Language goals ft. fave apps
Tumblr media
Hello 2021 and happy new year everybody 💫 This year I decided to take language learning more seriously but at the same want to have more fun with it! First of all, I finally decided to create langblr/studyblr to engage with language community and to keep myself accountable. That's why I decided to gift myself the lifetime subscription bundle of Lingodeer and Deer+. I was trying to decide how to make it easier for myself to learn but also being able to do it on the go without sacrificing the quality of the materials, you know going a bit deeper than "the whale cooks dinner" lol The trial lessons looked too good to not catch this holiday's deal and after a few days of using it I am already so glad I did purchased it :D I have been slowly building the habit of learning or at least reviewing every day something vital for progressing in such processes as the acquisition of new words and grammatical structure especially if totally foreign our own mother tongue. THE ACTION PLAN: Alright, as many in the language community I decided to divide my year in chunks but only as a few have done, I have already decided what languages I will focus on each section of the year. Every 3 months my routine will have a drastic change not only because of course I wanna learn different languages but also because knowing myself very well I need a breeze of fresh air after a while otherwise I hardly can stick with it. So from January to March I will start Russian on the course app. It's a new language to me, I kinda know something already but it's too little for me to even consider myself a false beginner. Gladly Lingo has me covered on that with the course adding although immersion with YouTube  as a tool to "get used to the language". For drilling and learning more vocab can't use Deer+ yet because they didn't seem to have it there but hopefully soon they will add it however in the meantime I will take the chance to review my German. Seemed pretty funny the system they used there so hopefully that will help to make me stick with it. It has been difficult in fact to review vocab of languages I have studied in the past for some reason but I guess gamification helps to shift the attention and make you focus more easily. That is why for first three quarters of the year I will learn a new language with the main app (so as I already said Jan - Mar for Russian, Apr - Jun for Korean ,  Jul - Sept Mandarin Chinese) and then for each three month period review a given language I already know with Deer+: German, French and then lastly Spanish. For immersion I was hoping to make reading a priority from the second half of the year to have this routine settled you know but will see. At least I know YT and Spotify will be my very good friends ahah I really love listening music from different countries and often it happens to find in my target languages so definitely that's a win - win situation for me. The last quarter instead I decided to let it free, who knows maybe some new language I wanna learn will pop-out through the year and I will start to learn it along with my set studies or then leave it for the end of the year. Another option is just going back on the languages that will need it the most and slowly building some range of at least elementary to lower intermediate proficiency in all the new languages I decided to start this year. So those are my goals. I hope all your dreams and goals will come true and that this new year will be good and a happy one for you.
