sour grapes. trip down memory lane

it was already quite late into the day, around 11:01pm. as the ablaze sun falls asleep, the light-toned crescent moon gleamed amongst the blanket of infinite stars, casting shadows on the evening pavement to safely guide pedestrians back to their cosy homes. the streets felt rather isolating and lonely but, it was not suffocating either as you were not walking alone.

“seriously? kafka made you do that?” you asked blade in between your laughs as he walked beside you under the dimly lit street towards your apartment.

“yes, and she still owes me one for this.” he sighed, slightly cringing from the memory replaying in his head like a broken record. however, once he looked at your amused reaction, it appears that the broken record was fixed by the sight of your smile and laughter. “do you really enjoy seeing me like this?” he could not help but to tease.

“hey i never said that!” you lightly smacked him, as if you were as close to him as as you were last year. “it’s just nice seeing you with your people now, you look like you’re having fun these days.” it sounded genuine and sincere; your heart was pounding loudly and you were worried if blade could hear it.

during the time when you and blade were close, you two shared one thing in common: a heartbreak and a misfortune. this is exactly why you felt relieved and happy listening to blade talk about the shenanigans him and his friends get into. for a moment, you eyes looked dear and affectionate towards him.

“i could say the same about you, it’s nice seeing you again.” there was a slight hesitation in blade’s voice. he let out a gulp, even he was not aware of what he was nervous about. is there something else that he’s missing from the story?

blade suddenly halted in his tracks, you turn around and looked back at him in confusion before he gave you a lazy smile. “my dorm is in the other building. i’ll see you tomorrow.”

you watched as he slowly disappeared from your sight, his broad back being the only thing that was facing you. once you ensured that he entered the building, you did the same with a small contented and excited feeling swirling in your chest.

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE.

My pfp is Pierro from the Soviet era Belarusian children’s musical film ‘the Adventures of Buratino’ which in itself is a retelling of Pinocchio. On his adventures, Buratino runs into a circus troupe, who include Pierro, the sad clown.

Pierro himself is a version of the centuries old Italian stock character Pierrot (which I’ve been fixated on for some time now) who is essentially constantly lonely and loveless, something the audience is meant to find funny. He is often found singing to the moon, who he is in love with, or being cheated on by his wife with Arlechinno.

This is his song in the movie (it’s adorable)

Her stage consists of a beautiful city filled with bakeries and sweets shoppes, the air always smelling of baked goods. This mellow teen even brought out cupcakes to Streetbeat and the others when they came to visit.

🩰Prima Ballerina 🦢

A young lady can be seen spinning gracefully across the marble floors of her stage to classical music. She warmly welcomes Streetbeat, Pensive Pierrot, and Clocktower Kid, immediately treating them as though they were her best friends.

🫣 Ghost 🏡

This extremely shy girl hides in the likeness of her stage, which resembles a quiet neighborhood with no other people to be seen. Once she opens up to the others, she shows a kinder and compassionate side to them.

⏳Timekeeper 🚫

Streetbeat and the others accidentally come across a lonely stage that was filled with drawings and time differences. In the distance, they encounter a young bespectacled girl who would rather be left alone. However, she becomes rather hostile when asked about the visions.

During their journey, The Grinning Man In A Top Hat leads the group to a secluded stage where the full moon always shines. In the center of the park, they found a solitary figure standing by the fountain. For some reason, she's the only resident in Wonderworld that doesn't trust Lance.

It's a music box in silver, with a mechanical singing bird. The box has enameled celestial designs.

It sings a song the Duke had never heard before (All Was Well by Wintergatan)

Intrigued by the music box, Edgar wasted no time in listening to its melody. After listening to the song, he was further impressed by how it was a mechanical bird that played the melody. Hence, he made a mental note to thank the Pierrot when he saw her again.

Harry as Pierrot

Hello, this is my rant on Pierrot and what I remember from school days (Pierrot was my first Carnival costume in primary school. This is very personal to me haha).

Before getting very philosophical, Pierrot is the “sad clown”. I remember learning his main characteristic was a teardrop on face.

Harry tonight has pearls for tears on his cheeks and forehead. X

In the history of Italian comedy, Pierrot is seen as a fool always pining on Columbine. He loves her but Columbine loves Harlequin. Sobs.

Among the critiques, this character is controversial. He was considered as a fool at the beginning, but he is just struggling to adapt to fit society standards. Eventually, the Symbolists saw him as a lonely fellow-sufferer, crucified upon the rood of soulful sensitivity, his only friend the distant moon; this is a very recurrent theme in Italian literature (eg Leopardi).

Pierrot became an alter-ego of the famously alienated artists of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Apparently (google says) Bowie said: I'm Pierrot, I'm Everyman”.

Pierrot but make it queer rockstar space clowns

I'm pretty positive, a pretty solid 82% positive, Harry's choice for Harryween night 2 to go with a Pierrot costume was at least in part fueled by David Bowie's portrayal of the character. I think Harry has shown his Bowie influence countless of times, more recently with his whole LOT uniform being a Bowie fit for one, and both Modern Love and Suffragette City being part of his current preshow playlist. I mean, I don't think the choice of this outfit was just that, but also that. I think he's a clown too. Just a clown. Being a joke. We're all a joke. I also think he's referencing just Pierrot alone without whatever other artists have been doing, wherever else it's been references (and it has been all over). But why not go here too, I mean why wouldn't he be influenced/nodding all of this, this this is Harry Styles we're talking about, so I wanna go to Jobriath as well. And I'm not saying Harry's influence extends from there too although he did was the first openly gay rockstar and my god with his need to reference everything gay in existence I wouldn't be surprised but I tumbled a lil too deep down the rabbit moon here to be going hey look I think there's a real intentional reference to this person specifically but regardless it's beautiful down/up here, so come join me. Summary of this article: basically he probably would've been a huge star but he was openly gay and the world wasn't ready for that.

There's probably loads more to this and I'm just scratching the surface here, but it's late and Bowie is a character (pun intended) that I'm nowhere near understanding let alone Jobriath. Hell I'm not even there on Harry and that clown owns way too much of my heart. Anyway I think at the very very least this gives a nice interpretation of pierrot and its symbolism in the eyes of two musicians, two people that in some or more regards have been living a life Harry can perhaps identify with.

So I’m italian and I’m 99% sure that’s not just a clown, that’s Pierrot, a stick character in the commedia dell’arte. It’s really famous here, kids dress up as him etc. I’m too tired to think deeply about the symbolism, but in the commedia dell’arte he’s usually a fool who pines for love and is the butt of the joke.

I was thinking the same about it looking like Pierrot. He's generally a very sad figure though, no? Like, lonely, suffering... only the moon for a friend, or something like that.

I have lots! And the reason I didn’t release most of them was because these are very personal songs that matched what I was going through at different times in my life that I couldn’t really talk about. And I didn’t want to talk about them either. You can say it was my private therapy.
