Yes, that's also what I would thought it would be, or something along those lines. But even then I'm not sure if they are aware Hylia's not dead during Zelda's lifetime, at least. And that could explain why during such a long time Hylia was not talked about ! What's the point of bothering a dead Godess lol

I'm very curious about how you think Skyloft reacted to this information about Hylia and Zelda. Did she even tell them or does she prefer to keep it a secret ? If everyone knows, how do they react ? What does that change about their religion and their way of life ? Is this how Skyloft, an anarchist society (in the sense that yes the school has a director but besides that there is no ruler) became a monarchy ? Do you think it happened over multiple generations ? Aargh so many questions ! I can't personnaly find an answer that satisfies me fully, so I'm very curious about what you think !

Yes Skyloft is definitely very religious ! But at the same time there isn't really room to doubt. I mean even if someone doubted the fact that the goddess elevated the islands, the divinity in the clouds is very much there lmao. What I was trying to get to is that to them religion is not a belief, it's a fact, as indiscutable as science. I mean I doubt anyone is going to try and prove that the huge whale is a collective hallucination, and no, no, the bond you feel with your loftwing is just a result from the lack of oxigen ! (I'm actually very entertained by that idea someone write about him please 😂)

So with that in mind, of course they practice religion, but in my mind it isn't with the intent of practicing it, those are simply habits of everyday.

Like, they don't keep track of history. At all. This is killing me by the way. Everything that isn't "used" everyday is just. Forgotten ! It's clear to me that a lot has been lost. There's only the basic stuff to explain their everyday life, only the common knowledge of "this is how we got here" and there is no like, historian or theologist ! Otherwise we would have met him in the game ! We needed him ! WHY DID YOU GUYS FORGET EVERYTHING 😭

I mean, nobody even really expresses interest into learning that, like, oh the lighttower just got a whole new architecture and a mirror on top of it. They only start to care when the goddess statue fall. They have to see an island fall to wonder what is happening. What the heck. The windmills are falling apart, noone cares about preserving them, if Link didn't need them they would have just been. Part of the landscape. Until they are destroyed. And I get that this isn't their main problem, like, if the island we see really are the only island here then they have a big problem of overpopulation lmao. They probably quickly gave up on the cemetery because that was going to take up too much place ! (That cemetery was driving me crazy during my first playthrought) But still, they don't look like they are too bothered with anything. Skyloft is too peaceful 🤨

Sorry, got carried away. I'm going crazy about their lack of curiosity. The point is : I think if they worshipped the goddess, like any more than by praying, there would be at least a historian. They would want to keep track of a lot more ! How many books are there about the christian god ? (I was curious and looked it up : the bible encompasses 73 BOOKS. WOW.)

I really believe that if anyone was being actively religious during that time, it would be the sheikah. They are the one who kept track of everything, and, looking at what Fi says about Impa in the wiki, she says she received the order of protecting Zelda from the goddess. I'm not sure if something along those lines was said in the game (really need to replay it lol) but it sounds like she is a priestess. The wiki says she is a guardian and servant to the goddess.

But at the same time, I definitely don't believe that we saw all of the islands in the game. I have tons of headcanons where I just refuse to acknowledge the canon. So I can definitely understand the belief that dialogue about the changes happening to Skyloft other than the island were cut, (or that I don't remember something,) etc. To see Skyloft as very religious makes a lot of sense and I don't want to sound like I believe only what I think is true is valid ! I know I got carried away, so I sounded a bit aggressive sometimes but it definitely wasn't in that sense ! I'm simply extremely excited about sharing my headcanons and what I noticed !

Ok ok ok ok I COMPLETELY agree with you!!!! I think sky is a man of extremes - he either loves you or he despises you. For the most part, he adores everyone (other than a few key people cough cough ghirahim and demise cough cough). His whole convo with Zelda right before she sealed herself away fucked with him SO MUCH, because suddenly he is trying to cope about the fact that the goddess his entire culture idolizes manipulated him, and what makes it worse is that Zelda is the reincarnation of her.

ANYway, i think he absolutely hates Hylia, yeah! I think he despises her and is so bitter towards her and would be completely fine if she straight-up died! In my mind, he doesn't like any deity, really. He's had enough interactions with gods that he is absolutely comfortable telling them they all suck and he hates them lmao, but that's a tangent. It makes a lot more sense to me if he hated Hylia, but what might make others to disagree is the fact that Zelda was Hylia. Fortunately, I have a solution for that as well!!

When Zelda talks to him right before she seals herself, she mentions that she didn't know, she was happy to be his zelda, etc. So in my brain, after Demise dies, she has a full-on identity crisis (and probably also a "oh my gosh Link probably hates me" Moment cuz she knows him so well) where she's not sure who she is, if she's a goddess or just Zelda, cuz now she has all these memories that she remembers but she didn't experience them (Sun and Wild would be besties and you can't change my mind lol). So i think that Sky couldn't hate Zelda, and so they both work it out and they can both separate Hylia from Zelda and see that they're two different people. So would there be dissonance in their relationship? Sure, briefly, but they love each other and they work it out and both of them dislike Hylia, they're such a power couple and will fight god :D

As for fanon having other Links be bitter towards Hylia, I guess it works?? idk it works at first glance, but then i always remember that they have no fucking clue who Hylia is. Wild knows, obviously, but he's on good terms with her. I just think it's occasionally a little funny to see the Links ragging on Hylia when they canonically don't know she exists.

(my personal hcs are that the Links, especially Ledge and Time who are typically the most outspoken about it in fanon, pretty much just want nothing to do with the gods. They're more focused on the immediate "i can save this person and the world" part. Also, Time has his whole Master Sword thing. but in general, i think that any bitterness towards the gods (most likely the golden goddesses) is pretty surface-level and they don't think much about it. Not a single Link would regret saving the world. I think that's something I don't often see - they chose to be heroes, and they would do it again without hesitation. They just wish it didn't cause so much trauma. However, Warrior having religious trauma due to fighting a war and feeling like he and his soldiers have been abandoned, similar to WW1 soldiers, is just something so important to me :P)

Actually, if you want to see a really clear-cut example of how I think Sky feels about Hylia, you can check out Smoke & Ashes, which is a LOT of angst so PLEASE BE CAREFUL, but chapters 13 and 14 are very prominently about how they feel about each other (in my head). yes i am shilling, but i love this fic lmao.
