1959: "beyond the sea" by bobby darin (also i'm mad cause this is ONE year off from my favorite drifters song which is "save the last dance for me")

1964: ohhh there's "you really got me" by the kinks, "come see about me" by the supremes and of course "the house of the rising sun" by the animals

1973: this is not turning into a primer on 73 in music but god was it a good year. "dream on" by aerosmith, the entirety of pink floyd's dark side of the moon album, "desperado" and "tequila sunrise" by the eagles, "higher ground" by stevie wonder, "la grange" by zz top, "piano man" by billy joel, "ballroom blitz" by sweet?? all so good.

1988: an even BETTER year for music. "under the milky way" by the church, "fast car" by tracy chapman, "every rose has its thorn" by poison, the iconic "i hate myself for loving you" by joan jett and the blackhearts, six of the ten songs on paula abdul's "forever your girl" album (specifically "forever your girl", "straight up", "cold hearted", "knocked out", "opposites attract" and "the way that you love me"), "i'm gonna be (500 miles)" by the proclaimers, "born to be my baby" by bon jovi (from their unfortunately named album "new jersey"), "listen to your heart" by roxette, "eternal flame" by the bangles and "do you believe in shame?" by duran duran...

1988 also holds the dubious distinction of being the year that spawned milli vanilli (my sympathies to the actual singers behind it)

“Where did you learn to sew?”

He shrugged, feeling utterly ephemeral. His back twinged painfully at the movement, but he floated too far from his body to truly feel such a thing. To feel anything, really.

“Don’t remember.”

It wasn't even a lie— not entirely.

But sometimes, he almost thought he might. The wide windows that let in the afternoon sun; the endless bolts of fine fabrics, all lined up in rows. By colour, by texture— he ran his fingers through an elegant beaded trim. He hid behind a drape of gossamer organza.

It didn’t feel like he hid out of fear. He didn’t remember why he hid. But, he remembered how small his hands looked— pudgy and smooth— gripping the hem of a silk skirt.

Her hair fell in soft, white ringlets that became one with the blur of the sunlight. She smelled like a breeze off a summer field, somewhere cleaner and greener than Baldur’s Gate had ever been in Astarion’s long life. Her voice was a melody, talking his clumsy fingers through each line of stitching.

Her face was nothing but a luminous vacancy.

Astarion shrugged. Must he recall her face? After all, he’s seen far too many women’s faces in the past two centuries. He’s slid his hands along too many silks—

But, his grip on this woman didn’t feel like seduction. There was nothing calculated or rehearsed in his mind. There was no disgust going sour in the back of his throat, no thrall driving him on.

How long has it been? A voice asked. He couldn’t know for sure if it was the woman in his half-formed dream of a memory. She sounded hollow, like the numbness of a funeral goer. How long has it been since you were a child?

There it was— the unceremonious tug of reality.

5. What is the first thing you notice about people? Their face, usually I can tell if someone is putting on an act or not.

7. Scary movies or happy endings? I hate scary movies so of the two i’m gonna say happy endings

10. What are your hobbies? Reading, watching and analyzing shows/movies

so idk if you've read "the terror" yet or not but i finished it a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it (although i think i like the show adaptation more, ngl). adam nagaitis REALLY nailed the "unhinged bastard rat man" vibe as hickey x)
