History Made | Michael Schumacher daughter fic
The Hockenheimring circuit in Germany was alive with the symphony of roaring engines, and at its center stood Lena Schumacher, the daughter of the legendary Michael Schumacher, on the verge of making history. The German Grand Prix wasn’t merely a race; it was a homecoming for Lena, carrying the weight of expectations as she aimed to redefine the narrative in her rookie season with Mercedes.
In the Mercedes garage, the air hummed with anticipation. Lena navigated the iconic track with finesse, finding herself at the forefront of the race. Unbeknownst to her, Michael Schumacher, her father, made his first public outing since his accident, orchestrating a surprise visit to witness this pivotal moment. Mick Schumacher, her brother and reserve driver for the team, observed with a mix of pride and sibling camaraderie.
As the final laps unfolded, Lena maintained her lead, the Mercedes team holding their collective breath. In a historic moment, Lena Schumacher crossed the finish line, becoming the first woman in history to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
As the checkered flag waved at Hockenheim, the Mercedes garage erupted in cheers and jubilation. Over the radio, Lena Schumacher's race engineer conveyed the historic news.
"Congratulations, Lena! You've just made history! You're the first woman to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix!"
"Wait, what? Did you say… history? Oh my... I... I can't believe it!" Lena said, her voice slightly cracking with emotion.
Amidst the roar of the engines and the celebration in the garage, Lena's voice over the radio reflected a mix of disbelief and overwhelming joy. The realization of her achievement, the weight of making history, echoed through the airwaves.
“You did it, Lena! Enjoy the moment, you've earned it!” said Toto Wolff, so proud of his driver.
"Thank you, thank you so much. This is... this is incredible. I couldn't have done it without the team and everyone's support. Wow." said Lena, her voice getting steadier.
The radio communication captured a poignant moment in Lena's journey, the raw emotion of achieving something extraordinary evident in her voice. The message of breaking barriers and making history reverberated not only within the Mercedes team but also through the hearts of fans worldwide.
Unseen by Lena, Michael Schumacher emerged, his presence a surprise for his daughter. Mick, among the first to congratulate her, shared a smile that spoke of both sibling rivalry and familial pride.
Lena brought her victorious Mercedes to a stop, the cheers and applause echoing through the air. As she stepped out of her car, she was greeted by the presence of her father, now using a wheelchair due to the lasting effects of his accident. Corinna, her mom, and Gina, Lena's sister, were also there with Mick, forming a family circle.
"You did it, Lena. The first woman to win a Grand Prix. I couldn't be prouder," Michael said, his eyes reflecting the joy only a father could feel.
As the Mercedes team joined the celebration, Lewis Hamilton, Lena's teammate, approached with a wide grin. "Congratulations, Lena. You've made history today!"
The emotional reunion and the historic victory became the focal point of the post-race celebrations. Lena, still absorbing the magnitude of her achievement, stood atop the podium. The German and Mercedes flags waved proudly. The national anthem played, marking not just a victory but a symbolic triumph for diversity and inclusion in Formula 1.
In an extraordinary 1-2 finish for Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton secured the second position. The podium celebration was a testament to the team's dominance and the groundbreaking achievements of Lena Schumacher.
Post-Race Interviews:
Lena Schumacher:
Interviewer: Lena, congratulations on an incredible victory. How does it feel to be the first woman in history to win a Grand Prix?
Lena: It's surreal, honestly. This is not just my victory; it's a victory for every person who has dared to dream beyond the conventional norms. I'm honored to be part of a sport that is evolving and embracing diversity.
Michael Schumacher:
Interviewer: Michael, your first public appearance in years, and it's to witness your daughter make history. What does this moment mean to you?
Michael: It's indescribable. Lena has a spirit that mirrors the essence of racing. To see her achieve this milestone, especially in Germany, is incredibly special. I'm a proud father today.
Lewis Hamilton:
Interviewer: Lewis, Lena has made history today. How do you feel about her achievement?
Lewis: It's fantastic. Lena drove phenomenally today. This sport is about breaking barriers, and she's done just that. I'm honored to be her teammate and witness this historic moment.
Mick Schumacher:
Interviewer: Mick, what's it like to see your sister achieve such a milestone?
Mick: It's amazing. Lena's always been competitive, and today she's shown the world what she's capable of. Our family has a strong connection to this sport, and today is a testament to that legacy.
Toto Wolff (Mercedes Team Principal) Reaction:
Interviewer: Toto, a historic win for Mercedes and Lena Schumacher today. What are your thoughts on this achievement?
Toto: It’s an incredible day for the team. Lena’s win is not just a milestone for her but for the entire sport. Michael’s surprise visit added an emotional layer to this victory. We are a family here at Mercedes, and today, we celebrate history being made on our home turf. Lena drove with exceptional skill, and we couldn’t be prouder.
After the historic win at Hockenheim, Lena Schumacher found herself surrounded by a sea of congratulatory faces in the bustling paddock. Among the well-wishers were her fellow drivers, each expressing their admiration for the groundbreaking victory.
Sebastian approached her to congratulate her. "Lena, my goddaughter, you've just made history. I couldn't be prouder. Your driving was exceptional out there.”
"Thanks, Seb. It means a lot, especially coming from you." Then, more drivers started coming over to offer there congratulations.
"Lena, that was one heck of a race! You've set a new standard out here."
"Thanks, Max. I had a feeling this was going to be a special day."
Charles Leclerc, his usual calm demeanor replaced by genuine excitement, joined the conversation.
"Lena, that win was incredible! You've inspired a lot of people today."
"Thanks, Charles. It's surreal, but I'm glad to be part of something bigger."
Fernando Alonso, with a grin on his face, added his voice to the chorus of congratulations.
"Lena, you've made history. This is a day to remember."
"Thanks, Fernando. I just did what I love, and it turned out to be something special."
As the drivers continued to share their words of praise and encouragement, the paddock buzzed with the genuine camaraderie and respect that existed among these competitors. Lena Schumacher's victory wasn't just a triumph for her; it was a celebration embraced by the entire Formula 1 community.
Ah this is my first time writing something, I hope it’s okay. If anyone has any tips please let me know! I hope you enjoyed and it wasn’t a total mess.

The Wiz (1978)
Tumblr media
There have been many sequel, prequels and retellings of L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz and obviously. The best is the 1939 Judy Garland version. Coming in second place is The Wiz. This sounds like faint praise, but there’s a lot to like in this all-black musical retelling.
Based on the stageplay of the same name, Dorothy Gale (Diana Ross) is a 24-year-old teacher who is whisked away to the urban fantasyland of Oz. Determined to make her way back home by meeting with the powerful and mysterious Wiz (Richard Pryor), she travels along the yellow brick road. Along the way, she encounters a Scarecrow in need of a brain (Michael Jackson), a Tin Man in need of a heart (Nipsey Russell) and a cowardly lion (Ted Ross).
The Wiz proves you can get away with a lot if you bring something new to the equation, put a genuine artistic spin on previously-established characters and legitimize your casting choice by saying something. More than a colour-swapped version of Wizard of Oz, this iteration smartly incorporates topics unique to Black culture in its narrative. When we first meet the Scarecrow, he’s articulate and stuffed with newspaper clippings (instead of straw). He has the makings of an intellectual, but a gang of crows keeps him down by repeating over and over that reading books is for suckers. Similarly, the Cowardly Lion is shown to be perfectly capable of defending his newfound friends when they’re in peril, but is also effortlessly swayed by drugs and easy women. In the settings, costumes, dance numbers and songs, this film discovers many ways to say something about the joys and trials of being Black and living in New York without beating you over the head with its message. I’ll go so far as to call it brilliant.
With that said, there’s a reason this is the #2 adaptation. The songs are ok, but not all that memorable. More than once, numbers either go on for too long or add nothing to the story. The film's antagonist, the Wicked Witch of the West (Mabel King), only appears (briefly) in two scenes. This, combined with the casting of Diana Ross makes the whole quest through Oz feel strange. You can believe a little kid would want to return home but what does the real world offer a grown woman compared to this magnificently coloured land of fantasy and wonder?
Even if you’ve never seen 1939’s The Wizard of Oz (one of the greatest films ever made), The Wiz has a few too many, unnecessary songs, it’s a bit too in love with its musical dance numbers and the performances range from great to only ok. What it does well, however is so good you can easily overlook the flaws. The costumes, the imaginative sets, the reinterpretation of a classic work make it a film worth seeking out. (On Blu-ray, July 7, 2018)

If you're going to school and you see some kid being picked on don't be a bystander, do something. you don't have to fight the kid, but it's worth getting suspended for standing up for the right things. don't let this violence become normal. we can help change the violence going on in the world, we need to respect the good cops and stop making their jobs even harder. Change might not happen right away but every little bit helps. don't believe everything you hear right away, do research. even just making a few posts helps

THE WIZ Review - **½
THE WIZ Review – **½
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“WOW!,” it says. But WOW! I did not say.
NOTE: This is not a new review. It was originally published on social media on March 26, 2017.
The history of Oz on film is a long, strange, and rather sad one. Yes, the 1939 film is a beloved classic, but for that one success there are several conspicuous failures: Larry Semon’s infamous 1925 version, Disney’s aborted Rainbow Road to Ozproject, the…

The Spirit of SPARKLE By Constance Cherise
Tumblr media
A precursor to the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, SPARKLE (‘76), a film about three young Black sisters in late-1950s Harlem with dreams of stardom, is commonly believed to be loosely based on the story of The Supremes (rest easy Mary Wilson). Like THE WIZ (‘78), initially, SPARKLE did not do well in the box office, and like THE WIZ, it also became a classic Black film garnering fan loyalty. If the sizzling 1992 rendition of “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” by En Vogue wasn’t proof enough of its endurance, the 2012 remake of SPARKLE (tragically Whitney Houston's final film) should be sufficient evidence.
Directed by Sam O’Steen, with music by ‘70s producer extraordinaire Curtis Mayfield, SPARKLE shares notable ties to classic film. One of its screenwriters, Joel Schumacher, whose extensive portfolio includes the film adaptation of THE WIZ, noted Billy Wilder as his favorite director. In a 2010 interview, Schumacher recalled a mischievous youth, watching black-and-white films in a theater near his home. “I was watching the Golden Era of Hollywood...watching Elia Kazan and John Ford and Alfred Hitchcock, I could go on…” Schumacher stated. Although Robert Stigwood is not credited on screen as the producer, the film was made under the banner of his production company. The all-around entertainment impresario, called by Newsweek “the Ziegfeld of the disco age,” also released the everlasting SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (‘77), GREASE (‘78) and SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (‘78).
Tumblr media
Another Classic Hollywood tie is Lonette McKee, who portrays Sister. McKee had her breakout role in 1983 as the first mixed-race woman to portray Julie, starring alongside Donald O’Connor, in her Tony-nominated performance of the Broadway musical Showboat. The character was previously depicted by white actresses, most famously Ava Gardner, who won the role over her best friend Lena Horne in MGM’s 1951 film. The decision was made by the studio due to Horne’s race, which she maintained cut her deeply. If you haven’t seen Horne’s rendition of “Can't Help Lovin’ Dat Man,” in TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY (1946), watch it and you will understand Horne’s justified frustration.
Although SPARKLE is a story about three sisters—Sparkle, Sister and Delores—and their short-lived rise to fame, the catalyst of the tension in the story truly begins with Sister (McKee). Well aware of her unique beauty, she becomes involved with Satin (Tony King), whose focused attention towards her further inflates her ego cause her to not see him for who he truly is: an abuser and gangster. He openly engages Sister with another woman at his side, and Sister witnesses him punch this woman in the stomach and pull the fur coat from her back. Yet Sister’s reaction seems to be more of excited intrigue. In that moment of silent acceptance, she seals her fate. Not only is it apparent this cannot possibly end well, the resulting repercussions on her and those who truly love her soon come into grave focus.
Tumblr media
In the scene where Satin is introduced to Effie (Tony Award-winning Mary Alice), the mother of the three hopeful sisters, and sits beside her, Effie’s expressionless glare takes over, all her years of wisdom instantaneously coming to the surface. Everything Satin is flashes in Effie’s eyes. Instinctively, Effie knows – and Satin knows she knows – that Sister is headed in the wrong direction. When Effie arrives backstage to congratulate her daughters after a successful show, she straight-talks Sister, cradling her face, looking into her eyes almost as a lover. With precise articulation, she tries to ensure her daughter comprehends her words of wisdom.
“I’ve lived in Harlem all my life. I do know a rat when I see one.”
Considering Effie’s domestic employment, when her white employer notices her sullen mood and states that she hopes Effie considers her “enough of a friend to confide in,” there are multiple takeaways. We can conclude that Effie’s employer is wholly oblivious to her authentic identity and her role as a maid, and we get a snapshot of Effie’s sacrifice for her daughters. Powerfully poignant, Alice's performance embodies a silent strength present in many of her performances. As she quietly endures the deconstruction of her family, you have to wonder about the substantial weight she holds within.
A youthful Phillip Michael Thomas is as gorgeous and equally as captivating in SPARKLE as he was during his days of palm trees, Miami pastels and pink flamingos, portraying the character Ricardo Tubbs in the TV series Miami Vice. Although the film’s main characters are all beautiful women, you simply cannot take your eyes away from him; when Thomas is in the scene, he steals it every time.
Tumblr media
Most famous for her role as Coco in the film FAME (’80), which caused a measurable rise in attendance at performing arts schools internationally, Irene Cara’s career began at the tender age of 3. She was only 13 years old when she played Sparkle, but her performance is so spectacular, she competently rivals her elder co-stars. In a role that could easily escalate to excessiveness, Cara underplays. Her scene with Thomas, after a funeral, is a perfect example. Years in the entertainment industry expertly result in a stellar performance.
With a time-capsule quality much like other Stigwood films, SPARKLE seems like two separate yet cohesive stories – a tragedy that is unexpectedly a comforting diversion. In the end, the abiding spirit of SPARKLE satisfies.

Press Release:
Showrunners is organized by Sean MacAlister and Adam Revington, and features works by eleven artists and one curator, most of whom have been involved in running exhibition projects. One of the artists operates under a pseudonym, u, which was born out of a space called 67 Steps in Los Angeles. In 2019 u opened a gallery in Calgary called u’s.
For Showrunners, u will present six examples from an ongoing series of sculptural collaborations called ‘project spaces.’ The project spaces begin as small box-like forms made from clear packing tape that, when worked on by artists and curators, can act as thresholds into more expansive conversations on how identity is signaled through exhibition making. As the project spaces amass into an archive, they create a record of collaborations and conversations that unfold casually, on an intimate scale, alongside other works.
Gina Folly (b. 1983, Zurich, Switzerland) lives and works in Basel. Since 2013 Folly has been running the artist space called Taylor Macklin, Zurich, together with Selina Grüter and Michèle Graf. Selected solo exhibitions include KURA, Milan; Hard Hat, Geneva; Studioli, Rome; Ginerva Gabino, Cologne; Almanac, London; Tunnel Tunnel, Lausanne; SPREEZ, Munich; Ermes-Ermes, Rome; Space Is The Place, Basel; and S.A.L.T.S., Birsfelden. Selected group shows include Contemporary Art Centre, Riga; Swiss Institute, New York; Museion, Bolzano; Galerie Nagel Draxler, Cologne; Freedman Fitzpatrick, Paris; Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv; Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne; Galerie Bernhard, Zurich; Ginevra Gambino, Cologne; Freymond-Guth Fine Arts, Basel; Le Doc, Paris; and Art Bärtschi & Cie, Geneva.
Peter Friel (b. 1990, Chicago, Illinois) lives and works in Chicago. Friel has held recent solo exhibitions at forgo, Berlin and Bonny Poon, Paris. Recent group exhibitions include Ginerva Gambino, Cologne; Commercial Street, Los Angeles; Zwinglisalon, Berlin; Bonny Poon, Paris; and Galerie Bernhard, Zurich.
Lina Viste Grønli (b. 1976, Bergen, Norway) lives and works in Somerville. In addition to her public art work, Grønli has exhibited at several contemporary art spaces internationally during the last ten years, including Sculpture Center, New York; Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; Wiels Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels; Henie Onstad Art Centre, Bærum; and List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge.

Eli Kerr (b. 1988, Regina, Canada) is a curator and writer based in Montreal and Toronto. Since 2014 Kerr has been invested in notions of ‘the alternative’ for its practical affordances as a mode to explore exhibition practices and intimately engage in artists’ ideas. Between 2014-2019 Kerr organized over 20 exhibitions in Montreal through various alternative contexts. In 2016 with Daphné Boxer he co-founded VIE D’ANGE, an experimental exhibition space. His writing has decidedly existed as contributions to artists’ exhibitions and projects. Kerr completed curatorial residencies at International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) New York in 2017, as well as Rupert in Vilnius Lithuania (2018). He was awarded the 2019 Hnatyshyn Foundation-Fogo Island Arts Young Curator Residency for Canadian curators under 30, and is currently completing his graduate studies in Curatorial Studies at the University of Toronto.

Recent solo exhibitions include The Loon, Toronto; Main Street, Toronto; Support, London, Ontario. Group exhibitions include: u’s, Calgary; Vie D’ange, Montreal; Macfarlane, Los Angeles; Green River Project, New York.
Louise Sartor (b. 1988, Paris, France) lives and works in Rome. Between 2013 and 2015 Sartor co-directed the project space Shanaynay, Paris. She also runs Cocotte, a nomadic curatorial project.
