THE STORY OF PARK'S MARRIAGE CONTRACT
GENRES: Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
SUMMARY: A fashion-forward Joseon fiancee wakes up in the 21st century and tries to make sense of all the familiar faces.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Couture hanboks, wells, terrible mother-in-laws, robot vacuums, choco pies, murder, ill-gotten Joseon artifacts, courtship, redemption, childhood trauma, workplace sabotage, and faulty pacemakers.
HOT TAKE: Really impressed with how easily both Yeon Woo and Sa Wol take to modern life. Within a few weeks, they're scheming, using computers, hailing taxis, and using modern kitchen equipment like pros.
The writers tried so hard to tie the characters in Seoul with their Joseon doppelgängers, but I think they either ran out of time, lost their notes in the process, or just kinda figured we'd be okay with whatever ending they chose as long as it was a happy one.

Again wrong title
Finally the secret is out..no wonder it's haunting him..I would leave the hospital too.
And I though he's talking to her but it's just her imagination..quite long imagination
I don't know where this story goes ..like the main lead keep friendzoning each other especially the girl..the guy just ready to get out of it
But I willing to go on until I can't later if I spot some red flag of not so good ending..😅

#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEK 2023 | March 8th – 15th  2023
[alternatively: a week and one day to talk about and make things for women you appreciate in celebration of International Women’s Day] Inspired by @evansbrewster that’s no longer on Tumblr.com.
@kdramaladies will be hosting the event as well. I’ll reblog where I can and try to be present. Prompts courtesy of @dramaheroine who has dont 99.9999% of getting this week to happen, prompts and more, thanks so much. Gifs courtesy of @cuddlybitch, @haeyeongs and @orangesyellow. Thank you all so so much. Thank you to everyone that checks in about this when I am sure I’ll be sitting it out. KWW has been happening for eight years, this being the ninth which is nuts.
Please tag your posts #kdramawomensweek and/or @undergroundkdrama so they are easier to find, admire, and reblog.
Day 1: In Her Head
Women with rich inner worlds, full of hidden thoughts, desires and fantasies. Are her thoughts being revealed to the viewers in visually exciting ways? Think dream sequences, a touch of magical realism, voiceovers, a cut to a talking head or perhaps weird little animated cells…
Day 2: “It” Girl
2021 was all about Haves and Haves Not x2000. 2022 was the year of women in the legal profession. Tell us which of the characters fitting this year’s trend you have enjoyed the most and why. What made them better than the rest? Or what else do you think has been a popular theme/genre/topic for 2022 dramas? How did women fit into the equation? Here are a few examples: gangsters, “behind the scenes”, school violence, countryside living etc.
Day 3: The Help
Women holding everything together in the background, women who have to do all the dirty work, who do thankless labour regardless of the setting or time period. Servants, secretaries, domestic staff, cleaners, nurses, nannies, care workers, housewives…Let’s put some time aside to ‘celebrate those who don’t celebrate’ because they are too busy keeping things running.
Day 4: Bad Girls Club
Everyone loves an angst filled, angry revenge drama so lets talk about the women who seek revenge? Women who hold grudges and whose hearts are filled with rage. Women who hurt others (knowingly and unknowingly). Women who seek power over others and/or themselves in cruel ways. A day for celebrating women’s wrongs.
Day 5: Recommend Her!
Choose your fave – give us a Top 10 that you think she’d make e.g. Spotify Wrapped, her 2023 reading list, her watchlist. Personally, I think that Lee Yeo Reum from Summer Strike listens to a playlist like this (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3yrqVOEnwQG4z8czX8qD4k?si=36e45bbaeaad4892) as she walks around the village trying to make sense of who she is and what she wants. Today’s a day for projecting and recommending. Sneak your recs in here.
Day 6: Funny Girl Woman
We know women are funny, here’s your time to show love to the actresses who predominately act in comedies, female characters who you find hilarious and actresses who provide the perfect comedic relief every time they pop up onscreen.
Day 7: Lee Yoon Jung/Noh Hee Kyung OR Surprise!
Two pioneering women behind many of our classic favourite dramas. Think of this as a space for tributes to them, what you love about their dramas, Lee Yoon Jung’s direction, Noh Hee Kyung’s writing, your favourite female characters from their dramas… OR  Your favourite cameos by actresses! Who used their tiny bit of screen time in the best way possible?!
Day 8: Timeslip
What if time travel really existed? What if two female characters from different dramas, from different tv eras could meet? How are they connected? Why should they meet? Think of this as an opportunity for you to travel back in time.
Please also feel free to be inspired by the prompts from previous years (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2020 Part Deux, 2021, 2022).

Summer Strike: My Life is Sufficient
Tumblr media
Summer Strike (2022) was too rushed, IMHO. Small and peaceful town, but with a killer in their midst. There's enough material to expound on that.
Even Ahn Dae-boom's moment at the billiard hall was too short. Hey, the guy just processed a traumatic memory, okay? Why cut it short? He was still crying, for f's sake!
There were colorful side characters with their own interesting stories to tell as well. The leads didn't have that much time for romance, either.
They rushed the "healing" troupe too, but I like how they ended it with both leads staying in the small town of Angok. They're content with their simple lives, even if they could accomplish more in Seoul.
“I thought about what happiness is. I looked it up in the dictionary. Happiness is a state of bring pleased, fulfilled, and content in life. I found that definition to be too long, so I decided to make it shorter. Happiness. The state of being sufficient.” “I haven’t quite figured out how I should go on, but my life is sufficient. Let’s live this life.” – Lee Yeo-reum
Sufficient is now my new bias versus contentment. Being content is always subjective, but as long as there is sufficiency, we're good.
Sufficient it is!

What I'm watching
Summer Strike 1-5: I went into Summer Strike to compare it with Welcome to Samdal-ri, and found it so contrasting it borders on symmetry. Unlike Samdal, Yeo-reum, our heroine, is so anonymous that her mother's death feels like it never happened, this catastrophe barely puncturing the routine of her corporate grind. And Yeo-reum is a stranger to Andok, the sleepy seaside town she retires to as she tries to cherish time in her life again. There's fun perspective switching in the early episodes. Yeo-reum wanders through Andok with hazy whimsy, blossoms in the air, the sea; but the townsfolk are grounded in very specific interiors as they discuss and negotiate her place in their town. Already, without her even knowing, they've fitted her into the politics of their small world. Yeo-reum runs away to Andok to get her time back and she's very lucky that she can do that, because others are desperate to leave for Seoul. The synergy between Seoul and Andok is very real, and more nuanced than anything WTS tried to pull. Success isn't guaranteed in Seoul, peace isn't guaranteed in Andok, & happiness isn't guaranteed in either. Bom, the high-schooler she meets, needs an escape - her poverty and dysfunctional family feel magnified by Andok's smallness and the intense judgement of its people. Bom and Yeo-reum's sisterhood is so touching, and it wouldn't happen if Yeo-reum wasn't an outsider, wasn't presenting a vision of an adulthood not defined by desperation. I love them so much 🥹 The direction and performances are brilliant, especially Shin Eun-soo (Bom) and Park Ye-young (Ji-young).
No Gain No Love 1-4: Cannot believe how fun this show is. It hits its emotional beats with surprising effectiveness - I was seriously moved by the wedding, where Hae-young's foster siblings visit (and mourn) her mom, who can't remember them. And I vibe with its humour so much its almost embarrassing. Hae-young and her sisters are the perfect trio. People were lamenting pairing The Shin Min-ah with Kim Young-dae (very valid), & I was sure I'd enjoy the secondary couple more (with my fav Lee Sang-yi) - but that has not been the case! Kim Young-dae has outgrown the stiltedness that plagues these pretty boy actors, and his chemistry with Shin Min-ah is palpable. It helps that the show isn't afraid of sex and Hae-young is an assertive adult woman who knows exactly what she wants. NGNL isnt deep but its very honest and true to itself. I'd forgotten that you could write a romcom with characters that felt "real".
Perfect Family 1-6: My Sky Castle parents are back!! Kim Byung-chul & Yoon Se-ah have the most striking, photographable faces, which makes them the perfect pair for a gorgeously directed slow-burn thriller about two parents nestled in secrets, a mystery to their increasingly paranoid daughter. It's very slow moving so far, building up tension + expectations - I'm hoping what it's building up to is worth it. But I'm enjoying the slow-burn so far.
Beauty and Mr Romantic 1-40:
Tumblr media
loll but in all seriousness, I've enjoyed my (re)discovery of charming Im Soo-hyang (which led me to check out My ID, one of the best things I've watched this year); I've enjoyed chatting abt it w/ the lovely people on Dramabeans, I've enjoyed the weekend check-in on this show's insanity. So it's not like I'm not having fun, but this show really, really, really doesn't want to be liked. I'm sure writer-nim is doing this on purpose - psychos outnumber sensible characters 6:1, and the writing goes out of its way to be as mean and low as possible. I never expected much from it, but there was a point where it was cute, and now it just seems determined to sink itself on its own aimless cynicism.

Siwan's latest drama titled "Summer Strike" will premiere this coming November 21!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For anyone curious about the plot, here's a synopsis from asianwiki:
Lee Yeo-Reum (Seol Hyun) makes the decision to live a complete different life from before and not do anything. She quits her job and moves to a small village, where everything is strange to her. There, she meets the residents, including An Dae-Beom (Im Si-Wan), and gets to know them. An Dae-Beom works as a librarian. He hardly talks to people, but, when he does, he talks with a stutter. Somehow he gets comfortable and happy being with Lee Yeo-Reum.
We are basically getting an introverted librarian Siwan!
