I'm sorry but if you randomly have to change the personality of a well liked queen with a similar personality to Navier into some sort of rapist/pedo archetype just to prove Navier was always good, you're a bad writer, like on the worst level.

This isn't just a small case of rushing the plot or dumbing down a character, those are all writing flaws but they aren't gross, they're just at worst downright lazy in order to get to the spicy parts.

What IS gross is taking an incredibly dark subject matter like rape and pedophilia, which is already hard to nail properly, and randomly insert that on a character, not to tell a story or as a meaningful effect on the plot but rather to further push the idea that your protagonist can never be wrong. That and it's just a lazy way of keeping the protagonist as the hero.

While Krista trying to assault Heinrey is still up in the air depending on the translation (Some translations Krista doesn't know Heinrey was drugged and just assumed he came onto her and in others, she ordered Kaufman to drug Heinrey so she could rape him) Krista being a pedo was designed to be definite since Heinrey is 19 and Krista is Naviers age, if she were to be in love with him the whole time that would make her into kids. (She would've been 20 when he was 14)

Before this though, Krista was never implied to really love Heinrey until much later. (She even looked sad when her husband was on his death bed) She was essentially a woman who was much like Navier and didn't want to give up her queen position. This SOUNDS like an interesting plot that could deliver Navier some introspection but turns out, nope, it was not and when people actually started to agree with Krista, the narrative said "Oh yeah well she's actually a rapist pedophile! Take that!"

Like... they aren't even bothering to use the subject matter to at least tell a story, it's just there to prove how Heinrey will always love Navier and nothing else happens. We just got a bunch of dark imagery of the male lead getting ASSAULTED by his sister in law all for more cheap romance and proving that Krista was always bad.

Navier stans sneakily increasing birdshit's age to 20 in wikia instead of 19 as mentioned in the novel to make her look like less creepy. Insert meme: "They think we wouldn't notice but we did"

Funny how they call Sovieshu creep for marrying an adult woman or calls Krista pedo for liking birdshit despite being younger/around his age but Navier gets a pass for marrying a literal teenager despite being in her mid twenties.

If Krista liking birdshit makes her a pedo, what does that make your fav?

I wouldn't have brought it up but I'm seeing too many Rashta antis being brainless idiots and it was getting annoying.

(Chapter 130)

I'm working through the tail end of the Uprising arc, so I went to look through my Historia tag and it's nothing but confusion over her actual motivation in the last arc by me and a list of various interpretations by many anons, so I just skipped ahead to take another look at her scenes in the Rumbling arc and I think some of those answers are absolutely horrible on my part, so I want to put this post on top of the tag.

None of this is as ambigious as it seemed to be to me back then.

I overcomplicated the events so much due to how they were was presented even after the story was done and I never went back to properly read the arc or even this volume of chapters as a complete whole.

So my newest take on this revisit is the following:

Historia agrees with Eren because she cares about the survival of the island above all else. She initially argues against Eren's plan, but ultimately agrees with Eren because of her decision to reject the Titan serum earlier in the story (this comes together nicely now that I have chapter 66-67 fresh in my memory).

Ultimately, she thinks the sacrifice is worth it because just like Eren, she views the Titans as the core issue of the perpetuated conflict.

Adding in the context of the Uprising arc, this is informed by the events in the cave because her father wanted to use her, so it makes sense from her character perspective to be so understanding of wanting to erase the Titans, regardless of cost.

I actually don't mind any of this because it's tied to her character perspective.

But all of this still could've worked perfectly fine without the pregnancy and would've been a lot stronger thematically.

I thought it was unnecessary before because of the way the plot ended up working out, but now even more so because the reason why she never spoke up about it was because she agreed with Eren based on her own experiences.

And that's all the story needed to be. It's awful morally, but at least you understand it from her perspective and it leans on what came before, so that aspect is at least better than I remember it being.

I really hate and really love this series at the same time because I got closure for a bit of confusion that's been bothering me for a long time, but it made the flaw that comes with it worse.

There is a logic to it, but it's ruined by a single plot point and having Historia's best moments so fresh in my mind next to these later chapters (and the final chapter) pisses me off because there clearly did actually go planning into this.

It's better, but also worse than I remember.

Also, my self from three years ago and later was in *full* defense mode. I downplayed the morality of the situation so much because I was scared the story would turn out to be much worse than I thought it was at the time (thus making it a waste of 10 years of time investment).

But it's okay. The story clearly really cares for Eren and wanted him to be a tragic victim of circumstance just as much as someone who destroyed 80% of the world.

His friends mourn him as a friend who tragically died.

But even then, I think the story never says what he did was okay. It's a somber chapter trying to look to the future despite the bleak fallout of his actions and radicalism being alive and well on Paradis.

When looking into interviews, I saw one where Isayama said something along the lines of Eren being the "worst of the worst", so he clearly didn't aim to actually excuse Eren and even with all of the sentimentalism and mourning from the characters, I never got the sense he did.

I somewhat remember this, but apparently he also wasn't happy with how the final chapter turned out, citing skill as a limit, and now, a few years later, it's really obvious to me this series probably should've had a couple more chapters to flesh out all of these complicated sentiments it wanted to explore in this final chapter alone.

I remember liking the anime additions a bunch, which I recall to also be made under Isayama's supervision (correct me if I'm wrong on all of this).

However, I think I won't go look at the anime version just yet and I'll just gradually work my through to everything instead of skipping around as I have a few times now.

About half-way through my revisit now, I'm still surprised I basically binged season 1 and 2 in a few days. Season 3 has taken longer because I've been busy and been wanting to do other stuff as well.
