Deja que te cuente un cuento: La Señora de las dos Ollas
Let me tell you a story: The Lady of the Two Pots MARGARITA VAZQUEZ, Luz Violeta. Escritora – Columnista En un pueblo pequeño del cual no me acuerdo el nombre, donde la gente mayor disfrutaba de contar un cuento a los más pequeños de ese lugar, fuera de sus casas y dejar volar la imaginación. Just saw this amazing Haladriel video on Instagram/Twitter from Slowburnia that I haven't seen shared here so had to!!! :D The storyline is about Galadriel going after Sauron in every lifetime as they end up getting reincarnated many times over. Loved them using all of Morfydd and Charlie's movies/shows (including Charlie's currently airing "The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart") as some of these weirdly match up so well. It basically has every AU fic we've thought of in this, and she even used clips of Robert and Calam to be Elrond and Celeborn in some of these lifetimes too.

Mix Fela par DJ Calzone
Tumblr media

leticia medina & atlas williams
Tumblr media
Admittedly, Leti tried not to smile as big as she wanted to at the sight of Atlas. He was, after all, her best customer, both at the Comic Lab and even now at A Hero's Journey. Of course, she made sure to mess with him and to tease him as often as she could. It was her best way to show someone that she cared about them. And Atlas Williams was someone she cared about. Straightening up her posture and clearing her throat, she headed toward the giant and tapped his shoulder twice. Head tilted and her best Southern salesperson voice ringing through the air, "Well, hello there, stranger! Is there anything I can help you with today? We got books, movies, merchandise, and even some equipment for you to rent if you'd like to kick it old school and watch your favourite movies through tapes. Name it, we most likely got it! And I believe that I know exactly what you're looking for... Tentacle hentai, correct? You look like a tentacle hentai guy."

TIMING:  6/5/2023 7:21 pm LOCATION: Axis PARTIES:  Leticia @rhythmicmeow & Nora @honeysmokedham SUMMARY: Nora sneaks into Axis to pick up something she forgot and runs into a face from the past. Leticia realizes someone she’s been mourning isn’t dead. CONTENT WARNINGS: Parent death tw (mention), Suicide tw (no deaths)
Nora was a pit of emotions that swirled inside her, all clamoring against her walls begging her to express them. They were too loud. They were too demanding. They wanted thought and conscious effort from her that she didn’t want. That was why, with absolute disgust, she’d realized she’d forgotten something at Axis. Now Nora was sulking in Wormrow making sure he wasn’t home before she sulked her way into the office, picked up the snake from the bottom left drawer and left. At least it gave her a chance to drop off the gift she’d picked out for him. It was a hat that said ‘In Dog Years I’m Gay.’ She could already imagine the confusion on his face as he read it. At least that would be funny.
The stakeout was successful. Nora watched Emilio limp out. Probably on his way to the liquor store. Nora was in the door in a moment, quickly dropping the hat on his desk and grabbing her snake. “Sorry, Beyonce.” She’d only taken the snake out of her pocket because she’d been playing with Perro on the floor. Nora wasn’t going to wait for playtime to find out that Perror was a snake killer. Nora turned around, ready to leave and ran face first into a familiar face. Someone she hadn’t expected to see ever again, much less here in Wicked’s Rest. “Leti?” The name slipped out of her lips before she could stop herself. Quickly she dropped her gaze down, flicking her hood up with her free hand. Maybe Leti wouldn’t recognize her. She wasn’t the clean cut kid of the past.
Leticia should have ended her subscription to People magazine a long time ago. It came to the shop and almost immediately went into the trash. But this edition was different. Pine was on the cover with a brief statement about his missing daughter and then how he had… moved on. And was encouraging the world to do the same. It started another wave of confusing grief. It had been years since anyone had last seen Nora, and the assumption she had jumped to was a common one: Nora was dead. And the Pines were just going to replace her like she was some kind of doll.
So, she did what she always did when something hit a little too close to home. She went to Emilio’s with every intention of offering to pay for drinks, ready to prepare not to have felt anything at all pand to try and disassociate from the lingering grief. But when Leticia walked in, the immediate contact with someone caught her off guard. “Holy shit.” An apology hung on the tip of her tongue, but died at the glimpse of the face. “Nora?” Her heart was pounding, for all the things she had been feeling earlier in the day, it was now mixed with hope. She was hardly the same girl that Leticia knew before, not the polished presentation that had been advertised to the world via the Pines. Leticia moved carefully, putting her hands gently on the other’s shoulders and then dipped her head to get a look at the face again, or try to. “Is it really you?”
Leticia Torres. Pop rock star extraordinaire. A public champion of the LGBTQ+. Brand ambassador of the Pine Collection. Someone who'd known Nora for years. Suddenly Nora was a child again. They were on set for a photoshoot, and Nora had just gotten caught trying to scare Leticia for what had to be the thirtieth time. Leticia had always been so gracious with Nora, but her fathers were having her stand in front of the musician and apologize for misbehaving. On the list of famous people Nora had met and worked with, she ranked high. Nora actually liked the musician, unlike some of the assholes she'd posed with during her short career. But why was Leticia Torres standing in front of Nora now? Today of all days? The day that her own fathers announced to the world they thought she was dead, they were moving on, and they thought the public should too.
"I get that a lot," Nora mumbled, forcing her voice down to a different octave. "Similar face shapes." Nora did her best to sink into her hoodie. To melt on the spot. All thoughts of using her illusions escaped her in the stress of the moment. What would happen? Found and turned in the day after their announcement? So they could publically reject her for her replacement? Fuck. She hadn't thought today could get worse. Stall. Stall for time until she could think of anything to get herself out of this. Nora landed on talking about Leti’s music career. It was good stuff. The Pine family owned all her albums, and had gone to many of her shows. "I'm a big fan, recognized you instantly. It’s truly an honor to meet you. Your last show was-"
Nora paused midsentence, her whole body, still tense from the moment, froze. Nora was aware of Leticia's last moment. It had been metal. A spectacular transformation from woman to large cat. Of course, Nora remembered it. "You're a shifter." Nora forgot she was trying to pretend to be someone else. There was no more attempt to hide her voice or move her face from prying eyes. "That wasn't special effects. That's why you're here. Every supernatural comes here." Maybe this private investigation business would pan out for her.
Her heart dropped when the girl said that she got that a lot, why was Leticia expecting anything different? It was too fantastical to run into Nora in some random town in Maine. But with her father gone and her mother still in the wind, it would have been nice to have a win. Someone familiar to hang onto, something that didn’t feel like getting kicked in the chest. “Oh,” she whispered before pushing a practiced smile to her face, “Wishful thinking. Sorry.” Her hands dropped to her side, the feeling of defeat buried deep in her chest. The voice in her head reminding her that it was her own fault, she was breaking her own heart over and over again, looking for things that were simply impossible.
Ready to step to the side and let her flee Emilio’s apartment? Business? Leticia only stopped at the mention of her career. It was only a matter of time, she supposed. People didn’t seem to recognize her and frankly, it was nice. She found herself second guessing people’s intentions less and less, letting herself believe that she was making real connections with people while largely omitting a huge part of her life. A new wave of anxiety hit her. “Oh, really?” She kept her tone light, pushing more of a performance than before.
Her last show.
It wasn’t the most shocking part, anyone who followed her career the same way she did would have known that it had gone to hell fast. “I’m not a shifter, it was just a bad stage stunt,” she tried to explain it away with the lies that her management team had broadcast everywhere. Leticia moved again, this time looking Nora in the eyes, ready to tell the lie once more, only stopping because somewhere in the information, Nora had gotten lost. And so had Leticia. “I…” Was there any point in lying? “Nora, not many people know either of those things.” She worried at her lip, her emotions muddled. “Are you like me?”
The flip was switched. Leticia was back in performer mode as quickly as the disappointment had hit her. Nora knew the practiced smile coupled with the glossing over of very real emotions. When you were famous you did not own your emotions. You did not get to wear them on your face and proclaim them to the world. The public wanted to know that you knew you were special. The public wanted you to appreciate every single moment you lived because you gave it to them. To show anything other than a smile and appreciation would be to look at them with disdain. They would take it as an insult to everything they gave their public figures. It was as Reese Witherspoon had once said "No one who sees a photograph of us wants to see that we are anything other than totally happy all the time."
"I'm a bear." Nora let the hood drop from around her head. No longer cringing away from preying eyes, chin jutted forward. Nora knew what a mess she was these days. Dirt stained under her fingernails and against her cheek. She hadn't had a shower in two days. Her hair she'd started cutting herself, revealing being the only one touching it after a life of sitting still so others could dictate how she would look. The piercings were new too. Snake bites, septum, eyebrow. Anything to morph the cookie-cutter innocence of her youth into who she wanted to be now. "B-bugbear." The word stumbled off her tongue. "I didn't know it had a name. Until recently." Nora blinked. "I-I heard about your last show. I thought it was just funny publicity. But... Wow. Sick. I, you know, I didn't know there were other monsters until I came here."
Nora needed to get over this embarrassing habit of spilling every thought she had during times of emotional duress. She couldn't walk around with her cool emotionless facade only to keep ruining it because she had to deal with some uncomfortable truths. But this was Leticia. Basically extended family, she'd eaten at their table. She’d just always been around.
Looking at Nora fully now, Leticia exhaled slowly. She had known her for years, watching her grow up on instagram and seeing her throughout the years when she did work with the Pines. It had been two years without seeing her in person. A year of trying to accept that she was likely dead. And as Nora dropped her hood, it was hard not to tear up. She looked different now. The piercings were new, but not alarming. They had both been public figures and it was no secret that your appearance was specially crafted to be perfect. There was no room to explore yourself as a person or change even the smallest of details without severe scrutiny.
What Leticia was focused on was the dirt that had built up on her skin and the strange chop of her hair. This didn’t look like a girl that had been kidnapped, this looked like someone who had run away. “Are you okay?” The performance she had switched into faded away immediately, worry had taken its place. “You were adopted…” you had no idea. How could she have known? Had the Pines known about this? Was that why they tried to fill in that buffer between them so that Nora didn’t hide around every corner when Leticia was there? The pieces started falling together and while she didn’t want to pity Nora, Nora deserved better than that, her heart ached. No one should be born into this life with no guidance.
“I’m glad you found others like us.” I’m sorry I never told you. “I’m a balam. I was born with the spirit of a jaguar within me. Not a monster. And neither are you.” Maybe Nora had crossed the line of animalistic behaviors, judging by her hair, it wasn’t too far of a reach that those instincts might have overpowered other ones. But Leticia couldn’t imagine Nora in any other light than the sister she never had. And family, she had always believed, was there to support each other. Not judge them in moments like this.
"I'm g-" Nora wanted to say she was great. Nora had been great until the recent news kicked her in the face. "I'm good." Nora lied, nodding her head ever so slightly. "I'm adopted. Yeah." The pieces of the puzzle were clicking for Leticia, the say way they had clicked in for Nora. Pieces that made sense now that she could see the cover of the box. She could see the realization the moment it lit in Leti’s eyes. Nora swiped a hand across her face, begging her emotions to stay locked inside. This was just a lot. A new sibling, and the return of someone she'd seen as her older sister? In one day? Nora let out a deep breath, blinking while her eyes forced themselves upwards. She was going to keep it together. Her tongue pushed a piercing around in a circle as Nora worked to regain her mask. Her mask that kept cracking.
"They don't know. If you're wondering." Nora shoved her hands in her pocket, one of them going to Beyonce and stroking the smooth scales for comfort. "Um, I think if they did... Well, I don't know. It doesn't matter. They're fine now. You know." Words were hard. Words danced just out of her reach, keeping her in a constant state of ums and wells. "I eat fear. I um. People don't do that. You know? But I am a monster. I eat fear. Um. It's cool that you're a balam. Never heard of one until now. Jaguar? Sick. I've met a werewolf and a vampire so far. And Emilio." Nora didn't know if Leticia knew he was a hunter, and she didn't want to out her boss. Hopefully, she would just think she was calling him an animal if she didn't know. “How’ve you been? I haven’t read anything about you since the show.” It must have sucked, to transform on stage in front of everyone. Nora couldn't imagine why that would happen. Maybe Leti was bad at controlling her jaguar. The spirit of a jaguar. Was it not her? Was it like a possession thing? There were a lot of questions Nora was going to need to ask. One of which was why was it Balam and not jogjaguar or something like that. Werewolf, Bugbear, and Balam. One of those was not like the other.
Deep breath. Emotion's calming, Nora got it together enough to look back at Leticia. Beautiful of as always. Composed. Clean. God Nora was a mess, she knew that. She probably should have used the shower while being here but she hadn't wanted Emilio to catch her here after saying she wouldn't be at work. Plus she might have cried again. Which was embarrassing for her. But thinking of Emilio Nora was reminded, "Do you think we can do this not here? I.. I am excited to see you again. But I can't go back. I don't..." Nora licked her lip, pausing as she once more tried to figure out how to express her self "I never wanted to be famous, you know? That was their thing. I just wanted to know what I am. That's here. But he doesn't know." Nora motioned around at Axis. "He doesn't even know my name. He never asked. Just calls me kid. And look at this dump, I'd understand if he chose the money over an employee. You know?"
There were so many things that Leticia wanted to say. Two years of grief that had been written down in journals and private thoughts that she hadn’t dared share with anyone because she, like Nora, was supposed to be perfect. People loved the heartwarming stories, but the sad moments? The grief in the aftermath of a loss? There was an expiration on those feelings for the world. A week, maybe less, and then she had to be sparkling again. Grief wasn’t pretty nor was it marketable. Two years of thoughts had her mind swimming with everything she had wanted to say, every moment that she had missed, every open seat at her concerts that she had left just in case Nora just… showed up. Nora said she was good, and Leticia nodded. Good had to be good enough, even if Nora was looking up at the ceiling the same way she did when she was upset.
“I don’t think I would have been able to forgive them if they did.” She wasn’t entirely sure she’d be able to forgive them now, either. The anger from that article as still hot in the back of her mind, refreshed by Nora’s comment. Who could do that to their own child? Leticia couldn’t imagine her parents doing that, she couldn't do that to Nora, and Nora wasn’t even her blood. But she swallowed her choice words, tried to swallow the anger. Whatever Nora felt about the Pines, it wasn’t her place to influence her. Nora didn’t need Leticia’s image of family warping the one she had. Eating fear. Nora startling her so often made a little more sense. Not that she was particularly thrilled at being a meal. “Do you work for him? Is he not paying you? Her thoughts derailed at the question. This time, the sadness was for herself and not for Nora. “My pa…” Did Nora know about hunters? Had she run into any while she had been on her own? “I had to hide,” she settled on, deciding not to pile more onto Nora’s plate. “ Ma told me this would be the best place to hide. Safety in numbers.”
Glancing towards the back of the room, Leticia nodded her head. She hoped that Emilio wouldn’t be the type to sell someone out for a quick buck, but no matter how far she pulled away from the spotlight, she never became disillusioned with what people would do for money. Even people she liked weren’t immune to that. “We can go. Anywhere you want. I have a place downtown, a record shop. I live upstairs, so… There's a shower if you want one. Or anything else you need.” She paused for a beat, “He doesn’t know what I am either, or who I am, not the full version at least. He refuses to Google anything so I figured he was a safe bet,” she said, trying to keep her words light. Nora had been living in a dollhouse with the way that she spoke, only fueling her anger towards the Pines. All the piercings, the lack of showering, even the messy hair… Maybe that wasn’t the bugbear so much as Nora trying to get her agency back. “Whatever you want to do here, I’m in your corner.”
"It would have been different." Nora took a deep breath, "If they had known, I mean. I could've told them. I just didn't know how." Nora wanted to make excuses for all of this. For her. For her fathers. Nora longed to explain away all their actions and cling to the idea that her fathers' love was an unconditional well to draw upon that never dried up. Even if the voice hidden deep inside her had already convinced her they wouldn't accept this side of her, because it wasn't part of the perfect child they tried so hard to make her into. No. In this version she was trying to speak into existence, she'd run away not because she was scared of their rejection, but because she needed time. It was just one of those lies people told themselves to get through the day. They always looked different on different people, and this was the shape it'd taken around Nora. To Nora, that lie was a lifeline. Nora gripped it in locked fingers, held tight to her chest with an unspoken and unrealized fear that someone would rip it from her.
"Pay me? You've met Emilio before, right? Pay me? With what? His negative money?" Nora blinked, once again looking around his broken, dirty apartment. "His door doesn't even lock." Nora shrugged. "This... it's like a mentorship thing? I help him out and he helps me out." That wasn't the truth, and the lie stung as Nora said it. Emilio was paying her, he was paying her in the knowledge that she'd craved for her whole life. But Nora had learned by now that you don't out other people's secrets. If you do, you put them in danger. Nora didn't want to put Emilio in danger, but she also didn't want to lie to Leti. Imagine if they had been honest with each other years ago. They wouldn't have been alone with humans. They would have had each other. That knowledge sparked something in Nora, something that made her crave to spill all the secrets she held so that she could finally know this person who'd been a sister to her.
But Nora couldn't. Because talking got people killed. Because hunters were always on the lookout to kill monsters. Leti was talking about having to hide, and safety in numbers. "Hunters." Nora's monotone voice left no room for emotion. "Is there a hunter after you?" Odd to find someone hiding from hunters in a hunter's apartment. But wasn't Nora doing the same? Funny how life was full of parallels a person could be blind to until it bumped into you. “Wait, what are you doing here? Are you hiring him to track down the hunter?”
Nora slipped past Leti, taking the woman's hand and leading them towards the exit. Before leaving Nora made sure to look both ways before pushing them out into the light of day and walking the opposite direction from where she'd last seen the old man limping off. "Your store would be great." And Nora meant it. She looked forward to seeing what Leti had been doing with her time here. To spend time catching up with her. There were so many questions Nora wanted to ask about balams, and what Leti knew about the supernatural world. Most excitingly, it was thrilling to be back in someone's life who knew her, knew what she was now, and was still on her side. “Whatever you want to do here, I’m in your corner.”  Nora had never heard more inspiring words.
“What would you have told them?” Leticia shrugged and shook her head. “You were just a kid, Nora. You… You shouldn’t have had to do this on your own.” There were a thousand reasons why Nora might have ended up in the custody of the Pines, a thousand more why she might have grown up alone, but Leticia hated the idea of it. Hated that Nora didn’t have the same experiences that she had, growing up near a protected forest where she could roam free without the worry of humans or hurting anyone. Angry that she was robbed of learning to love what she was from family who loved her in equal measure, even when she wasn’t perfect. Angry for all the moments that Nora was robbed of. And angry at herself for not questioning it.
But how could she? From the outside look in, everything was perfect. Even the photoshoots where Nora was dressed up like a jaguar and Leticia had a bear costume on, there had been little moments where Nora had stepped out of line just enough to be visible in a way that wasn’t perfect and someone would step in and demand she apologize. Leticia had wanted to step in a thousand times, to tell them that she was just a kid and that being weird was the whole experience of being a kid. She was learning about herself, learning to be herself. But that was the thing about tragedy, you didn’t know what it was until it was done and over.
“I made a joke about paying his employees, I didn’t realize he really wasn’t paying you anything.” It wasn’t as unbelievable as Leticia wanted it to seem, but she at least cracked a smile. There was a strange comfort in knowing that Nora had found a place here and that Emilio had been a part of that for Nora. The faint smile slipped away, the word opening the wounds open once more. “I don’t know. I don’t even know how they found my pa. Ma is out there, but she’s been quiet for a long time. I had just gotten off the phone with ma when I went on stage. I’m sure even if I didn’t transform they would be hot on my tail, my family was never much of a secret.” The idea of hunting down the hunter themselves had crossed her mind, but revenge was never something that rooted itself in her heart. And what good would killing them do? It’d just stain the ground with more blood and stain her too. “I was here to see if he could help me find the bodies.” Plural only because she had given up hope on finding Nora alive, and maybe putting her father and Nora to rest could give her some semblance of peace.
Leaving the building, Leticia felt lighter, which was not what she had expected when deciding to drop in on Emilio uninvited. She expected some complaining and some drinks and less thinking. She likely wouldn’t have even asked for his help to find out anything about her father or Nora considering how hopeless the world felt. But seeing Nora after all these years? Knowing that she was alive? Nothing could replace that feeling of relief, and nothing short of that could inspire hope like what Leticia felt now.
What would Nora have told them? Hadn't she tried once? Locked in her bedroom for a week after her first transformation, her dad's concerned about her. They hadn't believed her, but she knew she hadn't tried hard enough. Maybe if she had transformed into the bear in front of them, or if shown them the illusions she'd learned to cast they would have been able to accept she had been telling the truth. It wasn't fair to hold them to a standard of acceptance. Humans couldn't be expected to understand those things. Nora couldn't understand those things and they were literally happening to her. It just was. Nora let that part of the conversation fade away. Leticia was right. Nora shouldn't have had to do it on her own. Her birth parents should have made sure she was given to a family that could help her. She should have at least been given a note explaining what she was. But those things didn't happen and Nora did go through it alone, but she wasn't alone anymore. Nora had people now. People who didn’t just know how to help, they wanted to help. They were willing to accept her as is, no boxes she needed to fit into or live up to. Better yet, now Leti knew. In this moment? That was enough.
Nora shrugged again. "Only poor people work for money." Nora actually had no clue that she was getting paid for her modeling. All that money went to a trust set up by her fathers that she was supposed to get access to on her eighteenth birthday. Growing up Nora simply had to ask for something to get it. The world was at her finger tips, attached to a credit card linked to her fathers accounts. Where and how people got money was something she didn't start learning until her foray into the real world. To her, it really wasn't odd that Emilio wasn't paying her. You worked to achieve something, not for money. Back then it had to achieve fame for herself and her family, as well as pleasing her fathers and making them proud. Now it was for knowledge.
So hunters actually did kill people. Despite having two hunter run-ins herself, Nora still found it hard to believe. She had never even met a hunter before coming here. Perhaps Leticia's parents were just in danger because they were here, where the hunters were? Nora didn’t say that though. Even she could determine that was a dick question to ask. It wasn’t Leticia’s parents fault that there were a group of humans dedicated to destroying them. It must be a lot to go through, family being hunted. Losing her dad. Missing her mom.
Look at them? Two parentless monsters hiding out in Wicked's Rest. Wasn't it funny? Not in the haha I’m laughing way, but the wow, the world really did hate monsters way. Nora reached out a hand, placing it on Leti's arm. It wasn't much, she knew, but it was the comfort she knew how to give. "I bet Emilio will be able to find them. Maybe." Nora shrugged. "I actually don't know if he's a good private investigator." He didn't know who she was, and her face was plastered over magazines. Plus some of the questions he asked her were just stupid. "But I'll help. Any way I can. We will find them." Them, plural, because Nora had no clue she was included in Leticia's body search. Nora remained as oblivious as always.
Nora was practically smiling. The corners of her mouth were upturned at the slightest angle. She had been sure today would be miserable. After retrieving her friend, she was going to go back to her crypt and sit there. Possibly sulk. If that got too much she was going to go to her practice area and stab a tree for a bit. Instead, Nora got this. A reconnection. A new beginning. It was exciting to realize that Leticia had been keeping her own secret double life, and now they were not going to get to know each other both as adults on the same even footing, but as monsters.
