I love this so much. I was always a fan of I Dream Of Jeannie for the same reason. I must have some harem pants to try on when going out.
Watch this space.

DOWNTON ABBEY HEADCANON
In 1948, Edith interviews a potential new journalist for her magazine; she is young, but capable and ambitious. "I have always wanted to become a journalist, ever since I was a little girl." she says; she has dark red hair "My parents have always encouraged me, especially my mother; se said writing and typing was in our destiny."
The young woman is hired. "Welcome to The Sketch, miss Harding." Edith says, and her new journalist beams.
"Thank you, my lady. But please, call me Sybil."
Hello, I'm Sybil. Sybil Harding.

As Downton Abbey sorta suggested that ghosts are real in their universe because of that Ouija episode in season 3, that house must have hella ghosts. I mean, I was thinking about that TV show Ghosts on CBS that was originally British; they all died in some sort of tragic way that left them with unfinished business on Earth and that’s why they haven’t transitioned into the afterlife, and that lead me to think just how many ghosts Downton canonically has (that are named at least). I think we’ve got 4 main ghosts in the house:
Kemal Pamuk
William Mason
Lavinia Swire
Sybil Crawley
This excludes Violet Crawley and their dog Isis because they lived full lives and died peacefully. Matthew Crawley MAYBE counts because of his tragic death, but because he died on the road back to Downton I don’t know if he has the ability to haunt the premises. Also, I don’t know if any of the WWI soldiers who stayed there ended up dying from their injuries, but it is a possibility some of them could be ghosts too.
@firelordgrantham thought this thought experiment might be interesting to ya

Book Review: The Official Downton Abbey Christmas Cookbook/ Oats in the North, Wheat from the South by Regula Ysewijn
Although my interest has always been political history, with writing this blog social history has pretty much taken centre stage. My research has taken me into various aspects such as fashion, entertainment, mass media and even food all of which gave me an insight into how people in the past lived.
Food particularly has held an interest for me. I love to cook and eat and have always taken an…

Thomas, Sybil & Matthew would've been such a powerful and chaotic friendship. Everyone's reaction to seeing the three of them together the first time. Matthew and Sybil defending Thomas. The three of them sitting down and chatting. Matthew and Sybil constantly pulling Thomas away from work or saying they need Thomas for something. All of them talking about their love lives after Thomas opens up to them. The angst of Thomas being the last one standing.

Rewatching the first ep of downton abbey before I start the final season and there was soooo much that I missed. The little seeds planets so early on between Anna and Mr. Bates. The great introduction to literally every person but specifically everyone upstairs and also a great introduction into all of the important relationships and the main plots.
Like I’m sure that none of this is new information but it’s just all stuff that I spotted just like half way through the episode.

Sitting here trying to remember if Edith ever mentioned Sybil after season three, outside of her wedding day speech to Mary, or if it was just Cora and Mary going "Oh dearest Sybil, we evoke your memory for plot purposes!"
...unfortunately I haven't time to rewatch the whole thing...

Rewatched Ep 1x06, and I just noticed Isobel at this moment. She's looking RIGHT at Matthew. You can just hear her thinking, "What is he doing????" He's so tenderly helped Sybil up, and they had that brief second where Sybil was making moon eyes at Matthew.
But back to Isobel: she knows her son well. She's probably had some inkling of Matthew's feelings for Mary (he's not exactly good at hiding them) and here .... idk, she's possibly wondering what his intentions are towards Sybil, whether his affections have been transferred to her instead.
There's also the brief 3 seconds when she directs her knowing gaze at Mary, but that's much, much more obvious. She's seen Mary's jealousy. Isobel just .... picks up on things, knows what's going on. She's incredibly perceptive.
I adore her to bits. One of my absolute favourite characters in the series. I wish I could drop in at Crawley House for a chat with her when I'm feeling down.
