A rescan by a fantastic lab and The Liverpool Psychedelic Society at Carnival.
Earlier this month I blogged about receiving a set of misaligned scans from a high street lab.
Since I began to shoot film again one lab in Leeds has processed the vast majority of my rolls. Take It Easy is staffed by people I cannot recommend enough. Not only do they understand the needs of a lomographer but actually shoot film themselves! They have the equipment, expertise and knowledge of the nuances involved with good old fashioned analogue photography.
Give them a look at https://www.takeiteasylab.com/
Joe and his crew enabled me to present these shots of a recent gig at Carnival Brewery that was presented by Liverpool Psychedelic Society and featured Thee Lucifer Sams and Heavy Salad.

Lomography Brings Back Color Shifting Lomochrome Turquoise Film
Back by popular demand, Lomography has announced the 2021 iteration of its Lomochrome Turquoise XR 100-400 color negative film. This particular stock adds strong blue, cyan, and cobalt colors to images that “fade into golden gradients.”
Lomography was founded in Vienna in 1992 as the Lomographic Society International and is a globally active organization that is dedicated to analog, experimental, and creative photography. The company regularly produces unusual or innovative film photography products that range from films, cameras, instant products, lenses, and accessories. Some of the products Lomography brings to market are extremely niche, such as an instant back for 8×10 cameras. The new blue-tint film is yet another example and might be considered fringe even by Lomography’s standards.
The Lomochrome Turquoise XR 100-400 color negative film is a new 2021 formula that is only available in limited quantities. The company says that the film is considered “much sought after” due to its “intriguing” emulsion that makes everyday colors transform into shades of blue and emerald that transition into golden, orange, and yellow gradients. Lomography says that the film is designed to bring a look that normally could only be achieved using filters.
The long-lost and much-loved LomoChrome family member is back! We have received countless requests from our Community to revive this Turquoise treasure so, without further ado, meet the brand-new LomoChrome Turquoise 2021 formula! The craziest member of the color-shifting family, this turquoise treasure will take you on a trip to the magical forest of mushroom houses where everything is blue or aqua, maybe cobalt, emerald or cyan. You might even get a glimpse of gold.
Lomography says that warm colors become blue, blue becomes golden, and greens become emerald. Those colors will shift depending on different ISO settings, but Lomography wasn’t specific on how that would happen, instead asks photographers to enjoy the experimentation process. The company says that in addition to the colors, the film also is capable of delivering superb sharpness and fine grain.
The revived film stock is available in 35mm, 120, and 110 formats, has an ISO of 100 to 400, and can be developed using the normal C-41 process.
Lomography is currently accepting pre-orders for the film — which starts at around $11 for one roll and is available in packs — and expects to ship deliveries in June of 2022.

Week 7 - Workshop
Lomography is a movement and applied science of all things associated with the Leningrad Optical & Mechanical Union (LOMO). The most notable camera that was borne out of this was the LC-A or Lomo Compact Automat c.1984. The LOMO company itself is a manufacturer of optical scientific military and consumer products and more notable the LC-A. In 1984 the LC-A was one of the early consumer product to come out of LOMO and just under ten years later was the key device that sparked interest for a small group of Viennese student who later then founded The Lomographic Society.
Tumblr media
The LC-A today functions as a fashionable lo-fi 35mm analogue camera and yet still, even with the simplistic Minitar 1 lens, vibrant colours can explode from this Soviet superstar. The design and form of the LC-A payed tribute to the original model of the Cosina CX-2 in 1981, and to this day had remained unchanged. Designers have given the LC-A new coats, and its sibling the LC-Wide is a personal favourite of mine. Lomographers feed the LC-A varieties of 35mm film; chrome, x-pro, slide and redscale to get the most out of this diverse mechanical masterpiece. The LC-A can even be dressed with attachments that allow for instant polaroid-esque results on small Instax film sheets, multi colour flash bulbs and on the LC-Wide, other formats including half frame can be used.

Lomographers only and new will be familiar with the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography:
The Ten Golden Rules of Lomography
Take your camera everywhere you go
Use it any time – day and night
Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it
Try the shot from the hip
Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible
Don’t Think (William Firebrace)
Be fast
You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film
Afterwards either
Don’t worry about any rules
In the digital, instant, attention-span-of-a-goldfish world, it is refreshing to know that an ideal that requires patience in obtaining results is still so strongly recognised and followed.

Charity shop collection
Established in 1992 by a group of footloose Viennese students, the Lomographic Society International is photography’s wild child. Fuelled by fiery passion and burning curiosity, we blasted off our free-spirited movement when we stumbled across the Lomo LC-A — the most popular Russian camera of the 1980s, now famed for its quirky aesthetic. We wasted no time at all and created our Ten Golden Rules, and we’ve dutifully followed them ever since. Today — with over 1 million creative members — Lomography is a license to let loose; an invitation to ignite your inspiration, and a platform to catapult your shots around the globe. Whether you’re a complete novice or a seasoned pro, we believe that you harness the power to create something incredible. From crazy color-shifting film to bespoke Art Lenses, innovative instants to classic analogue cameras we’re dedicated to designing and producing all the photographic tools you need.

Lomography is calling
TB2, Week 19, Blog 5: How to Make it as a Director
If I will apply to any company for an internship, I will choose Lomography (https://www.lomography.com).
Tumblr media
Lomography is an online website about analog film camera, created by a group of Viennese students. It started as they were in love with the most popular Russian camera of the 1980s, Lomo LC-A (Lomography, 1994).
They came up with the ten golden rules (Lomography, 1994):
Take your camera everywhere you go
Use it any time – day and night
Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it
Try the shot from the hip
Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible
Don’t think
Be fast
You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film.
Afterwards either
Don’t worry about any rules
Along with its motto, “Don’t Think, Just Shoot”.
Lomography website also provides shop for film lovers. Lomo Shop. They sell film cameras, films, lenses, and camera accessories at the affordable prices (sometimes the prices are better than eBay, Amazon etc).
Tumblr media
Apart from shops, Lomography also held the competition within the film camera society. For instance, Meaningful Places Contest.
Tumblr media
Moreover, there are also Lomo magazine, where it is like a blog, which is aim to share tips,  tutorials, interviews, photos, etc.

And this is my letter of application for Lomography.
Subject: Intern Application - Poonchayanit Kornchawanrapee
Good morning,
The purpose of this email is to apply for an internship with your company. Your company gives friendly and easy-going vibes, also full of beauty of films photography that I always have passions for. I also saw that you held fantastic exhibitions almost every year throughout the world, and my favorite one is your 25 Years Celebrations of Lomography.
I am currently studying Media and Communication at Kingston University, London. It means that I am capable of knowledge about social media, photography, websites and many more. I can offer my social media approaching skills as I am an active and up-to-date person. I am also active on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube for any current trends and styles.
As I am a film lover myself, I learned lots of things about the film camera due to my passionate, I know film camera from inside-technically to outside-physically. Thus, I truly have knowledge about analog cameras and, if possible, I can be one of your judges-assistant in Lomo Competition.
I am good at writing blogs and interviews as I do my blog post weekly,  I could offer you my blog-writing skills for Lomo Magazine.
I am flexible, responsible and creative, also have plenty of software skills, such as Microsoft software, Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, etc. I am a great video editor, who you can be trusted to make any advertising videos for Lomo Shop, or promoting your website on other social media platforms.
And the attached document is my CV. Even though I have never experience working with the camera industry, I am sure that I will do well in your industry and I believe it will be one of my impressive experience.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

In the seminar task, we work as a group and were assigned to write an application letter to a company. We chose a production company called, Cherry Duck (https://www.cherryduck.com/). We look through the website and decided to apply for their video production internship as we are interested in videography and video-editing. We wrote a draft email and our tutors gave us some advice on it to improve for next time. I really enjoy this lecture and I found it really useful for my future carreer path.

What is lomo?
The word "lomography" is derived from the LOMO LC-A, a compact 35mm film camera that was first manufactured in the USSR by the state-run LOMO PLC (Ленинградское Oптико-Mеханическое Oбъединение, Leningrad Optical Mechanical Association) in the mid 1980s and originally sold for about $30. Now the funny thing about this camera is that it was junk. It suffered from a myriad of quality issues, which included light leaks, over-contrasty images, soft focus, vignetting and inaccurate colors. But there was a small group of Viennese students who didn't see these problems as problems, but as opportunities. In 1992 these students formed the The Lomographic Society International, which eventually became the primary voice for this new branch of photography (as well as, of course, the exclusive distributors of the LOMO LC-A outside of the former Soviet Union).

I am a proud member of the Lomographic Society. https://www.lomography.com/homes/alienmeatsack If you like photos, don't mind that I don't care about the rules, and like film, you should check my stuff out. Until last year, I was pretty cool there. Then I became uncool because I was sick and couldn't shoot. But I'll be cool again this year.

What can be written about the Lomo LC-A that hasn’t already been said by its cult following or the marketing team at Lomography? It is the genesis for the entire Lomography movement, as well as a critical factor in convincing my younger self to take photography seriously as an art form back in High School. To own an LC-A and keep it in the outer pocket of a canvas rucksack is to be a carefree hometown wanderer or a pilgrim to a major city looking to live the artist’s life. What is important about the LC-A is equal parts its optical qualities, and the ethos surrounding its character as a photographic tool. Walter Benjamin wrote that “the camera… on the one hand extends our comprehension of the necessities that rule our lives; on the other, it manages to assure us of an immense and unexpected field of action”. The Lomo LC-A (and by extension the Lomographic movement and corresponding society), is an unintentional personification of this concept of exploring the mundane and alluding to the unexpected. Originally, the LC-A was a piss-poor Russian copy of the Cosina CX-2, made in flagrant disregard for international trademarks. It is typical of 1980s and 90s 35mm compact cameras: plastic build quality, compact lens, and fully automatic operation. It’s the camera of the every-man of the Soviet Union, pocketable and easy to operate without much thought. Just point, zone-focus with your best guess (in meters of course), and shoot. However, there is a trick of the light regarding the LC-A’s 32mm F/2.8 Minitar-1 Lens. What some might call an artistic quality, I would describe as a “cheap and kind of janky” quality. Lens flare and soft focus are all issues with the lens and its zone focusing mechanism. Also, the lens coating always seemed to me to produce a dreamlike lack of contrast at just the right time. Lomography as a company has made a big fuss that this lens is somehow special, and while I would agree to a point, there is more to it. The Minitar-1 is like the other Russian M39 mount lenses made in the Soviet Union. It is shitty in JUST the right way. The distortion Russian lenses tend to produce isn’t as obnoxious as with a Holga or Diana, but it is FAR from Zeiss or even Minolta sharpness. The lens possesses a heartwarming quality generated from its poor design and construction, similar to the pop and crackle of dusty vinyl records. Better lens designs just feel sterile by comparison. The LC-A occupies a perfect position for the ultimate adventurer recorder. It’s the Moleskine notebook of 35mm cameras: it carries with it an ethos of a bohemian past, while being cheap and effective. The images the camera takes are like poetry written after a few glasses of scotch. Sure, they may not be perfect, but they have character! In this way, the LC-A has built upon its own legend. To use an LC-A is not only to follow in the footsteps of some unknown soviet citizen, but to also follow in the footsteps of those first Austrian artists and students who recorded their fleeting salad days in Vienna on the very same camera. (its for this reason that I would recommend buying an original LC-A from Eastern Europe rather than a Lomography Chinese made LC-A+. To fully understand the ethos of the LC-A, a Lomographer should get one from the former Soviet Union just as the first Lomographers did). When I hold the plastic body and leatherette in my hand and slide that lens cover open with a satisfying metallic clank that is both cheap and substantial feeling, I feel connected to a more carefree type of photography. Everything and anything seem possible. The LC-A is lightweight enough to carry up the tallest mountain or fit into an overpacked hiking bag. Its soft dreamy pictures will not reflect the reality of the moment, but instead capture the dream of the memory recalled years down the line. And of course, the camera is cheap enough that if I break it or it suddenly stops working (as mine has twice now), I won’t cry about having to replace it. This intersection is precisely where the power of the LC-A lies. Its cult is the same as waxed canvas rucksacks and Kelty tents. It is the perfect tool for, and conduit to, adventure. There are other cameras that will do what the LC-A does and be better or worse in certain regards, but the LC-A is the perfect compromise of ethos, quality, and utility. It is the ultimate photographic tool for taking pictures of adventure, rather than adventuring to take pictures. Ultimately, it is a conduit to “an immense and unexpected field of action”.
