We've been here 6 months. Landed on 27 February with the intention of staying just a couple months with friends (new and old). Slowly almost all those friends have left. A core group of 3 families is all that remains, and one of them is leaving Wednesday for a new adventure as resients in Albania (one of the few countries allowing Ameicans to enter). 😪 We are so fortunate for many reasons... 1) To be stuck in a beautiful country that has handled the pandemic so well. 2) To have this amazing view from our balcony when we wake up every day. 3) To have had a strong (small but mighty) local support system during this time. 4) To have had long distance cheerleaders check up on us regularly. 5) To have remote work/income that allows us to remain safely outside the US as long as necessary while the pandemic and political unrest ravages our home country. 🥺 As we reflect on our unplanned time here, it's hard not to dwell on the plans that were cancelled. The travel we'd booked and have no idea when we will get to actually do it now. There are 4 months left in 2020. "We are made of Star Stuff." ~Carl Sagan This week is always gonna be a tough one for our Family. Two years ago we were with Our Gramps as he made his way over to the Other Side. Immediately after he took his last Breath we hustled over to his Shop to check on his Herd and shut down the Whitewash equipment for the Season because we couldn't just be "sittin' around". Yesterday, I busted out my Blue Sweatshirt that was at the bottom of my closest. Not thinking anything of it, I put it on and thought, "Geesh, haven't worn this Ol' Friend in a while". Opened up my Memory pictures for the day and there it was, in the picture of the last time I held Gramps' Hand. Funny how those things happen. "Oh, Hey Gramps." (Picture 10/10). Here we are, Two years later... Seems so long ago and just like yesterday all at once. Finishing up the 50th Season of Tom Harrison's Whitewashing Service, I absolutely know with all my Heart Our Gramps is proud of the way he raised Us all up and our Drive to keep things going as he would. The Farmers even tell Us all the Time, "We sure are Grateful you Girls are doing this, don't know what we'd do without ya." Truly is an Honor to shuffle around in his Boots, literally (my old Boots busted a little while ago and now I wear his old ones that he wore before he got the ones that @k8marie91209 wears). So, here's pieces of the last week before we wrap it up. We still got a couple of special jobs to use up the rest of our Whitewash, but we officially ended our Season with the Barn Gramps first started at.
