This is kinda a follow-up to my last post. I’m fully rewatching s4 rn for the first time since it came out and I’m sorry but I don’t see how Dustin and Mike are in the wrong with the Hellfire campaign/championship game situation. I love Lucas and I feel absolutely awful every time I see him sad, but I don’t think anyone was in the wrong here. I just think that they all had different priorities bc they’re growing up and unfortunately that happens.
Dustin and Mike did exactly what Lucas asked of them, they asked Eddie to move the campaign. Then they got denied and given a whole speech about how they’re the whole future of the club by a person who took them in when they felt left behind by Lucas, and people expect them to ditch HF to go to the game? I’m sorry but no. Not to mention the campaign was planned beforehand and obv no one expected the team to get to the championship game or else they would’ve had a sub for Lucas prepared. It was a scheduling conflict. It happens. It sucks but no one’s at fault for it.

castles crumbling is so mike wheeler u dont UNDERSTAND
in s1 and also pre s1 we see him being the leader of the group he is so important to everyone and its his initiative that makes them go out looking for will and hes the one that never gives up even when they think hes dead
this maybe led to him getting put on a pedestal...
anyway in s2 things r different obv we see them breifly living a normal life b4 the upside down but mike is still like the leader (the heart wink wink) of the party and even dustin having to remind them the partys a democracy when someone (i dont remember who im sorry i think it was lucas or smth) says that mikes not gonna b happy ab them inviting max to hallowen
BUT in s3 things are changing, mike is spending a lot of time with el and not sm with the party
we see him forgetting ab dustin, pushing will away and fighting with him, arguing with max over el and all in all focusing all his attention on el BUT also ending up arguing with her and they break up. in the end when the ud comes back he reassumes his role as the leader but its not the same as b4
then s4 comes and mike and lucas argue over the basketball stuff and popularity and wtv and when he goes to cali he argues with both will and el over their deteriorating relationships in the span of two days. all his bridges r burning
'one day shes gonna realise im just some random nerd who got lucky superman landed on his doorstep.' mike clearly has very low self esteem and he feels hes not worth knowing
in conclusion castles crumbling mike wheeler foolish one will byers :)
(also im sorry im ass at explaining things but i hope u get this)

Just thinking about Blind!Max and Lucas sitting down to watch the premier of Star Trek: The Next Generation, no idea what to expect, but skeptical that it could ever live up to The Original Series. They’re tucked away together on her couch, and so far the episode is okay, but it’s not great. Everything’s sort of stilted, the acting is over the top, and and the expository dialogue is beyond clunky. They’re half way through the first episode and spending more time confused by it then enjoying it, which isn’t a great sign. It’s reminding them a little to much of The Motion Picture...
And then Geordi enters.
It’s not exactly surprising to see a black character, Uhura had been part of the franchise since day one, but this is a black man and he’s being introduced the same way as all the other characters, as if he’s going to be a main character. Not just in one episode or a bit part in one of the movies, he’s a real, genuine, main character! And Lucas is so excited about it he barely even registers the visor at first, and when he does he has no idea what it is. “Yeah, it’s like this half circle covering his eyes? I don’t know, maybe he’s part robot or something? Or some type of alien?”
“Weird.”
Lucas is jazzed from there on, just waiting for him to come back, but the visor is the least interesting part about him, and honestly Max has kind of forgotten about the character all together by the time he pops up again. Max has barely registered the words “by which I quote ‘see’” and hasn’t had time to realize what that means yet when Lucas speaks up. “Max, holy shit, Max he’s blind. His eyes look like yours. That must be what the weird circle thing is for.” Whatever excitement Lucas had before doubles, and Max is just sitting there in disbelief because no way. That can’t be possible. There isn’t actually a disabled character, specifically a blind character, in Star Trek. Is there? And Lucas is so busy being excited and Max is so busy trying to accept it that they both completely miss the rest of the scene, the explanation of how the visor works, and it’s half way through Bones’ cameo before they even realize it’s him.
They’re both to excited to care.

Lucas really is an underrated character. I could write an essay about how brave, loyal, funny, caring, protective, and smart he is. I don't think you guys are ready for that yet though. So for now I'll just say Lucas is the best boy ever and no one will be able to convince me otherwise. Just look at him. Perfection if I do say so myself.

In the Stranger Things debate between "Mike and Dustin should've gone to the tournament" vs. "Lucas should've gone to Hellfire" it feels like people are forgetting that LUCAS HAS BEEN AT EVERY OTHER SESSION OF THE CAMPAIGN! It's why they needed a substitute, because Lucas has been showing up.
He wanted to be there. He has invested just as much time as everyone else did. And the ONE TIME that he couldn't make it work with basketball, everyone dropped him. The one time it was something in his life that he couldn't reschedule or just choose not to show up to, no one else even tried to figure it out.
Sure, Eddie and the Hellfire crew didn't care about sports, but they cared about Lucas. They all had plans to be together that night and even though Lucas was supposed to sit on the bench, they all could've gone to the game anyway. Sat together and had fun because they were hanging out, even if it was at a Basketball tournament, and they would've even gotten to see Lucas play at the end in a surprising and exciting moment for him.
Yeah, they would've had to re-plan their schedules to make another night work, yes, Mike was going to be gone for the next week and some of them were graduating that year. But it was Spring Break. They had MONTHS left to have fit the end of the Venca campaign into. What? Did Hellfire have no plans to do anything else for the rest of the semester once they wrapped up that story?
They could've made it work. They just chose not to.
I've seen stuff about how "Lucas was moving away from D&D to be popular". He wasn't, he was doing both while trying to protect himself. He was still playing D&D, but he was just also trying sports and being friends with his teammates.
Yes, he was trying to align himself less with the nerdy stuff publicly, because (in case we've all forgotten) he has been relentlessly bullied with the rest of them for it and the previous school year he was literally targeted by Billy before he went after him to attack him for being black. He was nearly the victim of a violent hate crime had Steve not been there to help enough that Max was able to scare him off from that point on.
For Lucas, gaining popularity isn't just having cool friends and going to parties. It is a layer of protection that would've made him (and his sister) less likely to be hurt or killed for being a black kid in a 1980's, overwhelmingly white, small-town in Indiana.
