REQUEST FOR KAZEKI VOL 12 PAGES

Hello! I am the translator for Vols 12-17 of Kaze to Ki no Uta.

All of my imgur albums are broken, as some may have noticed. The images still exist on my account, so I was able to save Vols 13-17 (along with Vol 10 and Koufuku no Hato) and repost them on a google drive. HOWEVER, Vol 12's images are ALL DELETED, and I was a fool and never backed them up after posting on imgur. I was able to find the first 70 pages reposted on a website, but that's not the entire volume.

If anyone has saved Vol 12's translation, PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME so I can upload them onto google drive.

1. Your top 5 however many reads of 2023

This is really difficult to answer so I'll cheat just like you and ramble on a bit hehe

Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku by Hiro is the one I started the year with, finally, after watching the anime the year before. I love how it depicts the joy and beauty in everyday life, the art is stunning, the girls are super cute, and I'm here for the lesbian undertones that's become its own serious storyline by now!!!

I have a very soft spot for River's Edge by Kyoko Okazaki. This year I delved into josei manga for a good bit, and River's Edge is the first one I read (this year, purposefully). I love the sketchy art, the imperfect people, and the realness of the story. I don't know if I'll like it as much on a second read, but I was very impressed and inspired by my first time reading it. Other impactful josei works I read this year were Shibou to Iu Na no Fuku wo Kite and Bikachou Shinshi Kaikoroku by Moyoco Anno. I love reading about women and women's struggles :') Her art is gorgeous too! Oh and speaking of gorgeous art, a third josei highlight from this year was Kaoru Fujiwara. I did not consume her works, I let Sono Saki no Fuukei consume me. I love how it forces the reader to think and how it doesn't really open up until a second or third read-through. It was very dreamlike, and tragic with some uncomfortable themes, just the way I like it heh.

Out of all the yuri I read, Yume no Hashibashi by Yumi Sudou is the one that still lingers in my mind. I loved the construction of the story with each chapter going backwards in time, to finally reveal the tragic past of the sorrowful lives we've been following all along. The story is extra hurtful, because there are countless of stories like theirs in real life, of women who can't be with the women they love because of social, cultural and legislative reasons. I cried by the time I finished reading it!

Another manga that left a big impression on me was Hiraeth wa Tabiji no Hate by Yuhki Kamatani. The art and imagery were amazing, and I'm weak to stories about death and grief. The conclusion made me cry - to have such small and seemingly simple things in life be the reason you decide to keep on living!

Lastly, this has also been the year where I began reading Shuuzou Oshimi's manga. The first one I picked up was Okaeri Alice, and the latest I read was Chi no Wadachi, and they're both my favourites from his works. I love how deep they delve into the characters mindsets, I love the themes, and of course the art is pleasing to look at. I especially love how much of the stories are conveyed through images alone. They hit deeper when you have to read an expression rather than words.

6. Your favorite one-shot

I only read a couple of one-shots this year (that I've tracked anyway) so it's easy to give this one to Koufuku no Hato by Keiko Takemiya, a short sequel to Kaze to Ki no Uta (as if that series hasn't given me brain damage and it couldn't be my favorite otherwise).

7. The manga you reread the most

Probably Sono Saki no Fuukei, I read it, then I instantly read it again, and then I read it a third time the next day, just to experience the story again while trying to make more sense of it. I really, really loved that one!

Otherwise I haven't been rereading anything that much. Maybe Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu by Mokumokuren, since I read each chapter in Japanese, then a quick English translation and then a proper English translation later on. ...Now that I think about it, I have actually reread everything that's been published so far a few times last year, and I would've loved to reread it even more, but for some reason it takes suuuuuper long for the chapters/pages to load and I can't bother waiting half the time? It's a crime, honestly.

I've also reread the last few chapters of Double by Ayako Noda a few times, whenever I check if there are any new ones out. Same for Happy Shitty Life by Harada, although it's been so long I've gotten tired of them by now haha. Besides that, I have been rereading Harada a good amount, but it's usually bits and pieces here and there, not full works so it's difficult to estimate how much I've reread them.

12. A manga that made you look forward to every update

Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu is legitimately what keeps me going from one week to the next ;___; I love that manga so much!!!!

I also always make sure to savour each new chapter of Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku. I haven't figured out if that series has a release schedule, and if it does the releases are far and few, so it's always a treat to get one. And now with the aforementioned lesbian storyline I'm even more eager to see what the next chapter will bring!!!

Koufuku no Hato

In my quest to find more Kazeki content, it has come to my attention that Kazeki had a sequel manga, Koufuku no Hato (幸福の鳩), but as a filthy pirate, all I could find was dead scan links and a translation. Where was it?

This 49-page sequel was first published in Takemiya Keiko's Umi no Tenshi (海の天使/Chérubin de la mer) art book in 1991. It was also included in the later editions of Kazeki. The digital edition has this sequel one shot too, so if you are looking for it, your best bet is to get volume 16 from a Japanese e-book seller like this or this one. Seriously, don't be cheap and buy it if you love Kazeki.

I prefer making life harder for myself, so I got the art book and tried scanning Koufuku no Hato for the fandom's pleasure. I highly suggest that you get the e-book to have a better reading experience. I don't know how to scan things and the gutter shadow ruins every page (but come on, don't expect me to rip my beautiful Takemiya art book apart to scan this), but you can get it here.

Have this hilarious Rosemariné/Jules moment. Enjoy all the fanservice Takemiya gave you until you see the no homo ending.

Informations about “The Dove of Hapiness”/ Kazeki short sequel

Recently, I have discovered that “Kaze to Ki no Uta” has a short sequel besides Agnus Dei.

  Koufuku no Hato ( 幸福の鳩 )or The Dove of Hapiness is a a short sequel which was published seven years later after Kazeki was written (1991). this story doesn't have a manga of its own, It was published in the Umi no Tenshi Artbook, here is the cover:

The Dove of Hapiness was published in  Nov 30, 1991; with just one chapter.

 The main characters of this story are Jules and Rosemariné. Serge, Patricia and others appear as secondary characters. Everything happens in 1886, three years after Gilbert’s death, and tells what happened to the other characters (like Carl and Pascal) and about the past of Rosemariné and Jules.

This little story clarifies some information that was not revealed in the main series. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the Japanese scans of this manga, and all the websites I searched for it had a download link, but the link was disabled.

 I only found out the dialogue’s translation without the images,  but it is possible to understand the story only through dialogues.

As far as I could understand, Jules narrates most of the events, but some thoughts and Rosemariné's point of view are shown. It is worth reading, especially if you want to know more about what happened to the secondary characters and get interested in the strange and affectionate relationship between Rosemariné and Jules.

Just letting you know that this story contains spoilers, so I recommend you finish reading Kazeki before you start reading The Dove of Hapiness.

My short analysis of the history:

I found it interesting that Takemiya-San wrote another sequel to the main series, perhaps she acknowledged the fact that the secondary characters gained as much recognition as the main ones.

Again, she used the same technique of breaking the reader's expectations at the end of the story, frustrating those who hoped that Rosemariné and Jules would reveal their feelings for each other. It is sad to know that the two left after they graduated, and that Serge and the other boys are also not as close as before.

The cruelest fact of the story is that Auguste's redemption arc did not happen, he simply stopped supporting the school financially, just helping Jules until he graduated from college.

Perhaps the phrase that most summarizes Kazeki is: no matter how much you want, sometimes there are no happy endings.

One thing caught my attention, Rosemariné's thoughts suggest that he has feelings for Jules, but he just doesn't reveal it and remains as cold as he always is. We are used to seeing Jules feeling admiration and other things for Arion, but not vice versa, I found that interesting.

It is beautiful to see that since they were children, the two were inseparable and always took care of each other, even if they did not show it explicitly. Jules used to say that he was close to Rosemariné because of his financial support, but this story proves the opposite, especially when he thinks about how his future bride looks like Arion.

It was like Serge marrying Irene because she looks like Gilbert, it seems that it is a characteristic of Takemiya to make her characters marry female versions of the people they really love.

And in the end, when we finally believe that they can be together or at least reconnect, our expectations are shattered and we remember the tragic end of most characters. Apparently, none of them reached true happiness, some just ended up less worse.

Hello, i hope that you could answer my question. Is there a translation of the 3 novel Agnus Dei available ? Or just the summary of these books ? I had the physical version and its seem interesting.

 Thank you for your question, I’ve made a research (both in English and in Japanese) and I couldn’t find anything. I only found Japanese websites where you can buy the physical version.

 If anyone have more information, please comment and share this post. Let’s help each other.

I really hope we eventually find a translation, because I’ve only read the KazeKi translation and  Koufuku no Hato (The Dove of Hapiness) translation.

 But there are some Agnus Dei spoilers around the Tumblr, I hope that can help you.

Thanks to the power of casually asking everyone I know that knows Japanese to do it, a friend of mine has done translation of the Kaze to Ki no Uta epilogue!

For those unfamiliar with it (i.e. probably most of you), this is a short story that was published in an artbook in 1991, seven years after the main series ended. Set three years after the series, Dove of Happiness mentions a little bit about what happened to several of the characters, but the action focuses on Rosemariné and Jules both in this time and in flashbacks. You'll be able to understand it without finishing the series, but of course there are spoilers, particularly the one spoiler that everyone probably knows already.

I am, of course, intensely pleased by how this goes because Rosemariné and Jules' relationship is pretty much my favorite thing about Kazeki and it definitely fills up some of the holes that the main series left open to focus on the leads.

Should you not have the raw handy, I have a download available here. As for scanlations, I'll probably be putting one together at some point, but seeing as I scanlate at the speed of a sloth, don't hold your breath for it.
