A BUNCH OF ONES AND A ZERO

When you talked about your fantasies for returning home with Hunk, none of them were this grim and bleak. Earth was more green and lively than grey and galra-occupied. You had even gone as far as to believe that maybe some of your old crushes would notice you if you came back a war space hero support, that mom and dad would finally be happy with you and a bunch of other things.

You were glad that nobody could see your face after you put on your helmet, because you were positive that the team would be able to see you sweating your anxiety out. At this point you weren’t sure if you were crying or not. At least this glass in front of your face doesn’t get fogged up.

Back on earth all you did was write really shitty programs and slap them onto whatever was around: a social media platform barely anyone used, robots, etc. Eventually your skills had gotten you into the mechanics program at the Garrison, but after having locked yourself up for so long with code and weird creations, it was hard to connect to other people. Thankfully there had been a few oddheads that even back then, accepted you the same way your family eventually did. Leifsdottir and Kinkade were two, the blonde girl being the only one you’ve ever lost to in math. Kinkade had never been talkative, but you learned to enjoy the silences you shared overtime. 

Up in space, you had been the go-to hacker. Pidge and you had written multiple programs together and your efficiency only got better every time a Holt was added into the mix. For the coalition and rebellion, you took care of synching up their intel together once they first allied themselves and multiple times where they were close enough to retrieve information from key galra bases, you were there. 

But that was up in space, now you’re back on earth trying to accept the fact that your home planet was Galra-occupied. Drones and sentries roamed dust and ash covered cities that in your memory were full of life and people. You walked in the middle of their line and at the moment Lance screamed to take cover, Keith took you by the waist and pulled you under an overturned car. You spared a look at each other’s way before you pulled up a screen in front of you as he turned to Lance, telling him not to miss. After being rid of a few, he spoke up in their communications.

“Pidge, any chance that we could see those things before they could see us?”

“Already on it.” the brunette replied. “Looks like there’s four more heading our way.”

You examined the downed drone and noticed something in its wiring. 

“Wait, Pidge,” you said, coming closer to the drone. “These things--”

Before you could finish your sentence, Keith once again grabbed you and pulled you behind a rock, as Shiro informed the team that it wasn’t just drones this time. 

The Sentries themselves were no problem, but in the middle of the fight a familiar looking vehicle slammed one into a building, two humans emerging from it and shooting down the remaining drones.

“We got this!” a female voice shouted, while another shot the last drone hanging above Keith.

“I had it.” he quipped, making the soldier with an attack rifle snap back.

“Drones send out distress signals when they’re under attack. Our weapons neutralize those. So unless you want to deal with a swarm of those things, let us handle it.”

His voice was familiar, but at the same time you’d heard many voices while you were away from home. Maybe he sounded like someone you’d grown close to in the rebel forces?

In the vehicle, everyone slowly started shedding their helmets, all safe for you.

“Hey, aren’t you going to take that off?” Keith spoke, a hand on your shoulder.

“These regulate temperature, I’m good.” you replied nervously, making him frown in reply.

“Are you not feeling well?”

You put your index fingers together and shrank in your seat. As you spoke, Keith removed his hand from your shoulder.

“Oh you know, the crushing anxiety that maybe my family may or may not be safe. The usual.”

Keith had been nice to you since his return. You liked this new version of him, he was less prickly than he was before he left. Granted there were moments where he reverted back to what he was before you all were stuck on this space adventure together, but overall he’d slid back into the group after a whole 2 years of absence (for him at least) as if he never left. Out of all the paladins, he had been the hardest one to approach but knowing that the way you treasured him as a teammate was reciprocated right back was nice.

Arriving at the base, Shiro helped both you and Allura dismount the garrison vehicle. At the call of officer Iverson, you hid behind Shiro as he introduced earth’s Altean allies, thankfully going unnoticed as he focused on Keith right after. Or so you thought, because after Coran warned him about Kosmos’ powers he straightened like a rod with a cough. After giving the beast one last scratch behind the ears, he noticed that there had yet to be one soldier with their helmet on.

“Officer, it seems like there’s still one member of your team you’ve yet to introduce to me.”

“Who? Oh.”

The older man took you by the small of your back, basically telling you that there was no escape.

“They used to be a cadet here as well. I’m sure you’ll remember them once they properly greet you.”

With a sigh, you removed your helmet and straightened yourself for a salute.

“It’s a pleasure to see you again sir.” you spoke, you voice as steady as you could manage.

A vehicle away, another brunette replied to your greeting with wide eyes.

“She’s alive? She’s been alive this whole time?”

Keith felt James’ focus on you from afar and turned his way, noting his bewilderment. As Iverson called for Shiro to follow, the soldier came your way and turned you to face him by the shoulder, the action earning a small yelp from you.

“Hi James.” you smiled nervously, your hands clutching onto your helmet for dear life. 

“H… Hi.” he answered back, as if he was still processing that you were standing in front of him. “You, uh…”

Keith put between the two of you, glaring James down.

“Something you need?”

Summary: While spending time at Clear Day festival, Pidge tries to get over her feelings for Lance who is now in a relationship with her friend, Allura. Pidge then spent the day at the carnival with James Griffin. Will her feelings will stay the same or change after meeting James Griffin? 

A/N: This is my first James Griffin x Pidge one shot fanfic. Hope you all like it and enjoy. I just found this rare-pair and couldn’t help but type up one!

Pidge was wondering around the carnival and saw many couples around her as she gritted her teeth and annoyance, tightening her fists in a tight grip until she bumped into someone. “I’m so sorry, Miss Holt.” Pidge looked up to the famous MFE commander James Griffin who has the most worried expression all over his face.

“Oh, it’s fine. I wasn’t looking to be honest.” Pidge said sheepishly, rubbing her neck.

“Heh, me either. So, what are you doing here all alone? I thought you might be with your friends?” James asked, noticing she’s alone.

“Oh, they are somewhere. Out there.” Pidge frowned. James nodded in understanding. “Anyways, I am going to find my Dad and Mom, I need more tokens.” Pidge grinned as she was about to walk away.

“Is it alright if I come with you? My friends sort of ditched me.” James says as he rubbed his back.

Pidge blinked then had this rare pink blush forming on her cheeks. “O-Oh, that’s fine. I mean, if that is ok with you?”

James smiled gently as he stood next to her. “Sounds good to me.” James and Pidge went on to look for the rest of the Holt family.

Lance was signing all of the blue lions while trying to get one for Allura, or maybe he could find a green lion plushie. Lance slumped down as he thought of Pidge. “What’s the matter, boy?” The vendor asked, seeing his mood has changed.

“Oh, um, do you have any green lions?” Lance asked. “It’s for my other friend.”

“Right here. But you still need to sign all of these.” The vendor said as Lance groaned.

Pidge then spotted her parents at the photo booth and grabbed James’s hand, dragging him across the crowd. “Mom, Dad! I need more tokens!”

“That’s what happens when you waste it all.” Sam said.

“Dad!” Pidge give him the best puppy dog eyes she could with James snickering at her. He never had seen this side from the small paladin of Voltron.

“OK. How much do you need?” Sam asked, grabbing his token.

“How much have you got?” Pidge asked. Her father was about to give her the tokens but then her mother grabbed them.

“You’ll have to earn them. I want a family picture. But….”

Pidge groaned while Colleen looked at James who stiffened when she glanced at him. “If you join us, James will have to be apart of this family picture.” Colleen says as Pidge blushed deep red whereas James had this light blush on his face and looked away.

“Oh come, Katie. Make up your mind.” Colleen says as Pidge saw her own brother laughing at her.

She then looked back at James who was patiently waiting. “Um, you don’t have to if you don’t want to.”

“It’s fine with me. It’s just me and you as friends, right?” James asked as he looked at her with a blush forming on his cheeks.

“Oh, yeah. Friends.” Pidge rubbed her head in nervousness until Colleen pulled James and Pidge together for a family picture. All of them has a costume along with it.

“Aww, they look so adorable together.” Colleen gushed over the picture. “Oh, Sam aren’t look great together?”

Sam nodded in agreement while Matt was grinning at his sister while giving her a thumbs up. Pidge growled, gritted her teeth. “Let’s go before they do something crazy.” Pidge muttered as she heard the MFE commander chuckled. It was rare for her to smile or laugh. This was her first time to see him like this. It was a good sight for her to see.

She smiles and then caught up to him. “Hey, let’s play some games.”

James smiled and then grabbed her hand, “Alright, maybe I can win you a Green Lion plushie.” Pidge laughed cheerfully as they ran to find a game to play.

Lance then signed every last one of the lions from the game stall and finally got the Green Lion toy. Now, all he needs to do is look for Pidge and give it to her. He smiled looking at the lion in his hands. He went on to find Pidge in the carnival but couldn’t find her.

He spotted Hunk who was eating some food at a food stall. “Hey, Hunk, have you seen Pidge anywhere? I can’t find her.” Lance says, looking around.

“Hmm, no I haven’t. Why?” Hunk asked and then glanced down at his hand seeing him holding a small Green Lion plushie. “Oh, you got a prize for her, but weren’t you going to get one for Allura?”

“Yeah, I didn’t to be honest. Hope she forgives me. But on the bright side I got one lion for Pidge, right?” Lance asks with a smile.

“Yeah. You should give it to her ASAP.” Hunk said.

Pidge laughed out loud cheerfully at James who was growling in frustration. Not getting a single balloon popped and he always missed his target. He sighed and then later gave up. He looked at Pidge who was smirking. “You are sure having time of your life to see me failing at something I am not good at.” James says jokely, crossing his arms.

“Ahh, I’m sorry. It’s… cute to see you like this. Having fun, like there is no wars to fight. It’s the good normal you.” Pidge says as James passed the darts to her.

“Yeah. well, that’s mostly me doing my job.” James says with a blush and smile. And then saw Pidge got two balloons and had his mouth wide opened and looked at her surprised, seeing her put out her tongue out at him.

“H-how?”

“Hehe, perks of having a bayard as a weapon. And well, serving as a practice as well.” Pidge says with a grin on her face.

“Well, you’re right. A strong, beautiful and nerdy paladin would definitely beat me in a game.” James said with a smile as Pidge looked away from him and blushed deep red.

“U-Um, let’s go to see and want other games they have here at this carnival.” Pidge stammered.

James chuckled and followed her around the carnival. They went on rides, played games and talked to each other. Getting to know each other better. James saw Pidge was a brave and fierce smart paladin he had ever met. He admired her bravery and courage when she was fighting the Galra and admires her gentle and curious side.

Pidge may not know James from the start and wished she met him in the Garrison. He was a kind, gentle and well-mannered person she ever met. He is a brave pilot who always never back down from a fight and he did well in order to help them to save Earth.

James then saw a game that he could play. “Hey, Pidge! Let’s play this one.” James called out to her.

“Ugh, I am not good with guns. Good thing you are good with your aim. Since you know how to handle rifles.” Pidge nudged him on the arm.

“Exactly. And they have a Green Lion toy.” James smirked.

“Where?!” Pidge asked excitedly, looking for the toy and once she saw it. Her eyes began to sparkle and turned to James. “You have to win this!” James laughed and then placed the tokens on the counter. He then started to play and tried to take down much targets as he could.

Once the game was over, James won the game and the plus sized Green Lion plushie. Which is twice her size. But, nonetheless, she hugged it tightly in her arms and held it closely to her chest. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” Pidge thanked James.

“No problem. I think it’s time to get going.” James says seeing his friends coming towards them.

“Oh, well, it’s nice to um, finally get to know you and um, played some games together. See you soon?” Pidge asks.

“Sure. See you soon.” James smiled as he kissed the back of her hand and walked away leaving her blushing deep red and hugged her prize to her face. She never thought James would be this gentle and kind towards her. She find herself crushing on the MFE fighter.

James walked back to the Atlas with his friends and could feel their eyes on him. “What?”

“You and Pidge. I need details!” Rizavi demanded shaking his shoulders.

“Look, I just walked around with her in the carnival.” James assured them. “Nothing happened.”

“I think something did. We just saw you kissing the back of her hand.” Leifdottier pointed out.

James groaned. “So, something did happened. Looks like he has a crush on a pretty and nerdy paladin.” Kinkade teased his friend. All the way to the Atlas, James’s friends began to tease him and Pidge about spending time together at the carnival.

Pidge walked back to the Atlas with the prize in her hands. And saw Hunk smiling at her. “Hey, Pidge, who gave you that?” Hunk asked, seeing the toy she was holding.

“Um, James won it for me.” Pidge replied with a warm smile.

“Whoa, wait, wait. As in James Griffin?” Hunk asked raising an eyebrow.

“Uh, yeah, we just spent time together that’s all.” Pidge says. “Why?”

Hunk sweats nervously knowing that Lance was going to give her a Green Lion soft toy and it turns out James Griffin already had given her one. “O-Oh, nothing! Nothing! It’s looks cute.” Hunk replied quickly.

Pidge then nodded and walked away with a slight nod and walked along the whole way to her room to put her prize away. She looked at it one last time with a smile before leaving her room to go back to work and found Lance at the entrance. “Hey, Lance.”

“Hey. Um, here I got you a Green Lion plush toy. Pretty cool, right?” Lance asks with a cheery smile.

“Oh, that’s nice of you, Lance but I already got one.” Pidge gestured to the big soft toy laying on her bed.

“Huh, so who won that prize? Was it Keith?” Lance asked raised his eyebrow in suspicious.

“Nope. Well, it was James who won that prize.” Pidge says shyly thinking about the handsome commander.

Lance saw a hint of a blush on her cheeks and slump down. “Wait, you… like him?”

Pidge’s eyes widen and then looked down. “Well, take it as a crush, Lance. Nothing too serious is happening right?”

“Y-Yeah, t-that’s right. Understandable. Heh.” Lance says. “If you don’t want it, it’s ok.”

“No, no. I like it. It can be the kid version.” Pidge smiles taking the toy from his hands. “Thanks, Lance.” Pidge then saw James walking down the hallway and then she looked at Lance who smiled at her.

“It’s okay. Pidge, I wanted you to be happy.” Lance said as Pidge hugged him and then ran to catch up with James. The two greeted happily and chatted away with Lance looking at them with a sad smile but was happy that Pidge has found someone she could talk to, like how they used to. He wished Pidge happiness in the future.

“Hey, um, I want to thank you for the toy.” Pidge said to James.

“Your welcome. I’m glad that you liked it.” James replied with a blush and rubbed his neck. “Um, would you, uh, like to you, know, go on a date once we get back to Earth sometime?”

Pidge stopped and looked at him with her face burning up and squeaked. “O-Oh, uh, y-yeah. that would be n-nice. I loved to.”

“Really?” James asked with a smile.

Pidge nodded with a shy smile and then looked away, because she doesn’t want him to see her blushing. “So, uh, maybe I can help you with your fighter? We can do that while eating dinner? It could be our first date?” Pidge says.

“Then it’s a date milady.” James agreed.

Voltron S8 Positivity Post

Since legit every post I’ve seen on the new season is negative I thought I’d make a list of all the great things from the new season.

-First episode/ Pidge was Hilarious and I died at her gremlin routine

-Pidge’s mom was the shit and i love her

-the Allurance was there and it was adorable and really sweet

-The art work was fantastic. Did you guys see some of those scenes. Talk about a mood board

-Lance really did display cd this season with how kind and real he was. Man was the voice of reason in a lot of ways

-Kinkade blog was de best

-Kolivan is best dad of the year. #vlogthedaddy

-Kosmo was best boy (before he vanished, where did he go??? Injured in Med bay maybe??? Still point stands)

-There was a lot of great interactions between the paladins. Keith and Hunk. Lance and Keith. Pidge and Allura. They all love each other guys

-Hunk was on fire for being the kindest man in existence

-Shiro taking Charge and being TheLeader was the hottest experience

-Shiro arm wrestle King of my heart

-Keith and Hunk stuck in the equivalent of alien ‘it’s a small world’ I was dying with laughter

-Romelle worked hard and deserves acknowledgement for that

-Allura was A Queen in all ways

-Honerva made a great villain

-All the random Alteans were awesome and so great

-baby Lotor 😭🙏

-A lot of the side characters really got love despite not having a lot of screen time

-Slav you funky little 6 armed alien

-Coran was a National Treasure. True Space Uncle of the Universe

-Ponytail non-straight Keith who could’ve been emperor but was like nah and is now the coolest dude in the universe

-Hunk the Anbassador Chef of peace (and my heart ❤️)

-Altean Lance markings

-Allura being The Ultimate Hero. No one will ever forget her and her memory will live on for all

-the ultimate ship was realized in that Shiro x Some Rest was acknowled with help from random husband. He’s happy guys (Rip Sheith my main ship but Keith is happy that Shiros happy lbr)

I could go on, but here’s a brief list of positive things. I thought the season was good with a lot of flaws (a lot guys no joke but everyone else is tearing into those). But it’s a kids show and they did a nice job with the limited amount of episodes they had. Thx to the Vld Crew and creators! It’s been a wild ride!!!

It saddens me that Hunk ships isn't really that popular in this fandom, because all of them are freaking great and they have a lot of potential. I've made a similar post to this, but I just want to remind people what kind of content you can find in the different Hunk ships (bad eng btw and I suck at explaining stuff lmao)

Let’s start with Hance (Hunk x Lance). This is legit childhoodfriendship-to-lovers type of relationship. This kind of relationship is so beautiful. If you love slow burn, then you can write (or read) 40+ pages of slow burn. Talking about slow burn, let’s go over to Heith (Hunk x Keith). This is the slowestburn ship ever. They aren’t really close at the beginning, but they first become friends, and it takes ages before they even get together. But if you don’t really like slow burn ships, let´s go over to Hunay (Hunk x Shay). We all know this is the real canon king of Voltron. They have been canon since day one. I´ve had this headcanon of them traveling together around the galaxy, since Shay seems like a curious person, just like Pidge. 

Hidge/Punk (Hunk x Pidge) is a real cute ship. I bet Pidge´s father even ship them. This ship is the kind of relationship where the couples have a lot of silly arguments but at the end of the day, they support and love each other. Hallura (Hunk x Romelle) is another kind of ship where the couple support each other a lot. They lift each other up and inspire each other to be the best version of themselves. If you like angst, you can easily turn this into an angst fic tbh (since Allura is dead, you know rip). If you want to ship Hunk with another Altean, then we have Romelle! Hunelle (Hunk x Romelle) is two sassy people who can destroy you with their pinky. Romelle says a lot of reasonable stuff that Hunk has been trying to tell his team. They immediately hit off and it takes a lot to split them up.

 But if you don’t like these ships, that is okay because I got more for you! Hunkade (Hunk x Kinkade) is a ship that is starting to get more attention. Honestly, they are just two pure sunshine people who deserve all the love in the world. Kinkade gets really curious of Hunk´s cooking and likes to film him. Kinkade seems like a straight-forward type of guy and he immediately confess his feelings to Hunk when he realizes them. Want to ship Hunk with another MFE pilot? Then we have Hames (Hunk x James). This is a pretty new ship that I´ve recently started to ship. It can be the hate-to-love type of relationship.

Not so into otp but ot3? Then I got some options for you:

Lance couldn’t have known what his words were going to cause after he said them. In his defense, Keith hardly ever opened up.

Yet it still came as a surprise to him and the other paladins to see how hard Keith flinched when Lance called him his rival. Not to mention the way James Griffin’s jaw seemed to drop before his features blank out so familiar to—

James stormed out of the room before anything else could be said. Keith moved to follow, but he was quickly pinned to the wall by Indirah (she had the second highest grades in their class after Keith was expelled and everyone had been convinced, she had a crush on Keith and James)

The Paladins stared in silence. They had seen Keith face down all sort of enemies with a straight face. They’ve seen him face down Zarkon without blinking an eye. And yet, he looked absolutely scared for his life as someone half a foot shorter than him sneered at him.

“What the hell does he mean by that, Kogane?”

Lance swore he heard Keith whimper.

The raven-haired paladin quickly shook his head. The other MFEs were standing behind Indirah looking like an intimidating group of thugs. “It’s not what you think!”

Her grip seemed to tighten on his armor. She didn’t even seem to flinch as Hunk tried to separate the two.

“Oh, really? Tell me what it is that I think then!”

Keith shook his head rapidly, “Lance and I aren’t rivals. I wouldn’t do that to him. I wouldn’t do that to James.”

Lance spluttered indignantly. “Hey! What! We had a bonding moment.”

If anything, his words seemed to spark an even deeper anger in her. Lance swore he heard her growl as she pressed Keith further into the wall. For such a small size, she had a lot of mass. She wasn’t even budging no matter how hard Hunk seemed to push her away.

The words coming out of her mouth were near a hiss, “A bonding moment? Do tell what this moment entailed.”

“Don’t answer that Lance,” Keith immediately shot out. Indirah seemed to glow red with hatred. “Please, Indirah. Let me see him.”

“I’m not letting you anywhere near him, you cheating scumbag,” she yelled out. Her glare turned poisonous.

And the room just goes silent.

Hunk blinks, “I’m sorry. Did you just say cheating?”

And Allura, sweet Allura, “And who is this him that you’re keeping him from?”

Indirah looks at them blankly for a second before she’s tenses up in rage again, “Excuse me! You’ve been in space for five years and you didn’t tell anyone about your relationship with him! What you were just going to keep a secret while you rolled around the sheets with Lance?”

“WHAT!” Lance and the others screech. All eyes turn to Keith who’s looking so uncomfortable and as if he wanted to flee but was scared of the very angry female in front of him.

“Hold on,” Pidge declares. Her hands are crossed in an X formation and she’s looking between everyone still in the room. “Clearly there is some misunderstanding going on here.”

Indirah looks up her up and down. Like she’s trying to size her up. The auburn-haired female doesn’t even seem to care that they were the Paladins of Voltron. Heroes across the galaxy, etc. etc. “I’m not seeing it. Keith is a lying and cheating asshole and McClain is a homewrecker.”

Keith seemed to explode as he finally pushed her away. She stumbled back just a little before she steadied herself and glared at him. “I don’t have time for this! Lance and I aren’t together!”

He ran off before anything else could be said. Indirah was about to storm after him but Hunk blocked her way. Lance chuckled awkwardly, “So are you going to tell us what that was about? Cause Keith isn’t lying. We are not together.”

Indirah and the others paused before they all turned to look at him. “Then why were you calling him your rival,” the one he thinks is Nadia questions.

“Because he is,” he asks unsure. He yelps and leaps behind Allura as Indirah begins to walk over towards him.

“So, you are a homewrecker,” Indirah snarls. She’s pulling up the sleeves to her uniform looking like a deadly warrior.

“NO!”

The blonde one, Ina something, “I believe I understand what is going on here.”

“Well can you explain it to us,” Pidge demanded. Ina didn’t even blink. “James and Keith are rivals, but they are also dating. Being ‘rivals’ is their code word for boyfriend and ‘bonding moments’ were just them either going on dates or having sex.”

Indirah glared harder.

Lance just stares.

One because he cannot believe that’s he’s been calling Keith his boyfriend for all this time. It makes the way Keith reacted in confusion and disgust and anger so much more understanding. [And how Keith forgot him being his “suppose” rival when they weren’t rivals to begin with]

Two he can’t believe Keith no one understands my pain, or my glowing purple sword has a boyfriend. A hot one at that because James was cute when they were younger and now, he’s gorgeous. Not as good looking as himself though.

Oh, be still his bi heart.

“No, no. We were rivals, but without the relationship. We competed. There was no dating. No homewrecking. The bonding moment was Keith holding me after I nearly died and all that. No dates.”

Indirah stares at him for another moment and its startling to watch how all the other MFEs defer to her. She roams her eyes over the rest of them before she scoffs lightly.

“Fine. Whatever,” the dark-haired one, Kinkade, pushes her shoulder lightly. She pouts stubbornly. “I apologize for threatening you.”

She turns to leave.

“Wait, where are you going?”

“To make sure my boyfriends haven’t killed each other.”

Epic silence.
