Link Click: 时光代理人
Gonna rant/ ramble obsess about Link Click
I watched the whole two seasons in two days and had to wait 5 minutes for the update for the last episode so i can't image the pain of those who had to wait 2 years for season 2. Hopefully didn't just jinx that
some quick notes that I think are hilarious:
Qian Jin for those who don't know chinese, his characters are 钱进: which means Money, enter (come in).
The anime name ShiGuang DaiLi Ren 【时光代理人】 translates to "time" "On the behalf of" and "person/ people", so the meaning is someone who (sees) manipulates/ alters time (for you).
These are just some random notes about SGDLR/ LC that I have, but most of the ranting will happen below, although it's heavy on the spoilers so I wouldn't read if you haven't seen everything yet.
SPOILERS BELOW
The comment section on crunchyroll has most of the questions i had covered but some things i'm still thinking about:
1. Lu Guang can't fight (we see this in episode 6 + 7 when it's confirmed that Cheng Xiaoshi is the one in his body on the pier). Secondly, he's still recovering from his injury from season 1 finale, but he's out here landing punches and putting daddy Terminator Qiao Jin in choke holds etc etc in the finale. This means that it's likely that's actually Cheng Xiaoshi in Lu Guang's body (again) for that fight.
a. Which brings the question of Lu Guang Diving into the photos at the end of episode 12: did he acquire Cheng XiaoShi's powers (can powers be transferred as shown through Xixi (they call her Xiao Xi actually, but translation said no, just call her XiXi because "little xi" doesn't match syllables or sound as cute/ make as much sense)'s death and Qiao Ling. Maybe TianXi just showed QiaoLing the memories, but I kind of hope the power was transferred to QiaoLing since XiXi is dead (this is true because of the title of the final episode).
b. If this it is true that Lu Guang has Cheng XiaoShi's power to dive he'd be unstoppable with both powers as just him. My friend said as a joke "maybe his hair is white because he's secretly old af from all of the diving he's done." I think though that Lu Guang is probably younger than Cheng XiaoShi because it would be ironic he's technically more mature.
2. this (official art btw) drawing of Qian Jin, the shadow is of Liu Xiao, the eldest brother in the rich family (aka 'Hat Guy')— so perhaps the mastermind behind that family is actually the brother/ Liu Xiao/ Hat Guy, and not Qian Jin.
Tumblr media
a. The brother, Liu Xiao, was also abroad for the past few years and I'm sure that has an important part to play— Im curious what that means for the next season. I have no ideas about it, but I'm intrigued.

the fact that cxs hesitates and even decided against going back in time for lg because of what lg himself taught him, not doing it bc of the moral responsibility he has but purely because he knew that's what lg would've wanted. now compare that to the fact that lg WITHOUT HESITATION JUMPED BACK IN TIME WHEN CXS DIED? the fact that never changing the past was a rule only created BECAUSE lu guang is terrified of the fuck up fucking up his fuck up is just such good writing it makes me want to rewatch every single thing all over

Lu Guang is a hypocrite and that’s okay (great even)
Tumblr media
I must stand ten toes for this man because I’m noticing the slander that went on in September and I cannot allow it. I know I’m six months late but just bear with me. We are introduced to Lu Guang as a rational, stoic, sort of wise protagonist. The brains of the operation if you will (although Cheng is clever in his own right but that’s a whole other discussion). Qiao Ling and Captain Xiao describe him as more mature. Shiguang’s relationship is strong but it’s structured, especially for their work, to where Cheng has to depend on Lu Guang. Should only do as he says and not do anything impulsive.
And it gets to a point where Cheng doesn’t know what to do without him and when LG isn’t there he relies on his past words to guide him. The thing is, we’ve seen that CXS can come up with great plans and make good decisions without Lu Guang’s voice in his head. Like how he caught Min Liu or planning how save Lu Guang from Li Tianchen. But the story has built LG up so much to be a reliable character so it can’t be untrue. But then the s2 finale happens, Cheng gets shot and Lu Guang loses his mind.
Tumblr media
And then the ending basically tells you that he’s been winging it and gambling this whole time. Experimenting with god knows how many timelines, simply using his knowledge from the previous one to see if he’ll get lucky this time. Lu Guang has been playing a crane game. So in a story that is all about mistakes, guilt and regrets. Of showing the imperfections of people. Of showing the struggles of moving forward, of being satisfied with the present. Of sacrificing your sanity, your voice, your desires, and happiness for the people you love. How is this bad writing?
Link click has been tricking the audience to believe Lu Guang is an infallible character.
But Link Click was never about perfect people.
What he’s trying to do is no different from Li Tianchen, one of our antagonists. And I love CXS to fucking pieces but this show raises the question of a life’s value. LG is trying to save Cheng and so refuses to change the past for anyone else. Bc it may alter things and doom CXS in the process and ruin all he’s worked towards. But then you ask yourself, is CXS’s life worth more than the twins' mother? Is it worth more than Chen’s mother? Is it worth more than Emma?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesn’t matter because it is to Lu Guang. It’s like the question if your sibling and a mailman are trapped in a burning building but you can only try to save one. Unless they’re the absolute scum of the earth, chances are and possibly even despite that, you’re going to pick your sibling. That don’t mean it’s objectively more valuable than the mailman or you didn’t have sympathy for that person, they have loved ones, hopes and joys too. “Lu Guang is a hypocrite, selfish, unreliable, and a liar” yes he is. Because there is something called ‘flawed characters’. It’s okay for your protagonist to not be the best person. It’s okay to write a protagonist whose trauma has defined some of their actions.
If you’ve been forced to have someone you love die in your arms over and over, why is it surprising that you would lie to them? How is it surprising that you’d try to keep secrets? That you’d set things up to be in a position to control the situation? That’ll force you to plan better so maybe, just maybe things will be different? You think Lu Guang lacks self awareness and doesn’t know what this makes him? Of all things you can call LG, he’s not delusional. He knows the weight of his actions.
Link Click has and always will be a story about people. Where our emotions and choices take us. Lu Guang isn’t a robot so why would he be an exception?
Plus everyone should’ve been knew Lu Guang was sus anyway. Idk how that’s mischaracterization, there’s proof of him lying and keeping secrets from CXS in s1. It doesn’t ruin anything it recontextualizes what we were shown back then.

Link Click Musical update 130 🎉🌟
(The 100th performance and 2 special encore videos, also I cried from joy and it's not an offtop)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@elaraqwq attended the 100th play, gave away the postcards we made to the audience and SOMEHOW delivered them to the trio actors 😭🧡💙💕 As an absolute legend she is, she sent me the pictures as a proof 🙇‍♂️ So I lost my mind about the loveliness of it all and took a while to chill o7 💝
But enough of that! Lemme tell you abt today's events ✨
Feb 25th, noon performance: Ji Xiaokun, Guo Hongxu, Cai Lu, Guo Zhenyan, Li Zexi
For special encore they did full version of 'You can forget about it' ('Rock, paper, scissors song') but sung is 3 different dialects: from Hebei, Shandong and Shanghai (lowkey foreshadowing).
TW:CXS's dramatic ass once again puts on the noose, so if it makes you uncomfortable, be warned~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you've been listening to this song over and over again (like me), you should be able to hear the difference in pronounciation. It's as if they changed the lyrics completely ><
Tumblr media
Feb 25th, night, the 100th performance: Cai Qi, Wang Minhui, Deng Xianling, Zhang Jiahao, Zhu Jiayan
It's full version of 'As the saying goes' (earthquake arc mom and son quarrel) with Cai Qi in place of Cheng Xiao and Wang Minhui as his mom. Joined by the rest of cast :>
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I called the earlier encore foreshadowing bc (like in dongua) the earthquake arc characters speak in Sichuan dialect (the province where the plot takes place). And despite the role swap Wang Minhui used Sichuan as well.

⬆ @/渲染KL不加糖_瑾家 posted this picture on weibo with caption: 'Chicken run'. And I think it's the funniest joke ever ><

Check the replies for both videos 💙🧡 And I hope you'll have just as good time watching it as I did ^0^

I don’t read the manhua so I only saw these photos out of context and it took me unbelievably long to realize that Lu Guang is zipping up the sleeping bag.
Not…
Ya know…
Just straight up punching Cheng Xiaoshi like I thought…. Really just accepted the fact that Lu Guang decked him because he couldn’t handle looking at him so close ^_^; not full force obviously but still

Harp rants about Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang AGAIN
The dichotomy of Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang in Link Click is, to me, a painful one that I understand both sides of. That I think is so meaningful, and wherever you fall within that dichotomy will tell you a lot about yourself.
The dichotomy
Lu Guang: I love you so much it makes me selfish Cheng Xiaoshi: I love you so much I can be selfless
Both matter. Both are perfectly okay to feel, to accept, to fall into. And what's wonderful about Link Click is that these mindsets both hurt them and heal them, but from what I can tell are never demonized or shown as wrong.
They see each other, even if they don't know all of the other's secrets. They don't need the answer to everything to love their best friend, their partner.
Not to be lame, but it's very much "I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world" (Probably a Song of Achilles quote).
They orbit each other and I truly believe in any universe, any timeline Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang would find each other, not by fate but by sheer force of will. They have been irrevocably changed by each other's presence. There is something found in the other that nothing and no one else could provide.
It's why hands and their clapping is so important throughout the show, why there is so much focus on it. They reach out to each other, a show of vulnerability and trust. Fate isn't grabbing a hand. No, that's choice. That's real love. Through adversity I am with you. Every time I choose you. You are my choice. You are my choice. You are my choice.
I was talking to @fluffy-rulos and I ended up rambling something I think is neat. The vulnerability they show each other is truly "I give you the pieces of me that have been broken, the shards that cut into my hands. You could hurt me, stab me in the back, carve into my heart with them. But I hope you won't. I'll give you my faith and my trust. Know neither are blind." (All from me, baybeee)
Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang show love in different ways, feel it and know it differently, but ultimately it is the intersection of their devotion, their trust, and their dichotomies.
They are juxtaposed, oxymoronic, irrevocably interconnected ideas.
And they are both so, so, so human.

Cheng Xiaoshi always dives blind.
He knows his instructions: deliver the message, find the secret, change nothing. He may even have a rough time frame for when the information can be found. Still, Cheng Xiaoshi never knows what's coming.
But Lu Guang knows. (Spoilers through s2 ep 9 + ep 10 preview)
EDIT: this is a slightly outdated mid S2 analysis. It’s not a terrible read but - my thoughts are always evolving with new info and greater understanding. So if you’ve finished S2, I’ve got a better take :)
Buckle up. Long post. This knowledge has pestered me for two years. Since Emma. I've found ways to chalk it up. Lu Guang just scans the photos, and doesn't see details until they happen; or Lu Guang thinks this will ensure past remains untouched; or Lu Guang is doing this to protect Cheng Xiaoshi.
I've also chalked it up, predominately, to story telling. What fun would there be if Cheng Xiaoshi knew what was going to happen? There would be no surprises! Boooooriiiiiing.
I'm not satisfied with that.
You know, each time Lu Guang withholds information, I find a way to forgive him. That is to say, I feel distrust; a need to forgive him that Cheng Xiaoshi never seems to let linger because of his unyielding faith in Lu Guang.
There are many moments where, if Lu Guang had just told Cheng Xiaoshi what was coming, he could have prevented discomfort and pain.
Exhibit A: Emma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead of telling Cheng Xiaoshi that the situation is going to be okay, that nothing will happen, that her mom is going to call and interrupt. Lu Guang tells him to basically get on with it and then proceeds to lecture him in typical fashion.
"What a great personality," we think sarcastically, having known him for all of 5 minutes.
The scene is played off comically, because what else can Cheng Xiaoshi do? But he's visibly flustered on rescue, and I don't think that has to do with feeling Emma's emotions.
Okay, you say that this is how the writers are narrating the rules. Driving into our heads that the past cannot be changed. Yeah. You're right. How convenient for the writers.
That is not the only moment in this episode where Lu Guang essentially just tells Cheng Xiaoshi to be patient or ignore it instead of giving him the information he needs, but this post will be long enough. And again, we can chalk all those moments up to Lu Guang thinking he knows best (and being wrong).
Episodes 2 and 3 are tame. There are no surprises in the narrative except Cheng Xiaoshi's own mistakes, which cause Lu Guang to be sightless. Nothing to hide until episode 4.
The Earthquake:
Lu Guang makes the call to not tell Cheng Xiaoshi about the earthquake. Gods, I wouldn't either, spare him that pain. But that kindness backfires spectacularly, and the pain dealt is greater than the pain spared.
Does Lu Guang learn a lesson here? He's so careful with Xiaoshi, keeping his distance and not pushing him to do anything he doesn't want.
The next photograph is for DouDou. It's a surveillance footage and Lu Guang's knowledge is limited. Nothing can be done about the mess up. But the next dive is into Doudou. Cheng Xiaoshi smells the ball and looses consciousness. At the start of the photograph, Lu Guang says. "But the whole time, I was unable to get a good look at the human trafficker's face, as well as how she took DouDou away." He warns Cheng Xiaoshi to be careful, and when the ball rolls he declares, "It's here!" before falling silent. He doesn't warn Cheng Xiaoshi about the ball until it's already too late.
Chalk it up. After all we don't know what exactly it is Lu Guang can see in the photograph. Just that he can see 12 hours into it. Maybe he couldn't deduce sniffing the ball would lead to DouDou's abduction? That's reasonable. But how could he miss the ball entirely? Why not warn Cheng Xiaoshi in more detail? Even if Doudou needs to be taken, doesn't Lu Guang trust Cheng Xiaoshi to act? I'm left scratching my head.
For the rest of the season, the lead is predominately taken by Cheng Xiaoshi. Lu Guang is there, but he lets Cheng Xiaoshi have this. He trusts. And for the first time before diving, he warns. Before diving, he warns that Xu Shanshan may not be alive. But he doesn't know the future. And the decision to dive is Cheng Xiaoshi's to make.
Li Tianxi's photo.
Tumblr media
Lu Guang hides the photo. He say's he can't see all the details due to his condition. I'll believe that. Flash back to Lu Guang looking at his phone, like he's trying his power on other, familiar, photographs (before deleting them, I guess, but.....didn't they already do that? Is he trying photos of the present?)
Of course he doesn't tell anyone about the photo. He wants to protect Cheng Xiaoshi. He can't see what it is they'd be diving into.
Of course this is no big deal to Cheng Xiaoshi, because Lu Guang himself has ensured that Cheng Xiaoshi will be a pro at diving blind.
Cheng Xiaoshi makes the call and, by god, if Lu Guang doesn't look exhausted when he agrees.
Lu Guang doesn't even warn him that Li Tianxi is mute. Right out of the gate. Is that really how little he could see? Okay. So we operate with the assumption that, right now, Lu Guang cannot see far in advance. Cheng Xiaoshi stresses, did he mess up? Isn't this a big deal? Lu Guang assures him that he can still see where the are going. Doesn't say where. Okay. That just means the future isn't dark. Lu Guang really can't see ahead right now. That's reasonable. And so we let the rest of the dive go... watching in horror at the events that unfold. Lu Guang apologizing to Cheng Xiaoshi in the photo. That if he could have seen, he wouldn't have let him dive.
Here's the thing. Two(?) nights prior, Lu Guang shows off a pretty bad ass skill. He sees into the security footage of the WHOLE DAMN HOSPITAL. How is that easier, soon after surgery mind you, than quickly scanning the photograph for even a hint of what might happen? (Or maybe Lu Guang can only scan the photograph once, before diving in. And he really couldn't see in that moment with a freshly opened stab wound. Apparently that's my new "chalk it up" theory, as of just now.) Remember, Cheng Xiaoshi doesn't know Lu Guang did that. He thinks Lu Guang was guiding them using live security footage, not becoming the eyes of the whole damn hospital.
When it comes to any present moment between them, Lu Guang is quick to give advice, nagging after Cheng Xiaoshi's behavior like a mother hen. But giving advice about the future? He doesn't do that. Maybe he can't do that.
Maybe no matter how badly Lu Guang wants to shout the future loud and clear, he is being prevented. Maybe it's a rule bound to his power. Maybe it's a rule bound to this "game."
Episode 10 preview. We want answers. We suspect Lu Guang has them. But guess what?
Tumblr media
His lips are sealed. Literally.

Excerpt-
When Cheng Xiaoshi had woken up afraid, he had already forgotten the nightmare. All that he knew was that he wanted his mother.
He stayed very still under the sheets. If there was a monster in his room, they wouldn’t notice him. He kept the blanket drawn over his head, and his breath made his face feel all hot and itchy. He wanted his mother, but leaving the bed felt scary, and also Ling jie said that he was seven years old now, and that meant he needed to stop being such a scaredy-cat. What was he doing, still getting scared by bad dreams? They weren’t real. Snakes and bad grades were real, but nightmares weren’t.
So he curled up in a ball by his pillow and tried to be brave. If he couldn’t see what was outside of his blankets, then there was nothing to be scared of. He didn’t have to run to Mama, and then tomorrow morning he can tell Ling jie that he isn’t afraid of the dark. Then she would stop calling him ‘baby brother,’ which made all the other boys laugh at him. He hated when they laughed at him.
He just needed to go back to sleep.
He needed to sleep and stop imagining dark rooms and glowing eyes and something breathing behind his shoulder. There was nothing behind his shoulder. There was no one else in the room. He did not need to wake up Mama for this. She and Baba were always so busy and looked so tired by the end of the day. They were probably sleeping now, and there was no one else awake in the house.
He cradled his head and squeezed his eyes shut. What would Mama do if she was here? She would pat his head and sing a song until he fell asleep. Cheng Xiaoshi ruffled his own hair and hummed until his eardrums itched. It didn’t help, and now his nose was itching too. He wanted to cry, which was not what Mama would do if she was here, and exactly what he wanted to do because she wasn’t.
All of a sudden, he heard Mama and Baba’s voices downstairs, and now nothing could scare him too much to run after them. He took in a big, deep breath like he was about to go swimming before he leapt out of the bed and ran for the stairs. There was still a dim light on in the sunroom. They were the only ones in the room, but they still whispered. It made them sound afraid.
