The gang indulges in some unrestrained summer fun!

This has been a wip for gosh knows how long, but I managed to get it done. It started with just Maire but then everyone got to join in.

The gang mostly belongs to @libras-interactives Lottie belongs to @maryannsstrawberry i belive. So sorry for misattributing her to Libra. Who has custody of Little Lottie I'm still unsure of tho.

Individual pngs below (theyre suposed to be transparent, but i guess tumblr can just decide not to do that sometimes. free website and all that), as well as art thoughts.

We’ll go from left to right

Jack: I feel like if Jack is going to the beach he need some protection from the sun. So along with a early 1920s style mens swimsuit, he’s also got a sun hat and a housecoat. I based it of a womans house coat as they look very light and breathable which probably helps with the heat while keeping him safe from sun. House coats were also generally not uncomon to wear on the beach. I also just like messing around with gender presentation in my art. I’m sure Marius approves.

Marius: Marius is sporting a mens bathing suit from the late 1920s. As he is very fashion forward I felt it fit him to wear something a bit more up to date. His fur pattern does make it look like he was wearing shorts and a t shirt and got sunburned lol. I based his fur on Eveline’s and the photos of the cat he was based on. Maybe a gradient would make it look a bit less silly idk. Feel free to weigh in if you have any ideas.

Eveline: I know Eveline prefers clothing from the late 1900-1910s more but I really loved how she looked with her hair up. I based her bathing suit on a 1920s version but added a few flairs to give it a bit more of a retro vibe for the time.

The Lotties: I gave Lottie a bathing suit with a belt and a cap. As per the laws of the Lackadaisy-verse her ears are tucked safely into her cap. No ear holes here. I wanted to give her a beach bag but I couldn't find any type of purse specifically for that so she’s got a shopping bag instead. I felt she needed somewhere to keep little Lottie's beach toys and sun screen, speaking of: She is wearing a very normal child's bathing suit. Not much to say on it. I focused more on her posing than her fashion.

Máire: the original name for this drawing when I was just planning on drawing her was bathing beauties… Anyway, she strikes me as someone who uses her time at the beach to relax and look good while doing it. Her swimsuit is based on something I saw on Pinterest. It had flowers painted on it which strikes me more as being ornamental. Shes also a pair of fashionable heals and a parasol.

And last but not least Malwina: Malvina’s bathing suit is technically from 1926, so maybe she is just way ahead of the trends. Her shoes are laced beach shoes. I feel like shed take the opertunity to enjoy the fresh air, and swim in the cooling water. Maybe check out some cute boys. I think shed enjoy having a day where she can just be a normal teenager.

Mc is probably around. Maybe off buying soda pops for everyone.

Jack picked Paige because he saw it in a newspaper. He couldn't spell it right for months. Can't recall his original surname, he has vague memories of "Howard".

Máire's mother changed their surname from Mac Cárthaigh to McCarthy. Legally she's Mary McCarthy, but has always been called and gone by Máire.

Cecil Flynn was born as Cillian Fallon

"Krooks" is Kaspar. Cant recall his surname or if I gave him one 🤔

Ezra Knightly was born as Temperance Baker

Roxie is an alias, ofc. her birth name is Chemira Smith, to her horror. Unlike Ezra and Krooks, she's never mentioned her old name to anyone.

And ofc there's Little Lottie. There's no birth certificate and no memory, on her part or anyone else's, of a name.

What i think the utdm cast would do in Minecraft

Marius - starts every new game by locating and robbing the nearest village, pretends to be your Minecart gf so you'll give him your diamonds, makes everyone pride flags via banners, goal is to craft an entire netherite set of armor. skin = cute anime egirl 

Jack - usually does what his friends do and goes on a creeper killing spree if his house gets blown up, fixes up the villages Marius raids and builds them an iron golem. Gets really into the trading system cuz he likes to see the villagers level up. skin = Enderman 

Eveline - plays in creative or easy mode to relax. Likes making redstone and musicbox contraptions, and collecting all the jukebox disks, will let the game play in the background just to listen to the music, can't stop taming parrots. skin = something artistic, like a straight up detailed pixel drawing of a bird or flower 

Lottie and little L - they have a peaceful server where they built a farm and have a bunch of farm animals, have either a cutesy pink texture pack or a cottage core inspired one. skin = Pink princess and queen of hearts

Malwina - does Minecraft role-play, wasn't initially into building but started so she could make set pieces and environments for her rp’s, downloads mods with new decorations and custom blocks for her builds, helps little L and Lottie build cute houses inspired by Victorian architecture. = custom skin that's her sona 

Máire - would have to be convinced to start playing by a friend, like jack she just follows someone else’s lead but will eventually get really into enchanting and making potions cuz the sounds are very asmr. skin = something witchy 

Sylvester - wouldn't get into it on his own but his kids love it so he and his wife got it so they can play with them and participate in any Minecraft related conversations around the dinner table, they just wanna show that they care about their kids interests. skin = Steve (his kids eventually change his and his wife's skin to Morticia and Gomez Addams)

Flynn - makes a server just so he can abuse his admin powers and greef people, would never admit to anyone that he plays Minecraft. skin = creeper with a suit 

Cora - lore expert, makes YouTube theory videos, even plays the spin of games and tries to haphazardly fit them together into one universe. skin = Herobrine

What is a habit your character has that others might find cute?

To all of the UtDM OCs you have (if possible also all types of MCs)

Marius - Smiling at people he passes by, and anyone he makes eye contact with. Esp if theyre scowling

Jack - Trying to bend and slouch to make himself smaller when he sits. Mixed results.

Eveline - Humming and singing to herself when she cooks or readies for bed

Lottie - Always wants to wear heels, regardless of weather. Keeps an extra hankerchief in her purse for Little Lottie.

Máire - Handles her things carefully and neatly. Cards, bedding, folding clothes, drinks, etc.

Malwina - Her ears and tail are extra fidgety when she's happy.

Slyvester - When he sits next to his wife, he's usually touching her in some way - knees touching, tails brushing, hand on a hand, etc. Doesn't realize he does this.

Little Lottie - Wringing things when she's nervous - it can look cute, even though she's distressed. And arranging things in neat rows when she plays. She has a little collection of marbles and small rocks she does this with.

Krooks - Clicking his tongue a lot, especially when giving finger guns. Also rolling his Rs for fun.

Ezra - When he's really cracking up, his laugh turns to a quiet wheezing.

Roxie - She has a cute face when she puts on make-up, if that counts. Then she goes back to smirking and scowling.

Flynn - Tough to say, but when he's restless or bored and too tired or irritated to bother keeping up the facade - like when he's with one of the working girls or MC - he has a habit of arranging things in a row. Pens, sugar cubes, coins, whatever's on hand. Just don't point it out.

Cora - Makes her coffee the exact same every day (black with 3 sugar), stirs it the same way (three times rapidly with a spoon), and sips it at clockwork intervals (1 sip per minute until cool, then 2 longer sips). If she makes someone else coffee, she drills them for the precise amount of sugar and milk. And makes it wrong on purpose if she hates them.

🌑UtDM 1.1.7 + Beta🌕

I have no idea how to label this, LOL. I've been fixing a lot of silly bugs thanks to some awesome people, and drafting on Ch2 is going v. well! 40% done, and it's only the first week of August... .... Kind of unnerves me 😅

Because Ch2 is shaping up to be much longer than Ch1, I'm going to code each scene as I finish rather than doing it all at once and melting my brain. It'll be a separate beta version for those who want to read the story and don't mind the wonky bugs - if you'd rather read everything at once and have a much neater experience, wait for 2.0 at the end of this month :>

Anyway, you can get the beta version where you find the other version. Version 1.1.4 is all of Chapter 1, with bugfixes and only a small Ch2 preview. It'll stay that way until Ch2's full release 👀

This Beta covers:

Multiple Scenes in Chapter 2. So far it's up to four: The phone call, a chat with Malwina, your first job with Mordecai and Viktor, and a long conversation with Lottie.

There's also a few additions to the Character Creator - I am not taking suggestions for new content here. It's very low priority compared to drafting the actual story.

Being able to skip directly to Chapter 2! You'll still get to choose your Tarot reading. Please note if you chose a Tarot that normally wouldn't be available to you - i.e., choosing Star if you don't have a kid - text won't make sense. Chapter Selection is going to look nicer in 2.0 (ideally, lol).

A proper, multiple save/load system! (It can be weird sometimes!)

I have two questions about the utdm gang, mostly just for fun. How would they dress in the modern age and what would their ideal day off look like?

Marius:

Dresses very well (when he can afford it...), clothes are always clean and hair always done even if his apartment is shit lol. In modern times he'd stand out bc he'd wear "old fashioned" 1920s dandy styles, or clothes "meant for women" like crop tops and cute shorts, and bright colors.

Ideal day off in both modern and 20's is going out to eat and dance with friends. You could convince him to stay in, but he'd still want to do something engaging and invite lots of people over. It's actually nice when he gets a boyfriend bc then hes out on dates all the time instead of bugging the far more introverted Jack and Eveline.

Jack:

Already has no sense of fashion lmao,,, doesnt change much in modern times. Jeans, work boots and a tanktop. Maybe a button down or flannel if he's gotta look nice. Denim overalls if he's gotta work, a baseball cap he got for free at a feed store to keep the sun outta his eyes. Owns more work clothes than "regular" clothes for sure, and knows how to mend them.

A day off where you actually got Jack to relax: walking in a nice nature reserve or forest with no people, or a friend or two. Maybe some fishin', and grilling said fish in the evening with some friends over a fire. Going to sleep actually at peace and content with himself. God bless.

Lottie:

Wears whatever's on trend at the time, albeit with her own spin. She can look good in basically anything, would def be one of those fashion insta girlies. An ideal day off would be a nice spa day followed by shopping or a night out with her best friends. They could be doing anything - restaurant, dancing, a horror movie marathon.

Eveline:

Likes thrifting (and antiqueing in general), and prefers to alter and sew her own clothes. She's very opinionated against fast fashion haha. She'd be the one buying handmade jewelry at festivals. An ideal day off would be some restful fucking sleep with no one interrupting her enjoying a quiet morning at a cafe, browsing an antique shop or little bookstore, and going home to cook something while listening to a podcast/radioshow. Marius can come over and bring his friends if they do the dishes afterward lol.

Little Lottie:

Buying clothing for LL is an Endeavor (tm) bc of her sensory sensitivities and the fact like, trying on clothes in Walmart or Old Navy would be an awful experience for her. Also, when she likes an outfit, she doesn't want to wear anything else. So when they find a favorite thing, Lottie buys like three or five of them in increasingly larger sizes so LL can still have that specific shirt or dress when she gets bigger. She'll wear her halloween costume for months if she loves it.

Little Lottie's ideal "day off" in modern is much the same as it would be in canon; she wants a warm, secure home with no sudden noises or women shouting or strange men coming and going. She'd want to have space to lay out her legos and books and stuffed animals, and not be bothered or interrupted, but not alone - she wants to look up and see Lottie or MC close by in case she needs them. And when she's done playing she wants to go to their side for a snack and juice and be read to.

(Playing outside would be fun too, but parks and zoos are overwhelming and have lots of people - so a big backyard with a sandbox would be like, perfect)

Slyvester:

Still dresses like he's in the 50's; he is not that old in the modern times, he's just stuffy and overly fastidious. At least he doesn't wear a hat and jacket all the time. Supposedly, there's photo evidence of him in a hawaiian shirt and sandals with socks in the myriads of family photo albums his wife keeps.

As for a day off - lord this man needs it - he has a list of places his wife Viviana wants to go, anywhere from museum exhibits to weird performative art installments to a tiny hole in the wall Greek place she heard about 4 years ago to the local Renfaire. In modern times it'd be much easier for her to get about with a wheelchair, so they can go out more. They're more restricted in the 1920s, but they try to make it work whenever Slyvester's off for a few days. Alas, big shocker, Flynn doesn't allow many of those.

Lightning bonus round Malwina is a normal happy teenager who likes going to ☆spooky☆ dead malls and doing tiktok dances with her friends and little sisters. Máire never left Ireland, is the reluctant mom-friend to her coworkers at the lesbian bar, and is v active in the Dublin punk & queer community. And is properly divorced LOL.

Hey, I got a question about UTDM Will the Lackadaisy characters meet anyone from the La Lune or The Duchess? I just read your reply to the person asking if the characters will meet the MC's kid and thought of this

Theyll meet Marius and Jack (and probably Lottie), unlikely for anyone else bc the girls and Sylvester dont have a lot of free time, or a desire to spend that free time in another club.

The Duchess? Well ... kind of. 🤔 do Flynn and his guards count as the Duchess?

Marius - Rocky! Though Marius would be a terrible influence. Can't wait to write that. Nico too, ironically, thought they get off to a terrible start in Devil's Moon and now can't stand each other 😂

Jack - Hard to say ... ... ... ....

Lottie - Ivy is a bit too young for her to hang out with, so maybe the band! She'd love the Savoy siblings though. She'd be looking at Serafine like 👀 (Again, if they hadn't gotten off on such a bad start in Devil's Moon haha.)

Eveline - Er .... Well. Her and Mitzi have decent enough conversations ...? She and Wick might actually get on really well though, and Elsa, if they ever met... though that conversation would get dark after a while ...

Máire - Her and Zib can bitch at each other all day. And Lacy, though maybe in an AU, their lives are very different.

Malwina - I like to think, in a different AU or world, Malwina and Ivy would be friends :")

LOL i mean Eve and Lottie are the top, I cant help it... i guess its no surprise that I adore Jack and Marius too. Thays why theyre major characters.

But non-UTDM wise, @juniperss also has an adorable baker Maeve who i rlly wanna draw. @cherryballistic's Lupita is an Adelita/soladera and i love her RARGH she inspired a lot of the Gunman stuff in UtDM. Ive learned a lot about @chucky-brontosaurus' Nazlı and @missedditart's Ace too :3 Oh and my partner made his cursed orange cat Catholic priest and another bestie has an Abyssinian actress im super fond of. Neither of em are on tumblr or in the fandom tho.

Ive mentioned my con artist Dolly Lee and nun Sister Marguerite, and my partner's priest is in there. They dont work well w/ UtDM so I dont rlly talk about them, tho I'll draw em sometimes. Id like to write them somehow, someday ^^

hi! i’ve started playing utdm about two or three weeks ago, and i really like it so far! but while im patiently/eagerly waitin for the next update(take your time tho, good stuff takes time :])- what’s your favorite interaction between a canon character(or one of your ocs) and the mc so far(of writing)(like.. from chapter 1 to whatever you have rn, is what i mean)? just curious lol. anyways, have a good day/afternoon/night! :DDD

For canon characters, I like the scene at the bridge with Rocky in ch2. I was so worried about writing it, and I think it came out well in the end. Im also happy with the scene before that, when MC chats with the band :3

For OC characters, Im really proud about the fight at the warehouse in ch2, both before and after Lottie arrives. Writing a lot of different characters at once can be tough but I think it paid off. Though winding down at Eveline's house afterward was enjoyable to write, too ... oops im picking a lot

hmmm well im dropping the doctor/vet update tomorrow, so youll find out all the doctor!mc stuff I have already via Lottie's conversation and the dream in Ch2, their exclusive tarot scene, the character creation, etc.

I will say, doctor!mc didn't become what they are because of a "higher calling" or specific event in their life. They were kinda forced into it, and are unfortunately very good at rearranging guts and putting things together. so they keep having to do it.

How Easy It Is For Them To Ignore Flaws in Others:

Marius: For a loved one? Very easy. Rose tinted glasses for lovers and friends alike.

Jack: A tough one. Any mistreatment to him, he chalks up as his fault and deserved. He's a bit more aware of his friend's shortcomings, but sees them as forgivable compared to his own.

Lottie: Completely depends. Everyone has flaws, and she's fairly self aware of her own. As long as they aren't hurting people or themselves too badly, she's willing to work with it.

Eveline: Its less "ignoring" and more "tolerating because shes too tired to fuss about it". She's got a limit, though.

Máire: Depends on time of day and what the cards say. She mentally notes the flaws and rolls with them, never ignoring them or making excuses for them.

Malwina: For people she dislikes? Impossible. For the man she loves? Easily.

Slyvester: Very easy, that's already his job.

Little Lottie: Almost impossible if the flaws frighten or hurt her. She avoids the person.

Flynn: If the flaws benefit him, he works with them. If they don't, he handles it.

Cora: CHALLENGE IMPOSSIBLE!!! Dom has to reel her in a bit

Ooooh interesting question! Cut because this is long.

Marius and Eveline were raised Catholic. She still attends Mass and believes to ... some extent, though it's painful when she'd had so much tragedy and she feels God has allowed it to happen. It's more comforting rituals to her, and a familiar place to have peace and quiet in. Marius would say he believes in God, but does little in the way of prayer or action.

Jack was raised in a very puritannical, isolated and fundamentalist Christian sect. He's still very afraid of God and damnation and Satan, and wants to not believe to relieve himself of that fear, but ...

Flynn was raised very strict Catholic, and he was always defiant and iffy on the whole thing - WW1 sent him firmly into "God is dead and/or never existed, and if He's alive, he doesn't care about us" territory. Generally he believes organized religion is an excellent scam.

Lottie's family was Catholic, though didn't attend church often and as far as she remembers, weren't terribly devout. When they died, she became bitter and resented God. As an adult, she's mostly recovered from that, but still jokingly calls herself a bad Catholic and doesn't really identify as one.

Máire was raised Catholic ... ish? Her grandmother and mother were... eccentric about it, to say the least. Their true beliefs were much closer to the late 1800s spiritualist movement, with a weird mix of Saint reverence and old Irish folk medicine and teachings. Máire dislikes explaining herself to others, and Catholicism is deeply tied to her culture, so she allows others to assume and refer to her as Catholic.

Malwina was raised Catholic and still believes in God. She tries to attend Mass, but lately it's brought more guilt and shame than it's worth. She prays on her rosary when she feels disheartened, but moreso because it reminds her of her mama and sisters.

Polly/Paulie grew up Methodist, and isn't particuarly religious or interested, but the church still holds fond memories. He's especially sentimental during Christmastime, and will attend those services. She only prays if she's truly in distress.

Slyvester was raised Lutheran, though his parents were fairly open-minded for the time. His wife is Catholic, and he married into/converted to the Catholic Church for her sake. They don't attend Mass except for holidays, and only pray with family or before meals.

Krooks grew up Jewish, and tries not to think about what his family and God would think about his current situation. He still observes dietary restrictions and holidays out of tradition and missing his family. Ezra was raised in a fiercely Southern Baptist home, which put him off religion for a long time. A few times he's gone to Krooks' synagogue and found it comforting. Roxie is quite blunt about her disbelief in God, and claims she never stepped foot in a church, nor will she ever. She grew up in rural Utah, had four mothers and narrowly avoided a marriage with a much older man. She does NOT like talking about religion.

How exactly will the romances in UtDM work? I know they're not necessarily locked like a lot of IFs with romance (*side-eyes ChoiceofGames*) but I'm curious as to the part they can play.

So this is how it'll go:

In the first few chapters, you'll interact with most characters as the story goes along to get an idea of what they're like. Having romantic attraction/interest opens more scenes with that character, but scenes are the same as the platonic option - like, Mordecai and Viktor would be slowburns, while Rocky and Jack would be a fast track. Zib and Lottie would be more medium, etc.

At a certain point you choose a love interest to stick to. You'll only get their romantic scenes from that point, and still get the platonic scenes of everyone else.

For those who have read Last Spring, that story is very structured. UtDM is not, it'll be a series of vignettes that pop up between slow going plot points and time skips that are spread out over a year. I guess Last Spring is a railroad with a limited number of specific paths it takes, and UtDM is more a meandering hike with lots of places to stop along the way. Some places (scenes) only pop up if you have a specific Occupation/Deal/Love interest.

In UtDM, are Maurice and Jack older than MC? If I choose her to be 18-20 would that make them a year or two older than her? Or are they the same age no matter the option?

Marius and Jack are always the same age - Marius is 19 and Jack is... 21, he thinks. Eveline is older than her forged birth certificate says. Malwina is the youngest La Lune girl at 16, Lottie is early twenties, Máire is nearly 30 and the oldest one. Slyvester is hitting 45 and getting too old for this shit.
