Kuruka Station: Atlus’ Arcade Trading Card Game System

Earlier this year I was browsing the list of Atlus games on Wikipedia and found that Atlus had made a K-on game. Being a huge fan of both Atlus and K-on I needed to know more. I typed the name of the game into Google and only got results for what turned out to be an unrelated PSP/PS3 game. I wrongly assumed that this was the game and I purchased it a little while later. Well after getting it I found no evidence of Atlus involvement in this game. I did some more research and discovered that the game I was searching for was an arcade game developed by Atlus for the Kuruka Station system.

 What’s the Kuruka System I asked myself and typed it into to Google and of course there were no results. I then typed it in Japanese instead and I got quite a few more results. My research begins. 

The Kuruka System is an arcade system developed by Atlus that was in operation from 2006 to 2014 that used cards with scannable barcodes. Two styles of cabinet were produced for this. A red with one set of three buttons made in 2006 and a blue one made in 2008 with two sets of three buttons. 

All of the games released for this system were licensed anime games with the exception of one which was a railway simulation game. Something that some of you may have already noticed from the above pictures is that these games use CRTs meaning Atlus, and after the 2013 buyout, Sega was releasing CRT arcade games as late as 2014. From the videos I watched of gameplay on Youtube and Nico Nico these games all function pretty similarly. You first have the option to purchase some cards, you scan one to three cards, and then you play some kind of game, usually a rhythm game with songs from the license. 

The cards that came from the machines were standard trading card sizes with some having holofoil variants. Special promo cards were produced for some of the games that were given away as prizes for tournaments. I found that some of these are quite rare and sellers are expecting as much as $800 for them on auction sites. So if you have another $800 laying around after buying a complete copy of Jack Bros here is another ridiculously rare Atlus collectible for you to get. I ordered some of the K-on cards during this search which should be arriving early next month. When they arrive I will be sure to take some pictures of the front and back of the cards and post them on here as I could not find any high quality pictures of the backs of the cards; which may have that amazing Atlus logo on them.

Nahh, what i meant slow was only for posting my arts related with frans and my au, i do active but not in here, i dont want my profile being mixed with bunch of my reblog so yeah, im not death, im actually still active from my main blog.

I do post arts but mostly come from my selfship to another corner, even thats as if i had time to draw.. so even you see me active, doesn't mean i have my most free time.

And honestly i dont want to feel strict as well because of this 😅 theres a time where i can freely draw them again (frans and au stuff), but now, you can say i currently lose the hype bcs of too many concept that i've been wanting to draw, yet i dont have much time as well except for messy sketch that makes me on mood
