I had a visit from my cousin Malcolm last night. For some reason, we were back in the room he had when he was here. I got a feeling he recreated that to make me feel comfortable because I would always hang out in his room. I was reminiscing with him about old times, like when I didn't know how to pronounce "ATLien". I got a chance to tell him thank you for trying to teach me, well trying to teach me, how to play basketball and being a "big brother" to me. Malcolm did a lot more listening than I remember. Before he was the one trying to explain and answer my questions like an older brother to a younger brother. He was about 7 years older than me. Now it was more equal footing, as if he was acknowledging my growth from a 14 year old to a 31 year old. He told me he had "grown in wisdom" as well. In fact, he appeared to me with a moustache and some gray in his hair, even though he had none of these when he passed.We talked about the similarities of how I was affected by my mother's sudden passing and his sudden passing. I think he was trying to tell me that he's still around as a big brother even when Im feeling all alone and disconnected from "the world". Last thing he told me was that he said to me he was happy and at peace and wants me to be happy and at peace too.Then everything filled up with white light. I woke up feeling so much peace and serenity as if everything is going to be okay. My mom came to me in a dream last night. First, we were at the old house we lived in on Westervelt Ave. She was in the kitchen, frying chicken, and wearing a pink sweat shirt and grey pants. She was talking with me about her life on the Other Side now and someone named "Sadie McEntyre"? I don't know who that is but she mentioned it and I hope I'm remembering right. Also, she suggested I try toast with avocado and soy sauce, or what I think was soy sauce. I told her, "I didn't know you were into #AvocadoToast and #SoySauce?" She just laughed and said she has time to try a lot of new things now. My mom was a typical #Sagittarius when she was here and she's still is over there. Secondly, she took me on a "tour" of how she visits people still alive in the physical sense. (BTW she keeps telling me "Dont be telling people I'm dead, I'm very much alive son, I'm just not in a physical body.) We visited a few relatives and observed them. Only the young babies and animals seemed to notice us. Lastly, my mom took me to this really nice art gallery/museum/botanical garden type of place. There were huge fountains everywhere, kinda looked like waterfalls. Everything was really clean, polished, and there was lots of white marble everywhere. There were other "people" in the museum. I was just exploring around and taking everything in. Then I noticed my mom was with my baby nephew she never got to meet in her physical life (Again, she keeps emphasizing "I'm still alive, just not in a physical body). I got some time to play with my baby nephew in one of the gardens. Finally my mom comes up to us in the middle of playing hide and seek in the museum/garden/art gallery place and says with a smile "I knew you'd like this place. Now it's time for you to go back." Pyongyang Style – North Korean Haircut

A few months ago, I had the privilege of visiting North Korea for a second time...

Pretty much the only way anyone can visit North Korea is by joining a tour.  The entire time while you’re in North Korea, you’re not allowed to go anywhere without minders following you around.  These tour guides also restrict the amount of contact you can have with the locals, and it’s extremely difficult, if not impossible, to have any chances of interacting with a North Korean civilian.

This video is an insight into just that – what interacting with a North Korean civilian might be like.

Spending time with the hairdresser, Kim Hye-Sun was unlike spending time with any of the usual North Koreans you get to meet.  She was charming and quirky.  For the first time, I felt like I was seeing something real, that wasn’t shown to me.

Filming in North Korea is a bit of an iffy task, and you never know when a minder may decide to confiscate your memory cards or camera.  That was a risk I didn’t want to take, so I decided not to reveal to them the fact that my 5D was capable of shooting video.  I taped up the back screen with black electrical tape.

I was hired by One Day On Earth to shoot in North Korea for their 10.10.10 film project, where they got a filmmaker in every single country on earth to film the highlights over a 24 hour period.  The raw footage will eventually come out as a feature film, but here, I’ve made my own edit.
