedelai made the focus of Ifan's apprenticeship were neither offensive in nature and both deeply personal.
His greatest gift was the legacy of magic as something sourced in imagination and love for others. And ironically I'd say it was that which enabled Ifan to become a Dark Knight of sorts, too. The essence of their power being love and conviction (at least in my view) was already analogous to Ifan's own idea of what magic "should" be.

another reason I think I prefer the idea that malena does survive the destroy ending is because the narrative between javik and her is both mirrored and cyclical as well. he once said to her, “only when the last reaper has been destroyed will my purpose be fulfilled; I have no other reason to exist,” but she refutes that to encourage him finding a new role in this cycle, and come priority earth, he’s accepted it to the point that he says this is her time to lead to victory against the reapers, not his anymore, and he’ll see the galaxy when it’s over to explore and find a new reason to live. he gets to have an after now. so the torch gets passed on from one civilization’s beacon of hope to another, and so does the search for purpose when their respective duties are done.
