Sometimes I go down the little rabbit hole of thinking about cross-species troubles in the Ben 10 universe. Kinecelerans struggling through off planetary treaties because they look ridiculous trying to sit in a chair made for a Human / Tetramand body plan. A Lepidopterran struggling to follow gendered customs because they have three sexes and they have no idea where their’s translates to on a m/f spectrum. Loboans first establishing relations with Thep Khufans and offering food because its a gesture of goodwill on Luna Lobo but the Thep Khufans have no idea what they’re looking at because they photosynthesize. Pyronite ambassadors finding out the second species stocked up on fire extinguishers and reminding themselves to not be hurt by that because they know it’s a reasonable precaution for a first meeting but nonetheless it’s disrespectful on Pyros to imply one can’t control their fire.

Since I already drew Grey Matter, Way Big and Goop, I’d be so inconsiderate of me not to draw Stinkfly, one of my favorites from the original series. ^_^<3<3<3

Kevin Levin, with mutations for all of Ben's original ten aliens, plus Kevin 11 with some new details:

Diamondhead arm has cracks resembling Ghostfreak's markings.

Heatblast arm rocks are shaped to resemble Upgrade's patterns.

Stinkfly's wings emerge from Diamondhead back spikes.

XLR8's tail ends with Stinkfly stinger, which holds Ripjaws fins for when it merges with XLR8 colored Ripjaws "loincloth".

Wildmutt arms have Ripjaws fins and hand webbing.

Can deploy Ghostfreak chest tentacles, now colored like Upgrade.

Four Arms eyes on shortened Stinkfly stalks.

Ghostfreak pattern is now on the head, connected to Grey Matter eye, which has a smaller, diamond-shaped pupil in a merging with Ghostfreak's eye.

To run at high speeds, fireballs are created under toes with Heatblast's powers. This results in the Four Arms legs getting positioned in a way that resembles XLR8.

Can generate XLR8's face mask using Diamondhead crystals and Heatblast rocks.

these are designs i've been working on for months, my own take on the negative 10! based on derrick's statements:

this art is just to get the designs across, they'll receive finalized art in the future

Here's some information about them. They're not what you'd expect from a villain team, they're actually very friendly toward each other and bond a lot, they aren't any threatening or controlling to each other, to others however, they very much are. Now as for information for each of the members shown here:

-Arrash is indeed not the leader but rather co-leader like how Derrick planned, same with him looking like a poison frog, obviously the tech guy of the group. I didn't know any crew member that didn't already have a Galvan named after 'em so i named him after a popular fan artist instead, O. R. Ash.

-Su'korch is the actual leader of the team cuz why not, i just thought it'd be fitting. He's also previously worked for Vilgax and his main goal is to find his body and bring him back.

-Nanitha, she's a bit of a hothead and is super good friends with Arrash, often working side-by-side with hims.

-Spook'omi is supposed to be a subversion of expectations, being shy and not at all evil, she's only in the Negative 10 to get revenge on Ben for killing the leader of their species, Zs'Skayr. she's actually inspired on komi-san lol

-Conidas, i actually had the idea to bring in the Piscciss Volann prisoner as being part of the Negative 10, so this was the previous one before he got replaced due to being captured by the Plumbers, maybe the prisoner joined because Conidas was his brother and he wanted to get back at them in a way. Since Patelliday was named after patellidae, i named him after conidae.

-Gevaudan, they're supposed to be technologically enhanced yes, heavily inspired on and even named after the Beast of Gevaudan, the design is specifically based on the version of it from the movie Brotherhood of the Wolf where it's just a heavily armored wolf(?). -Golp has a bit of a wrester-like personality, aswell as the one behind Gar Redwind's missing hand arm and missing eye, he's a highly wanted criminal. -R-CHRe is overconfident, extremely egotistical, and playful with her enemies she used to be a showwoman, but gave up on that life style, but is considering returning to it. -Shinite is very ninja-like, often using her body to reflect light to blind her enemies, she has beef with Tetrax for the destruction of their planet, having previously trusted him and being a good friend of his prior to her destruction along with Petropia, ever since it and all Petrosapiens were restored, she's been training to hunt him down and kill him. -Lymph is a single mother with no conditions to take of her children, so she joined the Negative 10 to get any support possible.

Out of left field but I’ve been thinking about alien eyes and specifically unique aliens eyes and how Ben 10 is sorely lacking in variety.

So I’ve been thinking about one of the sets of eyes that comes prepackaged with some special detail; lepidopterran eyes.

Starting off with the obvious, let’s talk about those stalk eyes though-

Between snails and crabs (and all the little creatures in between), eye stalks are very good at looking around when you either have no neck or have a very energy inefficient equivalent, but sometimes the sight itself isn’t the greatest depending on the type of eye (snails don’t have auto-focus and manually use the stalks to adjust vision, crabs have compound eyes and see hundreds and thousands of small blurry repeating images). Lepidopterrans, with four prehensile stalk eyes which have the ability to shoot goo, probably don’t have the best sight because of this.

But what’s this I hear about a goo shooting set of eyes? Where does the goo come from and how does a lepidopterran aim and otherwise not be bothered with gak coming from their face?

Well- perhaps unlike the eyes of Earth’s creatures, the ‘pupil’ does not act as part of their eye but as a barrel of a gun.

Something something the Original Series was being wacky by having current Ben transform into a ‘pupil’less Stinkfly only to have Babyfly and Papafly get a set of black dots, yada yada Omniverse came along and gave Stinkfly some well deserved holes, what if the reason why lepidopterrans can see while firing is because their eye is not the entire opening of the eyestalk but a concentric ring of compound eyes that circle some goo tract. Compound eyes may not be the best kind of eyes for sight and otherwise aiming, but a full regular eye would not quite fit around the tract without getting crowded and compound by proxy; besides, who needs sight when you’ve weaponised stink. Lots of flying insects have compound eyes anyway.

But moving away from eyes, the formation of this eye tract would mean that at the base of all four of a lepidopterran’s eyes there probably isn’t a brain but instead a special goo organ. It’s not to say that a lepidopterran doesn’t have a brain at all, but it certainly means that the already poor sighted bug has a longer distance to send visual information to a relevant occipital lobe for perception, their brain being located - like certain Earthen bugs - more so within their chests. This organ can also be accessed by the mouth to spew out goo rather than shoot it.

Why have I made this post? I have no idea I was zoning out and now I’ve finished a write and have no clue where I am or if this was cohesive, have some unique alien eyes and now some weird biology shit.

Thinking about how in 5YL the Reboot is an in-universe tv series… do you think Lepidopterrans are offended that Stinkfly looks so toned down just to sell toys?

For almost 2- no 3 years! I've had the idea of a pacifist Tetramand and a adventures Lepidopterran falling in love!

Finally, after 3 years, I've drawn them. The Tetramand is named Novus, and the Lepidopterran is named Videri.

Abraxasverse Headcanons

And a couple more headcanons from me. ;)

(1) Destoroyah and Bagan. You mentioned considering swapping Destoroyah out for Bagan as the final Big Bad for Godzilla’s swan song. Well, you could maybe merge them by having Bagan fuse itself to Destoroyah, kinda like a dark mirror image of how Mothra’s ashes fused to Godzilla in Boston.

(1.5) I was always into the headcanon that Destoroyah is like the Michael Myers of the Abraxasverse - no-one knows why he commits his evil, and he’s not speaking, he just does. Bagan could be the personality of the duo.

(2) The Hollow Earth Core World/Realm Below/Zohar realm is extremely radioactive. What if the Hollow Earth’s Core World/Realm Below is mostly steeped in radiation which nourishes Titan life, but which mundane humans from the surface can’t survive long-term without protection, like the Apex infantry gear or a HEAV’s protective shell? The Iwi or other tribal humans who’ve been living down there would be exceptions, probably because they’ve adapted to the radiation over generations, and/or implicitly because one of the lepidopterran “divine”/“god”-type Titans (Mothra, Battra, etc.) had a hand in making those humans able to survive the radiation similarly to how Mothra’s link to the Chen family influences their Preternatural Twinhood? (I reread Abraxas: The Clash of Silver’s Hollow Earth scenes to see if this has any contradiction there, and Maia is wearing the infantry gear throughout.)

(When it finally occurred to me, it seemed kinda odd that GvK forgot about the Titans’ radiation, like that which the Mutos caused in Dagon’s grave in 1999, when portraying the literal realm of the Titans.)

(2.5) Maybe while military personnel use the gas mask-toting infantry gear that Maia’s plans depicted in the ending of Abraxas, scientific and non-combative personnel sport slightly friendlier-looking versions of the suit, with a full-face transparent visor in place of the gas mask?

Ah, interesting thoughts... Bagan and Destoroyah having an evil symbiotic foil to Godzilla and Mothra has potential. And it makes sense that the Hollow Earth is more radioactive compared to the surface world (I figure GvK and GxK “forgot” about the Titan’s radioactivity because iirc even the classic Toho movies could be inconsistent with how safe it was to be in any proximity to Godzilla, whether you end up dying in his path or not). Food for thought.

Oh, and one more thing on the subject of AbraxasVerse... welcome to TV Tropes, friend. :)
