What is Cloud Based AI Services?

Since these gadgets are intended to prevent sensitive information from being unintentionally sent or shared, keeping data local may also serve to enhance user privacy. Running a job locally on your device has the benefit of reduced latency.

But cloud computing has benefits of its own as well. While data transmission to a remote server may need a quantifiable duration, cloud-based or remote data center services are capable of executing a specific query on a host of hardware that is far more powerful than a single workstation, laptop, or desktop. Scale is a benefit of hosting a job in the cloud; sometimes, this surpasses the need for fast reaction times or the innate urge to protect sensitive information.

The demands of the end user and the specifics of the application determine whether AI technology is preferable: local AI or cloud based AI services. The complementary nature of local and cloud based AI services opens up new possibilities for hybrid services in the future. While AI PC technology available for local AI processing is continually increasing, cloud-based providers aim to minimize the time lag between query and answer. Envision a conversational chatbot that used cloud based AI services to get broad background knowledge on different subjects, but resorted to local processing whenever it needed to access papers or other data kept on your AI PC.

AMD is driving the next age of AI PCs and making extensive investments in AI

In December of last year, AMD made the Ryzen AI software stack available to the general public after acquiring the open-source AI software development company Nod.AI.

With the introduction of ROCm 6.0 in February 2024, AMD added support for new GPUs and math types, ONNX compatibility, and newly built support for workloads that combine FP32 and FP16 data types.

AMD has shown its commitment to ensuring AI is more than just a marketing gimmick by discussing collaborations and optimizations with ISV partners in public. They are enthusiastic about how artificial intelligence may transform computing in the future and are creating a rich pool of talent at every level of the organization to support this progress.
