An appreciation post for the restaurant chain Yard House.

As someone who travels fairly frequently, I take pride in researching the great local spots in every city I visit because that’s what makes that place unique. Nine times out of ten, I would rather hit up a local spot or even a local chain rather than go to a chain restaurant because my time in the location is limited and I’d like to make the most of it. Sometimes, though, that one time out of ten pops up and I want the comfort of a good, reliable chain, usually for a low-key lunch.

Enter Yard House, my favorite chain restaurant right now.

I’ve only been to a few Yard Houses, but they served me very well in my times of need. My first proper meal at the chain was at the very first Yard House in Long Beach, where I enjoyed the poke salad and appreciated the wide variety of beers on tap. I brought my husband here later in the week and he also enjoyed the experience. Prior to that trip we had enjoyed a beer at the Times Square location once as it was close to our hotel and we were in the mood for a beer, and we ended up having a pretty fun time there too!

Most recently we went to the Yard House on the LINQ Promenade for a low-key dinner on one of our first nights in Las Vegas, and it suited us perfectly, poke salad and all. I came back here for a light lunch to enjoy the noodles and shiitake mushroom appetizer and a bowl of the tomato bisque, and it was just what I wanted that day. The staff there is great and friendly, the food was solid, and I really appreciated my expectations all around being met. In a place like Las Vegas, when you’re surrounded by overpriced restaurants (usually with the faces of mediocre TV “chefs” on them), it’s comforting to get a reasonably-priced meal that’s reliably solid.
