Boothill observations and theorys(?):

Hello tumblr I thought I’d share some observations I’ve made about boothill, an upcoming 5 star character. Particularly his name and how it relates to his cowboy aesthetic as well as his possible backstory. I also want to theorize his situation with Acheron as well. Well I’m not exactly an expert on theory’s so I doubt mine counts but I’ll share what interests me on boothill!

Boot Hill, Name origin:

First off, what is a “boothill”?

“Boothill” or “Boot Hill” are a type of cemetery most commonly referred to in western parts of the United States and America. What makes this cemetery unique is its association with cowboys, specifically ones that died in violent non natural fashion like shooting or hanging, “died with their boots on”.

How does this relate to Honkai star rail boothill.

- boothill is based of the typical western American cowboy , with the outfit, his accent , usage of guns, etc. so we have that connection .

- The HSR wiki says that he’s specifically a cyberborg. Cyborgs are typically depicted as robot human hybrid characters. Some cyborg characters like robocop and cyborg (dc comics) have backstories of becoming a cyborg by having had either died and came back to life through technology or damaged their human body greatly to the point they replace with artificial robot tech.

- Boothill in leaked eilodons shows his naked body. However you can quickly noticed his body is human. Not robotic like what we’ve been officially shown.

- Contrast this with his lightcone art, boothill has only part of his robot body. It looks like he’s being operated on.

- So how does this his name relate to his possible backstory

- As previously iterated, boothill is a name for cemetery of cowboys that died in violent ways. Pair this with how the leaked content having a human body which insinuates that he was at some point a human.

- So what I theorize: Most likely case is that boothill died/ got heavily injured, most likely due to a fight, so much that his only chance to survive was to make him a cyborg. The name boothill fits because he probably died in his boots (I’ll assume for now it happened on the job, maybe his job was the same before and after?).

- Interestingly There’s a leaked description of his lightcones. I’m not 100% sure about how true it is so I’ll have to take it with a grain of salt. However it details on him coming back to life after almost embracing death.

- - If boothill died, who killed him?

There isnt much to hint at who is to blame for cause of him becoming cyborg so far, given he’s a new character with little information.

At this moment, my best guess is the ipc which characters including topaz and aventurine are in. Boothill is revealed to not like the IPC as revealed in his introduction post. However there’s an interesting thing we need to observe.

- Notice how it states “the target of his revenge”, meaning the ipc most likely wronged him in some. I wonder if the ipc is the ones responsible for his death and transformation to being a cyberborg. But it’s likely it could be another reason for his distaste.

- his tension with her seems very extreme to the point where hell even go after people affiliated with her when he threatened black swan under the impression she’s was working with her. And saying she shouldn’t exist.

do I think she was behind his death?

Unlike with the ipc one, I’m not really sure. I personally think that this possibility has less weight to it and there might be another reason for his dislike towards her. But it wouldn’t be surprising considering aventurine claims she brings death and finality.

- like aventurine, Boothill knows that Acheron isn’t an actual galaxy ranger however boothill himself is a galaxy ranger. Since Acheron is falsely claiming she’s a galaxy ranger, could this possibly cause tension with the actual galaxy rangers and her to be a target for them? I don’t really have much to theorize much more but would like to hear what others think

Finally posting some details about one of my D&D characters--Foxtrot. Apologies in advance, this is gonna be a long one. He's partly a Watership Down oc because I can't make a Harengon character and NOT make everything about Watership Down, so for anyone who isn't familiar with the conlang in that book I'll put translations for every Lapine word I use! I won't go into too much detail about everything, partly because no one wants to read that and partly because my D&D party follows me here and there's still a few secrets I want to keep.

Foxtrot's Lapine name is Homba-Suíl (pronounced "HOM-bah shool"). Homba means fox, but since there isn't any Lapine word for "trot" or anything similar I took the Gaelic word "suíl," meaning "speed" or "movement". I've always felt that Lapine sounds like it needs to be spoken in an Irish accent, so it only made sense to draw inspiration from that language. His name is meant to mean "speed of a fox," which is actually an insult from his mother (rabbits are of course much faster than foxes), who never saw any potential in him when he was born.

Foxtrot is albino, making him naturally disadvantaged because he has poor eyesight and his coat makes it hard for him to hide. He's also a very small rabbit, so everyone in his warren always expected him to die pretty early. Ironically, despite the name he was given, Foxtrot grew up to be the fastest runner in the warren. This caught the attention of the chief rabbit Marlirah (MAR-lee-rah, "mother queen"), who invited Foxtrot to join her owsla (military force, similar to a king's guard). He was the youngest and smallest member of the owsla, and the other officers didn't take kindly to him being there </3 Foxtrot didn't really get upset about not having any friends though. He was completely and totally devoted to Marlirah, and as long as he had the chance to serve her he was the luckiest rabbit alive. All of the rabbits in the warren practically worshiped Marlirah, but Foxtrot had a particular love for her because she had believed in him when no one else did.

One day during a particularly brutal battle, Foxtrot received a devastating head injury, and woke up to find that he had been separated from Marlirah and the rest of the officers. His memories were pretty scrambled, and he spent the next year or so wandering around searching aimlessly for the others. He doesn't remember most of the period after waking up. The party found him sometime during this wandering period, after his wound had mostly healed but his amnesia was still very present.

Like Big Cat Weekend, the goal of this past weekend was to get a number of top targets on campus in order to lay the groundwork for future booms. Mission accomplished.

This week is a unique week on the recruiting trail. For much of July and all of August, it’s the dead period in recruiting which means that prospects and coaching staffs can not have any face to face contact. But from July 25th to July 31st, there is a quiet period which allows recruits to have face to face contact only on a college campus. That has lead to the majority of programs throwing very large recruiting events in hopes of getting their top targets on campus one more time before fall camp begins.

Starting in 2016, Auburn has taken advantage of this time period by throwing a picnic/bbq event at the end of each July. It’s almost like a second Big Cat Weekend though its focus is a bit more split between this class and future ones. It’s proven to be successful thus far. This year it looks likely to have the same results.

The Tigers landed one commit and sure sounds like a few more could pop in the coming weeks. Like Big Cat Weekend, the goal of this event isn’t necessarily to land same day commits. Instead, it’s to forge strong bonds not only between their top targets and the coaching staff but also allow current commits and future targets to bond as well. Often times, it’s the connection between fellow prospects that ends up mattering just as much as the relationships with the coaching staff.

All but four Auburn commits made it to campus this past weekend and it doesn’t appear that any of the four showed up at other events. Last year, George Pickens spurned Auburn’s event for Georgia’s, something that in hindsight proved more important than I realized at the time so I was playing close attention to see if something similar went down this year. Thankfully, that doesn’t appear to be the case and even more importantly, the majority of Auburn’s top ranked commits made the trip to help the staff recruit.

The biggest news from this group is obviously Wright’s commitment. He’s someone JB Grimes has wanted for a long time and Auburn is reportedly thrilled they could get him on board before the season. He gives Auburn 6 offensive line commits which could mean they are done at that position. However, they will reportedly continue to pursue some JUCO OT talent and don’t be surprised if they host some more OL official visitors during the season.

One of the bigger storylines this weekend was tracking where Tank Bigsby would visit. There was confidence that he would be on the Plains but with Tank anything is possible. Well the nation’s #7 running back elected to head to Auburn over Athens and even more importantly returned Sunday to talk with the staff. This is turning into an AU alum showdown between Carnell Williams and Dell McGee. Can Caddy land his first big boom as an assistant? That possibility feels MUCH more realistic than it did just a few weeks ago.

The other big time offensive target to visit was Phenix City native EJ Williams. He was close to being an AU commit following this event last year but his recruitment absolutely exploded during the fall and now Auburn has been playing catch up. The good news is he stated Auburn had moved up to #2 on his list following the visit. The bad news is Clemson continues to lead and with a decision coming at the end of August, it’s hard to see this one going Auburn’s way. Luckily, the Tigers already have a very strong WR class committed so Williams is more of a “really nice to have” than a necessity.

It’s been hard to get a handle on Auburn’s top DB targets this cycle and even harder to know who might actually be favoring the Tigers. That picture got a lot more clear this weekend. All four DB prospects that visited are absolute takes for the Tigers and there’s a chance all four might now be favoring Auburn. Two are JUCO prospects Marco Domio and Brian George. Both have already used official visits to the Plains and could be closing in on a decision. Interestingly, EJ Williams was only one of two uncommitted prospects to visit Auburn for both Big Cat Weekend and the War Eagle Picnic. The other? The nation’s #2 JUCO cornerback Brian George. Jason Caldwell also reports that Domio’s flight was cancelled which could have meant taking the much shorter drive to College Station but his family instead elected to drive 10 hours to the Plains. The JUCO prospects also reportedly spent a lot of time together during the event. Auburn very well could have to replace both starting cornerbacks next season. Signing two of the top three JUCO recruits this cycle sure ain’t a bad way of going about filling that hole.

As for prep targets LaDarrius Tennison and Kendall Dennis, both have been reported in the past as having Auburn as a top school. But you really can’t start taking players’ interest seriously until they start taking multiple visits to campus. The fact both elected to travel to Auburn for this weekend is big news. Getting Domio, George, Tennison and Dennis in this year’s class would be huge for Auburn. The other name to continue to track is 4* CB Ethan Pouncey. Chances are good at least three from that group will be Auburn Tigers next season.

This weekend wasn’t just about locking down some top 2020 targets, it was also about getting a jump start on the 2021 class. The recruiting cycles kick into gear so much earlier with the new early signing period. That’s why Auburn really split their focus of this event between finishing out their current class and getting a foundation in place for the next one. It sounds like they made signifiant progress on both.

It’s believed that Kenny Dillingham’s cryptic tweets on Saturday evening about a 2nd possible commit were in regards to Alpharetta, GA native Aaron McLaughlin. The 6’4” 225 lb gunslinger camped (along with 3* Will Crowder) with the Tigers on Friday and it sounds like he impressed both Gus Malzahn and Kenny Dillingham. So much so that the Tigers are hoping to get him on board very soon. It’s interesting that Auburn might go so hard after a pro style QB given Auburn’s recent focus on dual threat prospects the past few classes, but supposedly McLaughlin showed enough mobility during camp to make the coaching staff feel good about him being able to run the whole offense. One thing is for sure though this dude can throw the football.

McLaughlin might not be the only future 2021 boom. Lee Hunter has long favored the Tigers so much so that when asked about his top schools his answer was “Auburn, Auburn, Auburn, Auburn”. The Eight Mile, AL native is a 247 Composite 5* already and expected to be one of the top prospects in the country next season. Landing Hunter would be a massive early boom for this 2021 class. He reminds me a lot of Derrick Brown at this point in his career and I don’t say that lightly.

Hunter wasn’t the only instate 5* on campus. The man they call Kool-Aid, Ga’Quincy McKinstry, was back on campus again this weekend. Ranked as the nation’s #15 overall prospect in the 2021 class, McKinstry has long been a frequent visitor to the Plains. But this trip was a bit different as it wasn’t only Gus Malzahn that wanted to meet with him. Bruce Pearl stopped by and let McKinstry know that he also has an offer to play basketball for the Tigers.

You don’t see many kids play both football and basketball in college but Auburn is willing to let McKinstry do both. This is going to be one of the most hotly contested recruitments in the state next cycle. It will be interesting to see if Alabama follows Auburn’s lead and gives Kool-Aid a chance to be a dual sport athlete at the next level.

Finally, file the name Isaac Washington away. Visiting from Pilot Mountain, NC, Washington appears to be an early top target for Rodney Garner. He left the Plains with the Tigers on top. Don’t be surprised if his name quickly climbs the prospect rankings over the next year.

I will admit that even my obsessiveness over recruiting hasn’t lead me to watch much 2022 film but there was a bit of news from this list. Khamauri Rogers left the Plains with an offer in hand. Given Auburn’s recent success in the state of Mississippi and Rogers having Marcus Woodson has his position coach, I think he’s a name to track over the next couple of cycles. I am guessing we will see him on campus more in the future.

Will “Bodak Yellow” serve to help unify women in hip-hop once and for all?

This week, reality TV ingénue turned hip-hop star Cardi B changed the game when her single “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” hit the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100. The 24-year-old artist had the honor of dethroning pop icon Taylor Swift for the crown, as Swift’s comeback single “Look What You Made Me Do” slipped to No. 3.

The historic nature of the No. 1 is practically common knowledge at this point: The Love & Hip-Hop: New York alum not only holds the highest-charting track by a female rapper so far this year, but the first solo No. 1 from a female rapper in nearly two decades. (The last time was in 1998, when Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” made the Fugees veteran the first female solo rapper to ever have a chart-topping single.) Only three other female rappers have ever seen the top of the charts, but unlike Lauryn and Cardi, they didn’t do it alone.

Cardi B 'Moves' to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 With 'Bodak Yellow,' Post Malone Debuts at No. 2 With 'Rockstar'

This multi-tiered achievement was arguably willed into existence by the MC, as many have referred to Cardi B’s (née Belcalis Almanzar) story from exotic dancer to superstar as a real-life fairytale. Celebs and low-follower accounts alike tweeted in support of getting the Bronx native to the coveted top position -- a feat that can now be achieved through streams and algorithms as much as racing to a record store to purchase a cassette single. It’s indicative of the times, though perhaps it’s reflective of more changes to come, considering all of the congratulations that poured in following “Bardi’s” No. 1 announcement.

Hip-hop legend Missy Elliott tweeted in support of Cardi B, as did fellow venerated rap greats Lil’ Kim and Trina.

Just before Cardi B’s simmering success reached its boiling point, the rumor mill had been churning that a new beef was brewing between Barbs and Bardi. Following Nicki’s verse on London On Da Track’s cut “No Flag” -- where she barks “Lil’ bitch I heard these labels tryna make another me/ Everything you getting little ho is ‘cause of me” -- and Cardi B’s verse on G-Eazy’s “No Limit,” where she says, “Can you stop with all the subs?/ Bitch I ain’t Jared," bets were hedged. One congratulatory tweet from Nicki proved them all wrong. Are the tides finally changing for camaraderie amongst women in the upper echelon of rap?

For the duration of hip-hop, an underlying theme has always been that two female rappers couldn’t occupy the same space at the same time. When it did happen, one had to be named as the superior, to assure the surrounding rap male egos that their genre would never evolve into a girls' club. If immediate dominance wasn’t singled out, the female rappers would be pitted against one another.

It first happened in the ‘80s when the battle between Roxanne Shante and the Real Roxanne led to a schism of sorts where the name “Roxanne” became rap-lyric fodder and led to scattered female rappers adopting the same name. While Queen Latifah and Monie Love would bring some sense of community with “Ladies First” (aligning with other rappers like MC Lyte and Yo-Yo) it would only be dismantled by 1996 when Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown destroyed our Thelma and Louise dreams by getting entangled in a multi-year war that has remained unsettled to this day. Two years later, Lauryn Hill would be plucked from the rest and placed directly as the female rap figurehead in pop, though the pressures of that duty seemingly took their toll on her. In the underbelly of women in hip-hop, the petty arguments would ensue, surely over who could someday sit in Lauryn’s place (since sitting beside her wasn’t an option).

Five Winners From 'Bodak Yellow' Going to No. 1 (Besides Cardi B)

Lady Luck and Remy Ma. Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj. Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma. Battles between women in the rap space became par for the course. And sure, for the two decades following the Foxy/Kim battle, the most commonly blamed force behind the creation of these conflicts was the male-driven marketing machine. But not all popularity contests are devised by men: The origins of the divisiveness between the female MCs were oftentimes not without cause, and not always rooted in jealousy.

When Nicki Minaj found her first taste of fame in 2009 with her Beam Me Up Scottymixtape, her marketing package was nearly identical to Lil’ Kim’s, right down to replicating Kim’s iconic panty-squatting photo. Of course Lil’ Kim would be annoyed, though her extensive right hooks to a dead horse became the real point of contention. When Remy Ma was released from prison in 2014, she was welcomed by yet again Nicki Minaj, sporting the female-rapper crown in the name of New York City. Theoretically, Remy could have been in that position had the law not gotten in the way.

The real takeaway here, though, is that women in hip-hop are consistently made to believe that you can play with all your girlfriends in the minor leagues, yet once you level up it’s time to fight. Meanwhile, we can live in a world where JAY-Z, Nas, Diddy, Rick Ross, Future, Lil Wayne, and now even Kendrick Lamar can all call themselves “kings” without the once-coveted G.O.A.T. debate surfacing. The final conclusion with male rappers is that there can be many G.O.A.T.s in the farm. Are women in the space now allowed to apply that same formula to their peers?

Earlier this week, Cardi B tweeted that every female rapper congratulated her on her success, which may signify a shift once and for all. This past Summer at New York rap station Hot 97’s Summer Jam, Remy Ma brought out Cardi B, MC Lyte, Lady of Rage, Young M.A., Monie Love, Lil' Kim and Queen Latifah to perform Latifah’s “U.N.I.T.Y.” Nicki Minaj was clearly missing from the picture; not all fights can end that easily.

But even when Azealia Banks attempted to throw casual shade at Cardi B through her secondary Twitter account @xocheapy along with scathing comments on Instagram, Cardi B posted a video of Azealia Banks singing along to “Bodak Yellow” -- proving that while jealousy is a hell of a drug, so is a catchy hook.

The real power move, however, is in how Nicki Minaj has handled Cardi B’s success. Minaj is the female rap paragon who has left more hurt feelings with her striking success than any other female artist. But when Lauryn Hill welcomed Nicki Minaj with open arms earlier this year, Nicki fell to her feet; a true turning point. When respect is given, it’s returned.

Women are currently in a position of strength in hip-hop, more so than in recent memory. Cardi B has the No. 1 single. Rapsody’s second studio album Laila’s Wisdom has been met with wide critical acclaim. Nicki Minaj is still iconic, and in fact sits in the Hot 100's top 10 this week alongside Cardi with her guest verse on Yo Gotti's "Rake It Up." Lauryn Hill is touring. Lil’ Kim is still performing. Remy Ma is churning out anthems. Newcomers like Leikeli 47, Princess Nokia, Kamaiyah, Young M.A. and more are still building their buzz. Everyone is winning all at once. We can say “that wasn’t so hard was, it?” But, yes. Yes it was.

And so we wait for the day when the “female” no longer invariably sits in front of the word “rapper,” though we may be damn close. While the key to diminishing that singling out is strength in numbers, so is a supportive community. As Cardi B receives the praise from her peers that none have previously received, she may have given us all far more than just a hot song.
