“I refuse.”
Thinking back, your frown presses deeper upon your face because why the hell would Luffy refuse?
What’s wrong with that nincompoop? He’s stomped around for years telling anyone with ears that you two are married. After all this time, the moment you were ready to make this thing offical, he goes ahead and refuses.
You continue to lean against the alley wall, sulking, hiding away from the world.
With any hope, the ground will open you up and swallow you whole. You feel so utterly embarrassed and rejected by the one person who you thought would never.
“Mrs. Monkey.” A teasing gravely voice calls out. Looking up you see Ace crouching on the roof looking down at you.
“Ace!” You yell out, opening your arms wide as he leaps down and pulls you into a tight embrace.
“Now why are you brooding in some back alley huh?” He questions, pulling you back to see your fallen face.
“Uh
 it’s nothing.” You sputter, quickly trying to regain your composure.
“Please kid, you can never hide yourself with me. After all I am your brother-in-law.” He teases with a jab to your ribs, causing you to giggle involuntarily. You kick at the ground sheepishly, unwilling to expose your silly thoughts. “Fine fine - don’t tell me then.” He says, throwing his arm around your shoulders and guiding you back to the streets. “So I ran into Sabo recently and he told me something interesting.”
“Hm, pray tell, what is this ‘interesting’ thing?” You can’t resist smirking back. You always loved your dynamic with Ace. As if you two shared a secret that no one else knows.
Ace looks around as if checking for any unwanted listeners. “He told me you are returning feelings for Luffy.” Your face turns red at the accurate accusation. “And I said ‘my little tsundere? There’s no way!’ And so here I am. I had to see for myself.” Your face burns in embarrassment.
“I-I’m not a tsundere.” You huff, turning your nose up at the suggestion.
But Aces head leans back with a hearty laugh. “So you deny being a tsundere but you don’t deny having feelings for Luffy
 interesting.” He grins back at you making you feel like you’ve been caught red-handed.
“So what? Anyone would be.” You mutter making Aces brows turn up.
“You know we are talking about Luffy, right? My idiot younger brother?” You nod making his face scrunch up.
“So
 how long are we going to dance around the fact you were moping around?” You cringe at the question, feeling utterly humiliated.
“I-“ Taking a deep breath you finally admit the truth. “I
 want everyone to know
 I want to make it official - but Luffy
 he doesn’t want too.” Your face looks crest fallen, as if silently swallowing back the tears whelming beneath.
“That moron.” Ace grumbles, pulling you into his side more. “Don’t worry Kid, I’ll talk to him- speaking of the devil.” Luffy’s boisterous laugh echos through the crowd.
“Aceeee! What the heck are you doin here?!” Luffy cackles, throwing his stretchy arms though the crowd, grabbing a hold of Ace and launching himself in for an embrace. “It’s so good to see you!” He laughs continuously.
“Oi Luffy, come here a second. We need to have a little talk.” Ace throws his hulking arm around Luffy’s neck as he chokes on his rough hold.
You watch as Ace cups a hand to Luffy’s ear, whispering whilst Luffy continues to flail like the drama queen he is; until Luffy turns limp.
“Ohhhhh! Why did no one tell me this?! Thanks Ace!” Luffy pulls away from his older brother, grabbing your hand and begins to drag you to city hall.
“You two crazy kids have fun!” Ace yells, waving at you both.
“L-Luffy, where are you taking me?”
“We’re going to sign those marriage certificates you wanted.” He says in a matter-of-fact tone.
“What made you change your mind?” You mumbled.
“Ace told me i just have to sign a piece of paper then I get to kiss you.” He replies, continuing to drag you along.
You begin to burst into laughter.
Because of course.
Your husband will do it all for a kiss.

the reliance of college students on gen ai thing is particularly crazy to me as a college writing instructor whos also about to finish an educational psychology certificate because like one huge thing ive learned in my classes is that the american college system is pretty dogshit at teaching students when it comes both to content mastery and also preparing them for the workforce. like these kids are graduating college and going into jobs that they have their degrees in and dont know how to thrive in the workforce and Also dont really know much about the thing they got their degree in. and theres a lot of reasons for that that i could go over in depth but i'll spare yall
BUT the thing that college is like the most decent at is changing the way people think about knowledge itself. further education (high school to undergrad to graduate school) is a huge factor in what develops your epistemological beliefs (epistemology being the nature and theories of knowledge). like your epistemology does naturally change as you get older, but with further education you learn that knowledge itself is complex, ever changing, and interrelated, meaning you inherently trust "facts" less and actually perform critical thinking when presented with new information
but,,,,,, with that new study microsoft did on generative ai showing that usage of gen ai in the workplace can lead to the degradation of independent problem solving skills and that people who trust gen ai actively use less critical thinking to do tasks,,, and that giving yourself fewer opportunities for critical thinking degrades your ability to think critically at all even when it comes to important tasks,,,
like. all these students are using gen ai and sometimes their classes are actively encouraging them to use gen ai and i fear were losing like the one big thing american undergrad is good for bc lets be real its pretty dogshit at everything else

i know this au is mostly a stan&ford focused au, but do you think Watchdog has united a Ford or Stan with a Dipper and Mabel (or perhaps assisted someone else in the PPS with doing so) before he could find a Stan or Ford suitable for them? Alternatively, have there been times where a Dipper and/or Mabel have attached *themselves* to a Stan waiting for relocation and became a unit without intentions to unite them from the PPS? (I think the idea that Watchdog has turned around for 5 minutes to sort some notes only to come back and find the new Stanley having adopted some niblings very funny. 'My kids now' type deal.)
Both cases have absolutely happened. Usually because the parents are deemed unfit to care for the niblings or are an active danger to them.
So, when a team is sent out to intervene and the niblings are brought into headquarters, they often proceed to latch onto either a Stan or Ford (or even both). It could be a member of the team that came to get them or their case worker. Either way, the Stan and/or Ford are also prone to getting attached to the niblings.
One particular incident was a (mostly) reformed Evil Stan from dimension 13"7G (where everyone has a tail due to evolving differently) and the more mellow Ford from dimension L/941 he had been paired with upon joining the PPS. The mellow Ford was a case worker due to his calm and compassionate demeanor, taking on the case of a Dipper and Mabel from dimension 27-D who needed a more delicate touch due to being neglected by their parents.
The reformed Evil Stan fell in love with them the moment he met them, Mabel warning up to him when he brought her a knitting kit. Dipper was quick to follow when Stan gave him a personalized journal that he had special-ordered along with a magic ink pen that never ran out of ink. Stan gave them tours of headquarters, sleeping in their room so they felt safer and so they could wake him if they needed anything.
Behind the scenes, the Ford saw the attachment forming and started the arduous process of getting the niblings assigned to them for permanent housing. They'd be staying in Ford's dimension since his Stan was dead and he had no Shermie so, therefore, no niblings of his own. Stan was stunned when Ford eventually brought the paperwork to Stan to sign, hesitating due to his past as Bill's brainwashed attack dog.
Ford assured him that he is perfect for the role and that Ford wants to take them in too, Stan wouldn't be raising them on his own. Stan agreed and signed off on the relocation, the two presenting the official certificate to the niblings later that week, the kids bursting into tears and initiating a group hug.
