Earth Man - Adam Strange x Reader

Kem had told you about Seg’s new ‘friend’. He was apparently Strange, that was the word he used, you thought. And to top it all off, he was not Kryptonian, You had never met anyone that did not come from your home planet, and you were excited to say the least.

“Can you please calm down (N/N)?” Seg sighed, already used to your bubbly nature, but aware that it would draw attention.

“I’m sorry, I’ve just never met an alien before.” You whispered apologetically, looking around, making sure you didn’t blow the time traveller's cover. It felt like hours following Seg, he was far too slow and cautious, checking every corner thoroughly on your way to the bar.

“Is it ugly?” You asked, having associated that description with foreign creatures. Krypton was not supposed to believe in other life forms, but you, like Seg and his grandfather, did.

“Yes.” He absentmindedly answered, not telling the entire truth. The man found the other off putting, all he spoke about was the end of his world.

The El heir opened the bar door, allowing you to enter first, scoping out behind the both of you before also entering. There wasn’t a mass of customers in the bar, they weren’t your priority anyway. To you, it felt like you were going on a fieldtrip in your own district.

You didn’t stop, you walked straight towards where Kem stood, almost hitting your knees on the bar. That definitely would have hurt. “Where is it?”

Kem seemed unbothered, he was scrubbing the inside of a jug with a bored expression. How was he not freaking out?

“He’s in the back.” The bar tender was speaking directly to Seg, although he didn’t ignore the glimmer in your eyes. No more words were exchanged, you and Seg headed for the private part of the bar.

“Finally, you’re back!” It’s, or his as what Kem gendered him to be, exclaimed. There was an unusual accent slipping off his tongue, one that you had most definitely hadn’t thought existed.

And then you saw the alien. He looked Kryptonian, aside from the dressing of his voice and the peculiar clothes he wore. There was even a funny thing on his head.

“You said he was ugly.” His appearance surprised you, you may have even found him attractive if he wasn’t a lifeform from elsewhere.

“I wasn’t really listening to you.” Shrugged Seg. smirking at your confusion. The Earth man glanced between the pair of you, focusing mostly on you. You guessed it was because he didn’t know you.

“I’d take offense if we weren’t in such a rush.” Spoke the alien once more, smiling briefly at you. It made a stutter whirl in your stomach. Is that what humans could do, pull at your guts with no contact?

“Oh yeah, the whole save the world stuff.” Seg muttered. He took a hold of your arm, pulling you closer to the newcomer. “This is Adam, Adam this is (Y/N).”

“Hi.” Adam extended his hand, for what reason you did not know. You just looked at it with a tilt of your head.

“She’s the tech genius I told you about. She can get us wherever you need us to go.” The praise gave you, even if it was not completely direct, made you feel proud. It was true, you were.

“Great. So we can get started?” There was so much light and hope in his eyes, something that contrasted with the worry in his brow hairs and the timid-ness of his jaw

“Hold your blaster there Earth man. If you want my help, you’re going to have to explain this whole thing. Don’t leave out any details.” You were sure you’d grow fond of him.

The entire ride had been successful. Brainiac had been stopped, but at what cost? Seg was gone, you had no one. A hand nudged your shoulder, the owner obviously aware of how fragile you currently were.

“Are you going to be okay, here I mean?” It was Adam. You had almost lost Seg by defending the Earth man, but to this second you did not regret it at all. Even if you had lost Seg in the end.

“He was my friend. The best one I had.” For some strange reason, you felt like Adam could understand you, no matter what you were saying.

“That wasn’t an answer.” He wanted you to be honest. Honesty wasn’t your best feature as a hacker.

“I will be, in time.” You weren’t sure how you would recover from losing a friend, especially the one that had drifted into the phantom zone.

“Come with me.” He held his hand out, and you gratefully took it.

“It would be interesting to see where an alien lives...”

A/N ; I'm aware this is a bit different from the show. I just wanted to write this for some reason.
