all right, i want to see you introduce a bunch of *your* favorite toku characters to your non-toku-viewing audience!
Although the ask didn’t specify cute toku characters, this question was intended to be a reciprocation of my prior ask and I will answer it in that way. Also, in no particular order.
Tumblr media
Tsukasa Myoujin/Patren 3gou from Lupinranger vs. Patoranger
Ironically, she wasn’t the first character I got attached to in LuPat, however, I think she might be my favorite cutie from that show now. She presents a tough and serious exterior, however her secret weakness is stuffed animals! She finds them so cute, especially her favorite, Porktato! She’s the one to keep the other Patorangers in line, when Keiichiro is being too hotheaded and Sakuya is being too goofy, and especially when Noel is on his bullshit again.
Tumblr media
Umika Hayami/Lupin Yellow from Lupinranger vs. Patoranger
She was the first character I really liked from even before the show started. She’s the opposite of Tsukasa, she has a cute and cheery exterior but is serious inside. The Lupinrangers are each trying to get back someone important to them who was lost. She gets along really well with Tsukasa, who she doesn’t know is a Patoranger. She also has an older brother/younger sister thing going on with Kairi.
Tumblr media
Koume Kodou/”Umeko”/DekaPink and Marika Reimon/”Jasmine”/DekaYellow from Dekaranger
Their dynamic is played more straight than the LuPat example, with Umeko being the cutesy one and Jasmine being the more serious one. Umeko likes to spend time in the bath with her rubber ducks, and Jasmine is an ESPer. If she touches things people have touched, places people have been, or people themselves, she can get information about them. That’s why she wears gloves, to control her powers.
Tumblr media
Poppy Pipopapo from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid
She is the main character of the game DoReMiFa Beat, a rhythm game, and a Bugster. When she’s in civilian form, her name is Asuna Karino and she works at the Ministry of Health. Either way, she supports the Kamen Riders. She is cute, cheerful, wears lots of bright colors, and she has a cute verbal tic as well!
Tumblr media
Commander Aya Odagiri from Jetman
She might be more fearsome than the worst Vyram! Aya Odagiri is the commander of Jetman. Due to an accident, most of the group is made up of untrained civilians, so she has to get them up to speed. She is very intimidating, but cares about her group. She doesn’t fight, but she can use a mech as the above gif illustrates. She’s great!
Tumblr media
Akemi Takeda from Kyoudai Ken Bycrosser
She runs the Catswork Company, which is basically her doing odd jobs. She comes across the Bycrossers because their mother hired her to find them. They quickly become friends, although they like to tease each other playfully. I enjoy their interactions quite a lot.
Swan Shiratori from Dekaranger
She is one of the support personnel of SPD, she is played by Mako Ishino who seemingly doesn’t age. Swan is an ace with an abacus, doing mathematical calculations at warp speed. She is very good friends with the boss of Earth’s SPD, Doggie Kruger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tsukuyomi from Kamen Rider Zi-O
She is a time traveler from the year 2068 along with Geiz who is trying to stop the rise of Oma Zi-O. Unfortunately, they start to get attached to Sougo, who becomes Oma Zi-O, and can’t bring themselves to just kill him, although they get second thoughts at various times throughout the series. She is the first one to warm up to Sougo and think he can’t be that bad. She hasn’t done that much in the show sadly, although the episode that just aired apparently has something to do with her, although it hasn’t come out on Over-Time yet! Shieri Ohata is just so cute and her hair is perfect. Tsukuyomi’s style is great too (although she typically wears white, this is from one of the .5 episodes.)
Tumblr media
Mari Sonoda from Kamen Rider Faiz
Her father gives her a mysterious belt, which she can’t use. However, she comes across a man named Takumi Inui. They don’t quite get along at first, but when they get into trouble, it turns out he can use the belt, and it turns out to be the Faiz belt. I like her interactions with Takumi, she makes fun of him for being a nekojita. She is looking for her father, and her dream is to be a hairstylist. There is just something about her face that appeals to me, it’s cute roundness, and I also like her as a character.
Yui Kanzaki from Kamen Rider Ryuki
Yui Kanzaki is looking for her brother, Shiro, who people say died in America before the show started. However, Shiro appears to people, giving them Kamen Rider decks. He created the Kamen Rider decks for the purposes of the Rider War, in which Kamen Riders battle in the Mirror World. The last man standing gets a wish. She opposes Shiro when she finds out about the Rider War, although Shiro says he’s doing everything for her. She initially appears with Geiz Ren, and her aunt owns the tea shop she and eventually Shinji work at. I like her style and face and although she doesn’t smile much, when she does it’s really cute!
Tumblr media
Kaoru Okoshiba/Lady Battle Cop from Lady Battle Cop
I had to include one from the movies! She is a tennis player who is killed along with her fiance in a terrorist raid on the lab where her fiance works at, however her fiance has a trick up his sleeve. He turns Kaoru into the titular Lady Battle Cop, who aims to take down the organization who killed her originally. The movie is basically a riff on Robocop, although Robocop was originally inspired by tokusatsu, so it’s things coming full circle. She doesn’t get to spend much time being cute, because she has business to take care of, but she is cute!
Tumblr media
Megumi Misaki/Blue Dolphin from Liveman
I knew I forgot one! Megumi is a student at Academia Island. She and four others were meant to be part of a space exploration group. However, three other students at the school turned traitor and the leader killed two of them. Liveman is a very serious show, but it has its moments of cuteness and lightheartedness! I prefer her longer haircut later in the series, but either way, she’s very cute and I love her signature blue outfit! She can even play a keytar.
Tumblr media
Ui Tatsui from Ryusoulger
Another one I forgot! I kept thinking about how there was only one female ranger in Ryusoulger, but I overlooked Ui! She is a Youtuber who accidentally comes across the Ryusoulgers. Koh says he has to use the hammer of forgetting on her but thankfully doesn’t. She and the Ryusoulgers quickly become friends! I really like her style, she is very cute, and she also has a very pretty face!

I am curious, you seem to like Kamen Rider, are you also a fan of any other tokusatsu shows?
I do like Kamen Rider. I also like other toku–I’m generally a fan of older tokusatsu in general, with Choujinki Metalder and Japanese Spiderman being recent favorites of mine. They’re a huge blast to watch with mates, and the characters are always so fun to see in action.I’ve currently got Kaiketsu Zubat, Space Sheriff Gavan, Robot Detective K, and Kyoudai Ken Bycrosser on my watchlist, and I’m having fun going through those.
I’m not exactly a “things were better in the 80s!!!!” hipster, though, modern toku is extremely fun as well.We finished up Yoshihiko and the Demon King not too long ago, and that was a hilarious romp. GARO is a wonderful franchise, even if it keeps alternating hard between utterly amazing and utterly terrible. Thunderbolt Fantasy quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite shows of all time.I also still manage to keep up with newer seasons of Kamen Rider, even when some of them manage to be awful awful awful awful seriously Kamen Rider Ghost was so awful like aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

What are some notable tokusatsu shows that aren't part of a franchise (like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Metal Hero, or Ultraman)? Shows like Kyoudai Ken Bycrosser? It's interesting to see different takes on the formula with shows not bound by series conventions.
It’s cool that you mentioned Bycrosser because the same team that worked on that did another show the year before called Nebula Mask Machine Man.
Tumblr media
Machine Man is an alien from another solar system who has come to Earth as part of a research project visiting all of the planets orbiting Sol.  He disguises himself as a mild mannered human named Nick and gets involved with a danger prone newspaper photographer.  He decides to stay on Earth after encountering an evil organization called Tentacle lead by the wicked Professor K who seems motivated by a hatred of children.
The show draws heavy inspiration from Superman, with Nick even donning a pair of glasses to hide his identity and acting like a klutz to deflect suspicion.  Well, that is if Superman had a talking baseball robot as a sidekick and a transforming, multi-purpose vehicle.
Tumblr media
It’s a cool mixture of American Superheroics and the tropes of Japanese tokusatsu.
A more recent example is 1996′s Choukou Senshi Changerion.
Tumblr media
This was something of an experimental series for Toei being produced outside of their then running Super Sentai and Metal Hero series as a way to test producing a show entirely shot on video when their others were using 16mm film stock.
The basic plot involves inter-dimensional invaders known as the DarkZide attempting to preserve themselves with stolen human life energy.  To fight this threat, a scientist has come up with a suit that can battle the invaders.  However, thanks to an accident, the suit ends up bound to the body of a slacker Private Detective who is about the world’s worst choice for a hero.
Tumblr media
It’s a fun show but sadly, it never really caught on and had it’s planned 52 episode run truncated to 39.
There are some other great shows I can mention but won’t go into the same detail on like 1975′s Akumaizer 3 about 3 demons fighting their fellows to protect humanity.
Tumblr media
Also from 1975 is Space Ironmen Kyodain!  This one features two robot heroes who can transform into vehicles and programmed with the personalities of a pair of kidnapped brothers fighting an evil space Empire bent on the conquest of Earth.
Tumblr media
Going further afield in the 1970s you find Go Nagai’s pair of tokusatsu oddities; Star of Pro-Wrestling Azteckaiser and Battle Hawk.
The first series premiered in 1976 and is about an evil organization trying to take over the world of Japanese Pro-Wrestling with monstrous wrestlers while being opposed by the heroic Azteckaiser.
Tumblr media
This one merges traditional tokusatsu action with animation when the wrestling matches verge into the ridiculous and impossible to replicate in live action.
Tumblr media
The second was a bit jankier with three grandchildren of a martial artist using magical tomahawk powers granted to him by Native Americans to battle and evil gang of Assassins.
Tumblr media
Oh and then there’s Toho’s 1976 series Enban Senso Bankid though this one might have been their attempt to create a team hero show much like 1975′s Himisu Sentai Goranger.
Tumblr media
There are so many of these non-franchise Tokusatsu shows, especially in the weird, wild creative explosion that was the 1970s.  I’ve said it before but it bears repeating, the 70s were the boom time for TV Tokusatsu and everyone tried their hands at it.  This doesn’t even scratch the surface of what was out there and either trying to do its own thing or copying the formula created by another company in an attempt to cash in on a trend.
Thanks for the Question!
