Vamff's cracking on to Day Four; lots of frocky arty treats peppered across the weekend. At Stonnington's traditional High Tea this arvo some of my fave brands trotted out their winter collections while we tucked into blue puffs (hilarious for fingers and lips), metallic macarons and vanilla stuff in tiny pots. Among my first loves were Lisa Barron's split sleeve tux jacket (and I bought one), Megan Park's slumped floral silk maxi, Luxe Deluxe's feather-print silks, practically everything from Diida, and a pod of knockout leather coordinates from Once Was. Thanks Womens Weekly for another triff kneezup, and to TV chef Karen Martini and VAMFF CEO Graeme Lewsey for graciously agreeing, once they stopped chortling, to pose for a battery of iphones as Couple of the month, i.e.; Queen of Moomba + King of Fashion. melbourne fashion festival: leona edmiston

though i know you've been just as bereaved as i at the loss of japan fashion week in tokyo this season, there are several others to keep us occupied over the coming days, including the lovely melbourne fashion festival (which, as i remember from last year, seemed to last several weeks on end, thanks to the wealth of australian fashion designers).  first up among them is leona edmiston, with her sophisticated ladies for the fall 2011 season. 

slightly gothic widows were the theme for the range, albeit ones with a rich fashion sense (and sense of humour) as well as bank accounts, slinging their grief along casually as their 1980's madonna references--italianate florals, rosaries, fringe, giant black sunglasses, and lacy veils. 

though in fashionising's review, they see a peculiarly somber bleakness, trying to encourage us with a "The key thing to note here is styling. The florals could easily transcend from wake to winter garden party through a subtle shift in accessorising," i have a hard time agreeing.  sure, there is a lightly macabre quality running throughout, but given that we've seen it in a lot of shows, i'm not sure wearing it similarly to how it was actually presented feels wrong (or, conversely, too dark for most). 

no, this is a woman not unhappy with her newfound freedom; as she slinks kittenishly along in those dresses that expose some chest and gams,  with a fetching swing of her rosary in tune with the portishead song 'glory box' (in itself a rather seductive little ditty), we have to wonder whether she might have actually had a hand in it...after all, who is that strapping young chap she's sidling up to at the wake?  and why not?  after all, that dress sure does look good...
