There was a band that played at a small town event I went to when I was seventeen and they played 90% CCR covers and they did not do so in the most awesome way. Let me be honest with you it was not good. Anyway every time I hear CCR I think of them and their bestowed derisive nickname which I’m not telling you. It’s not one of my biggest fears in life, but one of my mild fears is that I’ll meet someone someday and become real good friends with them, and one day years down the line we’ll be hanging out and CCR will play wherever we are like on the radio or whatever. And compulsively, I won’t be able to stop myself from talking about the bad CCR cover band I saw at a drab outdoor party in a small and geriatric town in the height of my seventeen year old grief. And my friend will look at me with the eyes of someone whose hopes and dreams have been shattered and say, “that was me. I was in that band.” What the fuck would I even do? How has the lore of your characters and world changed over time? Are there any changes that were particularly large, or did you tend to build onto it gradually?

Also, which character of yours do you have the most fun drawing?

KVROII!! THIS IS A REALLY GOOD ASK THANK YOU! It's definitely changed and matured over time- I'd say that most of the changes have been gradual and built upon? Rather than have big things I needed to change once I found something that worked better, I tended to be the sort who would just have big blanks where puzzle pieces were missing, that one day something would click, fill that blank, and suddenly make way more sense. (For example, I knew there was ~some lab~ that Julian worked at and that Jawz had run ins with for years before I found out the name- it didn't have a placeholder until that point, but I was really happy when I learned it was called Spectrum!) So less 'oh suddenly I had a better idea and have to change Everything' and more 'oh, I just got some details and the very simple understanding I had of X has now become way more nuanced, that makes SENSE'?

Likewise, some of the changes are both my understanding growing, but also characters or events growing, too- Julian was and still is a bastard, but he's had a chance to show other facets of himself, too- facets that were always there, but obscured through the prevailing circumstances around him. (It's harder to see someone's soft side when they didn't really have any strong friendships at the time to show that softer side through, you know?)

ALSO GOSH THAT'S HARD, it definitely varies, but I love drawing Julian, love coloring Lane (his hair is so fun for me), and when I'm in an animal mood, I often default towards Kaerith or Zeon- but I think I have most fun when I have a specific idea for a thing I want to get down and can do that!

(From the beginning: Mae Chouko, Keiko Arlot, Kaio Asgell, Miya Solstice, Shay Turner, Rega Asgell, and Aichi Arlot).

I was going to do this in the tags and then wondered how I can get a formatting that makes sense to me, so preemptively, I'm sorry your follower's mutual put that in the reblogs.

Most of my characters are not from their final novels. A few are (Seth and Ser from The Line Madder were created for it, and Sol, Nieva, and Sidus were created for Regards, for example). But most of them are from a few different projects:

2010-2013 short stories and comics - A collection of short stories that were usually fantasy action stories or stories focused around finding a certain item to save a character. From one wave of these comes Oriel, Freya, Tala, and later Eleida (The Line Madder + The Madder Queen), as well as Emma Angel and Miss Flame who are now in @kvroii's manga Of Spark and Cats. Then came the comics, which brought Sedina and Lucira (A Chained Sunrise). Finally, another wave of short stories brought some of the cast of The Curse of Rhiannon (Rhiannon, Avdotya, Stefilia, Gin) and A Chained Sunrise (Sara/Rykte, Aisling).

2013 novella - A science fiction/fantasy story about people who have wings and magic powers from being altered in a laboratory. Unlike the story that later came from it, this was about one of the winged people and her friends coming together to defeat the man who experimented on them, all while the protagonist was trying to date his son and avoid being captured by his daughter. Responsible for many of the characters in Rainbow (Mae, Kaio, Rega, Nika, Keiko, Gardenia, Skyna, and also Feris, which @kvroii created for the story!). Shiola from A Chained Sunrise also came from this one.

2014-16 hand-drawn OEL manga - Initially an adaptation of the 2013 novella that spun out of control into a fantasy story about four seasonal spirits having to pool their powers together to defeat the new queen of the land (formerly a bestie) and save the home of their past incarnations from fated magical destruction. Provided more of Rainbow's characters (Miya, Risa, Shay, Harrison, Nolan, and Tornin) especially in the main plots. An early side-plot about the spring spirit being captured by a vampire in strife against the human side of his family brought together the ingredients for Regards to happen years later (with characters Adrienne and Kenneth appearing, and roles set up for Mirdri and Cara to later fill). Adrienne had a larger role overall, and the vampire conflict subplot was probably the least important to her story at the time, because her story focused around her separation from her family and trying to find her brother, which is where Otto comes in, also. Candyss was also in this as a minor character, but didn't show up in the vampire plot. Characters from this story are also in The Line Madder (Hibou, Cloude, Dalila).

2015-16 short stories - A few short stories I wrote for local competitions in the mid-2010s. One revolved around a girl who decided to help a boy after he was in peril despite that he broke her heart and the people who were there for her all along, another was from his perspective during the perilous incident, and the third was about a struggling lad being experimented on by his 'psy-something-ist' and choosing to live forever with the companion the doctor installed in his mind. One of these things is not like the other. These combined a few months later into the premise of Visions, with the first story creating Hecate/Cynthia Ortiz, Lucifer/Axel Peyton, Marcail/Magnolia, and Orion/Cedar, the second story revolving around Axel, and the third creating Steven Griswood, Mary, Zynen, and Shadow/Dr. Beck Trainor.

And then the novel-writing era started for me, and from there, newly created characters have been made for the story they appeared in. There are a few exceptions (Lukas bounced around between different novel attempts before joining The Line Madder), but nothing really with fully fleshed out stories like before.
