[id: two drawings of a turquoise skull. The first is labeled ‘freehand’, and is decent. The second is labeled ‘trace!’ and is much more realistic in both proportion and shading. /end id]
Tried freehanding first, then traced to compare. Fun! Might do this more often and see what patterns emerge of the differences.

Note
I’ve recently embarked on my journey to learn the intricacies of game development. While diving into tutorials, documentation, and hands-on practice, I’ve been contemplating the value of note-taking.
I’d greatly appreciate your insights on whether taking notes during the learning process is beneficial. If so, could you share any recommendations on how to structure or format these notes effectively?
If you are one of those few people blessed with an eidetic/photographic memory, I just want you to know that I am incredibly jealous of you. For everybody else, I absolutely endorse the taking of notes and reviewing things later. It's extremely difficult to remember everything, especially if you're studying something for longer than around thirty minutes. This is just the way our brains work.
Tumblr media
In order for things to transition from our short term memory to long, our brains need time for reflection and repetition. This is why we have players perform variations on the same kind of in-game tasks - it trains them to internalize what they're doing so that it becomes second nature to them. Writing (and later reviewing) notes helps with that reflection and repetition process because it forces you to reflect on what you heard and repeat it in your mind.
Tumblr media
I often keep either a physical notebook or a text editor instance open regularly so that I can write things down that I know I will want to think about later. This might be a link to details about a new task, a particular asset or script I need to change, a location for a document to read, or the name of someone who might know something about what I'm investigating. Taking and reviewing notes is an incredibly helpful habit that will help a lot in just about any career that requires you to remember or learn stuff.

Started doing Godot stuff again. This time I'm putting together 3d game stuff. Not too different from 2D stuff so far, but it was interesting setting up the FPS style camera. Did you know that you want to rotate the collision object for x-direction mouse movement, but only the camera for y-direction mouse movement? Because if you don't do that, it will make weird things happen to the object! Fun!
Also, here's the crosshair I made because I got tired of guessing where my ray casting was happening from for click detection for hitting things.

You can take it if you want, but, like, why?

Things younger me would never have expected from older me:
No kids
Enjoys vinegar, hot sauce, onions (only cooked though, calm down), plain yogurt 🌶️
Thinks there's such a thing as too much sugar
Married to a non-Christian
Not really Christian anymore
Enjoys horror stories (but only in podcasts and certain books, not movies) 🧟‍♀️😱
Has driven drunk (I will not do it again)
Doesn't have a 9-5 job (retail + freelance)
Had premarital sex (little me is scandalized 😳)
Had premarital sex with multiple partners before meeting my husband (little me is SHOCKED TO HER CORE🤯)
Thinks losing your virginity is not that big a deal
Pro-choice
Enjoys working out to the point where missing workouts causes extreme grumpiness 🏃‍♀️
Very up-to-date on politics (unfortunate but necessary)
A morning person who can't hang much past 8 pm ☀️
Married to a jock (it was pale scrawny guys until my mid-twenties) (I was missing out) (the jock can pick me up (and do other things) with ease) 🏋️
Does not view medication as weakness
Huh...can you tell I grew up in a very religious home?

I had a lot of training stuff to achieve today. Turns out that when very heavily caffinated I can achieve a huge amount in a very short space of time. This is in direct contrast to the last four years where I have kept my caffeine consumption to a minimum and have struggled to focus on stuff. This is probably something I should put some thought into, but in true me style I shall simply acknowledge that caffeine works and carry on with life.

Having to wait to block my giant granny squares, so decided to try out Tunisian crochet stitches in a scarf, as my evening crafting for a bit.
The multi-size crochet hook set I bought, because it looked like the most options for the least dollars at the craft store, turns out to be a Tunisian crochet set, though I’ve been using them as normal hooks without attaching the cables.
Tumblr media
I’m really liking how textured the fabric feels, and the different textures on the front and back sides. It will be comfy to wear, when it’s done.
I don’t think I’m holding the hook right, though, because I start feeling fatigue in my knuckles after only a couple rows (~6 inches wide), where I can do many multi-foot rows of standard double-crochet without feeling it in fingers or wrists.

Sorry, I have Things to Do now.
I got a Skill Share account.
Staying off of Tumblr just got so much easier.
Seriously, these guys have classes on everything from copyright law to pumpkin carving.
...
No, that is not an exaggeration.
I'll still be here, but given my choice between blank scrolling past people's filtered-out-by-my-filters political posts and watching people tell me how to up my knitting game*, I'm going to take the latter.
*actual course title

i had a thought of "do people not know what AUs are anymore?" and then i remembered nobody explains fandom stuff to new people anymore so it is entirely plausible people genuinely don't know what AUs are and nobody has explained it to them, so for today's lucky 10,000:
"AU" stands for "Alternate Universe" or "Alternative Universe" (same difference) and is basically any thought scenario for a fandom that isn't canon and can't fit within the canon universe. If it takes place in the canon universe but something is notably different, that is typically what's known as a "Canon divergent AU," because it diverges from canon.
an AU can be absolutely anything. There's a couple of widespread pan-fandom au scenarios that often get thrown around, like coffee shop aus, genderbend aus, hanahaki aus (hanahaki is a whole thing in itself i'd recommend researching on your own), etc. One you might hear sometimes is "crossover AU" which is when you have characters from one fandom interacting with characters from another.
You can have as many aus as you want. They can be whatever you want and you can do whatever you want in them. It's a sandbox for you to play around in and explore how things would be different or how the characters would act in those circumstances or environments. Maybe they have different relationships with each other. Maybe they behave slightly differently. Or you can just say "Okay, [x] is true. How did they get here? How would things have to be different for this to occur?" which can also be fun.
If you are ever confused about why people ship something that seems completely out of the blue or doesn't make sense to you in the canon setting, there's a good chance they like it in an AU setting! Not everything everybody is interacting with is necessarily the canon! Not everybody wants things to exist in canon and just want to explore playing dolls in a different sandbox and that's okay. And their sandbox might look a lot different than yours, and that's also okay. You have the freedom to make your sandbox whatever you please. Do whatever you want forever. Get funky with it. AUs are fun.
Okay that's my schpeal. everybody go have fun and play nice now.
