Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: The book that made me love reading again

I still remember the moment my friend recommended this book to me; I just added this to my shelf and COMPLETELY IGNORED IT FOR 4 YEARS!!! ONLY TO DEEPLY REGRET IT BECAUSE ITS SOOOO GOOOOOD!

The beginning of the book really triggered the question mark above my head because I didn't know what to expect. It's weird but I slowly got intrigued with how the female lead was introduced.

Karou was raised in a very interesting home and lived with interesting creatures for as long as she remembers, she lived normally outside, and she lived like any other student her age. She has many questions about everything which made me very curious too especially with how protective Brimstone, and her family is to her.

Brimstone was like the head of their unusual family, Karou runs errand for him but she doesn't get to ask a lot of questions about it. I want to tell you guys a lot of details about this book but I sweaaar it's 10x better if you have a first hand experience on reading each and every page of the book.

Every step that she took just to uncover her answers about her identity caused a lot of complications and conflict which turned her world upside down. She discovered something that she shouldn't get her hands on yet but everything just changed in just a snap.

Connections were formed, memories were confused, and her life was like a big puzzle to her. The book gave away the feeling where you keep on longing for something that you can't even named yet you really feel it deep within your heart, this is how I feel as she slowly finds a way to know her purpose.

Akiva the male lead made me love and hate him at the same time, he was introduced strongly, mysterious, and feels like someone who might kill for the love of his life *wink* *wink*

I still can't get over this book and it's been years. I just want to talk about this book to someone because the first time I finished the series made me a little crazy with how the people around me haven't read this yet.

This book made me so attached to the characters and the trope which really progressed from the first book until the last book of the series. I also loved how Laini Taylor had Karou's best friend beside her supporting and assisting Karou even though it's mind blowing to believe every single thing that's happening in their universe.

All in all I love this book and I will forever recommend this book whenever I have the chance so I rate this 5/5. Everything about the plot, trope, characters, world building, magic system, and how it revolves around a modern world just scratches something inside my brain.

A pair of illustrations done a little while ago for the Lumen Éditions release of Strange the Dreamer. Written by New York Times bestselling author Laini Taylor, Strange the Dreamer is an epic fantasy about a young librarian, a mythic lost city, and the half-human children of murdered gods. While ultimately the illustrations were used for promotional material rather than the cover artwork, it was still a joy to be a part of the French edition release. The audiobook was my soundtrack while painting Lazlo and Sarai, and I was mesmerised by the dark beauty of their world!

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around. Since he was a boy, Lazlo Strange has dreamed of the mythical city of Weep. A fortuitous opportunity allows Lazlo to join the hero Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors on their journey to search for the lost city. The answers Lazlo seeks await in Weep, but so do many more mysteries - including an unexpected bond with the blue-skinned goddess who visits Lazlo's dreams.

It was soo soothing working on this painting 😌 Sarai is one of my all time favourite characters and I loove painting blue skin for some reason 😄 This scene is not 100% faithful to the books as she didn't actually sleep on the balcony but you know, I was just envisioning her in that beautiful light.
