However, due to not knowing how to handle him, Nova was bounced around and eventually, ended up drifting between relatives homes, couch-surfing with friends or simply sleeping on the streets. ● At fifteen, after getting involved with the wrong people, a robbery Nova was a part of went wrong and he was charged with felony murder. They had never had a weapon or touched anyone, but due to their involvement with the original crime, they were charged as an adult and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. ● Nova graduated high school on their own while in juvenile detention and even helped tutor and push other kids to do the same but once he reached eighteen and was transferred to an actual prison, something shifted within them and they gave up on themselves. ● A mentor from Mensa who had known Nova since he was a child refused to give up on him, visiting monthly and attempting to encourage him to continue fighting for the future he'd planned and when Nova was finally released, they used their connection as an alumni of Ogden to get Nova a spot despite their background. ● A sparks seems to have lightened back within Nova; he's brighter than he has been in the past four years, attending classes and excelling as they had been as a child but even they're not entirely sure what they want for their future or if their dream is any longer worth pursuing.

Nova's relationships to Greer seems to exist more on a hypothetical than any reality. Their arrival was meant to be a new and exciting change, a return to the life they were meant to have, one that ended up all but cloaked by the darkness of Greer's missing status. — SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE, REALLY. little lucy averley. their parents were acquaintances, but there was always somewhat of a divide between their respective families. the averleys were somewhat better off than the evans. the averleys had four pretty little girls, all yellow hair and bright smiles. meanwhile, the evans had sickly children and alcoholism running through every vein. despite this, nellie and lucy got on well growing up beside each other. lucy didn't need nellie. lucy had other pretty friends to entertain her. nellie watched lucy grow into her beauty. somewhat awkward limbs were graceful with every movement. she was perfect. meanwhile, nellie was lanky and too tall for most of the men they knew. lucy could have anyone she wanted. but nellie was getting desperate. twenty-three years old and no husband in sight.

eventually, nellie met albert lovett at the fish market. thank goodness for him. there was no love between the couple, but he needed a wife and she needed a husband. he proposed. she accepted. the wedding was simple. she found a nice enough sunday dress to wear. it was brown, as if she was a widow getting remarried. lucy was one of her bridesmaids. she put some rogue on her cheeks and lips. nellie looked almost pretty. the wedding night was more like a handshake. more formal than passionate.

albert moved them to london. he liked her cooking, baking even more. his mother used to own a pie shop. so they set up the business. they were moderately successful. though, that might have been due to albert eating more of the pies than actually selling them. to earn a little more money, they began renting out the rooms above the shop.

that was when he moved in.

benjamin barker. the barber with his brown hair and bright eyes. suddenly, nellie was no so thankful she found a man to settle down with. she wish she waited for mr. barker upstairs. she laughed at each one of his puns and he did the same with her. they were meant for each other, nellie realized. but it couldn’t be until after albert passed that they could be married.

mr. barker was invited to a dance one night. he came home whistling. albert complained. nellie fawned. he told nellie in the morning that he met someone. the girl that he knew he was going to marry. nellie’s whole world crumpled in that moment. whoever this girl was that was taking mr. barker from her, nellie hated her.

she didn’t actually meet the soon-to-be mrs. barker until after the couple was engaged. then, as nellie was hunched over a slab of dough, she heard her name called. upon turning around, she saw her. lucy averley. her best friend. her jealousy. nellie hated her.

lucy asked her to be her maid of honor. maid of honor! that was an even higher ranking than bridesmaid. but nellie stared at her yellow hair, her green eyes, her pale face, the ring on her slender finger … she said no. nellie never wanted to be apart of her life. never wanted lucy at all. obviously hurt, lucy stopped calling her by her first name. it was as if they had never been friends.

at mr. barker’s invitation, the lovetts attended the wedding. they left before the brunch. lucy moved into mr. barker’s apartment. a year into their marriage, the barkers announced they were having a baby. when johanna came into the world, albert complained about the fuss and all the crying. nellie didn’t care. jealousy took control of her. she sat albert down and told him she wanted a baby. they made a few attempts. that ended in sighs, a few tears, and blood. nellie would never get that baby that she wanted so desperately to prove mrs. barker wrong.

then mr. barker was arrested. mrs. barker disappeared one night and returned with a bottle of poison. nellie barely understood what happened, but she had the gist of it. mrs. barker went mad. johanna cried. the judge came back & took the remaining barker women away.

it was just her and albert. until albert’s leg gave out with gout. until albert died one morning.

nellie rolled up her sleeves and continued on. her business was failing. taxes went unpaid.

when benjamin barker returned. not exactly the same man he was before. he was sweeney todd now. but nellie liked sweeney todd even more. he wanted his revenge, she needed her business to improve. plans were made. delicious plans. she took in a small boy called toby. loved him like the child she never had. she made a new life for mr. todd, a new family. yet he never looked her way. he only moped around the house. pining for lucy. nellie understood why he wanted to get johanna back, but in time, she started to hate johanna, too. she was too much like lucy. too much of a distraction. mr. todd had her now. her and toby. it was the new life.

his mrs. barker was still alive, although nellie told mr. todd she swallowed poison. it wasn't really a lie, now, was it? the night the mr. todd finally got his revenge on the judge, was the night he found out the beggar woman was his lucy. in his rage, mr. todd told nellie that he loved her. she was not a stupid woman, but she danced with him. until she was thrown in the oven and burned to death.

— SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE, REALLY. little lucy averley. their parents were acquaintances, but there was always somewhat of a divide between their respective families. the averleys were somewhat better off than the evans. the averleys had four pretty little girls, all yellow hair and bright smiles. meanwhile, the evans had sickly children and alcoholism running through every vein. despite this, nellie and lucy got on well growing up beside each other. lucy didn't need nellie. lucy had other pretty friends to entertain her. nellie watched lucy grow into her beauty. somewhat awkward limbs were graceful with every movement. she was perfect. meanwhile, nellie was lanky and too tall for most of the men they knew. lucy could have anyone she wanted. but nellie was getting desperate. twenty-three years old and no husband in sight.

eventually, nellie met albert lovett at the fish market. thank goodness for him. there was no love between the couple, but he needed a wife and she needed a husband. he proposed. she accepted. the wedding was simple. she found a nice enough sunday dress to wear. it was brown, as if she was a widow getting remarried. lucy was one of her bridesmaids. she put some rogue on her cheeks and lips. nellie looked almost pretty. the wedding night was more like a handshake. more formal than passionate.

albert moved them to london. he liked her cooking, baking even more. his mother used to own a pie shop. so they set up the business. they were moderately successful. though, that might have been due to albert eating more of the pies than actually selling them. to earn a little more money, they began renting out the rooms above the shop.

that was when he moved in.

benjamin barker. the barber with his brown hair and bright eyes. suddenly, nellie was no so thankful she found a man to settle down with. she wish she waited for mr. barker upstairs. she laughed at each one of his puns and he did the same with her. they were meant for each other, nellie realized. but it couldn’t be until after albert passed that they could be married.

mr. barker was invited to a dance one night. he came home whistling. albert complained. nellie fawned. he told nellie in the morning that he met someone. the girl that he knew he was going to marry. nellie’s whole world crumpled in that moment. whoever this girl was that was taking mr. barker from her, nellie hated her.

she didn’t actually meet the soon-to-be mrs. barker until after the couple was engaged. then, as nellie was hunched over a slab of dough, she heard her name called. upon turning around, she saw her. lucy averley. her best friend. her jealousy. nellie hated her.

lucy asked her to be her maid of honor. maid of honor! that was an even higher ranking than bridesmaid. but nellie stared at her yellow hair, her green eyes, her pale face, the ring on her slender finger … she said no. nellie never wanted to be apart of her life. never wanted lucy at all. obviously hurt, lucy stopped calling her by her first name. it was as if they had never been friends.

at mr. barker’s invitation, the lovetts attended the wedding. they left before the brunch. lucy moved into mr. barker’s apartment. a year into their marriage, the barkers announced they were having a baby. when johanna came into the world, albert complained about the fuss and all the crying. nellie didn’t care. jealousy took control of her. she sat albert down and told him she wanted a baby. they made a few attempts. that ended in sighs, a few tears, and blood. nellie would never get that baby that she wanted so desperately to prove mrs. barker wrong.

then mr. barker was arrested. mrs. barker disappeared one night and returned with a bottle of poison. nellie barely understood what happened, but she had the gist of it. mrs. barker went mad. johanna cried. the judge came back & took the remaining barker women away.

it was just her and albert. until albert’s leg gave out with gout. until albert died one morning.

nellie rolled up her sleeves and continued on. her business was failing. taxes went unpaid.

Loghain Mac Tir revealed Katriel as an Orlesian spy to Maric, who in turn killed her without knowing that she had defected to support him. Biography

Katriel served as a bard during the time of the Ferelden Rebellion and was hired by Severan, advisor to King Meghren, to seduce Maric Theirin and orchestrate his capture. Her manipulations led to the slaughter of half of the rebel army. Though she initially intended to follow through with her contract, she developed genuine feelings for Maric and decided to defect and rescued Maric, Rowan, and Loghain.

Katriel confronted Severan to void their contract. Severan was insistant on her fulfilling her duty, but she refused and crippled him with poison to escaped. Unfortunately, Loghain and Rowan had her followed and learned the truth of her association. Katriel knew she was followed but was willing to return to Maric, even if it meant her death. She was torn with the guilt of betraying him; she wanted to confess in person. She also realized that she may not get the chance to do so, so she left a letter for him to find that had her heartfelt confession and regrets along with details on how to defeat Severan.

Before Katriel arrived, Loghain informed Maric of Katriel's betrayal while purposefully neglecting to mention that she had defected. When Katriel came to him, he killed her in a blind rage.

Katriel may have died that day, but she was kept alive in memory by a spirit of love that had taken interest in her and the events that preceded her death. The spirit gradually took on her identity as it watched the world from the Fade. Eventually, there was little discernable from the spirit and the mortal Katriel. When Maric was trapped in the fade, Katriel crafted what she believed would be the perfect dream for him, but he recognized that he was in the Fade and abandoned the dream. She approached him afterward in the raw fade in hope to guide and protect him, and though she begged for him to stay, she also urged him to forgive himself for his death and forget about her when she realized that he could not.

The encounter had a lasting change on Katriel. She'd become too much like a mortal for the fade to be her home anymore. The waking world pulled at her more and more until she decided that she wanted to walk the earth. She travelled for years learning what it was to be mortal, and after some time, she was barely a spirit. The spirit of love cared not for her simple purpose any more. She was now who she wished to be: Katriel. She could not be as she once was, but that did not matter to her. She simply wanted to live.

Important Notes

Katriel's evolution is similar to Cole's if he is made more human. It happens "off-screen" between the events of The Calling and Dragon Age: Origins because I want her to be at a point where she couldn't be immediately recognized as a spirit by the untrained, and that's a good number of years to make this development solid. She retains some magic usage as a spirit that may make some confuse her for a mage, and that is often her cover-story. At this point, she doesn't really recognize herself as a spirit anymore. She knows what she is, yes, but she sees herself as Katriel first and foremost. Because of her decades of developing as a mortal, she understands human complexity in a way that pure spirits cannot, but she cannot see or manipulate the memories and emotions of others as some spirits (like Cole) can. Outside of basic magic, the only power she retains is the power to disappear.

Though she has some usage of magic thanks to her status as a spirit, she focuses on rogue abilities in combat as that is how she was originally trained to fight in life.

She can fit pretty much anywhere in Dragon Age in terms of setting / time period. Let’s go wild.

BIOGRAPHY.

Kaaras is a Vashoth Qunari from Ferelden, who was never brought up under the Qun. His parents left the Qun before he was born (knowing they were pregnant), and only told very little to their son of their origins under the strict religion.

With Tal'Vashoth parents, Kaaras was forced to move around a lot as a child, his parents fearing being hunted down by the Ben-Hassrath. When he was born in Starkhaven, they moved to Ferelden but a day after his birth, feeling they would be safer there and have more protection. Able to take an abandoned farmland as their own, his parents collected a few Ferelden rams and used the small amount of coin they gained from their coats to bring Kaaras up and live off. His father was able to gain extra coin here and there for doing odd jobs, but being in Ferelden, they were subject to heavy racism from the people.

At the age of five, Kaaras came into his magic, and they settled down in Southron Hills, wishing to find someone who may be able to help their son with his newfound gift. Having come into his magic via a public incident at the markets, a Tal'Vashoth mage by the name of Saarebas approached them, convincing them that their son needed to be trained unless he wished to be caught and re-educated or killed by the people. She offered her services to the family, knowing that they could not pay her, save for a roof over her head while she was in the area.

When Kaaras was ten, he ran into a young elven girl (only 7 years old) by the name of Aith from a Dalish clan in the Brecilian Forest. She was torn and beaten, so he took her back home to clean her up. His mother and father soon came home and agreed that she could stay with them until she recovered, having learned that she had been sexually assaulted by Templars on the road after her clan had kicked her out for being a mage. Aith soon became part of the family, though, and a sister to Kaaras. Unofficially, they adopted her and she took on the Adaar name.

At the age of twelve, Kaaras’ temporary home was attacked by bandits, and his father was killed trying to protect him, Aith and his mother. Kaaras became the man of the house, and was determined to hunt down the bandits who attacked his family.

For many years, he suffered serious night terrors due to the trauma and PTSD. Saarebas was the only one who could calm Kaaras down, and she soon saw his potential as a fighter. She offered him a position in the Ash Ataash mercenary group when he turned seventeen (Aith joined with him), where he could put his magic and focus to use.

With the group growing bigger, there were too little jobs in Ferelden, so Kaaras moved with the mercenary group to the Free Marches, where Saarebas' company came in contact with the Ralshokra, a qunari driven company who was more than happy to merge the company in with their own.

During his time with the Ralshokra, Kaaras met Stenn, another qunari who he soon fell in love with. Stenn was like the calm in a storm for the emotional hell that Kaaras suffered being away from his home and blaming himself for his father's death. They soon became a fairytale romance. However, when bad instructions and innocent lives were at stake, Kaaras' trust in the Ralshokra started to shatter. Saarebas died in this incident, and Kaaras decided to leave the company. Stenn stayed, and their relationship was strained, making them part.

Kaaras moved up to Starkhaven and started recruiting more men. He became the captain of the company and they settled there doing mercenary work for the next few years under the title of the Beres-taar (meaning ‘shield’). Kaaras devoted his life to this, to making better decisions, to letting go of his hate and unhappiness. This was his new goal.

The Beres-taar were quick to make a name for themselves, having some of the advantage of former Ralshokra members. Kaaras was a natural born leader, and with the mistakes of the former band he’d been in, he was determined to give his company a good and loyal name for the work they did. This eventually got the attention of nobles in the area, and they earned a decent living.

Eventually, their name was known enough in Starkhaven that they were suggested to aid with protecting the Divine during the peace talks. Kaaras was asked specifically by reputation and having previously worked with the Prince of Starkhaven and nobles. Kaaras’ company themselves were not overly large, but they were hard workers who showed dedication to their jobs. Numbers was a must, however, so Kaaras was fine when he got the news that another band would be accompanying them--the Valo-Kas.

During his travel back through Kirkwall, Kaaras and Stenn reunited, however, things had changed between them, and Kaaras had changed too much as a person to continue a romance. The events at the Conclave happened, and they were separated, Kaaras became the Herald and Stenn remained in Kirkwall.

The Inquisition soon became Kaaras' new priority. During Inquisition, Kaaras learns that he has an older half-brother (from his father's side) named Talan'ash, who ends up betraying the Qun to find him. His mother eventually re-marries, much to Kaaras' dismay, to a Tal'Vashoth named Kos. After Haven, Aith returns home on Kaaras' request to take care of their mother, as Herald/Inquisitor could put her in danger. She helps raise the rams and keeps the farm up and running. She also reports to Kaaras as a middle man so letters are not sent directly home. She visits Skyhold when she can.

PERSONALITY.

Kaaras is a kindhearted and giving man. In many ways, he can be seen as a juxtaposition, enjoying the simple things of his farm-home upbringing to the fanciest of palaces from having worked with nobles. He is protective of the ones he loves, and a merciful enemy. Kaaras is a firm believer in justice and honour, and has the personality of a true knight, however, he can also become extremely moody and is very stubborn. As Inquisitor, he takes his profession seriously and is dedicated to making Thedas a better place and helping those he can.

History:

45 years ago: Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, ashamed that she had to leave her first daughter behind in man’s world, petitions the gods of Olympus to give her another child. They take pity on her, and instruct her to mold the form of a baby girl from clay. Gaea, spirit of the earth itself, imbues this clay figure with a soul, and Hippolyta names the newborn child Diana.

29 years ago: Teenage Diana befriends Troia, another young Amazon who had been adopted by the tribe after washing ashore as a baby.

20 years ago: 

Sensing much trouble and discord in the world of men, the Olympian gods declared that Themyscira should send out an emissary of peace into the world. Hippolyta holds a contest to determine which Amazon would be sent, forbidding Diana to enter. Disguised, Diana enters the competition nonetheless, winning and claiming the uniform her mother had worn decades before her, as well as her Lasso of Truth.

Diana leaves Themyscira, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts, where she is detained by local authorities. The Olympians intervene on her behalf, appearing to her in animal form and granting her abilities beyond those of normal Amazons.

Diana is taken in by Harvard professor Julia Kapatelis, and her daughter Vanessa, and enrolls at the school to learn more about the world.

Diana is attacked by Decay, a minion of Ares, god of war, and the battle spills out onto the streets, garnering her attention from the media, who dub her “Wonder Woman.”

19 years ago: 

Diana foils a plan by Ares and his children, Phobos and Deimos, to cause a nuclear holocaust, using her lasso to convince the god of the error of his ways.

Diana becomes a founding member of the Justice League of America after teaming up with other heroes to repel an alien invasion of Earth.

18 years ago: 

Diana agrees to hire Myndi Mayer as her publicist.

Troia arrives in Boston, taking the moniker of “Wonder Girl.”

Diana gains the attention of Barbara Minerva, the feline femme fatale calling herself the Cheetah. Minerva attacks Diana, attempting to steal the Lasso of Truth. After subduing her, Diana decides to return home to Themyscira.

17 years ago: 

While on Themyscira, Diana is forced to partake in the Challenge of the Gods in order to sate Zeus’s anger for refusing to sleep with him. She fights monsters including the Hydra and Echidna on her way to freeing the imprisoned demigod Heracles.

Diana is first confronted by Valerie Beaudry, the Silver Swan, and Dr. Doris Zuel, alias Giganta.

15 years ago: 

While on a trip to Greece with Vanessa and Julia, Diana is captured by the sorceress Circe, defeating her with the aid of Hermes. 

When Diana returns to Boston, she finds Myndi Mayer dead, victim of a drug overdose.

14 years ago: Themyscira reveals its existence to the world, and the Amazons begin to take a greater part in world affairs.

13 years ago: Vanessa is kidnapped by the diminutive telepath Edgar Cizko, alias Doctor Psycho, beginning his long rivalry with Diana.

11 years ago: Diana, along with the rest of Earth’s superheroes, participates in the fight against the Anti-Monitor.

10 years ago: 

After the Dominator invasion, Cheetah attempts to steal the Lasso of Truth once more, leading Diana to find the lost city of the Bana-Mighdall tribe of Amazons, and their champion, Artemis.

Diana is caught up in a war between the various pantheons of gods on Earth, and is seemingly murdered by Circe during the fighting. With the aid of the Phantom Stranger, she returns to life and defeats Circe, ending the war.

9 years ago: Diana is briefly replaced by Artemis as Wonder Woman after Hippolyta has a vision of her daughter’s death. Artemis dies instead, and Diana reclaims her mantle

8 years ago: 

Diana joins the new incarnation of the Justice League, assembled to combat a team of rogue White Martians.

Vanessa Kapatelis is mutated into the new Silver Swan by Circe, who sets her loose against Diana.

7 years ago: 

Diana re-locates to Gateway City, befriending museum curator Helena Sandsmark and her daughter, Cassandra. Cassandra disguises herself, and using artifacts stolen from Diana’s belongings, helps defeat Morgaine le Fey as the new Wonder Girl.

Themyscira is destroyed by the forces of Imperiex and Brainiac, killing many of the Amazons, including Hippolyta. The survivors relocated to a new Themyscira - a floating island built in the Bermuda Triangle.

5 years ago: 

Diana takes a position as Themyscira’s ambassador to the United Nations, moving to New York City. She publishes a book, titled “Reflections: A Collection of Essays and Speeches,” which makes an enemy out of pharmaceutical tycoon Veronica Cale.

Diana confronts Maxwell Lord, who murdered the Blue Beetle and had Superman under his control, and snaps his neck. Afterwards, seeking internal peace, Diana makes a pilgrimage to Nanda Parbat, leaving her post to Troia.

4 years ago: 

Despite strained relationships with Superman and Batman, Diana joins the newly restructured Justice League.

Diana is placed on trial by the World Court for the murder of Maxwell Lord, with Kate Spencer as her attorney. She is cleared of all charges and returns to the embassy.

3 years ago: Granny Goodness, in the guise of Athena, and Circe, work together, leading an attack on the United States by Themyscira. Diana is forced to fight against her sisters.

2 years ago:

During the Blackest Night crisis, Diana temporarily becomes empowered by the Violet Light of Love, becoming a Star Sapphire.

The resurrected Maxwell Lord enacts a scheme to eliminate Diana from play, trapping her in a prison of her own mind with the aid of Doctor Psycho - all part of a scheme from Nemesis, goddess of revenge. Diana defeats Nemesis and returns to reality.

1 year ago: Diana is attacked by Grail, daughter of Darkseid, who wants the essence of the gods to restore her father to adulthood.

Present day: Diana continues working at the embassy, while also continuing to serve with the Justice League and aiding the Sentinels of Magic against the goddess Hecate.

Commentary:

If Superman embodies hope and Batman embodies justice, Diana embodies compassion. Her existence is almost paradoxical: she’s the most compassionate of the Trinity, but also the most willing to kill when it comes down to it. The New 52 took her character too far in the direction of being a warrior, emphasizing the sword as her main weapon rather than her lasso and bracelets - to the point where her lasso became part of a chainsaw in Death Metal (as badass as that was). This Diana largely rejects that part of her nature, leaning into her status as an ambassador of peace to the world and believing in an open hand rather than a closed fist whenever possible.

This version of Diana is largely based on George Perez and Greg Rucka’s interpretations of the character, although that raises a few issues with regards to the timeline. Since post-Crisis Diana was introduced without any of her prior history, her post-Crisis early career is spread out over several years in this timeline. Certain elements of the post-Flashpoint interpretation of the character are also included, namely her being detained as an illegal alien by immigration officials, and her battle against Grail after this universe’s equivalent of Final Crisis.

This Diana also adheres to her origin according to Perez, rather than Brian Azzarello’s revamped origin that was also used for the live-action film. Diana was originally envisioned as an inherently feminist character, and making her narrative a patriarchal one centered around her heritage as a descendant of Zeus detracts from that. Rather, she’s a daughter of Hippolyta and Gaea, empowered by the female members of the Olympian pantheon (as well as Hermes). Diana doesn’t need a man behind her to be powerful, she just is.

She also doesn’t need a love interest. I have no hatred in my heart for Steve Trevor, but the character works better in the setting of World War II. In this continuity, he’s Hippolyta’s lover who later settles down with Etta Candy after Hippolyta returns to Themyscira. Perhaps a lover is in the cards for her in the near future, however.

Diana’s costume in this canon is the one she currently sports in Rebirth canon. I am shocked that it took so long to give her a battle skirt, given how much sense it makes as a permutation of the classic culottes or leotard look.
