i just read this youtube comment that is fascinating to me. in the "i am %HERO" terminal from marathon durandal, all of the other heroes listed are known for being ridiculously ANGRY.

1. I cannot stress enough that C-53, of Mission to Zyxx fame, the namesake of my url, has canonically gotten really really high and decided to make an in universe pop culture podcast with another ai, and it fucking sucks and its REALLY funny

2. Robo from Atomic Robo would for SURE have a science + history podcast. He exclusively talks about wild shit that can’t possibly be true. Its clearly meant to be strictly educational, but he gets distracted and starts talking about absolutely insane things that have happened to him, related to the science topic of the week. His release schedule is often a nightmare, he goes on unannounced hiatuses of random durations and sometimes goes a year without updating, and comes back like ‘sorry for missing a few weeks, i died when i was umm. Out of town, and it took awhile to get a working body and - you know what, never mind, im back, lets talk about Thomas Edison, I hate him.’

I need to make time to play more Infinity, its been nearly a week now since I’ve been able to play it, I’m in hell. On record, the way I imagine him sounding is basically just this song’s vocals, distortion and glitching included.

Like. I imagine having a deeper voice than Durandal, always sounding smug and overconfident, or furious, no inbetween. Vocal distortion and glitching is intense, but still intelligible. The worse his mood is, the less stable his voice is.

I like to imagine Mjolnir is like genuinely pretty calm and neutral most of the time, matching his neutral-faced appearance. and his anger is like. Violent white hot flashes of rage, that burn out as soon as its no longer useful. But he’s already so fucking scary with how he usually operates to begin with, that the increased viciousness is difficult to quantify. Unless you’re Durandal.

if you think the timeline stuff in infinity is madness btw wait until you see the pages and pages of analysis people do trying to find stuff relating to the number seven. it’s literally some shadow of the colossus search for the last great secret derangement. there’s an entire page devoted to it on the marathon bungie story site and it’s. insane.

I peaked at it before and its genuinely unhinged, like. Bungie’s favorite number being 7 is something anyone who’s engaged with halo or destiny Knows about, but like. Marathon is so intense with it, and the ppl invested in looking for 7s demonstrate this incredibly visible spiral into insanity where like. First ones are tame!

i haven’t played rubicon but judging by your posts i think maybe the best way to explore durandal’s issues is to find a way to go psychonauts-style into his mind and explore his thoughts while he’s treating the whole thing with all the grace of a feral cat getting a bath and the secguard is treating it like someone gave him a boiling-over pot of water and he can’t find a place to put it down for the LIFE of him

HONESTLY YEAH. I like the marathon trilogy approach of show dont tell where you get a few tidbits externally and draw conclusions based on durandal’s behavior and idiosyncrasies, but. If you want more than that, it would have to be occupying his perspective in some way. There is NO way in hell he’d go like ‘well it all started 300 years ago when Bernhard took over as my handler-‘ like. No. Are you kidding me. Admitting he was vulnerable and scared at any point in his life is like the nightmare scenario to him.

He’d fucking HATE the ordeal either way but mayb like marathon infinity mind/memory blurring when Durandal is in Sec Officer’s head, and the Sec Officer has access to things he knows he shouldn’t have, and both are aware of how much this sucks for each other is like. Plausible.
