Recycle

i am inspired by the lighting and composition of dutch painters and partculary the remberant era. I want to balance light and balance tonal properties throughout each image, distrubuting the lightthrough each prop and deciding what will be the main focus of my image. Particulary looking and depth and textures of my props.

my 2nd shoot My 2nd shoot will be highly centred around recyled film , old school photographic equipment and dusty polaroids i will be using an old trunk or wood as a backdrop for this image which i think will give a contrast with the elements of the photograph.

Reading Response #7

The moment we first walked into the Davis Gallery last week I was really excitedabout this show because of its focus on crafts. This summer I found myself reconnectingwith my old passions of sewing, knitting, and rug hooking. So I was looking forward toseeing the pieces as well as tackling the install of unique pieces like quilts and rugs. Annafirst taught us how to do a condition report, which was pretty straightforward. It definitelyhighlighted the importance of packing and shipping or reinforcing your work correctly.Then we moved on to hanging the large blue quilt that is the piece you see as you enter thegallery. Anna chose a great location for it, in front of large windows, where it shines lightthrough the somewhat thin quilt. We used a fishing line to hang up the quilt and it tookquite a while to get it hanging evenly. Gen and I then worked on hanging three squarerugs, and we were reminded of the correct way to find the middle point then hang theother two from there. When we came in the second day it was cool to see more piecesinstalled. This time we worked on re-installing a smaller quilt and moving it from aclothesline to hanging more diagonal using fishing line. Again, the fishing line waschallenging but moving the piece helped with the flow of the space a lot as you entered.How it was originally placed was blocking the view of other textiles behind it and made foran awkwardly sectioned off space. We then positioned a smaller pedestal in the same areafor small threaded figures to be placed on. Even though our group spent about three hoursin the gallery total helping Anna, we only collectively helped install 3 pieces (2 quilts, 1vinyl sticker). It takes time and precision to install properly and have things look correct.There can also be a variety of logistical challenges depending on what the medium is, andthis show was definitely full of unique mediums. I think this show is very strong in thevariety of mediums and pieces it includes. Some of the mediums I’m sure will be foreign tomany of the show’s viewers. To me, they didn’t feel as foreign but I was more awed by thetechnical skill shown. It also made me feel as though some day my rugs or quilt could be ina gallery if I continue to develop my skills. I understand what the show is about, and whythese items have all been collected into a show together. But I don't quite know specificsregarding each artist or piece. I’m looking forward to reading the additional text anddescriptions/titles of each piece on opening day.When I am in a museum or gallery space, everything feels so untouchable. It is aunique experience to be installing the works that otherwise feel so untouchable andfragile. To physically hold an object and realize it's just made of string or fabric or recycledsigns. And you can touch it and feel and see the artist's hand and what they touched andfelt. I am interested to see how the space will feel on opening day when we enter it, and ifthe objects will feel untouchable or fragile because of their location on a white wall or on awhite pedestal. In my drawing I marked the locations of the pieces we helped to install orunpack.
