One of my first drawings on Deviant Art and a fanfiction was of the Loonatics who were trapped in the past in the era of the Tiny Toons (series from the 90s), with the reboot of the Tiny Toons series: Looniversity there is also a reboot of that fic, I don't think I'll write it but this is the concept.
One day out of nowhere, the Loonatics are seen as invaders by the inhabitants of planet Blanc, even Zodavia does not recognize them and they try to kill them, they quickly escape to Acmetropolis only to discover that something is happening on the planet, the place is being destroyed and The inhabitants are turning into monsters or disappearing, including their families, they receive a call from Dr. Fidel Chroniker who informs them that time has been affected in some way, the planet's past is changing and consequently the future is changing.
Going to the Dr.'s laboratory, he informs them that he discovered that someone traveled to the past and is changing it, causing catastrophes that affect his present, the only thing he was able to detect was that it began on the day of the Graduation of the Generation of 23-27 of the Acme University
The original idea was to go back in time to graduation day to stop whoever was doing this, unfortunately the change in time affected the machine just as the Loonatics crossed and arrived at the first day of school for generation 23-27 so that for the next 4 years they will have to take on staff work within the Looniversity to discover what has happened while at the same time living with the students and their ancestors without attracting attention
Jobs Tech - Computer and IT Teacher Duck - Lola Bunny's assistant in the kitchen Lexi - Assistant Cheerleading Coach Slam - Security Guard Ace - Janitor

Damn I'm really active today. Ok, ah. Loonatics relationships to each others PART 1;
1.ACE
-The person he respects the most is Mylene. Of course, because she's the leader and Mylene doesn't hate him. In general, he tries to gain her attention and respect. He often talks and trains with Mylene. Since neither of them have a father (Technically, Mylene has a father, but he is not her real father), they understand each other.
-His relationship with Duck is not good. He knows Duck is jealous of him. But he can't understand why he's jealous of this. Also, Mylene knows that the two of them are not on good terms, so she makes them training partners sometimes. Ace thinks this is a chance and tries to make Duck not hate him. Of course he cannot succeed. He's trying to make sure things are good between them.
-Already cousins with Lexi (In my au). Of course they are on good terms. And of course, there are cousin fights between them. He loves Lexi too. He turns to her for love advice.
-The person he hates the most on the team is Luna. There is always a rivalry between them because Ace is trying to attract Mylene's attention and Luna is trying to attract Mylene's attention because she is in love with Mylene. They're always picking on each other. Ace even calls Luna a "bag of shit" when she's not around. He can't say this, when she's around because no matter how much he hates her, he's still afraid of Luna.
-He's a little protective of Rev. You ask why? In the series (as much as I hated it), ACE WAS ALWAYS LEAVING REV BEHIND? Let's say the reason he left is because he cares about him. He always compares Rev to his father because of his eyes and behavior. However, he doesn't stand very close to him because he is afraid of Tech's deadly gaze. Rev and Ace are also the duo that goes places together the most. They usually go to watch matches or get ice cream. Which isn't much because Ace is a very indecisive person. Rev doesn't like it very much. Also, Rev doesn't like Ace very much either. His dislike is not like the others. He's mostly just angry at him for being left behind. Rev still comes on missions because Mylene picks him so often.
-He's pretty good with Slam. There is only one problem with Slam and that is that he eats too much. He thinks it's not good for him to eat so much. Slam and Mylene are the only people who don't hate Ace. Lexi doesn't count because she's his cousin. Anyway, why would Slam hate Ace anyway, right?
-It wouldn't be a lie if I said his relationship with Tech is the weirdest. So Ace doesn't hate Tech and respects his inventions. But he realizes that Tech is both acting normal towards him and is about to kill him. Why do you think? Of course, Ace is with Rev. That's why Ace tries not to get in the way. He's so scared of Tech he'll shit his pants. I told you his weirdest relationship is with Tech. He also has another problem. Tech Optimatus' favorite, Optimatus dislikes Ace. If he makes the slightest mistake, Ace will find himself in space. Fortunately, something like this won't happen, unless I do it. HAHAHAHAHA (*cough, cough) Sorry.
That's all for now. I will try to post it daily. Next is Duck.

“Thank you all again,” Wattney said as she finished escorting the team back up to the roof. “Had it not been for your work, the entire quadrant would have experienced a blackout, causing so much damage and endangering so many lives. I cannot stress how much I appreciate what you have done.”
“Aw, it was nothing,” Ace said. By now, his migraine lessened enough that he could open his eyes. “We’re heroes; It’s what we do.”
“Actually, it wasn’t nothing,” Duck huffed. “I got punched in the bill by a possessed coyote, nearly got blasted with boiling water, and fell onto my face from fifty feet in the air.” He crossed his arms, nodding toward Wattney. “So I will accept your gratitude. You’re welcome, by the way.”
“Ace was trying to be humble,” Lexi said to him under her breath.
“No, it is completely fair to be upset over those unfortunate circumstances,” Wattney said. “I apologize that you had to go through those things, and thank you for your contributions.”
“I uh, well…” Duck rubbed his neck. “I-It was nothing! I’m a hero, after all!”
Ace and Lexi snorted at his turnaround.
The wormhole for heading back to HQ opened high above their heads. Slam pointed up to it and grunted to get the team’s attention.
“Hey Duck, want me to take you back right now?” Rev immediately asked.
“Yes please,” he responded emphatically.
Rev flew into the air so Duck could grab his ankles, but was stopped by Wattney’s shout.
“Wait!”
With a whine, he landed back on the ground.
“Rev, I am terribly sorry about what you went through,” she said. “I am so grateful that you continued to help us despite everything. If there is anything I can do to make it up to you, I will do it.”
“Just… try to keep the generator running,” he said before flying up again.
“See you guys back at HQ!” Duck said, grabbing onto Rev before being carried through the wormhole.
“What I said applies to you as well, Tech,” Wattney said, drawing his attention. “I am grateful for your immense amount of help, and terribly sorry for what you went through.”
“Don’t worry about it,” he said, waving her off with his free hand. “That wasn’t my first mind control rodeo. It happens when you’ve got a brain everyone wishes they had!” He let out a weak laugh, ending in an awkward cough.
“Still,” Wattney continued, “if there’s any way to make it up to you, I will.”
“What Rev said,” Tech insisted, adjusting the hand that carried his briefcase, as well as a trash bag filled with the trashed jetpacks. “Just keep the place running, and we’ll be good.”
With that, Tech walked over to Slam who was patiently waiting off to the side. “You mind taking me back first?” he asked.
Slam shook his head, kneeling down so Tech could get on his shoulders. Being the only person left with a functioning jetpack, he had accepted his duty to fly the rest of the team through the wormhole without issue.
Rev was supposed to help too, but clearly, he wasn’t up to making multiple trips right now.
Tech gave a “goodbye” to Wattney as Slam lifted off the ground.
“Lexi,” Wattney pointed out next, “I must personally thank you for taking good care of Joule. And also for returning Volten’s synapper to him. It means so much that you treated them with kindness, even after how they hurt you and your friends.”
“Well, even if they aren’t too great to us, it wouldn’t have been fair to be mean to those little creatures that only want to help.”
Joule chirred happily.
Slam landed by Lexi’s side, already kneeling to let her up.
“I guess it’s time for me to go!” She hopped onto Slam’s shoulders, waving at Wattney. “Goodbye!”
As Slam and Lexi went into the air, only Ace and Wattney were left.
“Ace, thank you for bringing your team here to help us. I think I could learn a lot from how you handled your team when things became dire.”
“That’s very flattering Wattney, but I think we’re just used to things being dire after two years of doing this stuff. My commands are only as good as the people following them.”
“And it seems I have much to go over with my employees. Perhaps I should enforce monthly drills…” She hummed in thought. “I’ll figure out the logistics once everything is cleaned up.”
“You don’t mind, right? I offered to clean-”
“-You already did so much today,” she insisted. “Let me do the bare minimum of letting you relax after a long day’s work. You’ll finally have a chance to take something for your headache.”
“That would be nice…” Ace said, still feeling a throb of pain every so often.
Slam made his way back again, landing next to Ace.
“Ah, Slam. I must personally thank you as well,” Wattney said. “Even after working yourself to total exhaustion, you still went back to continue heating the boiler with what little energy you had left. It was clearly a tremendous effort and I appreciate what you did.”
Slam mumbled to himself, entirely flattered.
“Well Slam,” Ace announced, “think it’s time we head back?”
He nodded, letting Ace hop onto him as well.
“Goodbye you two!” Wattney called as they flew into the sky.
“Goodbye Wattney! It was a pleasure to help!”
And with that, the entire team was back at HQ and the wormhole closed.
~
Tech looked up at the lab door again. How many times he glanced up from his repairs to the door, he lost count. Whether the number was large from the length of time he waited or the number of times he looked, he didn’t know. The thought of checking a clock to find out filled him with too much dread to try.
Sighing, he continued his work. What Rev said during the chase came true; He did come to regret breaking all the things he built later.
Though, that wasn’t the only thing he was regretting right now.
Pushing the jetpack he was working on forward, Tech crossed his arms onto the workbench and rested his head on top, letting out a low whine.
“I really did ruin everything, didn’t I?”
Sure, it was mostly the synapper’s fault. Sure, Rev probably understands that under normal circumstances, he would never violate his boundaries like that. And sure, while Rev might not have known that their relationship was such a pressing issue in his mind, Rev would probably be able to accept and ignore that somewhat easily.
But… the actual experience of being chased down for a kiss… that is probably going to stick in his mind for a while. No amount of rational thought can remove that kind of bad memory. And such a memory will definitely negatively influence Rev’s willingness to ever consider dating him. Heck… by the looks of it… Rev already doesn’t even want to speak with him anymore.
Tech craned his neck to hide his face in his arms. He was a fast enough worker. He could give himself time to sulk now and finish repairing everything later.
A part of him wanted to blame Duck for this. But, while using a kiss to convince Rev to date him was definitely influenced by him, had Duck not said anything, Tech is certain he would have done something equally stupid while possessed. Besides, blaming Duck wouldn’t fix anything. It wouldn’t make Rev stop avoiding him.
Though, Tech wished he knew what would. Rev might have said he’d meet him later, but that was clearly a fluke. He was hoping he’d have a chance to explain things. Maybe convince Rev that nothing has to change between them… But clearly, everything already had.
Then, an ear flicked as the sound of a metallic door opening caught his attention. He looked up and-
It was Rev.
“Hey,” Tech greeted cautiously.
“Hey,” Rev greeted back in a similar manner.
Tech slowly lifted himself off the workbench, but Rev continued to stand in the doorway.
“So… you’re… willing to talk to me?”
“I… uh… Yeah… I guess…”
They stood in place… quiet, eyes averted, for several long seconds. Tech opened his mouth to ask Rev to close the door, but didn’t follow through.
Finally, Rev glanced back at the opened doorway and sighed shakily, before stepping forward and letting it automatically close. However, that was as far as he went.
After waiting a few more seconds, Tech accepted that this was the best he was going to get, and decided to get on with what he wanted to say.
“I’m… sorry about all the stuff I did,” Tech said, rubbing his arm. “Even if my inhibitions were altered by the synapper, the actions I took while under its power still happened, and represented my desires regardless.”
Rev shifted in place, remaining silent by the door.
Taking a deep breath, Tech continued.
“I put you through a lot of distress, and I won’t ask you to forgive me for it. I just want you to know that… that this doesn’t have to change anything between us.”
“Doesn’t have to change anything?!” Rev shouted, throwing up his hands. “This changes everything! ”
“Rev-!”
“You can’t just admit to secretly having the desire to eat me and then expect me to ignore that!-”
“-Wait what?-”
“-I mean seriously that isn’t just something I can brush aside!-”
“-Hold on-”
“-With how smart you are I can’t believe how dumb you think I am!-”
“-I WANTED TO KISS YOU, REV!”
“Wh-” Rev choked on his words, blinking in shock.
Then.
“You seriously thought I wanted to eat you?!”
“Uh…” Rev stood with his jaw hanging for a moment. Then, his eyes shifted to the side, and he cowered slightly. “Oh…”
“Unbelievable,” Tech huffed. Then, he crossed his arms. “Actually, you know what? It’s entirely believable. Why else would my forcefully uninhibited mind cause me to chase after you? Because I really wanted to kiss my best friend of two years? Pshh! Yeah right! Obviously it was because I had some deep dark desire to eat him. After all, it would be ridiculous for a roadrunner to date a coyote, right?”
“I thought,” Rev said weakly, “you felt lucky that I wouldn’t be into you, after what you said last year…”
“Yeah, well, I changed my mind.” He turned away, closing his eyes. “And I hoped that… maybe you did too. But clearly, I was wrong.”
“You weren’t!” Rev yelped, rushing forward and accidentally slamming into the opposite end of the worktable. Quickly recovering, he rearranged the displaced materials and stood straight, opening his mouth to speak. However, nothing came out.
Tech glanced over his shoulder, giving an unimpressed frown before sighing. His head hung toward his crossed arms, ears drooping. “I don’t know why you feel the need to lie. Regardless of your feelings, I think you’ve made it clear that you’d never consider dating me. That my species and gender are a deal breaker to you.”
“I…”
Silence.
“What’re you standing there for? Leave me alone so I can get back to work.” He let out a laugh in dark humor. “Besides, I missed lunch. You probably wouldn’t want to stick around while I’m hungry.”
Tech stood there, listening for a sign that Rev was leaving, but heard nothing. Then, when he opened his mouth to make another remark, Rev spoke before he could.
“I’m sorry, Tech…”
Ears tried to perk up in curiosity, but Tech quickly trained himself back to his aloof, but secretly alert, pose.
Rev sighed shakily, his voice forced into being even. “I was so focused on denying that I had feelings for you… that I didn’t even realize I was hurting you with everything I was saying. Despite how much I care, and would like to… date… you, nothing I’ve said has shown that…” He swallowed thickly, rubbing his arm. “Just because I have some weird hang ups about being with a coyote and a guy… that doesn’t mean it’s inherently wrong. And… immediately assuming you wanted to eat me… I think… is just a sign of a larger problem deep down that I need to deal with…” A deep breath. “Whatever happens after this, I just want you to know that I really am sorry, Tech. I promise I’ll start thinking things through and… working on my coyote issues. And, if there’s anything I can do to make it up to you, I will.”
There was a pause.
“Anything?” Tech said darkly.
“Um…” Rev gulped. “Y-Yes. Anything.”
Snorting in good humor, Tech turned around and placed his hand on a jetpack. “Help me patch up my poor babies.”
Rev lit up. “Uh, y-yeah! I can do that!” Swinging around, he got into position beside Tech. Then, he looked up at him, smiling sheepishly. “Uh, is this… okay? Did you want me to help somewhere else?”
“Relax,” Tech said, sliding him the jetpack. “That’s the second thing you can do to make it up to me.”
“Okay,” Rev peeped, taking some tools and getting to work.
Soon, the air was filled with various metallic sounds. But, a noticeable lack of someone’s voice left an uneasy atmosphere.
Tech quirked a brow, glancing at Rev.
“You know I said ‘relax’, and not ‘be quiet’, right?”
“…Do you want me to talk?”
“I don’t want you to force yourself to be quiet.”
“Oh…” Rev looked away, before giving him a sheepish smile. “Sorry. I sorta thought you had enough of me talking for today.”
“What makes you think that?”
“Well I mean with all the times you forced me to shut up and yelled at me for-” The rest of his sentence got caught in his throat. He let out a strangled, nervous laugh. “Sorry. Nevermind. I just realized how dumb I was being. I don’t wanna make this about me.”
“Then I’ll make it about you.” After a moment of thought, Tech sighed. “I do like hearing you talk, Rev. You always understand what I’m saying and have something informed to add. It’s just that, sometimes, you keep going despite the detriment to the current mission or even to your own safety. And sometimes you say so much even I have problems processing everything you’ve said. And then there are your terrible attempts to deny your feelings that just end up making you look worse.”
“If talking so much is at best extremely annoying and at worst actively making things more dangerous, aren’t you justified in stopping me?”
“Not by physically restraining you,” Tech asserted. He turned away, his posture dropping with guilt. “If you’re really in danger, I know that shouting loud enough will get your attention. And you’ve already promised to work on how you talk about me. That just leaves you saying so much so fast in regular conversation… which definitely doesn’t warrant such an extreme reaction from me.”
“It’s not… that extreme…”
“Rev.”
Tech faced him head on, making sure he had his full attention before continuing.
“Yelling at you… grabbing your beak… it isn’t right. I’ve always noticed how much it kills your mood… and just ignored it. Selfishly.” He sighed. “So, I’m sorry, Rev. I want my actions to reflect how much I care about you too. There shouldn’t be any question that you’re the greatest friend I could ever hope to have, even if you still have some things to work on.”
“Yeah.” Looking away, he blushed slightly. “Thank you.”
“It’s nothing, Rev. Just like anyone else, you deserve basic respect, especially if I ever hope to be someone worth going out with.”
“Okay.”
Rev rubbed his arm awkwardly.
Tech eyed him curiously. “Something up?”
“Well it’s…” Anxiously, he brought his gaze to Tech. “What… happens now?”
“We fix the jetpacks I regretfully destroyed?”
“No, I mean…” Rev’s eyes drifted as he collected his thoughts. “I mean, I know that you tried to kiss me… And… you know that I want to… date… you.”
“Oh.” Tech pursed his lips, before continuing his work. “Before this all started, I was trying to say that nothing had to change between us, and it’s still true.” His hands paused briefly, and he let out a sigh. “Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m under the impression you’re still not the most comfortable with the thought of actually dating me.”
“You’re… right…” Rev admitted.
“So, I’m not going to pressure you into it. If you want to start going down that path, then you can decide when we take the first step. Until then, we can be good friends who happen to have feelings for each other.”
“That… sounds okay.”
“Good. Now, let’s finish this up so I can get back to building new things, rather than repairing old ones.”
“Alright.”
They began to work more comfortably, sometimes passing a specialty tool to the other when they needed it. Though, as they started to get into a good rhythm, something began eating away at the back of Rev’s mind.
“Hey, Tech?”
“Yeah?”
“Um,” he smiled sheepishly, “so I was kinda… fearing too much for my life after you caught me, so I didn’t actually see how you managed to get that synapper off.”
“Oh,” Tech said.
“So… how’d you do it? It was on for good until it wanted to come off. How’d you get it to?”
“I uh… I’m not sure…” Tech bit his lip, running those events through his head. “Though… I might have a hypothesis…”
Putting down his tools, Tech focused his thoughts entirely on his words.
“So, immediately after I had you restrained with that metal pole, I was working under the assumption that you were totally okay with me kissing you, or at the very least, just a little nervous about it. So, of course, the synapper would have been under the same impression as well, given that it was simply taking information from my own brain.”
Laughing sadly, he rubbed his arm.
“But then,” he said, “as soon as I got close… you begged me to stop. Started crying. There… wasn’t any way I could interpret that as being just a little shy. As soon as I saw that, I knew you weren’t okay with any of it.” Tech coughed into his arm awkwardly. “Though, of course, I only thought that meant you didn’t want a kiss. I didn’t know that you thought I was gonna eat you.”
Rev coughed awkwardly as well. “Y-Yeah…”
“Anyway,” Tech slowly continued, “seeing you crying like that… so scared of me touching you… I think it reminded me that kissing you wasn’t… what I really wanted.” Face flushed red, he looked away. “What I wanted… more than anything… was for us to stay together… regardless of what kind of relationship we had…” He cleared his throat and ran a hand over his ears. “So… with that realization, the synapper figured out it wasn’t helping and loosened enough that I could pull it off.”
Laughing nervously, he picked up his tools again. “But that’s just my best guess. Maybe it got tired or something, heh heh…”
Tech hunched over his work, pretending like that conversation didn’t happen. The air was silent for a few moments, nothing but the sounds of Tech working filling the air.
Then.
“Hey, maybe we could go somewhere after this.”
Tech’s head shot up and his eyes locked on Rev, entirely speechless.
“L-Lunch! I mean. Go out on a lunch- I MEAN out to lunch! Not on a date- not that I said anything about a date- not that going on a date would be bad but- FORGET ABOUT THE DATE THING! Just two friends having lunch- even if it’s technically closer to dinner but dinner sounds too formal so just lunch- and there are no expectations of it being romantic and why aren’t you stopping me Tech?!”
Tech smirked, crossing his arms. “I said I wasn’t gonna stop you, didn’t I?”
“Y-Yes you did! But that means that I have to be the one to stop talking and even if it really hurts to be shushed sometimes I might end up saying something embarrassing if I keep talking- and there you are still letting me talk- and am I even saying anything anymore- Back on topic! The date-! I MEAN THE LUNCH- I MEAN FRIENDS HAVING LUNCH-!”
Placing his hand on Rev’s shoulder cut off his rant. “Lunch sounds great,” Tech said simply.
“Haha! Yeah! Awesome!”
Finally, they both returned to their work. Though, as time passed, Rev slowly sidled up to Tech until they were touching shoulders.
Tech didn’t mind whatsoever.
~
“So wait, Rev seriously thought Tech was trying to eat him?”
“Well, yeah. That’s why he flew past me screaming, ‘Tech is trying to eat me help’.”
“Hmm. I guess that explains why he was acting weird after the whole thing.” Duck tapped his bill in thought. “…Are you sure he isn’t stupid?”
Lexi sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “No, Duck. Just ignorant.”
“That’s basically the same thing, isn’t it?”
Lexi opened her mouth to counter, but the sound of the lab door opening got her attention. She looked in the direction of it as chuckles filled the air.
“Is it just disproportionate gravitational force,” Rev smooth talked, “or are your eyes just the Great Attractor?”
Tech snickered softly. “You must be traveling at the speed of light, because whenever I look at you, time seems to stop.”
A flattered chuckle got caught in Rev’s throat as he and Tech finally walked within sight of Lexi and Duck.
“Oh. Uh. Hi!” Rev greeted.
“Hey guys!” Lexi greeted back with a wave.
“Okay that was totally flirting, right?” Duck muttered to Lexi. “Like, come on.”
“So! Did you guys finish up the repairs, then?”
“Hey! Don’t ignore me!”
“We sure did,” Tech said. “Though, I didn’t know you guys were going to be here, otherwise I would’ve grabbed your stuff from the lab before coming.”
“I’ll grab everything!” Rev said before rushing to the lab.
“Hey Tech!” Duck called, not waiting for a reply. “Did you try out my advice?”
“Under the synapper’s mind control, I suppose an attempt was made.”
“So it helped, right?”
“No,” Tech stated flatly. “In fact, if I actually succeeded, it would have caused irreparable damage to my relationship with Rev.”
“Wait…” Lexi said, side eyeing Duck. “What advice?”
Duck faltered. “Um… Hoo… Er…”
Rev returned, setting two jetpacks on the coffee table.
“There ya go! Everything’s all good to go which means Tech and I are good to go because right now we’re going out to lunch- Not like out like on a-” Rev paused, thinking to himself. “We’re having lunch. That’s all.”
Tech gave a subtle nod of approval.
Rev smiled. “Well, time to go!”
He was immediately by Tech’s side, but as soon as they reached for the door it was opened by Ace and Slam.
“Hey Tech! Hey Rev!”
“Hey Ace we’re having lunch- Actually wait a sec-!”
Rev took off toward the lab again.
Ace smiled. “Rev seems excited; Definitely better than the glum mood he was in only an hour ago.”
“Well, a nice chat can solve a lot of problems as it turns out.”
In a flash, Rev was back and Ace’s jetpack was shoved into his arms with barely any time to react.
“There, now you have your jetpack so there are no distractions so Tech and I are gonna go now bye!”
With that Tech exclaimed “woah!” as Rev picked him up bridal style and rushed out the door with him.
“Real excited,” Ace commented, walking toward the others with Slam. “I wonder what’s up with that.”
“Well obviously they’re going on a date,” Duck stated.
“That’s not what Rev just said.”
Slam nodded.
“Yeah, well of course he’s gonna say that. I bet he doesn’t even know it’s a date.”
“If he doesn’t think it’s a date then it’s not a date,” Ace retorted.
“Duck,” Lexi warned, “what ‘advice’ did you give Tech?”
“What’re you talking about Lexi?” Ace asked.
“Duck here let slip that he gave Tech a little advice behind our backs, and Tech said something about it possibly ruining his relationship with Rev.”
Ace slowly turned his head toward Duck, glaring. “What did you tell him, Duck?”
“Well… you know…” Duck smiled sheepishly, his head lowering at each scowl his eyes landed on. “Tech said that Rev and him obviously loved each other, so I told him to just go up to Rev and smooch him already.”
“Why would you tell him to do that?!”
“He said Rev needed time to figure himself out and I thought a kiss would make him do it faster!”
“Ugh.” Ace pinched the bridge of his nose. Lexi and Slam shared the sentiment. “Duck, that is the worst love advice I’ve heard in my entire life. Did Tech even ask for advice in the first place?”
“Of course not. Most people don’t just ask for advice when they don’t even know they need it!”
Lexi groaned. “Did it ever occur to you that you shouldn’t tell people how to deal with their personal lives without asking?”
“No. Why? Is it bad?”
“YES!” everyone else said unanimously.
“Geesh… I was just trying to help.”
“Rev and Tech don’t need our help,” Ace said. “By the looks of it, I think they’re just fine how they are.”
“Ugh, but it’s so pathetic. Are you telling me I’m gonna be forced to watch them do nothing about their obvious feelings and I can’t say anything about it?”
“Yes. That is exactly what I’m saying.”
Duck looked to Lexi and Slam for support, but they were both clearly on Ace’s side.
He threw his head back, moaning out, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Meanwhile, Rev and Tech couldn’t hear any of it, because they were too busy happily on their way to a late lunch.

Deuce in the Loonatics Reboot because i wish they did more with his character
Grew up in poverty; orphaned after his parents died in a mining accident; & spent the next few years as a vagabond
In this au he used to be the Yellow Loonatic but lost his position when he conspired against Zadavia
So already he has a much larger presence compared to canon
Eventually he was recruited into the army for his unique fighting style and tracking capabilities
Because of his past he had a disdain for the Frelengese nobility seeing them as heartless against those of the lower class
Deuce was knighted by receiving a precious royal heirloom: the Guardian Strike Sword.
After becoming General he hatched a scheme to overthrow the monarchy to place himself in power; he did this by tricking the royal siblings into giving him access data to the wormhole system
When he was discovered he was caught and tried for treason but as Zadavia considered him like a son to her she decided to exile him hoping he could find peace outside their planet
Angry at this Deuce swore revenge; he spent the following years alone training on different planets; creating his own version of the Guardian Strike Sword called the "Golden Reaper"
While Deuce makes very good points about the apathy of the aristocracy ultimately his blind anger leads to his downfall
So after he is defeated he is imprisoned but Princess Mikayla vows to make sure there are reforms to benefit Freleng's working class
This MIGHT set up a possible redemption for him? He still don't like the monarchy but at most the other characters understand and empathize with him
Design: looks the same as in canon but his suit is more streamlined: his scarf and accents are golden yellow to be uniform with Ace&hint his status as a former Tic
I need to draw it 😜
Powers: Used to have the same as Ace but they were taken from him; now he's just REALLY GOOD at swords, firearms and manipulation
Basically I don't want to pull a Jet/Hama/Sasuke is what Im saying

My 2nd Announcement
After the post, I made on Tumblr that I saved the Loonatics R from deletion and made my first announcement on Wattpad its time I might as well for my 2nd announcement. If you have not read my first announcement in Wattpad be sure to check it out. Note that this is a long announcement
When I saved the fanfics in Wattpad it had gained more than 100 reads in Wattpad. Mostly it is episode 1 of Loonatics R and has most of the highest rankings depending on the hotness tags like the word tag #tunes takes on the number one spot and #warnerbrothers too. So I like to give thanks for reading Purple's fanfic and a lot of likes and reblogs in my previous post so with a do. Here are the upcoming fanfics that I plan for the future.
I also want to give thanks to my sister for making the book covers. The rest will be in the next future. So here are the fanfics coming soon that I like to share. Note that there will be no promises on release dates
Tumblr media
Loonatics K.R. - Also known as Loonatics Kervin's Revamp is the same story of PurpleLuckStar's Loonatics R but additional content and changes of the story.
Me and @draze-a worked and talk about it together on Discord to change some of the chapters and episodes of the story. It was supposed to be a sequel for Episode 2 Chapter 6 but it is now on hold. Think about it like its Justice League's Snyder Cut
This book title is just only a working title. I may possibly change it with the help of my sister again.
Tumblr media
Loonatics X Fire Pro Wrestling World: The Loonatics Road - The Loonatics Road takes place after the events of 3 fighting roads of Fire Pro Wrestling World. Heavyweight, Junior Heavyweight, and Champion Road Beyond. Set in Fire Pro Wrestling World is a story about a male wrestler who is now a general manager who wants to start his own wrestling promotion alongside his former female uber taxi driver and now a referee. When they were about to find some talent for his wrestling promotion a spaceship has crashed nearby his own arena and when they investigate the crash they met the Loonatics but without the superpowers for unknown reasons. The only way to survive like food to eat, water to drink, clothing to wear, shelter to stay, and fix the ship is that they have to work for him to make the biggest brand possible.
Now as you may wonder why I am making fanfic of Loonatics with Fire Pro Wrestling World? Well, there are so many answers to tell. First off is because Space Jam had actual real-life NBA players like Michael Jordan and Lebron James. However, the first movie may be fun to watch but it always gives me a head-scratcher like why Looney Tune Land was in the underground? Why is it in the Serververse? Is this a sequel or a reboot? There are so many questions that I really want to know why. But this one I am making is like Space Jam but wrestling with the other way around. As I said in the first announcement in Wattpad I have not completed all the fighting roads in Fire Pro Wrestling World so it will be in the next future. And I will be focusing on my created original Fire Pro OCs so official wrestlers in rosters like SWA, NJPW, and STARDOM will be on the next book. Think of this fanfic as they added a movie editor just like the SmackDown vs Raw games. And maybe in the future, I may add Pierre Le Pew that needs a rewrite, redesign, and more than just a chairman or gm of his own wrestling federation and knows how to fight just like Crow from Def Jam Fight For New York. So this may or may not be a continuation of Loonatics K.R. But don't worry I will try my best to make the best writing possible while playing Fire Promoter mode.
I may have plans to use create a wrestler in the game. But I am going to first create my original characters while completing all 3 fighting roads. But also needed help who is good at making mask and face mods in Steam Workshop
So anyway that is it for my 2nd announcement. It may sound and looked the same but it had the book covers. I was planning to make my announcement very long and to put about Non-Loonatics Fanfics so please bear with me for the 3rd post about the other fanfics
Don't forget to follow me on Tumblr and Wattpad here.

on my shelf: soundtrack to MA year 1 - winter
...well. I wasn’t really planning on doing an MA, and especially not the one I’m doing (which is essentially just a continuation of my BA course), but thanks to the, you know, circumstances, we have ended up here. So this series continues! Let’s just jump in, shall we?
BTS: BE (2020)
BE is the product of living through the first months of the pandemic and a time where the members suddenly didn’t have a tour to go on and couldn’t even perform for fans locally. On it they work through all the different emotions this novel situation brought with it, but in a way that we can relate to as well. The album is filled with different emotions - frustration, sadness, loneliness, but also love, hope and trust. As each member has put in his own personal touches on everything from the music to the physical album design and the rollout, this is their most personal album yet. It’s much calmer at its core but that doesn’t mean it’s any less concert ready. It has a very nice flow as well - starting at the small frustrations and acceptance of the pandemic, a short skit thrown in as a moment to breathe and as a nod to their early albums, then continuing with fun songs that look to the future in the second half, ending triumphantly with Billboard Hot 100 topper and Grammy nominated “Dynamite”. BE is the perfect encapsulation of pandemic life and a great comforting listen when you’re trying to start your day in the midst of all of this.
Tomorrow x Together: Minisode 1: Blue Hour (2020)
TXT continue to explore their musical possibilities on this mini album with the dream-pop/indie opener “Ghosting”, the disco inspired “Blue Hour”, the tropical house of “We Lost The Summer”, the stadium-ready pop-rock anthem “Wishlist” and the R&B inspired “Way Home” with its unusual beat. It’s an album full of longing for the pre-pandemic life, from a very youthful point of view. TXT are very good at embodying all the different genres they are tackling here, giving it a very rounded feeling, and that only two years into their career.
Loona: 12:00 (2020)
On 12:00 Loona are taking on more different styles than in previous group releases, but are staying in K-Pop territory. Lead single “Why Not?” has the same punchy, cheeky, but cool attitude as “So What” from their previous mini-album. The other songs remind me somewhat of Red Velvet and ITZY releases while maintaining that signature Loona sound, mostly courtesy of their unique voices. “Voice” or “Star”, which are the same song but the former is in Korean while the latter is in English, stand out though, as they are the closest to the Loona sound we know from previous albums, while also sounding fresh, kind of like a marriage of the two sonic spaces.
Epik High: Epik High Is Here [part 1] (2021)
I mentioned in a previous post that I was trying to get into Epik High more and I’m only making slow progress through their back catalogue, but I’ve definitely listened to their newest album a LOT of times. It has a brilliant flow from contemplative songs to confident songs and back and forth without throwing you off. There’s nods to older songs that tie them together in new ways, or continue a series into a new direction (like “Lesson Zero”). As always, Epik High has brought on amazing guest vocalists like Heize and GSoul, whose vocals add to the overall melancholic leanings of the album’s sound. The Epik High members’ voices are so distinct and full of emotion that it’s overall very enjoyable to listen to.
LOONA/Odd Eye Circle: Max & Match (2017)
I listened to a lot of Loona this semester, just in general, but at one point all music distributed by Kakao M was taken off Spotify for a while, which included almost all of Epik High, IU, and Loona’s music (so almost everything I was listening to at the time...). A lot of Loona’s pre-full group debut music was still up though, so I took the chance to explore that, and got stuck on Odd Eye Circle’s album. The sub-unit’s members’ (Kim Lip, Choerry, JinSoul) solo songs are also my favourites of all the solos, which makes sense since they’re all a similar style. Max & Match is a very interesting pop album that leans heavily into a more indie-pop and dream pop style. While “Girl Front” is very much what I would define as a girl group sound (a fun, light-hearted love song), “Loonatic” is very dreamy with an almost creepy undertone, featuring lyrics like “I am not insane” and vocals that aren’t super clear. They really experimented a lot with the pop form on this album, which they also did on the girls’ solo songs (I especially recommend Choerry’s “Love Cherry Motion” if you want to hear more of that - it has about 3 distinct soundscapes that somehow work together so well).
ITZY: Not Shy (2020)
I keep forgetting that Itzy released another album in 2020 because I didn’t particularly like the electronic sound they leaned into, but I was fully on board for Not Shy. The title track is super catchy and confident, a staple of their sound. The next songs are also very typically Itzy - loud, confident, fun. But this album also sees them exploring new directions, featuring the city pop inspired “Surf” and their first obvious, ballad-y love song “Be In Love”. They can totally pull off the softer, calmer styles, as well as the louder, more confident ones, so I hope they keep exploring new things.
IU: LILAC (2021)
This album was only released like two weeks ago but I love it so much that I decided to include it here. It’s IU’s first release in a while (she only released a song or two in 2020) so she’s had some time to think about where she is in life and how she wants to go forward. This album shows her trying out some new styles, like the cool, confident, trumpet-laden “Coin”, the minimal pop of “Flu”, and the summer fun of “Ah puh”. But of course, the classic ballads are present too, like with the devastating and theatric “My sea”, which is really built up like an emotional musical number with different acts, but it stays relatively grounded and doesn’t come off quite as over-the-top as a lot of musical numbers (imo) do. In general the album has a spring theme in the sense that it’s at once an ending and a new beginning, seeing as this is the last album IU will release in her 20s. “Epilogue” describes it the best, wherein she asks the listener, in a very relaxed and self-assured manner, if they enjoyed their time with her, and if they’ll keep listening to her stories in the future too. I think we know my answer to that.
Special Mentions:
IU’s Palette (2017) and Love Poem (2019); Epik High’s sleepless in _____ (2019) and We’ve Done Something Wonderful (2017); Twice’s Eyes Wide Open (2020); Sunmi’s “Tail” and “What The Flower” (2021); Hayley Williams’ Flowers for Vases / descansos (2021); Jamie’s “Apollo 11″ (2020); j-hope’s “Blue Side” (2021); Jin’s “Abyss” (2020); Gowon’s “SeeSaw” (2018); Taylor Swift’s folklore and evermore (2020)

This is Cassie K'road, also known as the dangerous assassin, Arsenic. I thought about going with Arsonic, but that looks less like a pun and more like I don't know how to spell.
Her colors and suit design are partially inspired by Lexi Bunny from the old, obscure WB cartoon, Loonatics Unleashed. I used to love that show...
I'm going to try doing a cut on the mobile app, but it doesn't have the button that the website does for that, so let's see if this works.
She's a mix of an old OC of mine and a Darkwing Duck fan character I never got around to making. In the context of the old show, she was an antihero assassin figure who specialized in eliminating corrupt figures. Drake hired her to babysit Gosalyn without knowing her job, and Gos keeps it a secret for her. She's frequently hunted by Darkwing for her violent methods of eliminating crime, and is ironically very friendly and cheerful towards everyone in general.
In the new DuckTales context, she was hired by the Beagle Boys to scope out Scrooge's vault, believing him a corrupted figure. So she gets herself taken in as the duck triplets' babysitter, grows attached to the family, and eventually tells the Beagles to Suck It by making a snafu plan that leads to the group getting arrested. Scrooge is so impressed, he hires her permanently as babysitter and secret family bodyguard. The pay is plenty for her to do her corruption-eliminating at night.
In both cases, Negaduck becomes her next target at some point. It leads to a series of events involving NegaGosalyn being in danger (in the first series) or the triplets (second series) and Darkwing learning to trust her because she protects the kids, and Negaduck becoming a reluctant ally due to... Something or other. It's hard to figure out what isn't Mary Sue-ish or OOC. Maybe they get stranded and have to rely on each other to survive in a radioactive jungle, I dunno.
Cassie is super sugary and sweet. She's chipper, loves kids, and gives off the impression of being naive and innocent. Even suited up, it's hard to remember that she's killed a lot of people. She's supposed to be the gentle contrast to Negaduck's psychotic nature. He super duper wants to kill her at first, but she stubbornly worms her way into being almost tolerable to him. Almost. He still kind of really wants to kill her, but he feels that way about everyone.

i think it was two sundays ago i made my list where i rated the loona solo songs? and then last sunday i re-ordered them slightly. did i miss a week there? it feels like that was longer ago haha
um so this time around like i think the only thing i’d change is moving vivid down three spots from 5 to 8. it was 10 on my first list, then it shot up a lot, but im cooling on it a little bit. when i started listening for the complexity in it i was wild about it, but at the end of the day, i dont think i like it more than some of the others haha. its good tho and i appreciate that still. i guess also i mean idk 2 and 3 are kinda interchangeable for me. a lot of them are actually haha, i like them all a lot
so:
1 egoist, 2~3 heart attack and one&only (pretty much tied), 4 love cherry motion, 5 edily, 6 new, 7 around you, 8 vivid, 9 kiss later, 10 let me in, 11 singing in the rain, 12 eclipse.
its so hard cause oh man i wanna rate them all so high on the list lol, let me in doesnt deserve to be that low... and eclipse is still growing on me but i still think its not really something im wild about :( i know its a huge fan favorite and i totally get that, i think a lot of people like oec in general more than me too haha. i like their b-sides and lcm a LOT but yeah. im also not wild about sweet crazy love and i think thats a pretty unpopular opinion haha. i’m just a hardcore yyxy bitch tho lmao, i’m all about their sound. i think oec’s b-sides actually remind me a bit more of yyxy-type tracks, i wonder if the producers were thinking when they made loonatic and odd front and uncover like “oh man we should just do the next unit more dreampop and ethereal like this”
i think my top 5 is pretty solid tho. i’m confident that that won’t change much. i probably won’t do another ranking of these next week because it wont be interesting to just keep doing the same songs all the time, but maybe i’ll finally get around to adding the rest of the main unit and full group singles. ive tried to make like a top 20 or something, or even just a top 10 overall loona songs, but i havent thought enough about that lol.
edit/correction/retraction: oh okay so sweet crazy love just came up in the shuffled playlist im listening to, and i think the part i dont like about it is the ending, i dont feel like it goes anywhere, it just kinda tapers off. thats why it leaves me feeling like kind of a shrug haha. that’s the exact same thing as eclipse for me lol. but the rest of both of those songs is really good, i liked listening to scl just now.

SEPTEMBER 2018 BC ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW
Note: As always, individual schedules are up to roleplayers within reason. Any major individual schedules, especially those related to points claims, should be cleared with the main first. These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.
Please like this to let me know you’ve seen your muse’s schedule.
Overall company
The company concerts last month brought in good profits and good media coverage and the court battle with Goeun has been kept out of the media for the first part lately (partially in thanks to BC’s own meddling), the hit taken from losing a member from one of their girl groups is fading at an optimistic rate.
Reminder: Following the news of the lawsuit with Goeun, BC has made it clear to all idols under them that speaking about the lawsuit publicly (be it through interviews, variety shows, or social media) is strictly prohibited.
September Company Schedules:
September 23-25: Chuseok (Idols will have time off from all schedules to spend with family or friends to celebrate the holiday).
Decipher
Their repackage release has been scheduled for December as a holiday present to their fans, so studio recording begins in earnest this month, meaning Decipher is working on a more relaxed schedule for their comeback than most of BC’s groups get the privilege of..
September Group Schedules:
Preparations for repackage album throughout month.
September 1: Performance at Incheon K-Pop Concert.
(October 6: Performance at K-Content EXPO in Jakarta, Indonesia.)
Decipher V & R
Despite early talks regarding a possible Decipher V comeback earlier in the year, focus has shifted to the full group now following the success of their last comeback and a comeback for either sub-unit is not currently planned.
September Group Schedules: On break.
BEE
Some posts on Pann and other fan platforms have gotten a lot of traction recently accusing BC of sexism due to their treatment of BEE compared to the company’s other senior groups Decipher and Knight. It’s not a big talking point with the general public, but BC doesn’t want fans to blow it up into anything too big since it could drag other issues they’re trying to bury back into the spotlight. A lot of talk is happening among the higher ups, but “a lot of talk” is about all the members know.
September Group Schedules:
September 8: Performance at HallyuPopFest at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, Singapore.
September 15: BEExtraordinary Fanmeeting at The Mall Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
September 29: BEExtraordinary Fanmeeting at The Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong.
(October 6: BEExtraordinary Fanmeeting at Saitama Omiya Sonic City in Tokyo, Japan.)
(October 13: BEExtraordinary Fanmeeting at Zepp@BigBox in Singapore, Singapore.)
Knight
Focus is on recordings for their next album this month. This album is the company’s real push for award season since their releases earlier in the year haven’t performed as well in sales and impact as they’d like to be competitive for the number of daesangs Knight usually gets. Some of the songs were cut from earlier albums and saved for this one, so the recording load isn’t as big as usual, and the music video for the title track will be filmed in the first half of the month before the b-sides are completely finished recording. BC is aiming for an October comeback so that they can fit in a repackage before the end of the year.
*Their image with the public has been steadily improving and there’s talk they may be permitted to move out of their dorm after this comeback and repackage if this continues.
September Group Schedules:
Studio recordings throughout month.
September 1: Performance at Incheon K-Pop Concert.
September 2: Performance at Incheon Airport Sky Festival.
September 15: Performance at KBS Music Bank in Berlin, Germany.
September 27: Performance at 2018 Korea Sale Festa.
September 30: Performance at KCON Thailand in Bangkok, Thailand.
(October 5: Performance at 2018 Changwon K-Pop World Festival.)
(October 12: Performance at Industrial Bank Korea’s Good Concert with 2030 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium.)
(October 15: Performance at SBS Inkigayo in Vietnam.)
White Knight
White Knight remains only minimally active with one public performance.
September Group Schedules:
September 9: Performance at Spectrum Dance Music Festival at Jamsil Olympic Stadium.
Lipstick
Bingle Bangle is still charting in Gaon’s top ten and Lipstick has exceeded both the public’s and BC’s expectations of how they would fare without Goeun. BC groups rarely exceed expectations with how high the bar is set for them, but their continued success has BC no longer considering letting them slowly fade away like might have happened if they couldn’t perform as well without their main vocal. Plans for a tour are moving forward and are in the planning phases.
September Group Schedules:
September 1: Performance at Incheon K-Pop Concert.
September 4: To Vanity fanmeeting at Sungkyunkwan University New Millennium Hall.
September 8: Performance at HallyuPopFest at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, Singapore.
(October 5: Performance at 2018 Changwon K-Pop World Festival.)
Lip Gloss
There are no immediate plans for the rest of the year for Lip Gloss now that Love City promotions have ended.
September Group Schedules: On break.
CHARM
Their comeback appears to be doing well, even with less laser-focused Korean promotions due to some time overseas for their tour, and management has told the boys that it looks like they’ll be cleared of their debt before long once all of the money from the tour finishes coming in.
September Group Schedules:
September 2: Fansign in Yeouido.
September 4: Ideal Cut Tour concert at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
September 5: Ideal Cut Tour concert at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
September 6: Ideal Cut Tour concert at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
September 8: Ideal Cut Tour concert at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

(October 3: Performance at Day 2 of Asia Song Festival.)
(October 7: Ideal Cut Tour concert at MIECC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.)
(October 13: Ideal Cut Tour concert at Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.)
(October 14: Performance at SBS Super Concert in Suwon.)
WISH
September brings the end of music show promotions for their summer comeback, and with it, the end of their WISHland Zone 2 tour. WISH should be used to one cycle of promotions simply meaning the start of a new one, though, and so it goes, with their Japanese promotions and arena tour beginning as they also continue work on another Korean album, which will be released before the end of the year..
September Group Schedules
Preparations for comeback throughout month.
September 1: Performance at the 27th Tokyo Girls Collection (Autumn/Winter) at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Lola Bunny appears to be far less sexualized in Space Jam 2: A New Legacy compared to the original Space Jam movie, which is the right direction to take. Lola Bunny made her first appearance in the original 1996 Space Jam starring Michael Jordan. In that movie, she is a talented basketball player and a bit of a tomboy, but most remember her as Bugs's romantic interest. In the years since her debut, she's gone through several evolutions that have made her a quirky character in her own right, making the choice not to sexualize her a smart one.
After Space Jam, her next biggest appearance was in Baby Looney Tunes where she was tomboyish and independent, with an affinity for basketball like her grown counterpart. Her descendent, Lexi Bunny, appeared in Loonatics Unleashed, which reimagined Looney Tunes characters as superheroes in a post-apocalyptic future, and was a bit of a girly girl. She got her superpowers right after trying out for cheerleading at Acmetropolis University and occasionally made comments about her appearance. Then, The Looney Tunes Show happened and completely reimagined her character; that was when Lola Bunny really came into her own. She was cheerful, eccentric, reckless, and a bit obsessive over Bugs. Later versions, like the direct to DVD movie Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run and New Looney Tunes dropped the obsession with Bugs but kept the rest of Lola's eccentric personality.

In Space Jam, Lola wasn't always supposed to be the sexualized bunny that made it to the silver screen. Originally, she was supposed to be a lot more tomboyish, but the production team thought she'd appear too masculine, so they decided to emphasize her feminine attributes by making her sexy. The token female character who is "just one of the guys" but still attractive is a staple of ensemble genre films. She's usually one of the best athletes in the game (but never seems to earn the winning point) and is the love interest of the male lead. The choice not to sexualize Lola Bunny in Space Jam 2: A New Legacy is a step in the right direction, because she has evolved far beyond that cliché. Plus, it's an ideal way to take the film's title to heart - it's truly a new legacy for Lola.

Space Jam premiered 25 years ago; an entire generation has grown up with Lola Bunny as the independent tomboy of Baby Looney Tunes or the delightfully eccentric character from The Looney Tunes Show. Although she's still often Bugs's romantic interest, she now has a much bigger comedic personality that director Malcolm D. Lee can play with. She can be the one that gets way too competitive to the point where even her teammates are intimidated, or gets into a wacky situation that leads to the film's eleventh hour crisis.
More than that, though, it's just a smart decision that the only major female character in this kid's movie isn't sexualized. Little girls will be watching Space Jam 2, especially since it'll be widely available on streaming, and it can be incredibly alienating for their only representation in the movie to be constantly ogled by the characters and the camera. Lee has the opportunity to create a quirky female character that's both relatable and funny.
The original Space Jam, though outdated in some areas like the character of Lola Bunny, is a classic film for kids from the 1980s and '90s that still holds a place in the public's heart. Hopefully, Space Jam 2: A New Legacy will live up to the original, while also making strides in modernizing the characters for the big screen; the choice not to sexualize Lola is a promising step in the right direction.

LOONA / ODD EYE CIRCLE - GIRL FRONT [8.12] Next up, a frenzied, fizzy mystery...
Mo Kim: As it nears the end of its eighteen-month rollout, the LOONA project has grown from a series of self-contained solo releases into a universe-bending mythos which grows more complex by the second, left for fans to piece together via close analysis of meticulously-arranged videos (often with cameos), promotional graphics, press releases, and cryptic URLs referencing Mobius strips. It's to the credit of the group, however, that the music has remained its foundation: whether revealing Choerry's ability to jump between dimensions via a well-placed drop in "Love Cherry Motion" or making a 180 from the sweeter concepts of the first few members with KimLip's sultry "Eclipse," Blockberry Creative has been just as ambitious with their songs as they have with every other dimension of their unfolding multimedia narrative. Even if you didn't know anything about LOONA or Odd Eye Circle (its second subunit), "Girl Front" would still knock you off your feet like a late-summer breeze. Its Max Martin-esque melange of synthlines and sticky beats (with a generous sampling of contemporary sonic trends, especially the ominous trap-tinged coda following each chorus) distills driving down the 101 in Los Angeles with your windows down into as perfect a road trip song as I've heard. Yet there's something about the surrounding context that takes the drama of a budding romance and blows it up to inter-dimensional proportions. As the girls trade lines on the chorus about a budding romance that "makes things hotter" and "makes them draw closer," a massive mix of beat-em-up synths and hard-hitting beats wallops you with the force of an asteroid: one feels as if they could be singing about their own impact. The verses filter in bits of plucky guitar and sunny piano chords that the production leaves sounding just a touch haunted, like the cassette player which opens and closes the video. Even the one moment the song lets up, in a bridge that registers with the clarity of a daybreak, turns its wistful gaze back on us in what may be my favorite musical moment of 2017: the three members of Odd Eye Circle, finally united after four months of twists and teasers, stare lovingly into a tri-colored moon in the sky, tinged with each of their representative colors (red, blue, and purple). Composers Ollipop and Hayley Aitken cruelly let the swelling synth melody that's been looping in the background for the entire song step to the forefront for just three measures before killing it with a well-placed record scratch. On screen, the girls turn in unison and break the fourth wall, staring right into your souls: if you think this is the end, think again. Instead of easy resolution, they leave us in their final chorus with a promise: "I'll say I love you first." I'm always left wondering, at the end, what is really there. I question the irony of becoming infatuated with a song about infatuation, about how the "love" in "love song" can work like gravity, pulling you towards becoming the person you've fallen for. Maybe I spent most of 2017 buried in LOONA because, in the simplest terms, it tells a story of possibility: a girl can become any concept she puts on; can find her place in the music and the mythology; can stitch together the worlds she occupies. Return to the title of "Girl Front"; "Front" because, as the theory goes, Mobius strips enchant you in loops you circle with purpose but without end; "Front" because an empowered girl makes it happen herself. The cassette player, a signpost for our nostalgia, refuses to give us an answer, rewinding instead, and in an year that constantly challenged me to think through my place in the world, the message feels clear: you're getting closer. Keep listening.    [10]
Maxwell Cavaseno: As the LOONAverse proceeds far off into its cosmic spiral, their seemingly esoteric design evolves against tunes that feel more and more plunging away from the preceding singles and their reaches for star power into something more star-struck. "Girl Front" is a galloping rush of enthusiasm and excitement as Choerry, Kim Lip and JinSoul eagerly manage to pitch infatuation like fastballs offset by those real clunker 'drops' aiming for I guess some sort of 'hipness' that ever since "Eclipse" the poor girls have been burdened with having to appeal to (which is ever overwhelmingly pointed on fellow LOONAffiliate Yves' "new" but that's another tale), and tend to detract from the record. But the winding melody on the chorus' "woo" or the sudden shift into the dubstep-stomp along for Kim Lip on the second verse are the moments when "Girl Front" can not only sound urgent but utterly world-departing. [8]
Ryo Miyauchi: For a single not-so-slickly tucking in self-reference, it makes sense the production also picks the the best bits from each of the summer LOONAs' solo singles: the devilish sweetness of "Love Cherry Motion," the zigzagging of "Singing in the Rain," the breathtaking grace of "Eclipse." The trio get upstaged by the production despite their best efforts to introduce their individual personalities, but really, what a dazzling beat to get lost in. [6]
Leonel Manzanares: K-Pop that sounds like it takes serious cues from the #weirdsoundcloud scene. The post-chorus breaks could feel at home on a de-constructed club mix, and the synth risers, in the transition from the bridge to the final hook, could make Myles Dunhill green with envy. LOONA was the most interesting Korean project of 2017, and their brilliance lies not only in their versatility but in the quality of the execution. They've given each of their members their own sonic and visual little universe, and each release has been scarily consistent. I have big expectations for them in 2018.  [8]
Edward Okulicz: How this song turns on a dime so frequently from amazing K-pop banger, to different kind of amazing K-pop banger, to a part that convinces you the whole thing is going to turn into a god damned trap song suggests a complete mastery and love of pop as an artform. I don't think listening to it could possibly be as fun as it was making it, but it's probably pretty close. [9]
Nortey Dowuona: Glittering, shiny synths and light, puffy eyed bass spread out with blank droning synths and flat drums that become rigid and stuffy around the side. Plus the singing by Loona and the Odd Eye Circle seems both too light and yet too heavy. [6]
Alex Clifton: The best bubblegum pop feels innocuous at first, but comes out of nowhere to hit you square in the brain. "Girl Front" is sparkling and light overall, but that chorus is a knockout and is definitely going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. It's the kind of song I know I would have played to death when I was fifteen and unable to talk to most people I liked, but I also like it at twenty-five because it gives me the sugary rush that I need from pop music. I've not been following LOONA's formation entirely, but if this is how good their subunits are, I'm ready to be wowed by the whole band in 2018. [8]
Joshua Minsoo Kim: Shortly after the release of Odd Eye Circle's "Sweet Crazy Love," Digipedi director Seong Wonmo noted that he had intentionally included Korean-language signs in its music video. K-pop always looked to the pop culture of the West, he said, studying and imitating it in numerous ways. As a director, there was a sense that he shouldn't let Hangul appear in any frame--it would, after all, only make the content seem more "foreign." But it's 2017, and with K-pop's ever-expanding global presence, Seong finally felt comfortable with doing just that (note that this was ten years into the career of an already-legendary figure of the industry). When I read his comments, I thought about where I was ten years ago, and how much I related to what he was saying. As one of five Asians in an otherwise all-White high school, I had made subconscious efforts to be "just one of the (White) guys." But as I started learning about K-pop, I also started to take some pride in being Korean. I wouldn't dare tell my White friends about Wonder Girls or Big Bang, but I would tell them about some Korean music that seemed less embarrassing to mention. I will never forget, for example, how excited I was to show off my copy of Seo Taiji's 7th Issue to a friend--as we sat in class, I watched as he examined the album's unique packaging, and I eagerly awaited his opinions on the album's pop punk/emo songs. Years later, I'm constantly gushing about Korean music to non-Koreans, and K-pop has played an enormous role in helping me come to terms with--and eventually love--my Korean-American identity. That Seong specifically decided to show Hangul in a LOONA video is appropriate. More than any other group this year, they represented the best of what the K-pop industry had to offer in terms of engaging pop songs and their promotion. Subunit Odd Eye Circle's music was especially noteworthy; their mini album featured the incredible Art Angels-indebted "Loonatic" and an R&B song that most boy bands would kill for. The best of the bunch was "Girl Front," the lead single that took everything good about the members' solo tracks and morphed it into something more ambitious. At its core, it's a chipper pop song about being infatuated with someone, but what sets it apart is the degree to which every bit of instrumentation captures the manic frenzy of wanting to tell someone you love them. Producer Ollipop was wise to bury the arpeggiating synths low in the mix, allowing them to mimic the fluttering hearts that characterize such situations. What ties everything together, though, is the chorus. The girls initially state that they're "cool," emphasizing it with a wavering vocal melody that hops along briskly. It's immediately followed by a sultry coo that's meant to resemble the sound of their heart--an admittance of how they're actually feeling. It's considerably smoother than what preceded it, and shamelessly long. But they're not denying how they feel anymore, and they'll happily let their crush consume their thoughts. What makes "Girl Front" so heartening is that it isn't content with things ending there; this is a song that's about mustering up the strength to confess to someone that you love them. And as the song progresses, there's an "opening up" of sounds to reflect this. The first verse has flickering synths that are halted by a bass guitar, as well as a vocal melody akin to those in the chorus that abruptly ends. But in the second verse, relatively "natural"-sounding keys stand in place of their punchy counterparts. There's also a sleek mid-verse shift that registers as sensual, and it all leads into the girls shouting "woo!" before entering the chorus again. By the time "Girl Front" ends, they declare their intent to express their feelings to this person directly. We don't know if they actually will, but things look hopeful. Sometimes, the best thing you can do to keep moving forward--to get yourself to do things that seem impossible--is to constantly remind yourself of the things that make you happy. In "Girl Front," it's an overflow of desire for this person that helps them reach a point where they can say "I Love You." It turns out that listening to K-pop was a way for me to eventually say the same thing to myself. [10]
