one day I will write out my lil arthuriana thing where m.erlin raises a.rthur and loves him like a son but he still loses him and is more or less doomed to an agonizingly long life where he is constantly reminded that he failed his boy and is looking for a reincarnation he can't even be sure will ever come,,

#like in this version of things he encounters arthur for the first time when hes a little boy #and is trying to steal from his garden bc hes hungry. igraine is trying but shes dealing w serious ptsd after uther assaults her #so merlin decides to take responsibility for both of them #teaches arthur how to fish and garden and read and write #ensures that igraine is eating and uses his magic to soothe her night terrors and brushes out her hair for her on nights where she cant #igraine passes away when arthur is ten and shortly after that. merlin is told about the prophecy #merlin just. decides hes going to do whatever he can to prevent the tragic fall but hes always going to be a little too late #this is a very old story there is no other version of this story etc #im just thinking about it #sa mention cw #✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ: ooc / [mothman vc] take me home country roads #love arthuriana bc there are So many iterations over so many centuries and all of them are more or less 'canon' so to speak #ur city now #and my city involves a sad fucking old man
