Geranium robertianum, EN: herb-Robert, NL: Robertskruid

This tiny, smelly weed I have known since childhood, but only after 34 years did I learn it's name. The plant is native here, and grows as a weed in many places. It's smell is really distinct and it's flowers, leafs and fruits are super cute. You will notice the former before the latter.

Herb-Robert blooms tiny purple flowers from April till November, it's stem and leaves sometimes green, sometimes a marvelous red (more often in dry soil). When the pointy fruits dry, they shoot away seeds up to a distance of 6 meters.

This plant is edible in the sense that it won't kill you if you eat it but it tastes very bitter so it remains a question of why eat it. It's been used a lot in folk medicine as a desinfectant and styptic and rubbing the leaves on one's skin is supposed to keep away mosquitoes. The smell really is kind of awful, described sometimes as "burned tyres", so it's probably just as useful to keep other people away too lol.
