14. "i've been looking for my hoodie-" "my hoodie, you mean."
(modern!au)
Tanjirou was used to a routine when he returned home from work. He would open the door to his cat greeting him with a meow, followed by his girlfriend meeting him in the genkan with a kiss and a murmured, "Okaeri." That was the signal for the burdens of the day to disappear from his shoulders.
However, there was a shift in routine when he called out "Tadaima!" and was met with silence after the customary greeting by Shirogane.
He blinked, taking in the quiet living room. The lights were on, which meant that Ayame was home from work, but she wasn't heading over to greet him. The kitchen was empty as well; no clanging of pots and pans as Ayame wrestled with the temperamental stove that they kept saying they would replace.
Tanjirou put away his coat, stepping into his house slippers with a concerned sound. Shirogane wound around his legs before sauntering off to do what he did best - napping in the early evening sunlight until it was dinnertime.
"Ayame?" he called out.
There was a thump, then sounds from their bedroom. Ayame appeared, her bun half-unravelled, the loosened curls sitting on one shoulder.
"Tanjirou, you're home! I didn't hear you," she said apologetically, leaning up to press a distracted kiss to his lips. "Okaeri."
His hands settled on her hips before she could draw away. The corners of her lips twitched, her hands resting on his shoulder in return.
"What's wrong?" he asked, thumbs rubbing circles against the worn fabric of her t-shirt. He recognised it; it was his old baseball jersey from high school. "Did something happen at work today, love?"
"No - well, yes," she admitted at Tanjirou's eyebrow raise, "but that's not the point."
"No?"
"I've been looking for my hoodie - "
"My hoodie, you mean."
"Our hoodie," she retorted. "Don't be selfish, Tanjirou."
Tanjirou couldn't help the grin that helplessly tugged at his lips. He shouldn't have been so happy; Ayame had just confessed to having a bad day at work, although it was obvious enough when he saw his old baseball jersey hanging off her frame. She only ever wore it when she needed comfort and he wasn't around to provide it immediately. Her workplace was much closer than his, after all.
"Anyway," Ayame continued, playing with the hair at his nape, "I can't find it. Do you know where it is?"
He hummed, fingers locking at the small of her back so he could pull her flush against his chest. She followed easily, gravitating into his orbit without a complaint.
"Sunshine?"
"Hm?"
Tanjirou blinked his eyes open - he wasn't aware they had closed. He nuzzled the top of her head, humming once more at the familiar scent of her shampoo.
"The hoodie?" she questioned.
Right. The hoodie. It was a hoodie that was about two sizes too big on him, with a green-and-black icihimatsu pattern. He had gotten it as a birthday present from his family when he was fifteen and it had been so hilariously huge that he could still wear it even now that he was well into his adult years. From the moment he started dating Ayame, she was wearing it more often than not. He didn't mind - it looked much better on her than it ever did on him.
"I think we left it at Zenitsu's place," he said thoughtfully.
The last time she had worn it was on their double date with Zenitsu and Nezuko. They had returned to Zenitsu's apartment afterwards, and they'd had another heated games night as usual.
Ayame's expression fell. Tanjirou leaned down to kiss her frown away, helplessly charmed by the way she loved that old hoodie so much.
When they broke apart, foreheads pressed together, she murmured, "We should go get it back."
"Mn, sure." He pressed his lips to hers again, spinning her so she was walking back towards the living room. "But not right now. It's late."
"It's barely seven," she protested, although she allowed him to walk her backwards until her calves hit the sofa. "Tanjirou, the hoodie - "
"You don't need it," he assured her. "I'm here now, okay?"
"You just got back from work."
"It's fine, it's fine."
"You stink. You need a shower. You smell like sweat and sugar."
Her nose wrinkled. She was never very fond of overly sweet things, even though she was dating a pastry chef.
Tanjirou smirked. "Let go of me so I can take a shower, then."
Her arms wound around his neck, a stubborn pout on her lips. Always so contradictory, his Ayame.
"Maybe after one more kiss," Ayame said, fingers sliding into his hair. "Then you can go."
Tanjirou ducked his head down, lips meeting hers. He knew as well as she did that they never stopped at one more kiss. But hey, who was he to tell her otherwise?
He had lost count of how many kisses they'd had when the doorbell rang. He let out a groan, unwilling to move from his spot where he was draped over Ayame as she lay on the couch. He gave her a beseeching look, begging her to ignore it. Unfortunately, the doorbell rang once more, followed by a staccato knock that could only be Zenitsu.
Ayame chuckled, pressing a fleeting kiss to his cheek. "Think this is payback for all the times you interrupted him and Nezuko?" she teased.
"Probably," Tanjirou grumbled, moving so she could answer the door.
It wasn't his fault he hadn't realised Zenitsu was trying to woo Nezuko!
He rolled into the warmth Ayame left behind, finally letting his body settle into the old sofa. He only raised himself on his elbows when Ayame excitedly called out his name.
"Look!" she gasped, eyes lighting up in delight.
He smiled helplessly. "Well, would you look at that."
She was already Tanjirou's oversized hoodie, the too-long sleeves flapping about as she waved her arms. There was a pleased flush on her cheeks, and Tanjirou just felt like he was falling for her all over again. To think she would be so happy over such a small thing.
"Hope I'm not intruding," Zenitsu said - as if he cared if he did.
Tanjirou snorted. "Of course not." He gave his blonde friend a warm smile. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it." Zenitsu turned to Ayame. "Inosuke told me what happened at work today. Must've been embarrassing, ne?"
Ayame stilled. She turned her head slowly to glare at Zenitsu. "Don't."
Tanjirou sat up. His curiousity was piqued.
"What happened?"
"We don't have to talk about it," Ayame answered hurriedly. "Come on, Tanjirou - look! I have my hoodie back!"
"Our hoodie," he muttered under his breath with no small amount of amusement. "And hey, I want to know!"
"Great!" Zenitsu grinned. "Inosuke's coming over in half an hour with takeout. He saw the whole thing."
Ayame scowled. "I hate you guys."
Tanjirou laughed, beckoning her over. She begrudgingly shuffled over, still pouting even as she stood between his legs.
"You love us," he teased, pulling her down by the sleeves for one more kiss.
Her gaze softened when she pulled away. Her hands, buried in his hoodie sleeves, cupped his cheeks before she was leaning back in for another kiss. As usual, one more kiss was never enough.
"I love you," she whispered against his lips.
"Guys, seriously," Zenitsu whined, causing the couple to pull apart. "Look, I'm so happy you guys are a loving couple, but give it a break."
"I'll give you a break, alright," Ayame huffed, glaring at Zenitsu. "Break one of your bones."
Tanjirou laughed into Ayame's stomach. Fingers slipping under her hoodie and shirt, he traced I love you too onto the warm skin of her lower back. Her warm glance told him she knew that too.
18. "you're cold?" "no? it's super sunny right now-" "take my jacket anyway."
(modern!au)
Fujiko couldn't believe her luck.
It had been pouring when she left her house. The dark clouds had dominated the sky before she could blink, and a heavy downpour had dropped right onto her head. Of course, it had to be the one day she had forgotten her umbrella at home. She had to run to the station, glaring out at the deluge that had accompanied her walk.
And now...
"Unbelievable," she muttered to herself.
The sky was a bright blue, the sun shining down cheerfully. A few fluffy white clouds floated amongst the azure expanse.
The journey had only taken half an hour. How the hell?
"What happened to you?"
Fujiko turned at the sound of her friend's voice. Michikatsu was looking down at her still-damp clothes, utterly puzzled.
"It rained when I left the house," she sighed, shaking her head. "I guess the wind blew the storm away from here."
A brisk wind blew past, causing a shiver to wrack through her body. She had thought it was bad in the air-conditioned depths of the train, but even with the sun's warmth beating down on her, her drenched clothes were keeping the cold locked close to her skin.
Yoriichi caught sight of her and immediately coughed.
"You're cold?" he asked, already removing his jacket.
"No?" Fujiko lied. At Yoriichi's bland look, she added, "It's super sunny right now - "
"Take my jacket anyway."
His jacket was shoved into her arms.
Fujiko blinked. She didn't think Yoriichi had ever acted so insistent before.
"Yoriichi, I'll get it wet," she protested, trying to return it to him.
He glanced down at her, then immediately averted his gaze.
"It - It's fine," he insisted. "Just take it - put it on. Please."
"But why?"
Yoriichi winced. "Don't... ask. Just - please."
"I don't understand - "
"Your bra is showing," Michikatsu interjected flatly. "Fujiko, please."
Oh.
... Oh!
It was the middle of summer, so her pale pink blouse was made of a thin material to keep her cool. She hadn't expected the sudden summer rain, and...
Her cheeks heated up.
"That explains why everyone was staring at me," she said weakly. "I'm going to crawl into a hole and hide forever."
Yoriichi laughed quietly, glancing at her as she buried her face in his jacket. "Don't do that. Just put on my jacket and it'll be fine."
Bemoaning her own idiocy, she pulled her hands through the sleeves and zipped it up halfway. The long sleeves fell over her fingers. A warm and spiced scent tickled her nose - the scent of Yoriichi's cologne.
Fujiko sighed. "I look ridiculous."
"It's fine," Yoriichi assured her. "We're going to see a movie anyway."
She peered up at him. "Won't you be cold?"
He shook his head.
With a smirk, Michikatsu muttered, "You guys can always share body heat."
Fujiko reached over to punch him in the arm in outrage. Yoriichi merely reddened and ducked his head.
"Don't joke around like that," she hissed, wishing her ears didn't feel so hot.
Michikatsu gave her a bland look. She didn't know why he was so insistent that Yoriichi had feelings for her. That was the most ridiculous thing she had ever heard in her life. Everyone knew that he was in love with Uta - Michikatsu better than anyone.
"Where's Keichirou-kun?" Yoriichi asked, stepping between Fujiko and his brother before their bickering could escalate.
Fujiko slipped her hands into Yoriichi's jacket pockets, warming her cold hands. "He's waiting for us at the movie theatre."
"Better get a move on, then," said Michikatsu, lengthening his strides.
Fujiko let out an annoyed sound in the back of her throat; he knew she couldn't keep up with him like that!
Thankfully, Yoriichi remained by her side instead of leaving her in the dust. He was silent, which wasn't a strange occurrence, except that this silence felt like he was holding something back.
Fujiko smiled warmly. "Well, Yoriichi? You can say whatever is on your mind."
Yoriichi glanced at her, only to have his gaze skitter away.
"... It looks good on you," he confessed quietly.
"Hm?"
"The jacket. It looks better on you than it does on me."
There was a quiet confession in his voice. Fujiko thought that maybe it was possible Yoriichi might see her as more than a friend.
Maybe.

Ya know after reading the latest update with zenitsu and ayame conversation, marriage came up and i was kinda mildly surprised that ayame and even Tanjirou wouldnt be the type to marry. Granted their pretty young already to be thinking that long term, especially with death being just around the corner with their missions. I guess maybe after everything was over or even in an au where non of this tragedy happend, i would think tanyame would be up for having a big family, like legit 5+ kids 😂 OHHH if they did, what kinda parents do u think they would be like? Parents headcanon??? 🥺
(btw zenitsu, very relatable and we would totally flip a shit over drinks about tanyame, more so tanjirou the little blockhead)
i think that ayame and tanjirou don't have the capacity to think about marriage at the moment. i mean, in canon, tanjirou wasn't even sure if he would live long enough to cure nezuko. his desperation, i feel, is due to that. he doesn't want nezuko to be alone, and he doesn't want her to miss too much.
tanyame have always been a lesson in duty above all else. they have both individually set aside so many of their own dreams by joining the kisatsutai, so naturally, both of them don't think of marriage. this makes me very sad bc yeah, they should be married and have happy families - preferably with each other!
zenitsu has only even known tanjirou and ayame after they became demon slayers. they've both firmly set aside any dreams of a simple life at that point, so he only knows them as the driven, training-obsessed individuals that they are now. even when we go back to early in the fic, when they talked about their ideal types, both ayame and tanjirou spoke about it as if it was already part of a past that isn't theirs anymore. it's kind of a reminder that zenitsu, as much as he can hear a lot of things, doesn't really know their past. After all, he still thinks that they were childhood friends that played together and were always found together, but that never happened. it was only after okutama that they became closer, and after - or during - final selection that they became the tight-knit pair he was introduced to! i like that he forms a lot of misconceptions of their relationship ^^ if u ask me, inosuke probably has a better view of what ayame and tanjirou were and are to each other, because he isn't blinded by zenitsu's ideals!
anyway! that got a lil sad, so tanyame parent headcanons under the cut! (there are so many...)
- i can see ayame as being the laidback parent, the one who is calm in the face of any familial calamity. i mean, we know that she'll be panicking on the inside, but outwardly she will be very calm
- meanwhile, tanjirou is totally the panicky parent. he's the first to react when something happens - be it a baby crying for seemingly no reason, or a child's first fall - and it'd be a big reaction
- their kids wouldn't have any problem talking to their parents about anything, but they definitely have one that they prefer over the other. the eldest kids would feel more comfortable going to tanjirou, while the younger kids would always turn to ayame
- ayame would be the scary parent though. she's the sterner one
- but tanjirou is the one the kids would hate to disappoint
- like ayame would scold them and it'd feel bad, but tanjirou would just smile sadly and they'd feel rotten on the inside
- i can imagine they'd both be on the same page for a lot of things. as demon slayers, they were partners, after all! which means trying to pit kaachan against touchan won't work. at all.
- the kids rarely see them fight seriously; those were usually done behind closed doors so the kids wouldn't see
- look. we all know tanyame would be lovey dovey af. pet names fall from their lips as easily as their names do, to the point where, when the eldest kids were learning to talk, they'd follow their parents and call tanjirou "sunshine" or "darling", or ayame "sweetheart" and "love" instead of kaachan and touchan
- the younger kids would be more embarrassed than their older siblings about how affectionate their parents are, though. i can't imagine tanyame will stop with the pda even when they're married with kids
- anyway tanjirou teaching all his kids hinokami kagura while ayame watches. that is all.
- they're both the fun parents. if tanjirou is too busy to play with the kids, ayame will chase them around and vice versa. they're both super into having play time with the kids! when both parents are free, u know the house is gonna be filled with delighted shrieks
- ayame and tanjirou are both the sole inheritors of family arts, but i think the kids will lean more towards charcoal burning than blacksmithing. they'd be kamados, after all. (don't worry, i won't let the higuchi forge die either 😤)
- if ayame brings out the koto, u know she'll have a captive audience in front of her - children and husband. the image is so cute that i'm in tears 😭 😭 😭
- i also like the idea that the kids get to see their parents' silly side when the whole squad gets together! they get to see their calm kaachan go a lil nuts when zenitsu and inosuke are involved, and touchan becomes even more ungovernable bc i still believe nezuko holds the sole brain cell in the squad
- although they get anxious when inosuke rough houses with ayame for... reasons. to them, kaachan is the more delicate of their parents. again, for reasons. but come on, kids, ur mum is a former hashira
- the girls would definitely inherit ayame's ability to feel embarrassed when embarrassing things happen tho. just imagine the kamado ladies doing full-body cringes when smth embarrassing happens in front of them. for the greater good
- also u know if anyone breaks ayame's babies' hearts, she's gonna calmly bring out her katana and start polishing it while tanjirou has to frantically remind her that arson isn't actually a solution to anything (sanemi and tengen are a terrible influence on ayame)
- dad with a shotgun? no, no, kaachan with a katana. if u can't treat any of the kamados right, ayame will remove ur kneecaps without hesitation
- i bet the kids think tanjirou is the introvert while ayame is the extrovert, until they see their parents in a party situation and realise that ayame is dying inside when all these people talk to her while tanjirou is thriving
- okay there are a lot of hcs already but sometimes ayame and tanjirou will dance around the house with the radio playing in the bg and the kids have all seen it and quietly hope they can do that with their future s/os too
- this is a tanyame blog that is all (unless it's a genyame blog)
okay there are a lot of hcs and this is all i can think of for now, but feel free to ask me more any time! thank u so much for this!!!!!!! i will now proceed to go feral over married!tanyame and also parents!tanyame.
(u, me and zenitsu in an izakaya just trash-talking tanyame and how stupid they are. u guys handle dissing tanjirou while i chime in that ayame isn't any better and we just get tipsy and angry. i love it)

10. Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
___________
You know, i actually never really thought of this until now, what was the process like for you to create Ayame as a pretty nice partner for Tanjirou? I think it can be pretty hard to create a couple that is balanced so that they are not toxic nor unrealistically perfect. Since in canon its Kanao who is paired with Tanjirou, still Ayame seamlessly blends in to become more like canon character than an oc because of the relationship dynamics she has with other in fits other than Tanjirou.
Anyways I asked this because im a raging Tanyame simp, if thats not already glaringly obvious heh
i'm a tanyame simp, you're a tanyame simp... suffice to say, anyone who's followed fits this long is probably, in some way and form, a tanyame simp. except for those who are genyame simps. i’m still sorry about that.
10. Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
in all honesty, i've always had a soft spot for main characters in shounen mangas. the ones that spring to mind off the top of my head are naruto from, well, naruto, kaneki ken from tokyo ghoul, midoriya izuku from bnha... i've just always been drawn to the characters that mangakas point to and go "this is the good guy. this is who i want you to root for all the time" and i'm like yeah sure okay. i've also always loved ocs, because sometimes you just see a moment in a show and go "but what if there was someone else at that moment who does what i want to do for them?"
ayame is a lot like that, i think. tanjirou's story is just so, so tragic. he takes on too much, he shoulders the weight of the sky on his shoulders and he's always expected to be the strong one. there's no one on his side, he's so alone and no one can really, truly understand what he's going through. more than that... i just wanted him to not be so alone. if i could, i'd pull him into a big ole bear hug and squeeze the breath outta his lungs.
i guess the simple answer to this question is: i like tanjirou, so i want to give him some comfort.
the complicated answer would be... well. romance was never the focus of kny. sometimes, it didn't even feel like character interaction, beyond the first half of the manga, was all that important. i get it! when you're serialised in a manga, some things have to fall to the wayside so you can advance the plot. there are only so many pages you have to tell your story in and make sure people will keep wanting to read it. in fits, i get a chance to expand on things, pull from extras in the anime and also the light novels - after all, everyone is already kinda invested in canon. it's up to me to make people be interested in ayame and what she can bring. i've read a lot of wonderful ocs in my time as a reader, so it's nice when people feel something for ayame ^^ i'm also,,,,,,, a total romance fiend. i love reading romance fics, but even better when they're character/oc. sometimes we get to see the character treat the oc differently, sometimes we see them treat the oc totally in-character and sometimes the tender moments just make you breathe a sigh of relief and go aaaaaaaaaaa.
tanyame, i think, is a lot like all of that at once, i guess. i want to give tanjirou comfort. at the same time, i think i’d like it if he gave ayame some comfort too.

18. If you wrote a sequel to Fog in the Summertime what would it involve?
__________
What? Dont look at me like that! i want hope! I NEED HOPE FOR MY CHILDREN!
Btw more questions to come to the point that I will be insufferable, my birthday gift to you. Sorry! 😅
none of ur questions are insufferable idk what u're talking about. the only insufferable one is me bc all i wanna do is talk about fits all the time.
18. If you wrote a sequel to Fog in the Summertime what would it involve?
a sequel...... hmmmm.......
u know what? i'm not really sure! i never really gave it much thought because i’ve kinda always known how fits is gonna end. the perks of having gotten into a fandom after the source material ends uwu
i guess it would be pretty low-action compared to the original series. it would probably just follow the squad in the post-canon years - exploring their lives now that they aren't demon slayers, seeing how the survivors interact with one another. the shinzou squad from rld, i think, would show up a lot more. the ubayashikis as well. other ocs, like chiyo-san, would play a small but important role.
this might be a bit spoilery, but okutama would be the main setting of the sequel, i think. an exploration into the village after everything that has happened. ayame never mentions going home, but tanjirou has a few times in canon. the concept of home, however, has shown up a fair bit in fits. so... yeah.
the fits sequel would most definitely be a slice-of-life fic, essentially.
thank u for the question!!! wow, this really made me think teehee.
For more questions, here’s the ask game! You can also find other ask games here!

i didn't think about drunk!sengoku squad but now i'm thinking about drunk!sengoku squad everyone say thank u to @latenightsonrooftops right meow
Alcohol tolerance, from worst to best:
1. Yoriichi (gets tipsy after one cup of sake, pretty much drunk by the third. he can't remember when he drank the second one.)
2. Keichirou (drinks very fast and forgets to eat)
3. Fujiko (can at least finish a sake jug on her own before it hits her, but she at least eats while she drinks, unlike someone, keichirou)
4. Michikatsu (is always the one who's most sober and ends up looking after the others)
drabbles under the cut!
yoriichi, i feel, doesn't drink much, which is why his alcohol tolerance is so bad. he rarely drinks outside; if he's gonna let loose with alcohol, he'd do it at the rengoku estate exclusively.
when he's drunk, he's actually the tamest out of all of them. his brain-to-mouth filter is absolutely shattered though, so it ends up pretty funny. any thought that crosses his mind flies out of his mouth. and i mean any.
"Do squirrels get cold?"
Fujiko, Keichirou and Michikatsu pause. They turn to their companion, then to the empty sake cup loosely clenched in his hand.
"Two?" Keichirou guesses.
Michikatsu picks up the sake jug and swirls it. Sighs. "Three. Keichirou."
"Already? Don't expect me to keep track, Michirin. He's your brother!"
"Now, now, don't squabble," Fujiko chortles. She turns to Yoriichi. "No, I don't think squirrels get cold, Yoriichi. They have fur."
Yoriichi blinks slowly. Hazily. He moves deliberately, eyes glued to his sake cup as he places it on the tray. He's too well-trained to be loose-limbed, but he's very careful.
"But they're so small," he whispers. His gaze wanders to Fujiko. "Do you get cold? Because you're small?"
"Oi." Fujiko smiles to hide her annoyance. she's taller than the average woman; she just happened to be surrounded by giants. "It's not because I'm small."
"Maybe you should hug a squirrel," Yoriichi declares, then carefully clambers to his feet. "I saw one in the tree. Over there."
"What? Yoriichi - what? Don't - leave the squirrels alone! Yoriichi!"
keichirou is an exuberant drunk. he's already very loud when he's sober, so don't even think about his volume control when he's two shades to the wind. he's so enthusiastic about everything that sometimes he can get into barfights. fujiko has known him long enough to know when to corrall him, but that also means yoriichi and michikatsu are useless when keichirou gets in one of his moods.
"I only said he would attract women better if he smiled more," Keichirou says, befuddled.
Fujiko doesn't relinquish her grip on his kimono, dragging him behind her. "Not before you said his face looked like it belonged on a hog. Honestly, you'll give me grey hairs before I'm thirty."
Keichirou laughs. It echoes down the street. "Too late for that!"
She grunts, shooting her two other companions a glare. The brothers amble behind them, as composed as ever.
"Why do I even bother bringing you two along?" she sighs. "I told you to keep an eye on him!"
Yoriichi ducks his head to hide an embarrassed smile. He isn't good with crowds. He still rarely speaks unless spoken to, and even if he had spoken, it was drowned out by the noise. He's never found the need to raise his voice.
Michikatsu snorts, crossing his arms. "Keichirou is a grown man, and a Demon Hunter. Stop coddling him, Fujiko."
"Do you think my beloved would like a cat?" Keichirou says suddenly.
A cat that was innocently winding its way down the path freezes and whips its head about at the loud noise. It lets out a yowl as gold-ringed red eyes land on it.
"Absolutely not," Fujiko bites out, hooking a hand in his collar. "Don't even think about it. You got all scratched up last time!"
Michikatsu snickers. Even Yoriichi can't help but chuckle at the reminder.
fujiko is usually all bright grins and kind words, so she gets maudlin when she drinks. when she's tipsy, she's all loose-limbed and lazy smiles. once the world starts spinning a little, and her lips and fingertips are numb, she grows quiet and lost in her thoughts. she's not the most fun when she gets like that, so she does her best to stay in the happy tipsy area where she can still joke around with her friends.
Fujiko doesn't shift her gaze from the cherry blossoms, even when a figure settles next to her. She swirls the sake in her cup and downs it in one.
Yoriichi doesn't speak, although he does give her a glance that holds questions.
It should be a celebration, she thinks. They've defeated an oni that has slaughtered dozens. Even their comrades fell to that creature before Michikatsu sliced his head from his shoulders.
She thinks of the faces of comrades she will never see again.
Finally, Yoriichi says, "You seem tired."
She is. She is so very tired. Her hands ache from swinging a katana, even though it's the only thing she has known since she was a little girl. Like Keichirou, she grew up on a training yard, a bokken familiar in her hands. She remembers chasing her siblings, playing bodyguard and royalty with them.
She always played the guard. She has no more siblings to protect.
Her head bobs on a neck that doesn't want to hold her head. She pulls the tama kanzashi and wisteria tsunami kanzashi from her hair, letting it spill down her back. Her head still feels heavy.
Yoriichi's arm comes around her shoulders. She's too tired to protest when he rests her heavy head on his shoulder.
Keichirou and Michikatsu are raucous in the entertaining room behind them. She can hear it even through the closed shoji. She should be with them, she thinks, but her head is too heavy and Yoriichi is the only thing holding her up right now.
"Sorry," she huffs out. "I think I drank too much."
"You can cry if you want to," he offers
She can. Weakness, her family taught her, is only if you refuse to swing your katana. Emotions are what drives the human body. Tears are a natural consequence.
"I know."
She doesn't want to cry. It's supposed to be a celebration, after all.
She mourns silently anyway. She thinks Yoriichi mourns with her.
now. michikatsu. michikatsu. i'd call him the self-proclaimed braincell of the sengoku squad, but everyone agrees that it's true. that's why it shocks everyone how cuddly he is when he's drunk. it starts with lil touches here and there when he's tipsy, but once his second jug of sake is gone, he's either draped over his chosen victim or sprawled over everyone's laps.
Keichirou and Fujiko shared a look over the rim of their sake cups. Their shoulder shake from the effort of holding back their mirth, but it only leads Yoriichi to give them a baleful stare.
"It isn't funny," he insists.
Oh, it is.
Michikatsu has his face buried in Yoriichi's stomach. The others aren't sure if he's sleeping, but then he shifts to squint up at them.
"Too far," he slurs, then shifts his gangly body so he can dump one leg in each of their laps.
Fujiko lets out an undignified snort before clamping her hands over her mouth. Keichirou grins victoriously, the winner of their silent competition.
Michikatsu rarely drinks enough to get drunk. He has the highest tolerance, and he's usually too busy trying to keep an eye on the others. However, they had run into a few of their fellow Demon Hunters at an izakaya tonight. Fujiko and Keichirou had been too enthralled in their conversations to touch their sake cups much, and Yoriichi typically abstained anyway.
Apparently, Michikatsu had somehow caught himself in a drinking game.
At least he won.
"You're no help," Yoriichi grumbles.
Fujiko smirks. "Not so funny now that the geta is on the other foot, eh?"
He doesn't glower at her, but he does make an attempt to glare. He has such a kind face that it doesn't work very well.
Still, she does take pity, so she pats Michikatsu's ankle and says, "Wouldn't you feel more comfortable sitting with us?"
Michikatsu makes a vague noise and an even vaguer gesture. He makes a half-hearted attempt to sit up, leading Yoriichi to pull him up the rest of the way. This time, Keichirou is the one who barks out a laugh when Michikatsu's arms wind around Yoriichi.
One look and both Fujiko and Keichirou have their heads on the table, failing at holding back their laughter.
seeing yoriichi on the big screen has made me feral, so feel free to ask me anything about sengoku era idiots squad!
