Fun little character inspiration thing because why not?

Bedlam’s inspiration at its core has always been Discord (obviously), but over the years he’s had more inspirations and influences to his characters. Guild if I’m being honest, only had two inspirations (Muttski and Amy) when I was making him, but while broadening his character, he’s gotten a lot more.

I have LOTS of thoughts and opinions on modern (2015-) Barbie. I tend not to buy from the brand nowadays for a number of reasons. (Short summery, the quality/designs are just not there and it seems like a big waste of money.) However, when I looked at this doll, things just clicked and I knew I wanted her in my doll family.

I am so grateful that my mom supports me and my love of dolls and sent this diva to my school 🙏.

(2nd pic is her face next to a thrifted standard Millie, she’s my token mannequin doll lol. Also she doesn’t come with a Fanny pack. I already had that.)

I’m literally terrified of this movie bc I’ve been suspiciously autistic abt it in such a quiet way that I don’t rlly talk abt it online and I would start crying my eyes out everytime I thought abt watching it (not in a bad way just in a deranged way) and I know I’m gonna like it no matter what and give it the Batman 22 treatment (watch it almost everyday for months on streaming services) I feel quite ill and demented I need it to be Monday already and wear my matching bracelets to the theater w my friend. Babs is looking and feeling great after her glue treatment I just really dislike that face. Objectively there's nothing wrong with it but on an emotional level it's an era of Barbie that feels vacant aside from LitDH. I loved the articulated fashionistas bodies, but it's tainted by the fact they only came in two tones and often with big grinning glue heads.

The Snow white body went to Yukko-chan, even though it's a match for rainbow high - it's perfect for her aesthetic. She'd had her hair up in a tight ponytail in a baggie so she'll be wearing the elastic until her bangs set.

Gabriela, Sheryl and Emi have the same skin tone but look more or less dewy or matte depending on the shimmer and blush.

Fidgie friends has a more yellow undertone. Another doll line undercut by questionable eye design.

Addendum for Modern Fashion Doll People: This also applies to the new Barbie Rare Finds thing that Mattel may be starting to do across multiple lines, and is definitely doing now with the Steffie substitution for the Deluxe Style doll that normally has a Millie sculpt.

Yes, we all love Steffie.

No, you do not need to pay scalper prices to get that chase doll with the LitDH Midge-style Steffie head.

It's just cheerful plastic. There have been decades of it made already, and there will be decades of it in the future.

and yes of course I know that my views on this are way more harsh than how most people approach the hobby--for example, I have never had a grail doll, and I can't imagine doing so, and I understand that makes me the odd one here. I am not trying to convert people to my way of thinking, and more offering the idea that there are other ways to approach the hobby, especially if there's something about the way you're currently approaching it that is making you unhappy. Hobbies are for happiness.

Listen. If all you know about Barbie is the movie, you need to know this:

Old dolls really aren't worth that much.

Nope, not even the original dolls from the early 1960s, not unless they are in absolutely pristine condition.

And every second-hand seller is out there ready to take advantage of the idea, held by most people, that "old doll automatically means valuable doll"

"The price being asked on eBay" is NOT the same as "the price the doll is worth"

And, ultimately, dolls are cheerful pieces of plastic. They are not vital to life--if you don't know me, I'll tell you I'm saying this as someone who has had fashion dolls as one of my main hobbies for decades. If you think something seems a bit expensive, it's perfectly OK to pass it by. It's just plastic.

There has always been a problem, especially on eBay, of predatory pricing sought by people who can't even tell the difference between a doll made in the 1960s versus one made in the 1990s that uses a 1960s copyrighted body.

Don't fall for it.
