(side note: i totally accept lucy would have aquarius walk her down the aisle but lmao she would so have to fight capricorn and loke for it but like knowing aquarius it wouldn’t be that much of a fight ;). god someone write a fic—)

THEY’RE ACTUALLY MY FAVOURITE FRIENDSHIP EVER I BAWLED LIKE A FKN BABY WHEN LUCY BROKE HER KEY AND I CRIED EVEN HARDER WHEN SHE CAME BACK IN THE FINAL SEASON PLS—

(i totally headcanon aquarius was kind of like a second mom to her bc lucy was probs spoiled by the servants to make up for lack of layla and jude’s cruel indifference so aquarius was the one who kept her disciplined and from being too spoilt)

Dude I still can't rewatch that scene without SOBBING. The VA's did such a good job and it destroyed me! I still watch edits and cry about it, if I'm being honest.

Aquarius was def her second mom! Lucy is basically a baby duck that imprinted on Aquarius.

BUT let's get those headcanons going for you comrade!

Aquarius absolutely sobs during Lucy's wedding

When Lucy has her first child, Aquarius freaks out. The whole time Lucy is in labor, Aquarius is taking out all of her anxiety on the other spirits. Imagine Loke walking in asking what's up and Aquarius violently shaking him screaming about her girl.

Speaking of the rest of the spirits being in the middle. Every time Lucy summons a spirit, Aquarius is waiting for them when they come back. She want's to know everything she's missing while Lucy is looking for her key.

Aquarius is the reason Lucy isn't scared of anyone. After years of an angry mermaid threatening her life, Lucy is basically numb to all villains threats.

When Lucy finally gets her key, she's too nervous to summon Aquarius for the first time again. Eventually, Aquarius summons herself and just wraps Lucy in her arms. They stand there for way too long, Aquarius just holding a sobbing Lucy

Aquarius makes a considerable effort not to attack Lucy when she's summoned nowadays. She still gets Lucy 50% of the time but Lucy will take what progress she can get.

Lucy developed Aquarius' temper and every time Lucy freaks out on someone Aquarius looks on like a proud mama.

Aquarius is so proud of Lucy. Like imagine her watching Lucy compete in the grand magic games with Taurus in a chokehold and screaming "That's my girl!" as Lucy kicks ass.

Just wanted to draw Lucy with the celestial spirits she’s had since she was (presumably) a kid. I think aside from the staff her celestial spirits were her family. I believe they went out of their way to take care of her sometimes ^^.

And as a bonus just Layla and Jude because I didn’t want Layla and Lucy to look identical to each other. 🙌

Recently watching the anime made me realise that Aquarius is constantly at the forefront of Lucy's mind. Reuniting with Aquarius is Lucy's primary goal rather than sealing the dragon gods.

I do find it kinda funny how Quickly Lucy dealt with the dragon

And then immediately went back to focus on Aquarius

I am very excited to see what happened next

Hiro Mashima kind of cooked when he came up with Brandish like her dynamic with Lucy isn’t over a man or anything. It’s two girls who were supposed to be friends who were dealt a hand by fate and ended up on opposing sides of a war that was decided long before they were born. And even when they know the truth about Layla and Grammi things still aren’t immediately resolved. And now that the war is over Lucy and Brandish have to become friends in their own way now.

I gotchu! Let's talk about growing up with Mama Aquarius:

The first time Lucy summoned her, Aquarius was so confused because she knew Layla was dead and that her key had been gifted to her child, but there was no way that baby could muster up the power to summon her so young.

Aquarius really tried to like Lucy at first, because she had a lot of respect and love for Layla. But Lucy ended up reminding her of her guilt for playing a part in Layla's death (not that she's to blame at all) so Aquarius really did not want to see the little girl.

After hearing about Jude forgetting Lucy's birthday, Aquarius started teaching Lucy how to stand up for herself.

Lucy always broke their contract. It ticked Aquarius off but she always showed up regardless (even canceling a couple dates)

The rest of the spirits mocked her for raising a human baby but Aquarius insisted someone needed to teach the brat right and wrong

There were several times where Aquarius tried to legit fight Jude because of some cruel thing he had done that day

When Lucy got old enough to start talking about boys, Aquarius was not having it. "You will never get a boyfriend, do you understand?"

Lucy had a lot of fish takes in her house. The staff thought she must like fish but it was really an excuse for Lucy to be able to summon Aquarius anywhere she needed her (even tho there would be hell to pay for summoning her in a fish tank)

The staff was absolutely terrified to bathe Lucy, knowing that Aquarius would be summoned at some point and nearly drown them. Thus the task of bathing baby Lucy became Aquarius' job

While Aquarius lectured Lucy on the outside for running away, she was secretly very proud of her for finding her own path
