I know I'm betraying my childhood by saying this but I think that today Sunday May 12th 2024 I built a cheeseburger better than Webers. This is a major checkmark on my bucket list folks. Huge!

"CLERK HELD AT GUN POINT SEES FOUR DRAG OUT SAFE," Toronto Star. September 17, 1943. Page 8. --- Fifty Beer Ration Books and $500 Missing at Jackson's Point ---- SAFE RECOVERED --- Jackson's Point, Sept. 17 - Threatened at gun point, a brewers warehouse clerk here was forced to stand by while four men loaded a safe and contents into the rear of a large sedan early today, police reported. It is believed by police that a gasoline pump of C. W. Bodley's store at Pefferlaw was broken into by the same thieves later this morning.
"I was in bed and was awakened by something scraping outside." said Thomas Savage, warehouse employee who, lives at the rear of the store. "When I rushed out into the store, a man covered me saying. 'If you come in here I'll shoot you'." I went back into the bedroom and watched them load the 700-pound safe into the trunk of a large car and drive off. There were four men in the gang and they had the motor running all the time."
The opened sate was recovered by County Constable W. R. Hill this morning about a mile and one-half west of Sutton, North Gwillimbury township. The door had been pried open and $500 in cash and cheques, as well as 50 beer ration books, were reported taken.
A pinch-bar, taken from the C.N.R. tool shed at Pefferlaw, was used to jimmy the cafe, police believed.
A quantity of gasoline was taken from Bodley's general store at Pefferlaw during the night. "We are certain the same gang who stole the safe took the gasoline," Constable Hill said. "The same tire marks were found in front of the store as those at the brewer's warehouse."

Genius at work
Glenn Gould rare footage. Videotape of the famous pianist at his private retreat, a cottage on the shore of Lake Simcoe north of Toronto, 1959. https://billmichelmore.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/p84cdi.mp4 I tend to follow a very nocturnal sort of existence mainly because I don’t much care for sunlight. Bright colors of any kind depress me. And my moods are more or less inversely related to…

H.M. Sloop of War ''Sir Isaac Brock'', on the Stocks at York (Toronto), April 1813, drawing by Owen Staples c. 1913 (Toronto Public Library).
Fearing that Kingston had too strong a British garrison, [American General Henry] Dearborn sought a surer victory by attacking a secondary target: York. Poorly fortified and lightly defended (by seven hundred men), York also promised a symbolic payoff as the capital of Upper Canada. And there was the allure of a warship, the Sir Isaac Brock, under construction at York. By capturing and completing that ship, the Americans could increase and prolong their command of Lake Ontario. [...]
Making the best of a bad situation, the British commander, General Roger H. Sheaffe, ordered a retreat by his regulars toward Kingston to the east. He had fires set to destroy the Sir Isaac Brock and to blow up a stock of gunpowder in a stone storehouse. The massive explosion sent skyward a deafening fireball and tons of stone, which fell in a deadly rain on the advancing American troops, killing 38 and wounding 222.
— Alan Taylor, The Civil War Of 1812: American Citizens, British Subjects, Irish Rebels, and Indian Allies
Although destroying military assets before they fall into enemy hands is standard practice, General Dearborn was apparently so annoyed by the destruction of Sir Isaac Brock that he delayed in ratifying an agreement of surrender after capturing York. This would have far-reaching consequences. American soldiers and sailors looted and burned York, and this was an impetus for British forces eventually burning the White House in revenge.

Words for the word game if you want them!
Gentle and/or quiet and/or smile
💚🌹💚🌹💚
(Good luck with your papers!)
thank you!!! i absolutely want them, they are pulling me all the way through my finals season thank you <3
"gentle" in "loneliness into loneliness", the queerplatonic two aces ted lasso fic
“Jamie,” he says. His voice is quiet and gentle, warm the way it always is, but edged with worry. “Jamie, are you alright? I mean- I mean, I don’t… I just need to know if you are okay, or if you need something. If you’re alright with the way I am touching you right now. I want to help but I don’t want to make it worse.”
"quiet" from my flashpoint time loop fic, "one right move"
Even as the landscape grows darker and the lights and activity of Toronto fade behind him, Spike keeps driving. He drives past Barrie, up through the corridor between Lake Simcoe and the Georgian Bay. Hours pass, until he runs out of gas and gets out of the car at the side of some quiet little offshoot of 400 North. The team is probably going to call a search and rescue on him, but Spike can’t find it in himself to care. He just starts walking away from his now-useless car, up a gently sloping hill.
"smile" from the aro buck 911 fic, "never been in love"
“I’m sorry,” he says, trying to plaster a smile on his face and sound as fine and breezy as possible. “This was stupid, I sound insane, I shouldn’t- I’m sorry. I don’t know why I said all of that.”
send me some words to find in my wips for motivation if you'd like to help me reward myself through my finals XD

You walk by this 12inch bolt still buried in 120 year old cement. You barely notice it. Its always there and likely always will.
Today you stop and look at it. Really look at it. You ask yourself "who could find this interesting?" This bolt held down one of those shore things boats tie up to. Big boats. I am on a trail going alongside a small river. The river never gets more than seventy feet across, is very shallow most of the time and has four waterfalls in under four miles. There was an attempt to make this river passable , which would connect two lakes. Lake Ontario and lake simcoe to be exact.
Construction started in 1911 or there abouts and lasted for two years, until funding for the project died. A good portion of that work can still be easily found and seen. Some portions were deliberately maintained for historical reasons. The rest has been retaken by nature. In time, all that is left of an abandoned lock system will be returned to the earth, including that rusty 12 inch bolt stubbornly attached to ancient cement.
So, I took a picture and I hope that you find it interesting in itself.
